- Today's mountain bike ride is in Minneapolis at Theodore Wirth Park. The North Loop trail is now open so I'm riding it this morning along with South Loop, Glenwood and SW Wirth sections. Minneapolis might not be a mountain biking mecha but there are some good trails.

I'll just clarify my opinion on why the North Loop is always so slow to open. A good portion of that trail gets covered by the man made snow making for XC skiing. That snow gets piled up and packed down each winter. When spring comes, that snow melts and that water has to go somewhere. That leaves this part of the park very damp so the trails take longer to dry out and be rideable. Plus the city does not allow for the use of power tools by the MORC volunteers. If a big tree falls, they need to wait for the park services to get around to cutting it up for them. This spring several trees fell and this was one of the reasons the trails didn't open. Sounds like several volunteers arrived with hand held tools and cleared the trees.
I was just here.... my old home trails!! We used to ride the original area without break use. I did that this time making it all way through "Twister" to big rock roll, not the rocky area though. But after the bridge (your thumbnail) I rode that whole loop into the "North Star" area with no break use up to the funny rock turn. No one on these trails this time everyone checking out new areas and new trail in south---which are totally awesome again. Thanks!
That exit from the black section is tricky. With my bike I think I'd need to hop around that corner.
I'm impressed. That rock garden is a nemesis!
It normally gets me but I think I've found the line and tires to make it up.
One of my favorite trails in the metro!
It's a good one!
That damn skinny took me over Ten Attempts in one session to finally clean. Talk about a major timesuck! Good to see you on the bike and good to see Theo is open! I liked the Intro!
Thanks Travis! Yeah, that skinny takes some bike skills I don't have. Maybe one day after a hundred tries I'll figure it out.
Thanks for sharing....I did the North Loop for the first time yesterday, super fun.
I was there Saturday. I really like that trail. Lots of fun twists and turns.
Thanks for sharing, Brian. I just went out there this evening. North loop is one of my favs.
Thanks for watching! It's so close for me, it's often my week day ride.
Brian, would like to see a vid comparing Wirth at early morning versus midday, versus evening, basically showing how the same trail behaves differently depending on when ridden. thanks
So I typically record my riders early in the morning so that I can get the best light. During midday you get some harsh light that can make the videos appear less than ideal. Late afternoon is also a good time to record because the sun is lower in the sky.
Nice Brian. Good to see the videos rolling out for 2022 season.
Thanks. It's finally rising season so the content will be coming out.
Brian is the dean of Minnesota MTB video.
The best weekday spot!
Lot of variety and quick loops. Thanks.
Nice Brian. Trails look good. Bike sounds great. How's feel? I like the background music. Cool 😎. Not to loud but definitely there.
Thanks! I'm feeling better each day but there is some pain. I think staying active helps. Glad you like the music. I'm trying some new stuff so glad it's making a positive affect.
Nice work buddy 👍👍
Great Video. I need to get back to Theo - it's been at least 6 years for me.
You should! There have been a lot of changes over that time period.
Nice! First try. 2:06.
It's a tricky section. I've gotten better at it over the years.
To give credit where it is due. Volunteers took out all those trees this spring. With hand saws and muscles.
What rear hub are you running?
I9 Torch hub.
