    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    As mentioned in our previous video the most basic sewing in upholstery is the 'closing sewing or blind sewing' which is used to sew together two or more pieces of leather or vinyl in order to give shape to an upholstery project, such as covers or others.
    An oversewing is considered a top stitching which is done to reinforce the edges of a cover or other items. Besides, it gives shape and adds an ornamental view to the cover.
    As explained in the previous video, to do the first closing sewing I have used a 110=18 needle size and 92 (número 8 en México) polyester thread size. To get a tight and neat sewing I made short stitches 3 mm long.
    For the top stitching I made the stitches 6 mm long. I changed the 18=110 needle for another 130=21 thicker needle. It is useful to avoid the bending of the needle. It is medium size and also is capable of sewing with thicker 138 (número zero en México) thread size.
    To perform the oversewing I used a spring loaded right guide presser foot. As we can see the cover remains under the sewing machine head.
    In car upholstery is much better the use of a presser foot with the guide on the left. It means the cover would be handled much better because it remains on the outside left area of the sewing machine table. At any moment I will purchase a left guide presser foot.
    The same process and tips are applied on leather material.
    I hope you find this information useful!
    Cesar

    Hi Cechaflo I would like to thank you for all the help you have given me .
    I have the same Pfaff 1245 machine as you that's how I found your site and I am very grateful I did. Not only have you helped me with my sewing but also with fixing and timing my machine.
    I have made around 30 different types of bags now from the scraps from our local canvas repair shop.
    I do not do it to make money but for the enjoyment of giving them away to family and friends. So thanks again please don't stop teaching us your wealth of knowledge. Regards Gordon.

    I never get tired of watching you work your magic. Thank you. Do you have a preference on which of those 2 corner methods you prefer?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 роки тому +4

      The corner with the cuts was done to demonstrate how the lateral edge with its 1 cm allowance matches the other piece edge beneath. The cuts help a lot to precisely shape and sew the round corners. It clearly shows how the edge on these corners are stretched.
      By understanding this, with a little more training I will use the method of no cuts. It will be faster.

      @@Cechaflo that’s kind of what I figured. I do have trouble with those round corners, trying to hold them tight. I’ll have to try the slit method next time. Thanks.

      @@robthewaywardwoodworker9956 Definitely those slits make the sewing on those corners easier by having flat edges.

      @@robthewaywardwoodworker9956 if you're doing something with small radius turns like a head rest the best result will be if you don't staple/baste the two pieces together. Lay the piece with the curve/turn on the sewing machine base and the straight piece on top. While sewing, as you get to the turn, just keep the edge of top strait piece lined up to the edge of the bottom piece and go carefully stitch by stitch. Put several witness marks before/after and one in the middle of the curve to make sure you stay on track. I found this was the best technique for when both pieces you are sewing have a foam backing. With foam on both pieces and both pieces stapled/based together, in the curve the needle exits in the bottom further in than your seam allowance. The bottom part or curve will be sewn with more than 1cm allowance. I think it's because of the thickness of the assembly and how the needle goes down through the layers of foam. If you don't base together but just do as I said above it minimizes this problem. /John

      I was using an 'Arrow' trademark stapler in this video. Not really of good quality. Two of them were useless in a short time.
      I found another stapler much better. The 'Pilot' trademark. Useful for 8 mm long staples legs and 4 mm long staples.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Місяць тому +1

      Only for the small front foot. It helps to get a more clear and wider view by watching the needle point. It does not affect the sewing process.

    I don't bother with the guide foot. It's easier to use the swing down guide with the roller on it if you have an edge to follow.
    Set the guide so it just clears the top surface, then flush the roller to the foot and back off a little. Easy and works well!
