- In this video I go through the steps on how to remove the auxiliary battery buried under the fuse box. This can be a little intimidating but with a little patience it’s easy enough for anyone to tackle.

2018 Wrangler JL owner, this guidance was dead on accurate. It took me a few hours but cost $135 after trading in old battery....saved me a bundle over what would have likely been a dealership fix!
Excellent video! I’m a female, owned my Jeep since 2018. Bought her new. I just had the same light and message pop up about 2 weeks ago. Happened the same as yours did, at a stop sign.
I picked up a new Aux battery at the local Advanced Auto for $125. Following your video step-by-step, it took me about 3 hours start to finish - manual tools, not air compressed. Lol. Now the light and message are gone!!
Your video and instruction were spot on! Thank you!
Im having same issues with mine. Once weather gets a bit warmer following his step by step video. So well filmed and described each step of the way.
Hasn't the radio been deprogrammed? Or it asked you for a password
Excellent video. Replaced aux battery tonite and this video was perfect. Step by step and exactly what this non-mechanic needed. Thank you!
Hey man, thanks for the video. The size of the bolts for each section made this a breeze. This helped fix my 2020 Wranger.
For those doing this, be careful putting the 7 cables back on, will cause some sparks putting them on if you go 7 to 1
Thanks very useful video....I'm far from a mechanic but managed to do it. You made it look too easy that inspired me to try it.
Great video, I did this last night and it worked! No more warning lights on my dash. One additional step that slowed me down for a minute....at 1:58 when he pulls the tray out, I had to pop a wire harness loose from the tray which was held down by two plastic pop rivets. I got a screwdriver under the wire harness and just applied upward pressure until they came off. I was worried I'd snap them off and have to replace them - but it worked OK. Otherwise perfect instructions!
Your step by step instructions is just what I needed, thank you!
Thanks a ton for this video my friend. I changed out both batteries, took me about an hour. Hopefully this fixes my issue.
Great video it took care of the problem
Thanks for the info, awesome video 👌🏻
Legend! Thanks. It worked for me.
Thanks bro 😎 you just save me some money 💴
Your video was great. Got every swapped out
Thank you no one could tell me where that battery was located had problem you described Ed
Green video man! Subscribed!
Start stop is the least of jeep worries. Wait until the electrical zombi issues start. I found replacing the green Canbus behind the dash cleared everything up. But it took a ton of research to solve this because everyone including shops, blames the batteries. But all the batteries will test good. You have the reach to help a lot of people out. If you do a video on it.
Great video
Easy to do.
Be sure you have extra deep sockets.
@carlitoswayyz muchas gracias por el detalle de tu video. Recently my light came on. With your step my step detailed video I’ll be changing my battery. Thanks un millón 🎉
That came on today when I added a sound system to my car
Nice work! Just checking options, Under the fender seemed a tad easier, but not much lol
There's an easier way to change the auxiliary battery. Turn the front wheels all the way to the left, then remove the three 10mm bolts and the push pins that are holding the splash guard in place under the right front fender, then remove the splash guard. The box for the auxiliary battery has three 10mm bolts holding it in place that you can remove from underneath. Swap the battery like the video described by removing the 5/32 studs and install them on the new battery, then just reverse the process to put the battery box and splash guard back in place. Note: One of the push pins has a larger head than the others and will break when you remove it, but you can get replacements at Autozone.
Much easier way to this is remove the wheel, inner fender and 3 10mm bolts and the battery comes out. No need to take the fuse box out.
Do you have a video by any chance?
Remove tire. Remove 2 10mm screws, 3 push pins. Pull fender liner towards front of Jeep. 3 10mm screws holding the box up. Remove those. Battery is there!
Im confused. Why not just charge the aux battery ? Or is it dead for good ?
So will removing the battery help disable the start/stop?
Thank you doe 💯👍🙏
just had my start stop battery replaced and just got a service the start stop system warning light. Any advice?
Just pulled off the lot and this light came on. Is it possible to just charge the aux battery?
I did replace the battery but it still not working do you know if it requires me to drive after I installed the battery or shall I replace the main battery as well?
2018 jeep compass ,it only came on at -20 on a cold day .
My JL and many other JLs don't have that little battery under the TIPM. We have a suitcase sized 48 volt battery between the frame rails.
I have this problem! Where I can see this battery? Help
This just happened on my 2022 Jeep compass with 18,000 miles on it.. probably never buying a Jeep again. It’s my first one. I can’t do all this engine shit. It’s just a lease though.
what did you pay for that battery?
I just bought a 2020 Jeep wrangler and the start/stop warning light turned on. I have warranty, will the warranty cover this or is this considered maintenance?
Warranty will not cover the cost of the 160 dollar battery
Warranty does cover the batteries if the jeep is under warranty, because jeep knows that the Mopar batteries suck. Buddy of mine just had his replaced under warranty right at the 2 year mark.
How much do u pay if is still cover? Like do u pay just for labor??
Im just leaving the light on😂
My mom’s jeep is showing the same light. She had the battery replaced at the dealership but it’s still on and they said it would reset automatically. Thoughts?
Occasionally it’s as simple as replacing the battery and it goes away since the auto start is on a separate battery. I replaced the battery through the top (disconnecting the battery) it went away immediately. Try disconnecting the main battery wait a couple minutes and reconnect, the light is for the auto start stop function it just won’t turn off and on when your stopped.
If this battery is bad would it cause the whole vehicle to require a jump? After sitting for while without running?
This happened to me yesterday …..
Short answer is yes, if the AUX battery starts going bad it then starts to drain your main battery until both are messed up. Just watch a video on here about bypassing the aux battery, I upgraded my main battery to the H7 and bypassed the aux battery and it's been awesome. I don't care for the start/stop feature, it's bad on your engine.
Quick question with the auto assist problem make your check engine light come on as well??
On my application the check engine never came on just the auto start symbol. You can take it your nearest auto parts store and they scan it free.
Mine definitely did, but it eventually corrected itself after a week or so
I have 2021 JLU. I disconnected the switch under the hood to deactivate the auxiliary battery. I get the light but put tape over it. The auxiliary battery drains the main battery.
I'm considering this as well.
@GestapoPussyRanch all good so far. Not sure if it prevents battery from draining. That is main reason I did it.
Is that auxiliary battery charged through recouperative braking?
Are you thinking of EV/hybrid regenerative braking? Otherwise I dont see why the alternator wouldnt charge this battery.
The AUX battery is wired inline with the main battery, so yes the alternator does charge both. Not by braking.
Hasn't the radio been deprogrammed? Or it asked you for a password
If you don’t care about the start/stop system can you ignore it?
What a pain in the ass This crap right here is why I will never buy a new jeep your paying for crap you don`t need or want most people after getting these things want to get rid of the stop start also that damn TPMS light The stop start does nothing but wear out your starter motor faster and your electrical system like batteries For what a few drops of fuel just keeping it maintained will cost more But am sure the dealers love it because it`s more money in there pockets
My little a w circle light is on but I don't have remote start or auto start feature my jeep jl doesn't turn off on at stop lights
You are fortunate.
Does the light go away right away or does it take a while for the car to recognize the new battery? I changed it a day ago but the light is still on
Hello! I just changed the auxiliary battery and now is showing me a message “ stop vehicle will shut off soon” did you figured out?
I have the same issue with a Grand Cherokee. The light is still on after the new battery. Did you resolve this on yours?
The light will go out only if you take the car to dealership. They will reinstall the program. I hate my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I hadn't have the dealer reset mine. He said once alarm set from no battery, they had to clear with the computer. No way for individual to do it.
I swapped the aux battery out still got the light on
Same
Same here
Same here
What did you end up doing ?
After replacing both batteries, I pulled out the fuses that had anything to do with the auxiliary battery, including the main fuse that is that medal one on the right side with, I think 5 fuses in one. My husband made sure they were all good. We also unhooked all power to the jeep and let it sit. When everything was put back in and power was reattached....the light went away and start stop started working again. None of my fuses were bad. I think all power needs to be off, so internal memory of some sort cleares... just my guess.
So did it go away the light?
I followed this video and mine went away and the system turned back on!
@@Theultrazombiekillerhow long did it take for your light to go away
@@rydergonzalez7764 It went away instantly, as in it never came back on when I started it again.
What if it is still happening and you already replaced both batteries?
Did you fix the issue?
That means its probably a blown fuse on that row of 6 numbered fuses
buy a taser mini and disable it
Replaced both batteries under warranty and light still comes on
Did you find out the issue
@@alanhernandez227 this must have done it. I took it to the dealership and they replaced both. It came on one more time and then never again. This was at about 30,000 miles
Coming from toyota world this its so weird theres a second battery for auto shutoff.
Also I was looking for a 140A fuse thinking it was under the top of the fuse box jsut to have the battery drop down on me and start sparking lmao
Also theres only 3 10mm bolts you unbolt if you go though the fender liner like i did. just make sure you dont drop the bolts in the frame holes like i did lol
I would rather have this feature not work.
Hi Carlitoswayyz, this is Kyra from Issyauto,a professional brand dedicated to producing the best car parts. We would like to invite you to do a review on our mudflaps for your JL. Would you have interest in working together? Look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for that information. Now I know not to buy a jeep 😂 🤣 😆 😅 imagine if the battery you put in is defective or only lasts 6 months and have to do all of that again to replace I think I would just set the car on fire lol. So how much would it cost at the dealership to replace 🤔? not everyone know that. thanks.
Good point best to not buy a jeep 🤣. The Stealership wanted 892.37 for primary and secondary batteries that is including the diagnosis and worst part is there isn’t a way to check it unless you do all the work taking it apart and test the actual battery.
@@Carlitoswayyz wow that's crazy. Why would they put a battery in that place why not in a easy access area ( forgot we talking about some engineers sitting in an office that know nothing about cars lol ) anyway thanks I'm pretty sure this video is going to help out a lot of people.
Or, you could buy a 392 Wrangler or 4xe Wrangler. Neither one has the aux battery, just a single 12v battery.
@@jorgemat8080 You can access it through the driver wheel well. It’s much easier
@Mechpg easier or not, a battery should not be hidden from the owner of the car. Manufacturers do that so the owner can't find the problem and take it to the dealer for an $800 battery. Meanwhile it costs 150 for the battery.
Only total idiot mechanical engineers would bury an "auxilliary" battery so deep down under so much electronics. =OR= more likely, Jeep management told the mech engineers to "bury" it deep so most Jeep owners would bring the car to the dealerships for service on the "auxillary" battery. In otherwords, JEEP Big Shots and Dealership Big Shops LOATH us "shade tree mechanics" and want to scrounge top dollar service money from us for what should be simple easy fixes/repairs. Either way, SHAME ON JEEP!! AWFUL DESIGN, AWFUL!!
Anywhere else and the battery would cook
That auto stop feature is, without a doubt, the dumbest thing ever put into any vehicle. I'm disgusted by the fact that my vehicle has this ,
