BEWARE THE DARKNESS. Asmodeus of the Book of Tobit (also known as Tobi) is the mostly unseen, malevolent force that has terrorized audiences in the Paranormal Activity franchise, a demon whose presence has haunted homes and shattered lives with unseen horrors. Unlike the physical manifestations of other horror villains, Asmodeus’s terror lies in his invisibility, leaving a trail of fear and devastation as he remains out of sight but never out of mind.
In this video, I'll be delving into the DARK and TERRIFYING timeline of Asmodeus, from his backstory in ancient the ancient religions of Zoroastrianism and the Christian book of Tobit, to his sinister haunting in the first Paranormal Activity film to his horrifying influence throughout the sequels and prequels.
I'll also fill in the missing gaps in the Paranormal Activity timeline, explore Asmodeus’s motivations, his connection to the coven of witches and their opponents, and presenting a few theories of my own to solve the mysteries that exist in the shadows of this franchise.
Strap in as I dissect every eerie sound, every chilling encounter, and every moment of pure terror-preparing you for the ultimate analysis of Asmodeus's horrifying legacy!

We used to live in a time when paranormal activity was actually scary
The first one was pretty scary
Yeah.
was never scary 😂
It got silly later on. First and second was scary for me😅 and also the repeat of found footage style, made it boring.
Im still scared of it 😭
Points to the babysitter from Paranormal 3, a character who left and never fucking once looked back. Good job that girl.
"oh what's that? There's some demonic shit going on in my house? Let me fucking capture it via a camera and endanger me, my wife and everyone around me while I do extensive research on demonology and religion - just to do absolutely EVERYTHING they tell me not to do!"
This fact has ALWAYS driven me insane. Let's put the fact aside that he's putting his wife in danger - I researched religion, demons and witches because I found them to be very interesting. After a week of research I knew well that I shouldn't fuck with ouija boards and NOT do stuff that might further keep the demon here. Ffs Micah, read a fucking book!
Yeah like the psychic in the first movie after he showed up the second time. “Oh man, the demon is mad, you’re screwed, I got to go.”
If I learned anything from The Office, it's that you NEVER trust anyone named Toby.
Smile if you love men's prostates!

I can tell you what went wrong in Ghost dimension. The family didn’t burn the sheet they captured Tobi in. The priest made it clear they not only need to capture the demon but also burn it. So the ritual wasn’t completed
UA-cam channel’s Foundflix did an ending explain on the Paranormal Activity franchise with all but next of kin in one video (next of kin wasn’t released yet so that ended up being in a separate video) and they brought up what the priest said had to be done in the ritual prior to it, but he was killed during the ritual and the family apparently forgot about the burning part.
I think some might have not noticed it because there was a light show when Tobi jumped into the circle with green flames. But if you looked back on it the priest never said Tobi have to go up on flames himself during the ritual for it to work. Just that Tobi has to be captured and burn. Plus, and I might be wrong on this, there was no signs of anything being burn after the ritual. No matter how something is burned there would be scorch marks or something to indicate something was burned. Especially from something as impured as a demon
It actually reminded me of the Bell Witch story about how the Bells tried to capture the witch the blanket and throw it into the fire but it backfired (bad pun intended).
@@JustTanya. yeah but I’m pretty sure in Ghost Dimension’s case the ritual was incomplete since the priest said so himself Tobi has to be captured and burned for the ritual to be a success. He just wasn’t specific on the burning part leaving the family unaware Tobi would produce his own flaming light show without being burned during the ritual. Although that should have been obvious to the family already since from their own research they know every place Tobi was associated too was eventually burned down. Obviously you cannot trust the flames produce by Tobi to complete the ritual
@@ashleighstratmann7783 Yeah, it was the same in with the Bell Witch. They were informed that they needed to capture the witch in a blanket and throw her into the fire. They tried to wrestle her in but she got free and ended up, pretty much torturing John Bell until he died. I think that case was the first documented death caused by an entity. The whole case is crazy since the haunting happened to many of the Bell family long after John Bell's death. Plus, the Bell Witch is a supposed "true story" as opposed to PA which isn't. But I am wondering if that's where they got the idea from in trying to trap and burn Tobi. 🤔At any rate, neither traps worked. 🤷🏻♀
Let’s face it. By the end of the first Paranormal Activity movie we all wanted Micah to die for making everything worse. I mean the guy burned a cross Katie was holding despite just earlier in the movie doing research on demons and should have known religious symbols like crosses keeps demons away
Plus let’s face it, it most likely Micah’s and probably Kristie’s husband’s fault for Tobi speeding up the possession of Katie and Kristie after they received their bites instead of a slow possession as shown with Jessie in the Mark Ones.
Desperate just earlier in the movie 🎥 doing research on demons and should have known religious symbols like crosses keeps demons away. For real life.
Bestes instead of a slow possession as shown with Jessie in the Mark ones . For real life.
@@tayloranderson7547 why do you think the nanny was burning sage in Paranormal Activity 2. In Native American culture burning sage keeps bad spirits away and it must held truth to those of us who believed in the paranormal because now it’s part of many cleansing techniques to try and keep spirits away. That’s why I edited to add religious items like the cross.
I seen a lot of shows with interviews of those that experience like the Haunting (which by the way were more entertaining than most of the early stunts Tobi pulled in each of the paranormal activity movies before he decides to amped it up).
The main key is the belief of a higher being to protect you from demons and evil spirits. Religious item is just an item without the belief of what it represents. That’s what truly keeps demons and spirits away. But even then it sometimes takes something like an exorcism to do the trick. After all as the lesser key of Solomon shows, demons have a higher power too, and at the top of demon hierarchy of Hell is Lucifer himself.
@@tayloranderson7547 dude have you not seen the mark ones. Jessie was bitten early in the movie and yet he wasn’t fully possess until later in the movie. Kristie and Katie’s possession didn’t take half that long after they were bitten even if you combine the. Times they were bitten to when Tobi possessed them

“Falls and dies Gibby style” almost sent me into a cackle fit at work but I had to stop myself.
Had me guffaw at that 😂😂😂
As a note, that embroidered 'Ouija board' that you mentioned on the wall in the Amish house is not that. It's something called a sampler, something people embroider in order to learn the steps, usually how to do letters so they can embroider messages on items. They're actually pretty common antiques. And even today people make them. It's not a Ouija board, just something perfectly normal and old-fashioned. It's also used as a "sample" of needlepoint skills to display for possible husbands/in-laws in order to prove they're competent at what was once considered a basic skill.
we need more of these Ars Goetia demons in horror movies. Malphus in annabelle, Valak in The Nun/The Conjuring, Paimon in Hereditary, and Asmodeus in Paranormal Activity.

I guess Zach can manage to make Paranormal activity interesting. Honestly, Tobi/Asmodeus’s plan of child grooming and relying on kids to convince the family to move in with their grandma, or whatever that prequel was going on about, isn’t that great. Grooming is scary but clearly it wasn’t effective. But I’m sure this channel can pull it off.
To be fair, when the plan of having the groomed child convince mom to go to grandma's didn't work on mom, he then wrecked their house right in front of her. Which made her change her mind, real quick.

@@Moondust_Maedae yeah I wish they did a season where all the champions actually compete against each other to see who was the best artist of all champions. Not just the all star seasons they had. And not like season 9 where three champions mentored 5 contestants each at the start. Although I like season 9 that really didn’t prove who was the best champion of the three as make up artist. Especially since Anthony who was eliminated during the season after all his contestants were eliminated already had a student who won a previous season: Dina.
I know because Dina is one of my favorite face off champions thanks to that AWESOME giant female Mantis costume she single handedly pulled off making in the time frame she was given
Sad to say the season Dina won was also the same season with my least favorite costume was made: the one with Athena turned to stone by Medusa’s head which somehow can still control her. That made absolutely no sense in terms of Greek Mythology. It was not made by Dina, but by another talented artist Sasha.
I still wish Sasha went with Artemis instead since she wasn’t selected. Not only that be easy (like you would think Athena would be) but the required props (that I won’t go into detail so this reply wouldn’t be removed) would be a lot easier to choose from for the makeup as Artemis is the goddess of the Hunt.
Or at least put Medusa’s head on that shield prop use to represent Athena to replicate her shield Aegis, don’t turn her into a statue and add some scrolls or parchment for the model to hold in the other hand to show off Athena’s wise side as it shouldn’t take too long to put together a scroll or parchment
Sounds like the Zelda Time Line. One where Tobi fails and one where Tobi succeeds.
I have been waiting for this one!! PA was one of my faves back in the day! You rock CZ!
I’m legitimately impressed at the dots you’ve connected. I guarantee that you put way more thought into this than anyone working on these movies.
In Ceremonial Magick, a magick system of which the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis, popularly mistranslated as "The Lesser Key of Solomon" (the meaning of the word "Lemegeton" is unknown so the English translation is incorrect or at least incomplete), is a part of, the triangle with a circle in the middle is actually called "The Magickal Triangle of Solomon" or just "The Magickal Triangle". It reads "Michael" (this being the name of the Malakh (in Christianity the Malakhim are separated into two groups and called "Archangels" and "Angels") Michael) in its interior and it is placed to the East (usually) of The Magickal Circle (the latter allegedly protects the Conjurer from the influences of the Dæmon that is being summoned). The Triangle also has the words "Tetragrammaton" (which is one of the names of God), "Primeumaton" (the meaning of the word is unknown or debated upon) and "Anaphaxeton" (the meaning of the word is unknown or debated upon).
Another important thing to note is that contrary to popular belief, the nobility titles of the Dæmons in the Ars Gœtia do not actually mean anything in terms of hierarchy. Asmodeus was not promoted from Prince to King, as Kings are not above Princes. The nobility titles are actually just keywords to help determine what celestial body rules that specific group of Dæmons, as approximately 90% of Ceremonial Magick is based on Astrology. Below is a list explaining what each nobility title actually means in the Ars Gœtia. Note that the use of the word "originally" in the list below is in reference to Pseudomonarchia Dæmonum, the source of inspiration for the Ars Gœtia, and other materials that served as a foundation for Ceremonial Magick in general, like Astrology and Alchemy.
- Kings (originally "Rex") are Dæmons ruled by the Sun (originally "Sol"). Their metal is gold and their color is gold (some translations and/or adaptations say "yellow").
- Princes, also known as Prelates (originally "Princeps"), are Dæmons ruled by Jupiter (originally "Iuppiter"). Their metal is tin and their color is blue.
- Dukes (originally "Dux") are Dæmons ruled by Venus. Their metal is copper and their color is green.
- Marquesses (originally "Marchio") ("Marquis" is in French) are Dæmons ruled by the Earth's Moon (originally "Luna"). Their metal is silver and their color is silver (some translations and/or adaptations say "purple").
- Counts (originally "Comes") ("Earl" is in British) are Dæmons ruled by Mars (some translations and/or adaptations say "Venus and Luna"). Their metal is iron (some translations and/or adaptations say "copper and silver") and their color is red.
- Barons, also known as Presidents (originally "Præses"), are Dæmons ruled by Mercury (originally "Mercurius"). Their metal is mercury (originally "quicksilver") and their color is orange.
- Knight (originally "Miles") is a Dæmon ruled by Saturn (originally "Saturnus"). His metal is lead and his color is black. In the Ars Gœtia, Furcas is the only Knight.
In summary, the 72 Dæmons of the Ars Gœtia are actually all equivalent in terms of hierarchy. However, they are under the rule of 4 so-called "Emperors". Each Emperor is assigned an element of the Zodiac and sometimes a point of the compass (although the points of the compass are assigned to different Dæmons in the second book of the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis, the Ars Theurgia). Each Emperor rules 18 out of the 72 Dæmons (9 by day and 9 by night each). There is a lot of debate on which Emperor belongs to which element of the Zodiac, but by reading the entries of some of the Dæmons it is relatively easy to pinpoint the element of the Zodiac assigned to each Emperor. Below is a list of each Emperor and their respective attributes.
- Gäap (the 33rd Dæmon of the Ars Gœtia is also called "Gäap", however, the grimoire treats both "Gäaps" as different Dæmons. Dæmons having equal or similar names in Ceremonial Magick is extremely common. Examples include Halphas/Malthus and Malphas, Aym and Amy, Vepar and Zepar, Furfur and Murmur, etcetera. To differentiate them, I call the 33rd Dæmon of the Ars Gœtia by one of his common aliases: "Täap", and reserve the name "Gäap" for the Emperor) is the Emperor of the element of Fire and his alleged point of the compass is the South.
- Ziminiar is the Emperor of the element of Earth and his alleged point of the compass is the North.
- Amaymon (who so happens to be the Emperor who rules Asmodeus) is the Emperor of the element of Air and his alleged point of the compass is the East.
- Corson is the Emperor of the element of the Water and his alleged point of the compass is the West.
I mentioned that the Ars Theurgia attributes different Dæmons to the points of the compass. In fact, it not only attributes 4 different Emperors to the points of the compass, but also 4 different Kings to the North, East, South and West under the rule of said Emperors as shown in the list below.
- Demoriel is the Emperor of the North.
- Carnesiel is the Emperor of the East.
- Caspiel is the Emperor of the South.
- Amenadiel is the Emperor of the West.
- Raysiel (not to be confused with the Malakh/Archangel Raziel) is the King of the North under Demoriel.
- Pamersiel is the King of the East under Carnesiel.
- Barmiel is the King of the South under Caspiel.
- Malgaras is the King of the West under Amenadiel
Finally, to answer the common question of who is the most high amongst the most low, or which Dæmon is above all other Dæmons with no Dæmon above himself, the answer is Lucifer according to the Grimorium Verum, also called "The Grand Grimoire" in some translations and/or adaptations. However, I do not believe that Lucifer needs introduction. His apparently only 2 mentions in the Ars Gœtia is in the entry for the 9th Dæmon, King Paimon (Paimon is said to be the most obedient Dæmon to Lucifer out of the 72), and the 68th Dæmon, King Belial (Belial is said to have been created by God right after Lucifer). The only grimoire in traditional Ceremonial Magick that puts Lucifer in 2nd place, is The Book of Oberon, which attributes the title of "Emperor of all Dæmons" to an entity named "Tantavalerion".
Do take everything that I said with a small grain of salt because Ceremonial Magick, Angelology, Dæmonology, Astrology and Alchemy are not exact sciences, obviously. They are occult sciences and there are many inconsistencies across grimoires. I have no idea if you are ever going to read this big comment (sorry for the amount of text), but if you do, I hope that it helps you in the future because I have seen you talk about "The Lesser Key of Solomon" a lot in your videos. Much love! ♥

I recently went to where it was filmed, and got to go inside the house, and take pictures with the clowns and meet the director (he’s really nice!) for their Halfway to Halloween event. it’s my favorite movie so it would be awesome to watch you do a horror history on it !
Great video! I love the series and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this video. You’re awesome 😈
I was such a big fan of these movies when I was younger. Thank you soo much for making this vid. Definately gonna dust off the bovie box and re-watch them after this vid
Shout-out to my hometown, Santa Rosa, CA! And, believe it or not, my nephew's name is also Hunter...
CZ, this video was an absolute nightmare to get through. The Ghost Dimension Camera just. Oh my god. No. Why. No. BUT. It must have been like 50 times worse for you. This is a fucking spaghettified mess. You're a hero.
That part about using the smoke of a burning fish to scare away the demon makes me think maybe my old boss was actually doing us a favor by microwaving fish in the break room.
ive been wanting this for SO long. you are the goat brother!
Great job, Zack! Not only in explaining this franchise, but also in explaining much of the lore of Asmadeus. And, as you know, there is an absolute f**k-ton (that's metric, I'm pretty sure 😏) of material to sift through when it comes to demonology; especially, concerning this particular demon.
I've long thought this franchise quickly spun out into the ridiculous. Though, I still say the first one is a pretty well done little horror movie. The simplicity of cinematography, the slow tension building, and the excellent sound design (multiple scenes gave me chills, all effective due to the sound). Good stuff!
Until next time, GO CUBS!!!
The first one wasn’t made for a sequel. And since the main character died, they largely ended up in a “prequel-trap” where they have to instead go further and further back. Seems they got out of it but it didn’t make sense. Happened to the Insidious Franchise too, but it’s my understanding they pulled it off better.
My only confusion with it is the symbol part - Everywhere I check As's symbol looks nothing like that - It's the Hermetic symbol that represents elements and unity.
@DoomBringerDANTE probably the production crew using some "creative freedoms"
Professor Emo Abraham Lincoln
I love your videos man.. you're literally the best 💗💗
I wanted to ask, when are you going to start exploring the Found Footage Horror Genre
Please make some videos on some of the best found footage horror movies
Which ones should I do in the future?
Whoa you replied ❤🎉
Umm
The Blair Witch Project
Grave Encounters (1st Part)
Gonjiam Haunted Asylum
The Borderlands/ The Final Prayer
The Possession of Michael King
and other best found footage horrors
I watched Gonjiam and i realised that I'm a sucker for Found Footage Horror
You know it’s a good day when CZ uploads a new video
1:16:04 i love the attention for detail, but i do believe thats just a normal cross-stitch practice exercise. Simple designs, a couple border options, the alphabet, it was a common thing to do when cross stitch was a skill girls were regularly taught
KoolaidMan - And a 'clever girl' could work *those* runic symbols into a pattern they're stitching, where only *the* most discerning eye might note their placement... 😏
New Subscriber! I love your deep dives! Thanks!
Welcome aboard!
Just got home from work, best way to relax :)
Just started following you CZ, big fan of horror, love your deep dives, horror histories.
There's nothing better than an extremely long video by ma boy CZsWorld! Damn finally something about Paranormal Activity, I really do appreciate you putting so much effort into creating these awesome videos
Dude, love your videos. I'm a horror fanatic and didn't know I needed this one
Say what you want but The Paranormal Activity movies are some of the best POV paranormal horror movies made to date. They way they all intertwined with each other and how the Ghost Dimension literally tied everything together. Chefs kiss.
Yeah the only other ones I can think of that weren’t total crap were Quarantine and that one Big Foot one the Blair witch people made… and I’ve seen a ton of 1st person pov movies. I really liked the first PA.
You should watch the Japanese found footage movie Noroi the Curse, one of my fav horror movies!
@@mommalion7028 - The movie is "Exists", and yes, it is very good.
Might we recommend "The Collingswood Story"...it's rather old, but the last 10 minutes *still* hold up as genuine 'creep-out'. 😨
One of the best things to come out of YT, i would say, are these horror movie recap channels. Always been fascinated by spooky things, but react too poorly to the movies themselves. Having guys like Zack of Mista GG drecap it, and then crack jokes and point plot holes, it's allowed me to experience the movies without losing sleep. Thanks Zack!
Good Work CZ! I thought "There must be one or two films I'd missed" but, sadly, no... I've watched this entire mess! Makes much more sense now though, might marathon it again if I ever suffer a traumatic brain injury. Thanks!
I love his videos. I'm watching Stranger Things now and soon I'll binge all his videos on Stranger Things. Also "Steve Harrington" Is best man ever.
I kind of love the idea of someone summoning Asmodeus for the sole purpose of learning advanced crochet techniques.
Side note, can confirm we have horrible demon prisons in the Buffalo area.
amazing video. I was listening to this in the background while I was doing some work but I just had to look over and see what was going on so often. You definitely made this really interesting and put so much work into this 🙏
Good stuff! I have always wondered what the history was. Fascinating. Thank you.
Your demon host asmodeus the embodiment of lust
Yeah watch the video lol
🎶GIMME A THRUST🎶
Hulluva boss>>>
@@glitchyfrog2417 🎶 show me some lust 🎶
I can hear this comment.
Any Hellava Boss fans just laughing because of the image of Asmodius they have in there head?...... just me?......ok
I’m picturing him too.
Excellent video! I respect the grind
I was raised on these movies the whole series has always been my main obsession and favorite movies of all time i got so happy when i saw you posted this
In the house of asmodeus
Yea buddy let’s go !
Great job! this was far more entertaining than the films themselves
Love your videos! Explains so much, I’m so satisfied after watching them. Thank you! ❤
My dumbass thought this was about the one from Helluva Boss
It literally says Paranormal Activity at the beginning on the title 😂😭
ME TOO
@@SjofnBM1989they literally called themselves dumb you don’t have to be rude 🤷♂️
Dumb on two fronts, considering the title explains it.
FINISH THE LYRICS Give me a thrust
Having just watched Helluva Boss, hearing this demon called Asmodeus was a wild moment lol.
I have to say respect to you for the work you put in.. thats was aaaa llooooottt of work 🎉
If we ever get another Paranormal Activity I want to see Tobi actually getting Air Yeeted by something stronger than him/it. Kind of like how HellHouse 3 ended with an Angel disguised as a man sent the demons back to hell, would love to see an Angelic figure end Tobi’s reign of terror.
Usually when I hear Asmodeus I think of Asmodeus from Helluva Boss
When i hear Asmodeus, I think of Supernatural. The guy who looks and sounds like a young demonic Colonel Sanders.
Am I the only one here who knows him from Helluva Boss
Just imagine; before I clicked on this video I only thought there was like 2 paranormal activity movies. I had absolutely no idea what in the world was going to happen next this entire video lol.
Watched this last night and thinking on it today it just blew my mind how well it was put together, CZ is the GOAT at what he does
🎵Asmodeus….. Satanas… Lucifer🎵
Anyone else immediately think of Ozzie?
thank you for making this. i gave up after the 4th so this really caught me up on what’s been happening since.
excellent work as always CZ as a horror fan finding your channel has been amazing keep up the good work
