OMG Tokos at 2-3000 XP (!?) Wish I had read your ace guide sooner champ, thanks a lot ! 👏 Subscribed. Yah I always do side quests etc, excellent skills given. Absolutely right, some of the boss fights are tough and will annihilate you 👍
Things i found out in my gameplay: 1) enemy ! Mark If your under leveled, you may think this means they are chasing you. However that is not the case. This actually means they saw you. So they give chase to you. However it is possible to avoid encounters. It may seem impossible to avoid them but thats where your wrong. Each enemy has there own way of chasing you. However some enemies will charge straight forward. Making a straight line without any turns. And some enemies are faster/slower then others If your over leveled, they start to run away from you. If they continue to run, they fade off the map ending the chase. 2) quests and bounties The quests and bounties arent limited to the area your in. But all the areas in ni no kuni. New ones comes in after you finish a main story quest. At first they are strictly limited to one area like at ding dong dell. But as you progress the main story, they start to expland. The quests and bounties do not have there own level but the number of stamps. Sometimes you get a bonus stamp. The number of stamps applied to a quest or bounty may be used as a difficulty level. Like 1-5 stamps. 1 the easiest and 5 the hardest. 3) familiars when you get new familiars or you upgrade them, they start at lvl 1. But every familar is different in statitics and exp rates. Getting low exp rates gives you more bonuses. But getting high exp rate gives you less bonuses. For example: familiars with high exp rate: +5 at +5 def Low rate: +1 atk +2 def However the stat that will get the best is depending on what genius and symbol they have. You gotta know the symbol weakeness/strength path. Sun -> Moon -> Star Sun is stronger then moon but weaker then star Moon is stronger then star but weaker then sun Star is stronger then sun but weaker then moon. 4) Combat Every familiar has different stat values but they also have different attack and movement speed. These cannot be upgraded however. If you have esther in the party and she dies, she and her familiars will still gain exp. 5) Areas Each area has enemies with different levels and the areas are usually blocked from entering until certain magic is acquired or progressing the story. WARNING!!! if you do attempt to unblock a area that was blocked then enter, enemies will make short work of you! 6) treats and metamorphosis crystals Treats are used to give one of the stats a boost! And metamorphosis gems evolves them. However theres a limit to how much stats can go up(10 at default). However you can increase the cap by giving them there favorite treat. Each familiar GENIUS will have there own favorite treat! When you give them a favorite treat, the hearts will show when they finished eating. Plus there familiarity heart will grow. When it grow completely, the cap increases. You can go up to 50 stat boost cap.
Absolutely, I think the most complicated part of NNK is the classification of Familiars so I'm currently working on videos to help explain/simplify genus types, astral signs and party member compatibilities 😁
Easy way to get Tokos was my Mite's Smash attack which 1 shot killed him, also use 2 controllers, 1 turbo on X with a rubber band round it, for all normal mobs, as soon as you get a Toko (always middle creature) switch to normal controller to make sure you kill it before it runs off 🤗

Hey thanks for this. I always wanted to play it but my mom died when I was young so I kept putting it on the back burner. I finally got it. This really helped me because I will spent everything I don’t use. Now I will hoard everything!! Lol.
Thank you so much for putting this together. A brilliant video, and thanks to your efforts I think I'm going to get more enjoyment out of it. One puzzling thing is the side and bounty quests. In the Xenoblade games, if you want to take on a side quest you select it and you have a lovely breadcrumb system guiding you to the goal(s). I've not seen anything like that here. You have the star icon pointing you towards the next main story goal, but I couldn't find anything to point you towards a side quest goal. Have I missed something or are you left to your own devices when it comes to finding the locations of side quests and bounties? Keep up the great work!
Thanks! You are left to your own devices with the bounty hunts and side quests, however they are very straightforward. If you go in Swift Solutions in any town you can pick them up (Errands off the board and bounties from speaking to the man) and then you can view all the details in your journal including the locations. They also show as blue and green flashing dots on the map of the area you are in. I hope this helps :)
U deserve more subs! Great video. Recently started to play this on the steam Deck. Been grinding in the desert and I'm gonna start moving the story along until I get to the grind spot you mentioned. Thanks!
@@swagatbiswal9263 ur nuts!! I'm at level 30 and I can't fathom fighting beating him, based on how hard the previous boss battles were. Actually, when I fought him the first time he appeared, I was putting hands on him, I was kind of disappointed when he fled off, and Drippy(the star of the game by far) talking about he's too tough for us. Lol!!
Wow!! This game does a GREAT job of not telling you how to play. I never knew that you could redeem familiar tickets at the trials, and I didn't know that you're supposed to return to the tree as you progress, I'm 54 hours in and I still feel like a rookie!
Yeah, the Griffy ticket is quite game changing, I always default to it once I get to Temple of Trials because its a stronger familiar. There's a lot of things the game doesn't tell you :D
When you show the battle with the porco machine thingy, it looks like you do defend for yourself and an all out defend but then the attack still massively damages you?? Is that bc the attack is just ridiculously hard hitting or did you defend timer run out? Tho for the latter I wouldn’t have thought so since it wasn’t even a long time span since you defend and when the attack hits. I’m about to go into this battle so any help would be appreciated! (I also don’t have enough ingredients to make cappuccinos or espressos yikes) Thank you!
Unfortunately, defending only reduces the amount of damage taken. Porco is weak to storm magic so i switch between Esthers Drongo and Olivers magic, and defend at the right moments to prompt 'nice!' which spawns golden glims. In my playthrough I got a lot golden glims using this strategy so i could perform lots of miracle moves :) Hope this helps. Its definitely worth getting and the combat system is far from boring. Its a hybrid style of live action and turn based combat where you can run around the battle area and issue commands to party members or creatures that you can send out and fight on your behalf (similar to pokemon). Its very engaging :)

hi guys is there some way i could get the wizards companion (from wrath of the white witch, not the jet black mage) in 2022? I've been looking all over the internet and didn't find anything, and this is the irl book...
I have been using a IGN walkthrough to help me through, & I always get 3 to 5 levels higher then they recommend for boss battles & have not trouble so far defeating them, But I made the mistake of taking on enemies in the highland area, & was amazed at how much damage their attacks do, & when I tried to go into inventory to eat to regain health, to avoid getting killed, I was surprised that I could not do it, & I got a game over & lost 10% of my money. So far I defeated 3 bosses & have about 24 hours game play. I read that for enemies in the high area, you should be at 35 minimum & right now I am at 30 & have orders to get on the ship for the first time.
During battles you can access all of your HP/MP restoring items through the 'provisions' menu option which freezes the action while you make your selection. Also, phoenix feathers can bring fallen party members back from unconsciousness so if Oliver becomes unconscious, you can switch to another party member and give Oliver a phoenix feather. There is a secret hidden phoenix feather right at the foot of old smoky
The jelly is quite hard, however Porco Grosso has moves that can empty your health bar with a single hit. But I agree, he's not too bad if u defend in time, have plenty of HP/MP, and give him a wide berth during battle :) - Heather
I’m replaying the game, I only got to the forest guardian in my original play through on my ps3 and when I saw the remaster on switch I was so excited! I’m on Old Smokey and I’m stuck!
Thank you for the tips. I noticed one can save multiple copies of your progress or either rewrite one record. Do you recommend to create multiple records?
The only reason I can think of to create separate save slots would be if you want to easily revisit certain moments in the game. Otherwise I'm not sure why you would need separate save slots. It does cost money to continue a game after dying though, so perhaps it might be worth saving before boss battles so you can reload the save without having to spend money to continue
Glad to hear it! I might be doing a part 2 for this video because there was a lot more I wanted to include but I didn't want the video to be too long :D I love Ni No Kuni anyway so I will definitely upload more videos related to this amazing game! Maybe even a full playthrough :)

Okay, I finally got to the island and I'm getting my ass kicked. For anyone wondering, I recommend grinding up to at least lvl 25 or so and getting a fuck ton of provisions because until you get ur first too you're gonna want to jump off a cliff. Wasted 2 hours of my life until I finally got one after dying 20 times
Every little helps haha but yes, this game doesn't have a hard mode or anything (I wish it did!) and you can be successful in the game without maxing out the stats
yes, you are right, porco is weak against thunder/electric familiars if I'm remembering correctly. Esther's Drongo can use Thunderspark which is useful. I spammed Pulse spell on my first playthrough because I didn't know the game very well yet...it was effective, but a very slow win haha

Dude, heres a tip that will save you a tons of time and tedium from grinding : there's a difficulty setting. Set it to easy and say goodbye to grinding and farming :)
You could definitely try changing the difficulty to easy mode :) but please note that the difficulty affects which familiars roam in different areas. I am also certain that you get less XP on easy mode and therefore it seems to make it even harder to level up when needed.
@@sensitiveartistguy I think so yes, but I'm not 100% sure...I remember it somehow taking a lot longer to level up on easy mode than it did on normal mode and i remember having the revelation that i got a little less xp in the same battle, but this was a few years ago!
Personally I prefer Wrath of the White Witch over Revenant Kingdom...but they are very different and a lot of people favour Revenant Kingdom (primarily due to the combat system I think)
I've spend almost 20 hours with this game ON EASY and still struggle even with some random fights, this is ridiculous. What level are you? I'm normally around level 27 before taking on tokos. Its best to get the most XP from each area before moving on. That's great, will this be your first playthrough? If so, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :) - Heather
Upon finishing your video you deserve more subs this was very informative
Just started last night and I'm thankful I found this before I went any further.
OMG Tokos at 2-3000 XP (!?) Wish I had read your ace guide sooner champ, thanks a lot ! 👏 Subscribed. Yah I always do side quests etc, excellent skills given. Absolutely right, some of the boss fights are tough and will annihilate you 👍
Things i found out in my gameplay:
1) enemy ! Mark
If your under leveled, you may think this means they are chasing you.
And some enemies are faster/slower then others
If your over leveled, they start to run away from you. If they continue to run, they fade off the map ending the chase.
2) quests and bounties
The quests and bounties arent limited to the area your in.
3) familiars
when you get new familiars or you upgrade them, they start at lvl 1. But every familar is different in statitics and exp rates.
Getting low exp rates gives you more bonuses. But getting high exp rate gives you less bonuses.
For example: familiars with high exp rate:
+5 at +5 def
Low rate:
+1 atk +2 def
However the stat that will get the best is depending on what genius and symbol they have.
You gotta know the symbol weakeness/strength path.
Sun -> Moon -> Star
Sun is stronger then moon but weaker then star
Moon is stronger then star but weaker then sun
Star is stronger then sun but weaker then moon.
4) Combat
Every familiar has different stat values but they also have different attack and movement speed. These cannot be upgraded however.
If you have esther in the party and she dies, she and her familiars will still gain exp.
5) Areas
Each area has enemies with different levels and the areas are usually blocked from entering until certain magic is acquired or progressing the story. WARNING!!! if you do attempt to unblock a area that was blocked then enter, enemies will make short work of you!
6) treats and metamorphosis crystals
Treats are used to give one of the stats a boost!
Easy way to get Tokos was my Mite's Smash attack which 1 shot killed him, also use 2 controllers, 1 turbo on X with a rubber band round it, for all normal mobs, as soon as you get a Toko (always middle creature) switch to normal controller to make sure you kill it before it runs off 🤗
Thanks for the video! I am starting my own run of this game and trying to platinum it before June and these tips really help.
Good luck! It took me a while to get the platinum because of the alchemy trophy and how rare some item drops are :D let me know if you need any trophy tips
@@Amalgamingle Yes, I know about the rare scrolls you need to slingshot with Swaine from the golden honky-tonkers. I've been there. Trust me, I am going to brace myself for a long haul.
Awesome video! Thanks for making it. I put this game down a few years ago for no particular reason. This makes me want to hook up my ps3 and continue
thanks! sorry for not replying sooner...u should definitely continue with this game. Normally i always get distracted by new and shiny games and leave old saves unfinished, but not with Ni No Kuni, it just grabbed my attention in a way most games don't - Heather
I recently restarted this game. Nice guide. Love your accent.
I appreciate the hell out of this video. @Amalgamingle thankyou so much!!
I wished I had realised you can farm Tokos way earlier - I only discovered this towards the end (shortly before Shadar) and then I just went and increased everyone to 70 and then 80+ (except for Swaine since I kept alternating with Spoiler character - who I ended up not even using) for the White Witch.
I was the same in my first playthrough. I had to do so much grinding but its like a rite of passage we all have to go through before we discover the blessed tokos haha - Heather
The grinding for Porco Groso is great for getting guilders as well
Ive played this game sibce i was 5 and playing alongside my dad. Even 10 years later im still charmed by the games unique style and have found my own wayd to make it more challenging and fresh.
Flipping tidy mun. Some great tips in here.
Already gave the like. Rewatching a second time😁👍🏼
Thanks! I've done a second tip video for the game 'more things', however, that includes post game and trophy tips so better to watch that when you have finished the story :)
@@Amalgamingle Ta, already watched it. Don't worry about spoilers. If I don't want spoilers I don't finish watching a video. And I already knew about some things before starting the game.

One tip whilst it's not a combat tip but the English dub is actually good especially if your welsh/British as the fairy's have a strong welsh/taffy accent it makes the comedy sketch at fairy Island very funny
Here because it’s on sale on eshop for less than 10$, been looking at this game for a while and this video made me buy it!
That's great! I hope you enjoy the game :)
Very helpful vid. Got this on Switch for a tenner. Amazing deal and a beaut of a game. Just got inside Ding Dong Dell. Loving it
A bargain for100+ hours of gameplay plus post-game content :D I love Ding Dong Dell, it looks like such a nice chilled out town. I would totally live there if i could haha - Heather
Excellent video! Currently stuck at Miasma marshes at level 40ish so I think it's time to farm some XP and metamorph some of my familiars I've been scared of dropping back down to level 1 🤣
When I came to Porko (just today) I was like:
"It seems like I will have to grind. Well... I only live once, so... Easy mode." Than... First try! Things you do when you're older.
haha totally! For my first playthrough, I normally play most games on easy mode to get a feel for the game and then increase the difficulty incrementally for playthroughs that follow if I like the game :) - Heather
@@Amalgamingle Can you give me a hint? Do you suggest I keep leveling up the same familiars at this point of the game? It seems like a good idea in the moment
@@douglasj5490 I normally default to levelling up a Griffy that can be obtained at The Temple of Trials by trading in familiar tickets already in the bottomless bag. Any familiar with Earsplitter as a magical ability is also good :) If you are happy with your current familiar setup since you have gotten this far with them, then yes, stick with those until after completing Skull Mountain (The Barrens)
@@Amalgamingle THANKS!
Just discovered this game this weekend. I'm hooked
I always do side quests first. The rewards are worth your time. Plus it'll save you some money.
I'm playing this game again. Whilst cycling on my exercise bike 😅 I Wana collect all the creatures in this play through.
I love exp grinding so I never had an issue with leveling 😂
For bosses, I've learned to call an all defense and then after a second, guard, it seems unreasonable because you risk getting attacked, but the guard times out otherwise
Took me 5 attempst to defeat that tank.I didnt made expresso, i didnt farming toco, i selected normal difficulty, but know im at pirates sky.. thanks anyway now im know where to get toco.
Getting to the sky pirates on normal difficulty without knowing about using tokos and MP alchemy is quite impressive, well done! I can't imagine how much grinding you have endured! - Heather
I just started this game, thanks for these!!
I’m sure you’ve Heard this before, but I must say you sound like the tragic character Mary Reed. Love it.
Thanks! To be honest, that's the first time I've been compared to Mary Reed haha - Heather
Didn't knew this channel, but that's a very good video! Thx!
Here cause of the steam sale, gonna dive into this game! Ty for video
Wished i watched this earlier already 18 hours in😭😭
What part of the game are u up to? :)
Same here! I just got the got done with Hamlin. I am about to start over lol
In towns in the map you see green dots for heart pickups and blue dots for side quest givers, excellent game 👍
its 9.99 on the ps store right now, finally picked it up =)
U deserve more subs! Great video. Recently started to play this on the steam Deck. Been grinding in the desert and I'm gonna start moving the story along until I get to the grind spot you mentioned. Thanks!
Replaying this and just about to enter hamelin. Glad i watched this!
2nd time playing. Tracking down the weaker familars as soon as i had the option to tame them , so mitey wont be my only power house

Probably best to get all adult things done before starting this game because you will not want to turn it off, its too good! haha

Lol!!
@@astralmindny9055 Oh thats why he is hitting like a truck🥲...I should grind a bit more then.

Here's the link to the battle with commentary/tips if you want to have a look (battle starts - 14:00) ua-cam.com/video/8Mn7yjv9Zcg/v-deo.html
@@Amalgamingle thank you! I didn’t know defending at the right time was important. I did die a couple of times but eventually got through, and this was super helpful!
Leveling up a familiar before metamorphing is bull it has hardly any effect. Learn the moves then morph
I loove how charming the game looks, the music, graphics, familiars.. i just feel kinda unsure about the combat system cause I am worried I am going to get bored of it.
Right now the game is on sale (9€) I dont know if i should give it a tryyy HELP D:
Its definitely worth getting and the combat system is far from boring. Its a hybrid style of live action and turn based combat where you can run around the battle area and issue commands to party members or creatures that you can send out and fight on your behalf (similar to pokemon). Its very engaging :)
@@Amalgamingle thank you so much for replying and explaining! I appreciate it and I will probably try it :D

Hey I was looking for recommendations for dark cloud 1 and 2 for the switch and Ni No Kuni Poped up. I got luck with a deal on it do I had to try it I hope it's great if not better then dark cloud.

hi guys is there some way i could get the wizards companion (from wrath of the white witch, not the jet black mage) in 2022? I've been looking all over the internet and didn't find anything, and this is the irl book...
Same here, I would love to own a Wizards Companion! I think there's a few on eBay but they are rare and expensive, especially the English version.
I don't get the Porco Grosso difficultly spike cause I struggled with the jellyfish boss at fairy island much more and easily did it when it was time
The jelly is quite hard, however Porco Grosso has moves that can empty your health bar with a single hit. But I agree, he's not too bad if u defend in time, have plenty of HP/MP, and give him a wide berth during battle :) - Heather
@@Amalgamingle I grinded quite a bit for the Jelly so I guess I was over-leveled for Porco Grosso
I’m replaying the game, I only got to the forest guardian in my original play through on my ps3 and when I saw the remaster on switch I was so excited! I’m on Old Smokey and I’m stuck!
Did you redeem Griffy at the Temple of Trials?
Thank you for the tips. I noticed one can save multiple copies of your progress or either rewrite one record. Do you recommend to create multiple records?
The only reason I can think of to create separate save slots would be if you want to easily revisit certain moments in the game. Otherwise I'm not sure why you would need separate save slots. It does cost money to continue a game after dying though, so perhaps it might be worth saving before boss battles so you can reload the save without having to spend money to continue

I wish Nintendo had trophies on the switch
100%! That would be so good, however, sometimes I feel too done with a game when i've gotten all the trophies...once I get that platinum it zaps all my motivation to play the game again (unless i absolutely adore the game of course)
How do you get to ugly duck island without dying? The monsters are so fast and I can never run away
8:10. You only gain a small 10% carry over in stats. Its really not worth the grind. You might as well metamorph early.
Every little helps haha but yes, this game doesn't have a hard mode or anything (I wish it did!) and you can be successful in the game without maxing out the stats
pulse seems bad agoinst porco, dont?
I mean, the damage is in blue, it means not very effective.
yes, you are right, porco is weak against thunder/electric familiars if I'm remembering correctly. Esther's Drongo can use Thunderspark which is useful. I spammed Pulse spell on my first playthrough because I didn't know the game very well yet...it was effective, but a very slow win haha
storm element familiars destroy porco grasso, luckily i had two on my team when i ran into him

Hello, I just got the boat and went to the toko island, but the mites and lehmals there are too strong for me to take it, do you know somewhere else to grind?
There are a few places I can think of but the familiars are quite tough in those places also...if you haven't done this already, check inside your bottomless bag for familiar tickets. If you return to the temple of trials you should be able to trade in the tickets for stronger familiars. I highly recommend using Griffy because it has high physical attack. If you have already got the Griffy then the only thing I can suggest is to return to the area outside castaway cove and level up some more but the Griffy is quite a game-changer :) I hope this helps - Heather x

I just got the ship, went to the toko island, but the familiars are just so overleveld that I kept dying. Am I doing something wrong?
What level are you? I'm normally around level 27 before taking on tokos. Its best to get the most XP from each area before moving on. A good way to tell when you have exhausted XP is that the familiars in the area start running away from you. I would also recommend using Griffy, a familiar that can be gained through exchanging familiar tickets at the Temple of Trials (already in your bottomless bag in the remaster).
Thank you very much!!! I am around 25, gonna work on exhausting all that XP right away!
