I'm not a fan of these movies but OMFG I looooooove listening to people deconstruct the lore and storylines. Somebody give this man a damn Netflix series!
The idea of it was cool but the political ideals in it were dumb like how there are many racist Americans, guns are bad, lazy people aren't bad for the economy, etc
The Purge has always reminded me of a cross between Shirley Jackson’s horror story classic “The Lottery” (one day of “sanctioned” violence in a “civilized” society) and Escape from New York - the films actually have a very interesting concept - especially who has access to which weapons etc
And add the social experiment/awesome 70s tv movie called “The Wave” (based on a real experiment) in which a high school teacher turns his class into fervent, violent Nazis within two weeks. The students had argued that the German people were idiots for believing in Hitler’s propaganda. So the teacher approaches it as an experiment. Of course the teacher renames the stated goals of their group’s project but maintains the key ideals, such as the notion that the class of students is the most privileged group in the school, they have formal, elaborate social rituals that show “respect,” and they get all sorts of special favors while outsiders are just “lesser” and must be called out and humiliated for their inferiority,. The “humiliations” become horrible “punishments.” In spite of their initial belief that they would never have “fallen for” Nazi propaganda, the students lose their inhibitions and fall into it with stunning enthusiasm and even naïveté. The Purge universe is creepily intelligent and aware in its literary/pop culture/historical references…seriously, bravo Purge creators.
The Lottery stuck with me, man. My heart was beating fast the first time I read it years ago. Then a few more years later I found out another similar story, Those Who Walk Away from Omelas. About a city where a child was tortured every generation to keep the city in perfect condition.
@@ztk1138 Until the third Purge movie when government officials was allowed to be purged so the NFFA can get rid of their competition. Sure they can armor up their bases and homes, as shown in the first Purge movie showed (when it was thought the family in the movie didn't have enemies to fear from--not even their neighbors) all it takes is someone to slip up and let the wrong person in out of the kindness and selflessness or someone sneaking in before the purge starts to take a place thought to be safe down.
But how do you get your timing so perfect? You edit a commercial break right when the ads start and I love it. Too many creators end up with ads cutting in mid-sentence.
The biggest suspension of disbelief necessary for the Purge movies is believing that the entire population wouldn't immediately target every single politician in such numbers and forces that no amount of security could defend against.
The Purge reminds me of The Running Man by Richard Bachman (Stephen King's pseudonym). A society where the poor and disadvantaged at used as entertainment for the rich and powerful.
running man is a variation on purge Purge is we do this once a year, and we purge and then comeback next year running man is a every day situation , also running man seems to only purge victims that it deems as criminals... In a sense Running man . and the video game smash TV on Nintendo are bringing back Roman like Gladiatorial sports.. but its a choice future people can make... do we do a purge , or do we bring back gladiatorial sports ? in gladiatorial sports we can purge every day or perhaps every week on sunday.. any given sunday is gladitor games instead of NFL football but only those that our society deems as criminals and misfits and then purge them and the rest of society is safe.
Squid Game, Hunger games, even Transformers (in the novelizations, before the start of the war on Cybertron), show poor, sick, homeless and disatvantaged individuals being killed as entertainment for the amusement of the "higher class". Probably a common tv trope by now.
The more violence you do the easier and more addictive it is. Being in a society where it is common or actually encouraged (cartels, gangs, infantry etc.) it becomes a game and your go to answer. For alot of people it takes a while to reaclimate back to 'normal' life and some people never do
"The more violence you do the easier and more addictive it is." I might argue other wise. Since more people you inflict violence on want to revenge back, the incentive to commit violence decrease as it's not an optimum way to solve conflict.
The more violence you do and you get reward for it eventualy will be addictive. Well violence and addiction combine it is true can be very deadly and potent but it's come on a short end unless you have the manpower to encourage to even reward people for such action.
I love this franchise, there is a richness in the worldbuilding that elevated the first film above the standard home invasion horror films, and the fact that subsequent films explored things further to become societal and political satire is brilliant.
Man 48 minutes. Man how long did it take to film and edit this video? Did you stand up for so many hours? You put great effects and dedication making these videos. You go man 👍

I saw a bit of the NFFA parties when I saw the first episode of the Purge TV series. They use paper cut outs of faces of killers calling them the earliest Purgers before Purging was legal as if they were heroes. Not sure this was mentioned before but yes that study that they had Adams do actually had scientific evidence in the real world. I’m sorry I cannot sight the real study but it was found that repeated exposure to violence including imagery and sounds can cause the brain of some to actually crave more violence. A similar study conducted through anger management has found that acting out the emotion immediately caused people to have more violent responses. If the person is allowed to cool off or calm down, they were more likely to not have such adverse reactions. A common reaction was found in words: Allowing people to act violent when they are angry resulted in words like: kill, harm, hurt, etc But allowing them to calm down resulted in different words: Kiss instead of kill, happy in place of hurt or harm, etc.
33:39 yeah it’s true. They did a study where people were pissed off by someone. Then half of the people were allowed to take their anger out on objects like vases or computers. The other half didn’t have that option. The people that took their anger out were more aggressive afterwards than the people that didn’t take their anger out.

Pretty much.
Don't forget to bring home The Running Man Board Game!
running man is a variation on purge
Purge is we do this once a year, and we purge and then comeback next year
running man is a every day situation , also running man seems to only purge victims that it deems as criminals... In a sense Running man . and the video game smash TV on Nintendo are bringing back Roman like Gladiatorial sports..
but its a choice future people can make... do we do a purge , or do we bring back gladiatorial sports ?
in gladiatorial sports we can purge every day or perhaps every week on sunday.. any given sunday is gladitor games instead of NFL football
but only those that our society deems as criminals and misfits and then purge them and the rest of society is safe.
That makes me think of the game Madworld.
For alot of people it takes a while to reaclimate back to 'normal' life and some people never do
its one of those things were it can never be introduced even once because it would become very difficult to remove later
"The more violence you do the easier and more addictive it is." I might argue other wise. Since more people you inflict violence on want to revenge back, the incentive to commit violence decrease as it's not an optimum way to solve conflict.
@@VeryProPlayerYesSir1122 Naw, it's a self feeding machine. The option of having violence prevents violence, but acting on it encourages it.
I can disagree it’s boring after awhile.

A common reaction was found in words:
Allowing people to act violent when they are angry resulted in words like: kill, harm, hurt, etc
But allowing them to calm down resulted in different words:
Kiss instead of kill, happy in place of hurt or harm, etc.
I think I remember metal gear revengeance referencing them at some point to explain Raidens psychology.
33:39 yeah it’s true. They did a study where people were pissed off by someone. Then half of the people were allowed to take their anger out on objects like vases or computers. The other half didn’t have that option. The people that took their anger out were more aggressive afterwards than the people that didn’t take their anger out.

I think most Cdns would view it as crazy and would either offer people an escape route so they didn't have to participate or we would close the border so the crazy didn't escape across to us. Not sure which one we would do.
In the tv show they talked how everyone is doing business in the world while American has to lock down buildings and such and that they had to do everything online. I can pretty much see this type of bad mentality and downright mallicius social pressure in mobile games for years now and scum game companies are out for blood try to infect PC and console game industry just for a quick buck while taking away people's life over a damm video game that is meant for escapism.
It's 3:19am here and this video just gave me a reason to roll abother one and stay up XD Love you Emo Shaggy
Who else is looking forward to the final Purge movie that's supposed to come out this summer.
Yes I can't wait
I’m digging that tie! It took me a second to realize where it was from, I’m not a “Tie Guy” but I’d totally rock that one!
Yup the carpet at the overlook hotel
"The Purgiest Purge" lol. This is such a great piece of work you have done here. I love the Films, especially the second and third but I find something in all of them that is just great. I love your breakdown of the franchise and I really love seeing it through your eyes. I suspect in life we are on very different paths but I really enjoyed seeing a film series that has me thinking beyond the scenes deconstructed by someone with a different context they see the world by.
“Modern factions of the very worst groups in human history.”
I haven’t seen the newer Purge movies or the tv show, but it’s good to see the St. Louis Cardinals getting some work.
Or the "Sluggers" from "The Warriors."
Horror is my first love. Always so excited to see your videos. One of the best channels on UA-cam bro! Keep up the incredible work!
Haven’t seen it yet, obviously, but I know it’s about to SLAP
Almost as hard as the SLAP round that nearly killed Kentucky Ballistics
I was just gonna skip through this... ended up watching the whole thing. Great content
