great video - as are the rest. your conversations, mixed with the ATC communications make these interesting and entertaining. Love the 4k resolution too - best
Been looking forward to this mini series James since you said it was in the editing pipeline. First episode of this epic trip was really good and I wait eagerly for the next one. Well done the pair of you! 😎👍👏
A few days ago I saw a silver Ercoupe on one of the Oshkosh arrivals videos. I got all excited, and rewound to check the registration... it wasn't you, but it made me wonder if you would do another series; your last one was sooo good! And... here you are! Sorry to hear of another case of UA-cam high-handedness, they do not seem to understand the value of their content creators. Thanks again... looking forward to the rest. (Damn the smoke!)
I've been searching to see if anyone caught the mass-arrival on video, but haven't seen anything yet. I do have a few videos of us departing, but the arrival would be great. Thanks for the kind works!
@@JamesGood : N94352 was the aircraft I spotted. It had a ring antenna that I knew you didn't have, but you might have been adding "period" accessories. This is not where I saw it... I'm fairly sure it was an Arrival video, but this is the same bird. ua-cam.com/video/N3nNyfHrvEM/v-deo.html
Not sure what day you left Nevada County, but we flew through there on our way back to Idaho on July 22. Man, that was a turbulent flight that day. After passing Reno/Stead, we had to return to Reno/Stead due to total IMC from the smoke. We ended up flying the highway at 1000 AGL all the way back to Caldwell, ID. When we stopped at Winnemucca, a helicopter landed right after us. The pilot had picked up two Apache fire fighters in Arizona and was taking them to fight fires in Oregon. We had a nice chat with the three of them, then wished them well as they took off.
You're absolutely right. We flew down to PRB on the 15th of July, and had to deal with smoke in Idaho, but it cleared up within an hour. Then we had a fantastic flight the rest of the way. I don't know if I told you before, but you got me hooked on using Flight Following. So I now file VFR Flight Plans and use Flight Following on my X-Country flights. My wife loves the added safety of having a controller to talk to when we're in the middle of nowhere. Thanks again. Looking forward to the rest of your Osh series.
haha, yeah, me neither. It happened just before we left on this trip, was rather upset at first. But I've realized it's not that important in the big picture. Still fun to make these, preserve my memories, and share with like-minded people. :)
This is gonna be a great series and I'm sure looking forward to watching it. That was a great video to kick it off. I really do hope you get the whole UA-cam monetization problem fixed soon. I'm sure you're not making a fortune off them but hey every little bit helps. Thanks for sharing this with us all and I'll see you in the next one.
Looking forward to watching the rest of this trip. We got caught in the smoke leaving OSH headed south at 4’500. It was not pleasant even in the flatlands. I can’t imagine how it felt over the mountains.
We were heading back to Missouri. The smoke gave way to low clouds and even though we never lost sight of the ground, it was an unpleasant feeling. And that was with flatlands below us.
The smoke in western Nevada these days is absolutely terrible! I had to cancel a flight lesson a couple of days ago because visibility was under 3 miles in Carson City.
Hey Randy. I have a Clarity Aloft, which I like. We tried to buy another, but needed it quick before the trip, and the Faro was available next day. So we went with that... Seems pretty good so far.
Flying in the smoke is no fun, my home airport (KLMT) has been full of smoke the last few months. Not much flying happening for me. I'll tag along for the fun of it. Thanks for sharing. jb
Yeah, I hope I can get to some of the September/October Fly-Ins that are planned (Grants Pass, Hood River, Lone Pine, High Sierra), but who knows which will be possible / enjoyable right now. Not looking good.
This was very good, loved every minute. You guys always seem to be so pleasant to be around. I have four kids myself, do you guys have any? Greetings from North Alabama!
I just don't know. But I haven't given up avenues to figure it out yet. I'm sure it's an error on their part, just got to figure out how to find what it is, and who can fix it for me.
Are you not going to be using UA-cam for the remainder of your videos? Also, why are you always trying to get off at "civil daylight" and land before "civil twilight"? Are you flying on a sport license? 805 should be quite capable of night flight...right?
Desert flying at night? No thanks! :) Night flying when I started in Miami was great, there was always an orange glow, and you had a horizon. No so out in these rural areas. So I don't do it often, and I'm not very comfortable with it. But yes, I have a full private certificate, and 805 is quite capable of it.
@@JamesGood makes sense about no horizon. Just curious because you’ve mentioned it in several videos. I learned to fly over the ocean in Hawaii. Same situation at night except when around an island. Thanks for your videos!
Hey Randy. Over the ocean at night sounds interesting! Did you do much of that? I'm still pursuing trying to get things sorted out at YT. I do think it's the best out there, anywhere else just doesn't have the critical mass of users.
@@JamesGood yes, I did do quite a bit of "over the water" night flight in Hawaii, usually either every Saturday or Sunday night. I flew as a mission pilot for the CAP and we had responsibilities to fly the shorelines of adjacent islands. However, it's not as difficult as one might expect. After you get some altitude You can generally see the "glow" of lights on the next island unless you are going to/from Kauai/Oahu. Only time it gets dicey is when there are lots of lower level clouds that prevent you from seeing the islands on the horizon on very dark nights. I used to love night flight there! It was incredible especially on full moon nights. Out over the ocean there is no light pollution so the stars are absolutely breathtaking. And, you've not lived till you've seen the Green Flash the instant the sun drops below the horizon. INCREDIBLE!!!
Sounds amazing, would love to experience that one day. Must have been quite exciting, especially the first times you did it! Thanks for the details, Randy.
That's probably definitely the reason. They just need to add a support line to help inform me of the correct number to include. I've heard too many is as bad as too few.
Thank you for the offer Dave, I wasn't expecting an offer as generous as that! We actually bought one, a Faro. I'll do an update on how the Faro is when we've lived with it for a bit.
Ahh! Ep 1, settling in for the mega series... Sorry to hear the YT cretins have demonetized you, perhaps if we all use the 'D' word, the robot will tell the human!
Thanks Steven. All good, it is what it is! It's also a great thing, even with it's downsides... I wouldn't be able to share this with the world without it.
God I cannot get over how cute that plane is.
Good LUCK....have FUN. I watched all of your last trip. Quite a trip in the pretty little Ercoupe,
Enjoyed your video! Thanks for the ride!
It feels as if we are tagging along in an imaginary jump seat, and it’s a great ride.
Thanks, nice to hear that! We love inviting you all along...
Glad to see you back!! and now with company god bless you both.
Thanks for posting the flight log. Now I can fly along with you in ForeFlight.
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing
Hey Darrell! Thanks for watching. :)
Delighted to see the first of these come through. Looking forward to the journey 👍🏼
Again, enjoying your wonderful productions and KOSH AirVenture!,,,, sold my Ercoupe bought a 172E, but always
Love the ‘coupe and your stuff!
Glad to hear from you again, Gale. Hope you're having fun with the 172, and glad you're sticking around with 805's adventures!
Really great video, thanks folk.

I have been eagerly awaiting the start of your adventure to Oshkosh James - many thanks for sharing. Cheers from OZ
Hi James. I'm a newbie to your channel and I like what I see. Keep it up. From NZ, Cheers.

I am glad Diane is having a good time! Darwin was neat looking; Charles was in dreamland:)
Another wonderful vid - I do luv me some Ercoupe - and your plane looks even better in person than it appears in these vids.
Thank you for posting this!! You flew over my property near Rye Patch Reservoir. :)
Oh cool! We did on the way back too, had great fun flying low over the water on the way back, chasing a boat. :) Hope we didn't disturb you.

Likewise, David! Nice to see your videos. I wish we had got each other on video, oh well, next time.
Good job , James... looking for more
I'm working on the next one now, Mark! Shouldn't be too long.
Why the heck were you de-monetized?? Can't figure that at all.

We were heading back to Missouri. The smoke gave way to low clouds and even though we never lost sight of the ground, it was an unpleasant feeling. And that was with flatlands below us.
@@gfiggins Yes, that's a nasty feeling. Maybe similar to what we had just past Reno.
Great vid, Charles. I think your GoPro mounted on the exterior of the aircraft would benefit from an art-deco style fairing. That would be stylish!
A nice little Aluminium faired pod? That would be cool. :)
13:31....was wondering if you had AC😂 Love the ship!
haha, we do, keeping it simple!
It's the British type of AC, lower the windows!

Looking forward to the next leg. Don't go without me.
Departing gate 415-E shortly!

I forgot to put that in the video, Jeff, oops. I did put it up here, click on Day 1 - www.ercoupetv.com/adventures/Oshkosh2021
@@JamesGood Thanks for the link. That is great content online.
At 5:45 James put a small orange device at the top center of the instrument panel. What was it?
Hello Jeff. That's a Garmin InReach Mini satellite tracker/communicator. Works as an SOS communicator if I land off airport, with no phone service.
@@JamesGood Thank you for the explanation James!
The smoke in western Nevada these days is absolutely terrible! I had to cancel a flight lesson a couple of days ago because visibility was under 3 miles in Carson City.
I saw on one of Juan's videos, the smoke was awful over Carson. Sorry you're having to deal with that.

Thanks, Scott!
Wow - an Ercoupe AND an R60...good taste. Do you have a motorcycle as well???
Of course! R1150R.
@@JamesGood Excellent. FJR1300 rider here. Next step an airplane LOL. Always loved the little Ercoupe.
I see Diane has a new set of headsets. What headsets are y'all using now? How well do they delete noise (engine/wind)?
Hey Randy. I have a Clarity Aloft, which I like. We tried to buy another, but needed it quick before the trip, and the Faro was available next day. So we went with that... Seems pretty good so far.
Both seem to handle the open cockpit noise pretty well. As well, if not better than conventional ANR headsets that I've used (Lightspeed and Bose).
Have spent many hours at that airport.
Which airport, Winnemucca? Seemed like a nice place.
