    That was awesome! How interesting that the Mason jars did so much better. I think you are right, it was surface area per seed in a larger container. Have you tried growing lettuce from the leftover hearts? Loved the video, and can't wait to see what you guys are doing next :)

      Just moved to Homer in June but lived in Palmer for the last 4 years. I lived in San Jose and Santa Clara for 13 years so I know the rat race feeling you came from.
      Bought a 3 bedroom house on 2.7 acres with 2 dry cabins in Homer. Not quite remote but sure feels that way. Backs up to public land. It’s so peaceful here. If you guys ever want to road trip, come on down! And bring all the pets!

    Really good info. I recently started doing sprouts again after seeing Dans Bois Homestead doing it. I use the jar method but I wasn't letting all of the water drain out like you are doing with the jar upside down. I think that is the key to super healthy looking sprouts. I think mine had too much moisture/liquid remaining in the jar because I just dumped out the liquid best I could and then set the jar on the counter again. I do rinse twice a day though. I didn't know about sanitizing either so this video was a big help to me. Thanks guys! And thanks again for the card and gift. You really made a great night even better. ❤

    • @SimpleLivingAlaska
      @SimpleLivingAlaska  5 років тому +1

      I tried to look for their video where they covered that but couldn't find it. It was the first time with the jars and I wasn't quite sure if I was really supposed to let them drain that fast but it worked! Glad to hear you enjoyed the gift :)

    Yum! I love the fresh crunch on sandwiches or in salads.
    Add to your bread, the next time you bake! I use wheat berries, spelt and all kinds of beans and seeds. Usually only need to sprought for 3 days.
    I have always used glass mason jars with fine mesh, screen lids. There is more airflow. (Don't like using plastic.) Never bothered with sanitizing the seeds. Use spring or filtered (not treated) water if available. 70 degrees is about perfect.

    I used to eat alfalfa sprouts a lot and all my sandwiches when I go to certain places to get sandwiches anyways because I have lupus I can no longer have alfalfa sprouts. I would definitely take a look into that if anybody has lupus because I can't pronounce or spell the word that activates inflammation. With that said if I had any autoimmune disease I would not have alfalfa sprouts. But you are correct they are delicious and crunchy

    I like the glass jars and so do the sprouts!.. so we have never washed or sanitize our seeds..we just rinse and repeat.. I think also with the jar method and rinsing it doesnt give the bacteria enough time to take hold of there environment..of course I'm no scientist...lol ..also plastic has very micro holes that organism to live in..where glass is solid..(that's why oils and food smells stay in plastic not in glass) anyway..I'm sure it's old news now..I want to try sprouting raspberry and BlackBerry seeds..because they are packed but we cant digest them..and powdering them gets old..lol maybe it will taste like raspberries or snozberrys taste like snozberrys bahh!.. willy wonica...anyway love you guys/and doggies ,chickens, bees ,and any other critters that get to be filmed

    You cook rice best using rice cooker for better results. ..let cool then mixed with the sprouts, fried fish fillet broken into tiny pieces ,or smoke haddock or cod, or salmon, add julienne cucumber, greens herbs like basil lemon grass finely chopped, mint, Vietnamese mint, raw onion, etc
    fresh red chillies puree or finely chopped ones and one pureed garlic and ginger paste 1tabspn..mix well... =:
    Sauce: ingredients to blend: Take five or six spicyred chillies mixed with any white fish fillet fried or. salted white fish fillet fried..half of the fish should be enough. Removed bones. Then add one onion and three garlics. Add vinegar half a cup and half of mug of water.. pinch of sugar to balance. Treat the chilli sauce as condiments.

      Hi Charles, we tend to eat them up by a week's end (my guess is they may last up to two weeks), I think that's key to getting the most nutrients from them. We typically store in a tupperware in the fridge, they are in our makeshift fridge ice chest now :)

    People who raise poultry sprout their chicken feed to save 25% but they only sprout for 2 days.
    People who soak seeds before planting sometimes add minerals for best results.
    I have heard that the seeds that float to the top are dead so they are not worth planting.
    Still in planning stages to get a garden and a greenhouse going.
