When the 6's replacement comes, all the sadness would quickly go away. They're not going to throw away a GREAT car and leave us disappointed. That's not the Mazda way.
Long Live Mazda.
Remembers the Speed3 and Speed6
I get whatcha mean though. They're not doing that this time around. The have too much to lose for that
Lol, honda and toyota will put new bumpers on the old mazda 6 and call them accord and camery to have reliable midsize cars again.
Mazda has been coming out with amazing vehicles lately.
@@mikeschiavoni5973 🤣😅😅 I can definitely see that happening. They need all the help they can get with their designs.
Sure they do. Speed3, Speed6 gone, RX-7, RX-8 gone.
The fact that Mazda has changed their entire lineup to become a premium luxury company is mind blowing
Yet the 3 has no USB ports in the rear or power seats. Mazda is far from being a luxury company.

I will trade my Mazda6 in a heartbeat. Turbo is cool but inline 6 is better!
I will if it has a manual and RWD
It'll probably be electric.
@@jamiegarth3146 I wouldn't hold my breath for a manual. But it is definitely going to be rwd.
I just want Mazda to take over the world, right combo of luxury, sportiness, reliability in some seriously pretty cars.
They need to improve on material quality, especially seats and steering wheel. I've seen low milage vehicles with very very worn out seats, arm rest and steering wheel. Oh yes, and hopefully they increase the thickness of the pain, it's painful to see what happens to that beautiful red 😨

I have owned 3 Mazda 6 cars, 2.3L 3.7L 2.5L and loved them all. R.I.P
I am thinking Mazda will go up market performance and fitment for what ever coup or sedan they do next.
I had a 3 that got totaled almost six years ago and I miss it. I wanted a 6 nice cars
I owned a 6 and to this day, I still have love for those models. I'll be pouring one out today.
Inline six, rear wheel drive! Sweet🇺🇸
The world just needs an RX9. Everyone would be happier then - it would mean a do over of the golden age of Japanese sports cars (Z, Supra, RX). A man can dream.

Current Mazda 6 has been such an under-appreciated car. Over the past 9 years, it’s been a much more stylish car than either Camry or Accord; better driving dynamics; equal or better reliability. Yet it takes Mazda a full year to sell as many 6’s as Toyota sells Camry’s or Honda sells Accords in a month. Yes, Mazda is small, but their US marketing is inept, and their dealer network is riddled with sub-par outlets.
I disagree. I drove a few Mazda 6's (most recently the 2016), and while definitely stylish, comfortable, and a decent performer, it does not come anywhere close to the 2021 Accord 2.0t that I currently drive. The Accord is WAY faster with a 10 speed automatic turbo engine (0-60 in 6 seconds or less), more standard safety features, and style wise this accord is way better looking IMO. Also reliability is off the charts. But I do agree that the Mazda 6 should've been a beast in sales with the way it looks alone, in reality, it is not as good as the Accord (or even the Altima).
@@BradGold : Putting aside comparing a 2016 model of a car that has seen continuous updates since then to a 2021 model is a bit silly, the turbo Mazda 6 has an identical 0-60 time as your Accord; the NA version is one second slower - but nobody buys a family sedan for its 0-60 time. That’s an absurd metric. Mazda ranks even with Toyota/ Lexus in reliability, ahead of Honda. Interior style and ergonomics of the 6 is in a different league from the Accord, more in line with Audi, Volvo, and other premium brands. Ride and handling, the 6 bests the Accord. Styling - the Accord is boring at best; downright ugly from some angles. But you lose all credibility throwing in the Altima! A car so bad, people turn it down at the rental counter.
@@youcanrunnaked sorry bud I'm going on my personal preference and how the driving experience had been for me. Like I said I really liked the Mazda, and my wife even had the 3, but there's a reason it's not selling and the Accord has been a top selling car for decades. Fact
@@BradGold : You confuse “best-selling” with “best.” The two are not the same. In some cases, they’re not even close.
@@youcanrunnaked sorry but I completely disagree.
Mazda is just an amazing company now. The cars look, feel, and drive premium without paying the premium price.
My worry is that they'll soon adopt a premium price. And it saddens me that people can be fooled by a bit of tinsel and design magic to overpay by 10k or even 20k. What I want is an affordable inline 6 or diesel RWD car with manual. Is that so much to ask?
@@andretsang7337 that's exactly what's going to happen.

I hope is just a mater of name changing. Maybe they will keep the design but with a different name.
I would love a RWD, Inline-6, sedan from Mazda. It sounds like a good alternative to a G80 or BMW 540
This Mazda look like it's gonna dog walk most BMW & Genesis Vehicles especially in Looks interior/exterior
Got a 2018 signature when the last redesign first came out for about 2 going on 3 years now.... it is mind blowing for me to know that the car did not sell that well... such an amazing car and experience I've been having.
Mazda’s future sounds exciting!
Upscale Mazda all day long instead for genesis
Hopefully Mazda will release a production version of the Vision Coupe concept as it looks very promising. It deserves a new name to go with the brand's intended direction upmarket. My guess it may be called Mazda 9, MX-9 or they'll resurrect some old names 626, 929, or Millenia. Mazda's luxury brand, Amati, that never saw light of day, at least here in the US, may even be apart of the new Mazda lineup. I knew something was about to happen when the 2021 Mazda 6 didn't receive the new Mazda Connect system as the CX-5 and CX-9 did for 2021. Sad to see it go, I had 3 of them over the years.
Mazda doesn’t want to go backwards. Hopefully they will not call it a Mazda Mazda 6 anymore. The same with the 3, absolutely stupid
was mazdas luxury brand not eunos? the JDM miata roadster and the cosmo were sold under the eunos brand in japan
I had to scroll way too far down to find this comment. Mazda 9 for sure. Bringing back the 929 which NEVER became a FWD platform when the 626 and 323 did makes the most sense to Mazda; who do not shy away from honoring their history. Corksport for life, baby.

I’d take a premium Mazda before a genesis!
I want some hope.
Reminds me of my old 929 except in couple form. A hybrid rotary would be the best but that's a pipe dream, a Skyactiv 6 would be pretty awesome!
I've owned 2 Mazda 6. My first a 03 6s sedan that was stolen and totaled and my second an 07 6i 5-door to replace it. I loved my 6i and traded in for a new 2019 CX-5 Signature. The first generation 6 was a great car. Mine was built in Flat Rock, MI and Ford used it as the base for the original Fusion and several other models. However I think Ford screwed Mazda up with the 2nd generation USA model making it different from the Japanese and European car. The third generation is a great car but we don't get AWD and the wagon here. The USA market always gets screwed and left out of getting the best cars. I hope Mazda creates a new RWD/AWD inline 6 cylinder model 6 and brings it here.
No wagon or AWD did suck for this six BUT we still get the turbo which in unavailable in most of EU
Hi, Kirk: Totally awesome video again- super informative! I NEED to pick your brain, along with your subscribers! I just bought a 2018 Soul Red Metallic Crystal Mazda 6 a month ago for $22,000. I love it- it's gorgeous! It has only 20,000 miles on it. HOWEVER:
1) now that the MAZDA 6 is being discontinued, will its value decline greatly?
2) should I sell it, trade it in for a late model Mazda 3? How bad will it decline if I wait five years?
I am retiring next month and will only put about 7,000 miles on the Mazda 6 each year. I was planning to keep it for about 5 years-- and buy another Certified Pre-Owned Mazda. Should I keep the Mazda 6 until the new inline 6 version (or whatever) comes out?
I suppose that if I keep the Mazda 6 for 5 years or more that I won't run into any problems with service, parts!
Thanks in advance everyone for your thoughts!!!
I'd hang on to it as log as you can 🙂 it's a great car.
You have absolutely nothing to worry about, the value won’t increase nor decrease! And for as service and parts, that’ll be available for a lifetime
Thanks, everyone!!!
I'm 2017, 28,000 miles. Was wondering the same, but I'm keeping it now. Had a feeling something good was around the corner
Bring back the Millenia Name. Hopefully it will be a full size sedan.
Hear, Hear. It was such a raging sales success in the past. :(
929 would also work but def Millenia ! Helps break up the alphanumeric names in the lineup !
@@ascott2168 Reviving either the "Millenia" or the "929" moniker would be roughly equivalent to a cruise ship dubbed the Titanic. Neither name is something that Mazda wants to recall.
I was thinking just 9.
@@stephenhendricks103 the last of the 929's was a flop. the biggest mistake was targetting BMW,Mercedes and Audi with it along with the Eunos 800 at the same dealerships.I recall 25 years ago coming this close to getting my parents into the Eunos 800 when they could not get their E230 MB and in hindsight I wish I had.we bought a C200 instead and it was one of the ugliest things of all time.I saw it a few days before delivery and thought to myself this is an incentive to get my permit to drive but for what it was worth with the baby Benz it looked for all the world like one of those Japanese small sedans front side and rear.

One thing I love about Mazda is that they always make Torquey engines, and torque's where's the fun at at!
Driving a 2004 Mazda 6 V6 and cross my fingers still chugging along just fine with “light” maintenance.
I mean I change the Leak Detection Pump and that was an SOB. Redid the headliner myself. Clutch replaced around 130k starting to slip.
Replaced a fan control module not too bad. GET OEM. The Ford engine weeps a bit but only goes through one qt of oil per 5k change interval at this time. Motor mounts and suspension still good at 185k. Original radiator leaked early on but was replaced. Water pump tension pulley froze up so I replaced that and the belt. Replaced the pulleys on the drive belt side as I figured they were worn too which they were. Recently replaced the water pump just in case but no failure. Recently started to lose the smallest amount of coolant but I think I detected the source coming from the bottom of the new water pump from Gates. I cleaned it off and I’ll check again next oil change.
Inline 6 & RWD is a perfect combination.Mazda & their reliability is moving up.Good for them.
I’d like to see Mazda use that platform and i6 powertrain for a new CX-5 (CX-50?). Also, bring the BT-50 to the US, please and thank you!

The CX-9 will be adopting the new inline-6 RWD platform (most will be AWD variant). This new large platform is intended for the CX-9 more than any other model.
I drive a mazda 6 ts2 and I love it. Its comfortable, easy on diesel and looks great. Only issue I've had was egr and dpf but that was an easy fix!
Been waiting to retire my 2010 Civic for this new Mazda6 for close to 2 years now! Is that the light at the end of the tunnel??
Just nabbed me a new 2021 M6 Turbo for a sweet deal. The dealer couldn't get that thing off the lot soon enough. I'm lovin' it.
You can all have your crossover SUV's.
I wanted a Mazda 6 Touring and been pricing for over a year now. Should I not buy now since it's being discontinued??
Mazdas development of the SkyActiv Technology proves that there are years of potential innovation left on the combustion engine. They don't seem to be in any rush to electrify their vehicles like Toyota and Honda.
I'm not surprised by this news, I saw the current third generation going away for a little bit before the new forth generation drops. In addition to what I just said, I was on a Mazda dedicated page on reddit not too long ago and I guess the owner of the page who works for a Mazda dealership was saying that the Mazda 6 was going away, and that the new version is indeed in development and is coming to market soon, before he ended his statement he stated that the car is not going to be called Mazda 6 but something else.
The Mazda 6 is sold in Sedan and Wagon with the 2.5 Skyactiv G in turbo or normally aspirated forms in Australia.

Manual turbo six rwd?? Where do I sign??
I've owned two mazda3's with manuals and two mazda6's with automatics. Was bummed when they made manuals only for the top line 3's and eliminated them from the 6's. Would have loved a mazda6 turbo wagon with a manual, would have been awesome.
I bought the new 2003 Mazda6 when it was first available locally. It was my 2nd Mazda. Even then it was a fun car to drive. Glad to see rwd and an inline 6 coming. I'm partial to 6cyl power, I had 4 Grand Cherokees with 4.0. Imagine all that torque in a Mazda! Zoom zoom... Mazda news excites me, especially living in Alabama about 90 miles from the new Mazda Toyota plant.
I have to admit, a piece of my soul just broke on reading this. Then I re-read Mazda's memo and realized that it only seems to make reference to 2022. It doesn't say never again, doesn't say anything about a corporate shift in focus from sedan to suvs. I love the current 6 but am holding out hope for the re-make to resemble the images online with the entirely new sheet metal. The current MY has lines which resemble my Jag XF, very feline and aggressive stance. Now I'm left wondering when my lease is up in a few months, should I try to find a 2 year lease on a current 2021 or left over 2020 Mazda 6? Do those exist? Are exterior differences between 2020 and 2021 obvious? I'm wanting to not be driving a new car that in a year will look outdated due to a complete remodel because Mazda decided to suddenly bring the 6 back in 2023 or worse yet, suspended it entirely. I guess no one knows the future, right? Suggestions, guys? Thanks!

I wonder will the Mazda6 replacement try to source its automatic transmission from Toyota (through its Aisin parts division)? That could make it possible for this car to use an eight-speed automatic, which would help with fuel economy.
I currently own the 2018 Mazda 6 2.5T and I love it! Hopefully whatever they come out with next is better than the 6
I hope they badge it as an MX-6!! They trademarked it back in 2018 about the same time the inline 6 was talked about.
It’s interesting how Mazda has always been kinda between regular to luxury car but then Hyundai within a couple years was able to make a brand new very successful luxury car/brand

Hyundai has been doing heavy machinery for a long time. Lots of money. Mystery solved.
Genesis is not a couple years old. As someone who has owned mazdas for 11 years, there isn't much of a reason to purchase a mazda 6 as of 2021, the mazda 3 was almost the exact same car, same styling but slightly smaller, same features added, except no ventilated seats, and overall the 3 is better on gas mileage due to it weighting less. Don't get me wrong I love the mazda 6 I currently own a 2018 mazda 6 gtr, but I can't deny the mazda 3 took its place. I'd love to see a full redesign of a new sedan that offers not just premium features but luxury features as well with more power. I would love for them to make a "mazda 9" as a luxury or sports sedan, I'm not into the whole suv craze I think it will run its course and I'm sure since gas prices skyrocketed people who wanted an suv and got them are regretting it, and are looking into a sedan, coupe, hybrid, or electric vehicle to replace it once it's paid off.
I have a 2009 Mazda 6 loaded, with black leather seats, sunroof and Bose speaker system. I love my car and how smooth and quiet it drives at only 55,000 original miles on it. Never been in an accident, nothing just plain enjoyment when I drive it. It saddens me that the 6 will be discontinued.

We have a Mazda 6 2009 v6 with 300,000 miles we have never done anything to but change oil .It’s been the most reliable car I have ever owned.
man, we've had two Mazda 6's and love them but they do need a refresh/redesign. I'm currently looking for something more upmarket but if Mazda is moving up market that could be the ticket.
Bummer! I was waiting to see the rumored Mazda 6 2022 redesign to potentially upgrade from my 2009 Mazda 6. What I don't like about the current model is that it looks too much like the Mazda 3, I always have a hard time telling both apart, I suspect that might be one of the reasons why the sales declined so much (this and people moving to SUVs). It's like they raised the bar so high with the Mazda 3 but kept the Mazda 6 at the same level, so now it's kinda just a slightly better Mazda 3. I was hoping for a newer model that would more set both apart. Now yeah they might go more luxury, however that means it will probably be more expensive and it might be out of my budget... We'll see. Still love my 2009 Mazda 6, fun to drive, comfortable seats, nice legroom, huge trunk, and a perfect mix between sporty and classy design.
They could bring back the “RX” moniker for RWD given the implementation of the “CX” series for crossovers. Food for thought.
I don't think mazda would muddy their naming scheme like that as RX was originally only for rotaries.
@@gautamchas2494 the whole numbering scheme is a bit muddled.off topic a little how many of us remembered before the 323 and now the 3 the old system which we had 808's and 1300's then that all changed allowing for the fact the new small car would be the first not to have a rotary not even as an option.
I have a 2015 Mazda 6 Touring with the solo 2.5 skyactive tech. When I first heard that the Mazda 6 was going to be discontinued My mouth dropped and I prayed for a miracle 🙏 that all was not lost ( My previous car was a 2003 Mazda 6 with a 2.3 4 and A 5 speed manual) Then... I began to hear rumors about a possible new car in the works after 2022 WITH AN INLINE 6 AND RWD plus even more sexer styling and power !!! . PLEASE MAZDA .... BUILD THIS CAR!!!!... Please!!!!
When they removed the manual transmission option, those wanting a larger family sedan with a stick, were left to go to VW or Honda. They lost their enthusiast Mazda 6 base. At least the Hondas are mostly reliable, as for VW, well..
And the manual is available in other markets if I’m right, so it was kind of foolish of them to discontinue it for North America.
Stop being so thick headed. Manuals are a thing of the past. Auto manufacturers don't manufacturer and sell cars to just loyalists they sell to the masses. Financially it is not worth their time or effort to sell at best a couple hundred vehicles a year to said loyalists. Even Honda has ditched the manual in the Accord.
@@mpg65 Can you drive manual? It’s important to keep the manual transmission in vehicles aside from SUV’s and trucks because most enthusiasts will be buying sedans/hatchbacks and sports cars. If they don’t have a manual option, a lot of the auto journalists will like the car a lot less and therefore make it seem more disappointing. Mazda has also basically perfected the RWD manual transmission so this would be an amazing car to have it in. I’m only buying it if there’s a manual option, if not I’ll look elsewhere. I would rather buy a Hyundai in manual than a Mazda in auto and that’s saying a lot.
@@jamiegarth3146 manuals are useless these days. The reason manufacturers are moving away from manuals is too few buyers. The other reason they are moving away is to meet mileage standards placed upon them. I learned to drive on a manual. My 1st through 7th owned cars were all manuals. My latest 3GT is an automatic and I miss nothing about the manual as I get the same amount of enjoyment in sport mode using the paddle shifters.
Im sorry for my poor english.. so mazda 6 will come out using Toyota's Hybrid in 2022?
I'm waiting so badly for that Mazda vision coupe based with RWD and that crispy 3.0 SkyG i 6 turbo
I just bought a 2021 Mazda 6 Touring
Beautiful pearl white and black leatherette inside.
Downside? I paid full sticker price :(
They wouldn't budge!
Congratulations! It's because they, like all manufacturers are short on inventory. They can't sell volume, so they make as much money on the front end of the car deal.
I owned a RX7 that was fun. I still drive my 2007 Mazda 6, it`s a lovely low maintenence car and enjoy the manual transmission. Lots of these cars are still on the road.
As an European, when I look at that chart and what European automakers' orientation, there is no motors for us and I own a CX-30 Skyactiv-X. We need a hybrid, European standard. The Peugeot 3008 SUV has become a reference, it's not the only one, but if Mazda has nothing to compete with it, the European market will be like hell for them. My hope is a PHEV with a 2L engine G or better X (Bigger engine won't do here). The NX-30 is a joke so far.
Mazda technician here The new crossover is a new hybrid, its gonna be the called the mx30 in 2022 from the mazda experimental division. As far as what the 6 will become is not disclosed to us yet.
Kirk...my concern is that Mazda wants to go upscale. With that being said this could also mean that MSRP will be much higher than the reasonably priced vehicles they offer these days. I hope the CX-5 will remain in production. I know that the potential CX-50 will be sooo much more expensive than the CX-5. If Mazda is smart (and they are) they should tool only some of their vehicles to compete with the likes of the BMW X1. Please keep the front wheel drive vehicles for those of us that do not have cash cows in their pocket. Toyota is still an option for me as their reliability is the best....
