    I'm really glad that the two of you see the inner workings of Marcus, as many just write him off as a dirt bag or whatever. He has taken up Grayson's mantle, but unlike her, Silco isn't willing to be on equal footing with him, like Vander and Grayson were

    • @Arkayjiya
      @Arkayjiya Рік тому +3

      He's a dirtbag. He's a fairly complex character too mind you, but he's still a complete dirtbag. He's had many chances to do the right thing, sure it would cost him his career at first and later on probably his freedom but he could have put a stop to Silco long ago if he was willing to fall for his own crimes. There was a window where Silco had no shimmer and his scientist was horribly burnt, that's the whole reason Silco didn't enact his plan to threaten Piltover with monsters (because by the time he got the shimmer production back on schedul, the upper city had taken another leap ahead with hextech). Hell Marcus couldn't even do the right thing with Vi. Imprisoning someone for life without a trial isn't "helping", it's appeasing his own conscience.
      He used Vi the same way he uses his daughter to justify his misdeeds. Silco's a big fish in a small pond. Marcus had the reach both with the council and with Silco to get him arrested and protect his child at the same time, hell he could easily make a deal with the council to completely ensure protection. But he doesn't because he's still a selfish piece of shit that can't get rid of his feeling of superiority toward the Undercity. Silco painted it perfectly. He thinks himself a martyr, a tragic hero, and the only way he can do that is because he still looks down on the undercity.
      Of all the people in this show that aren't dictators (cause it's hard to surpass the harm the council or someone like Mel's mom does), he's probably the most vile and loathsome.

      @@Arkayjiya Marcus is a tool of both the Council and later Silco, ironically because Silco is the embodiment of everything he claims to hate about the Undercity:Arrogance, disregard for law and order if it gets in the way of his personal opportunity and Zaun`s independence from Piltover, the Shimmer trade,vice etc. The main thing they have in common is they both care about their daughters and hate the other city yet are willing to exploit it to get ahead.

      @Arkayijiya another person that just acts like episode 2 doesn't exist. Marcus was ordered to make an arrest. Vi literally ends that episode about to turn herself in. He arrested her because that was his job. He hid her information so Silco wouldn't know she was alive. She very much was arrested for a crime. A crime we saw her commit. Why do so many people seem to forget this stuff?

    And so the most beloved ship in Runeterra sets its sails...❤
    The 3 hardest hits Vi takes in the probably best animated brawl I have ever seen are actually words: JINX (yes that rings some bells in her for sure), SHE WORKS FOR HIM and SHE IS LIKE HIS DAUGHTER. Each did more damage than the stab...
    "The council is corrupt"..The whole council? Well one member was just enjoying the music..😉
    And from here on there will be no more brakes in the emotional rollercoaster.
    God I love this show and great reactions as yours to revive it a little for us. THANKS.❤

    You definitively need to watch the mini-documentary "Bridge the Rift" after finishing Arcane. It is a 5 episodes mini-serie if I recall correctly that retraces the BTS of the show, it is super interesting to see the amount of work and dedication poured into Arcane !

    Most reactors just hate Marcus and see a corrupt cop. Few see that he is struggling trying to do the right thing, just that he is too weak of a character to fill Grayson's shoes.

    • @cormano64
      @cormano64 Рік тому

      Corrupt cops are some of the worst kinds of monsters, because they're criminals hiding behind the state power with which they should use to protect and serve the population.
      Asking for empathy for these types of pigs is a strong ask.

    • @christofme1436
      @christofme1436 Рік тому +7

      Agreed. In the beginning he seemed to be frustrated that Grayson's deal makes it impossible to get results although there was all the pressure from the council.
      Later he tried to imitate her, but Sisko is much to ambitious to be a real partner, so Marcus never had a chance.

    • @meadmaker4525
      @meadmaker4525 Рік тому +13

      Most people see Marcus as a corrupt cop because that's exactly what he is. He was not ever trying to do the right thing. He was an abusive, power hungry coward at the beginning, and nothing much changed toward the end of his life, except that he slowly started to realize what exactly he'd become. Just because he eventually had a family and didn't like being owned and manipulated by Silco doesn't mean he was ever a good person or trying to do the right thing.

    • @jonathanjohnson6727
      @jonathanjohnson6727 Рік тому +9

      @@meadmaker4525 well, he was on a power trip in the beginning. However that doesn't equate to power hungry; there's been no evidence Marcus wanted to usurp Grayson. Also if he's corrupt and gets called out relentlessly for it then so was she. Do y'all think Grayson told the Piltover Coucil about her 'agreement' with Vander? Nope. The only difference is the people making the deal, their characteristics, and the subsequent dynamic of power and respect.

    9:46 actually this is sometimes a form of therapy (not exclusively but together with other methodes). It´s called catharsis and aims at expressing out anger and other suppressed emotions in a not harmfull way. Only when you know it is there you can work with it. Jinx most of the time acts out of a traumatic response when she does violence so she can´t really fully aware feel where it comes from and get in touch with it.

    Zaun(The Undercity) is split into levels: The higher levels closer to Piltover or "Topside" have slightly higher wealth and more breathable air despite still being far poorer by comparison to the upper city. These are called the Promenade and Entresol levels. The Promenade level is controlled by the Chem-Barons(Zaun`s equivalent of politicians, scientists, drug kingpins and mob bosses put together). The Entresol level is where most of the black market trading of goods between Piltover, Ionia, Shurima, Valoran, Noxus and Zaun goes on as well as where most of the augments and fish markets are located. "The Lanes" are basically just trade routes along the river Pilt between the two cities so it`s not really a level as such so much as the general term for the land and waterways that are not quite part of either Piltover or Zaun officially yet but crosses into both.And last but not least, the Sumps level is the lowest, most inhospitable part of Zaun Vi, Powder, Mylo, Claggor, Deckard and his gang and Silco originate from.

    Another great episode. Love VI getting back to the Lanes and trying to find Powder. Very telling that even though Vi ditched Caitlyn at the top she was able to track Vi all the way down. Great tracking skills and the opening with Caitlyn and Grayson was some great little backstory as well. Mel making her move on Jayce, I don't think is necessarily more manipulation but maybe someone she sees a partner with, but Jayce is pretty malleable... Yeah, Marcus is very much under the boot of Silco. He's trapped. He might as well have pulled the pin but he has his daughter to think about. I loved the ending of the episode because of Silco's reaction. He obviously thought Vi was dead... Silco's talk was actually pretty dead on. Jinx does need to put the past behind her. What a great episode. Vi facing off with Sevika was great. There's a video that analyed the fight and it turns out it was pretty good.

And here we have Marcus forcing himself to find middle ground with someone hellbent in to destring piltover to minimise the amount of zaunites caught in the crossfire.
    Also our hero Vi returns to her "corrupted" and "distorted" home to find everyone that didn't stood up against Silco actually living better.... and her first action home is beat up and steal a couple that just flirted with her....

    What is corruption and what is good politics, and even more than that what is good citizenship? Going against a system that constitutionally disadvantages the people when systems of state are meant to empower the people is not corruption, in my opinion. People will, on a daily basis, challenge the constituted order of their society. This is very healthy and good social systems allow for this. Bad systems are fixed and do not allow for development, for many reasons such as fixed systems and ideas, being easier to work with and that people have limited intelligence, not stupid just a limit, and time to deal with their problems. Thus productivity become the measurement and justification for doing things to a fixed method. Even where that method steps on people, the mass gets something and a few at the bottom get left behind.
    The councillors see the over view of the numbers of people suffering and so, try to, if they have good intentions, make a system in which people can create their own quality of life through access to opportunity. However, the cops at the street level, and everyone else working directly with people in distress, see all the failures of these policies and all the suffering they cause. Even though the policies may be the best that could have been done in the time available and may help the majority of people to live good lives.
    People at the bottom of a society, like any other group of people, will always get their own local leaders and rules for managing their circumstances. Silco and his group are more of a 'keep the peace until ready for war' group than Zander and his followers. Silco lost his faith that co-existence is possible. Zander was hanging on to his faith through being a parent to Vi and Powder, realising that consequence of action could be worse than endurance.
    Jayce is trying to learn the politics 'trade' like he learnt his science but it is more amorphous than that. The ethics of a decision depends on so much information, which in politics is often kept secret, that it is so easy for a person to make the 'correct' decision based on their knowledge at the time of making it, that turns out to be completely wrong on review.
    Thanks for the reaction and discussion, I am really enjoying revisiting this show.
