- Singapore first Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew delivered an half hour speech on Legacies Leadership in Hong Kong on 30 March 2005, 10 years ago. In remembrance of a great leader !
I’m listening to him now in 2021 and his speech is still inspiring, relevant and informative!
Am still listening nw in 2023.😅 truly inspiring.

He didnt just give speeches. He went to the bottom of the problems first hand and not afraid to face the outcome good or bad. He was the man we didn’t mind having faith in. We knew he would deliver

lim eddie , me too! Had been reading his speeches whenever I could get them in those non internet days. Trouble was he spoke without scripts! He’s the only one leader that could do that. 😱. Ever! 🥰

LKY will go down in history as one of the greatest leader/statesmen of the world.
This man has contributed to the rise of Singapore primarily but also to South East Asia in general and China!
A true sign of power & a leader from his tone of speech. I wonder who else in this world have witness all those times of ups & downs, combining all the knowledge and able to provide an insights view of what's happening around the world. Proud to be a Singaporean even though living aboard.

Thank you for sharing this video. Remarkable man of the 20th century, an inspiration to all other leaders in Asia. Mr Lee made a great contribution to the direction that China took under the time of Deng - a true win-win-win strategy stands for the test of time and history. The economic success of China and other ASEAN nations owes greatly to this man. Mr Lee is a man with a vision, not just for his people of Singapore, but also for that of his neighbouring nations, East Asia and beyond.
Yes. A lot of Chinese infrastructure, economic system, housing, political (PAP is very similar to CPC actually) are very much alike. LKY is a legend. Long live PAP and CPC.
I wish I could meet him once. Such a great and inspiring leader who articulates his ideas to promote the interest of the people and the best benefits of the country's prospects. 🇮🇳

The caliber of world leadership has declined so drastically and we are universally bereft of leaders of Lee Quan Yews caliber. Ones with steely determination and resolute commitment. Leaders that were not preoccupied by rank and privilege. Today’s leaders tend to be predicated towards speaking to racism, nativism and fear. Singapore, you ought to be proud of the leadership legacy that this great man has left you.

It is not the Land it is the People in the Land is the Land . Whenever he speaks u notice naturally he include his People. Leaders like him bring leaders in their beings n DNA to take up the trials of political esp if people on the ground harmless, serving ,giving n promote interest of People ,yet being sullied n humiliated. I salute him I saw his conviction.

Deng is a obvious choice with the hk people. if the speech was to make in US, it would be a different one. LKY knew many of the US leaders personally.

Hmm..with his wise foresight, predicted in this speech, 2005, that in 20+ years China will overtake Japan & America. Today, near the beginning of 2020, China in many ways did overtake both these countries. And that’s just under 20 yrs!

He "predicted" that in 20 or 30 years the PRC' s China would overtake Japan. This speech was in 2005 . The PRC overtook Japan in 2010 - just over 4 years from the date of the speech. Which shows that he was either a fool and could not draw a trend line or a liar . Take your pick. I pick liar as it appears he was trying to misguide the world and downplay just how much of a threat the PRC was . LKY betrayed the Western values that gave him a free Singapore and will be judged as a traitor to Western ideals if the PRC ever attacks the West. By pandering to the PRC he also betrayed HK and Taiwan who will soon be forceably "integrated". He joked about the PRC demanding to talk to about the anti secessionist bill from a position of power., power that they are now deploying against the HK people and will soon deploy against Taiwan , Japan, the Sth China seas and the region. It is just evident that LKY was a traitor to the free democracies and history will judge him so.
Western values did not “give” him Singapore 😂 he TOOK it for Singaporeans and MADE it for Singaporeans.
The “free” democracies of the world keep telling every other country that they should be just like them. That is not “free” that is bullying.

A dictator plunder n destroy the country but Mr. LKY built n developed a nation that is the Singapore today. Please be respectful of this great man even if he is no longer with us.
If he was a dictator, u would not see long queues of practically a whole nation of people waiting for 10 hours just to pay their last respect to this man. He was definitely a leader and a father of a nation.

they met before the guy was planning to attack Vietnam, Cambodia. And he did it, that was China-VietNam war 1978-1979. There are many reasons behinds are the war.

54 yrs ago we got 2.5 million citizens now 2019 we got over 5.64 million citizens.
Stop at 2 was a big mistake of LKY
Much as I do not like the policy on a personal level ( I had always thought that for a replacement level stop at 3 is safer), the decision was made correctly at that point in time. Singapore was newly independent at that time and the British decided to withdraw from Singapore ahead of the plans. Many Singaporeans were employed directly or indirectly by the British armed forces then. There were not enough schools, medical facilities, jobs etc. Slowing down population growth bought Singapore time to improve the situation/infrastructure. Singapore was poor once - we had to queue up during recess time in school for milk donated by the UN World Health Organisation, as many of us were found by the School Health Service to be malnourished. In hind sight with 20/20 vision we can call it a mistake. Who can foresee that the young of today will want to get married late , have babies etc
