To answer you’re a question on how similar arcane is to the video game they are in no way similar. Riot does provides a lot of lore for the characters and the places where they live, so a lot of things were already established. ✨
1 small detail missed - Notice the quantities of shimmer, as the scenes progress, gets higher and higher. They are starting to mass-produce, but why?...
most people think Vi walking away at the end was her leaving Powder but I firmly believe it was just her needing some space. She wasn't actually gonna abandon Powder, she just needed some time to process things
100% she just needed a moment to breathe and got taken as she was clearly about to go back to Powder. Extremely tragic and I'm sad if most people actually don't pick up on that.
She looked at her closed fist and her open palm, the closed fist is aggression and the palm is to hold. I think she realised what she did to powder was aggression and she was weighing up what it meant to hold on versus reject.
This is so true, I think she didn’t want to unleash anymore anger out on powder so she left her there instead to breathe a bit. I feel so bad for the both of them in different ways.
Never met anyone who thought Vi was actually leaving. Its super obvious that she realize this is all her fault, just like Vander told her, only this time she_literally_ has their blood on her hands. It would also make zero sense for her to walk 200 feet and than sit down. If she was so angry blaming Powder that she actually decided do leave her, she wouldve put as much distance as possible between them.
As a parent it drove me crazy the way some reactors tore into Powder at the end. I just watched as she realized the destruction she caused moments before being slapped. She's a child already with serious issues, but this broke her. Nice reaction.
I think most people aren’t equipped to handle a child with mental illness. But what some _are_ familiar with is getting physical to get discipline across; I know some reactors cheered when she got slapped. I think it says something about brute forced parenting that’s still subconsciously ingrained in many people because that’s how we were taught.
@@kageyama1083 many of them were in fact rooting for her up until the accident, they thought she'd be the one to save the day and then they pretend they always thought she was making a mistake
time and time again when mental health is portrayed in media, I'm somehow amazed how little empathy or understanding people have of it. And not only that, often outright distain towards the character or illness 😭
The girl that Voice Acted for Powder actually won a few solid awards for this episode. Even the other Voice Actors on the show were shocked at how well she did for that moment at the end.
@@omop413 If I recall correctly, this was both young Powder’s and older Jinx’s actresses first time voice acting. Most of the cast are longtime and primarily voice actors, but the two playing the lead character were new.
@@Davemented Agreed. It seems that a lot of people have a hard time with show-don't-tell shows/movies these days because they're not used to them, and it's a crying shame. I get the impression that the fact that so many people either look at their phones or do other things while 'watching' shows has led to the practice of spoon-feeding everything to the audience. Arcane is a series that you can't look away from if you want to follow what's happening, and I love that aspect. Like, yeah, they don't give you any explicit backstory/setting explanations in the first episode, but it's not too hard to suss out the important parts: there was a war/battle between the classes, the city is divided into the haves and have-nots, Vi and Powder are orphans whose parents died on that bridge, Vander took them in along with Mylo and Claggor, and the undercity is not a nice place to live to the point where even the air is foul/toxic. That's all you really need to know as far as the world setting goes to follow the story, which is ultimately a character-focused piece rather than a world-building piece. Honestly streaming has probably been the worst thing to happen to entertainment (yes, yes, old man shaking his fist at clouds moment here XD). The fact that we have endless entertainment at our fingertips has made viewing shows/movies something to do on the side instead of something you sit down and focus on. The modern world is so full of easy sources of dopamine that everything's getting dumbed-down in a desperate attempt to hold peoples' destroyed attention spans. I love so much about the conveniences and advancements of modern society, but I do think there are major problems it's creating that human minds aren't capable of handling. Technology is progressing far faster than our brains can evolve, so we're running around with brains that aren't equipped to handle endless supplies of dopamine. Aaaand I went off on a 'modern society' rant, lol. Eh, point remains that I agree with you about wishing there was more 'show don't tell' in movies and shows. Exposition dumps (especially clumsily executed ones) are one of my top pet peeves in media entertainment.
Except with Heimerdinger where they use tell-don't-show. The audience is told he's a great scientist but we never see him do any work. So when he judges Jayce and Viktor's work, he comes off as almost a fraud.
1:13:39 - Vi looking at her bloody hands after she hit Powder and remembering what Vander told her back in episode 1 reminded her that all this was also on her, not just Powder. Just like any teenager in that kind of crisis, she needed time to process herself so she left Powder, but Powder was an even younger child in the same (actually even worse) mental turmoil, and reacted as you would also expect a child experiencing abandonment would-by latching onto the first adult figure who reached out (at this point she had no idea Silco was behind all this). Both had their faults and reacted aptly, and I’m so thankful to you guys for not focusing the blame on just one of them. The writers are so brilliant, and they become even more so the deeper you get into analyzing the show and the characters.
I completely agree, Vi left because she realized she needed time to process. I also think she was running high on adrenaline from fighting, and she was in pain (mentally and physically - possible dislocation or break in her left arm). That's a lot for anyone to deal with let alone a teen.
thank you, seems like everyone forgets vi is a kid too...and she did something very mature for her age, she left to cool off rather than take her anger on on someone. even parents often don't do that
"It feels like artwork in motion." You've nailed it. Fortiche has such a unique animation style. Everything, including the animated characters were electronically painted. And they don't use motion capture. They use keyframe, which just creates a wonderfully unique look.
@@mustbethursday2549 The imagery of Heimerdinger's memories seem inspired by John Martin's "Destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum", "The Destruction Of Sodom And Gomorrah", "Joshua Commanding the Sun to Stand Still upon Gibeon" and "The Great Day of His Wrath". The art in the background of Vi's leaping scene is an almost direct copy of Alphonse Mucha's famous JOB cigarette poster. Some of the cloudscapes are reminiscent of John Constable. Piltover has an Art Deco aesthetic, while the undercity is Art Nouveau.
"We do NOT lose Vander!" and the scream afterwards is universal experience And Powder's voice actor in the end absolutely smashed it!! Her cries were absolutely heartbreaking
@@SamuelMaluco379 [Spoiler] but we even see Vander hanging at the ceiling in the last minute of the last episode. I dont think they would show that if they didnt want Warwick to appear. I would be sad if they didnt do it.
@@SamuelMaluco379 Riot also said Vi and Jinx aren't sisters, Cait and Vi aren't lesbians and a bunch of other stuff. they "Confirm" stuff all the time and if they don't do the Warwick thing, its a missed opportunity, has connections to Singed has a daughter and has a violent side and protective side it fits so well.
The conversation between Vander and Vi in episode 1, where he says "You know, but you don't know" and the whole "tell them to start a fire, they'll show up with gasoline" is one of my favourite conversations in the show.
the symbolism in the “cat and mouse” scene in the first episode is incredible. the cat is piltover, the mouse is the underground. it represents silco’s desire for them to overcome the oppression they faced from the city by any means necessary, “the base violence necessary for change”. silco is a beautifully written, complex, and believable character. there is really no other character like him
I also like how the writers had him be so good with Vi and so bad with Powder. He never actually says a word to her in the show. It's clear Vander cares deeply about her, but he isn't able to "get" Powder the way he does Vi. It adds a level of believability that is hard to make.
@@joshuafischer684 that's a cool detail as well. The biggest interaction he has with her that we see, is the start when he grabs them both, and the end of the second episode. Where he give her a juice or something
@@TimothyGodyes, his interactions with powder are subtle bc he doesn’t fully understand/connect with her, while he connects with vi on a personal level so their interactions are more meaningful
@@ranniwolves he tries, and obviously wants to, but like you said vi makes sense to him. They know how to write interactions, ones that feel organic and real
Diamond Dave saying they have a high bar to beat this episode is fun to hear. You have only just begun! This is one of the most perfect 9 episode seasons I've ever seen.
@@BaddMedicineArcane series Shurimans Port City [Kha'Zhun / Osha Va'Zaun] ==> Piltover and Zaun. Arcane season 2 will come maybe in 2024/25 and they allready started working on other series from other regions. May the force be with you. And may you lead the force. 🖐️
A lot of people miss in episode 1 but the reason why the kids couldn’t go and get back the bag with all the treasure it’s because The Undercity air is toxic, that’s why the Enforcers use the mask and the water from the river is very toxic too so that’s why they couldn’t go back and get it. Edit: 1:02:50 I’m glad Diamond Dave got it.
I mean even if that wasn't an issue... we don't know how deep the water is either. A normal person can't easily dive very deep, search for something on the bottom and then also drag that heavy thing up to the top. As a noob swimmer even just diving 4-5 meters is literal hell for me.
On the other hand, at some point Jinx does go back and get it because she uses the music box that was in that bag to hold the sparklers in the final scene
@@Jakokokoroko plus we see that there's massive creatures in the water in one shot (the lab), so they'd need gear to retrieve anything of value that falls into the water. it probably isn't impossible, but definitely way too difficult for kids to achieve on their own.
One of the biggest powers of Arcane is that it doesn' t narrate. Everything is show, don' t tell. None of the scenes are filler. Everything matters and none of the scenes can be cut. What I love is that even something Ekko said in episode 1 makes a comeback in episode 9 in such a way that it doesn't matter if you missed it but it just makes the scene that much better if you remember. They did such an amazing job with the writing (AND animation, music, voice-acting, pacing, designs and literally everything else!). It's no wonder they won so many awards. Fully deserved. And ofcourse, as a league of legends player, all the easter eggs are so fun and getting to know your favorite champions better is amazing (knowing the game lore didn't even spoil too much)!
I must say to Oak, he talks about the art style the most, that this show had a chokehold on all the artists. We literally analyzed every frame of the show, so many people have tried to learn the art style, because of this and personally when I watched it- I love the show, but sometimes when you pause or comes up the moment of the frame is that nothing is happening I was thinking that is literally painted on. I was getting so frustrated (not like hateful) because non-stop I thought that was painted, and then it moved, that moment I remembered this is f****** 3D. It's still amazes us and me how good this looks, because as I said it’s literally piece of art it's concept art
It`s Fortiche`s own unique style(Called "keyframe animation") which combines 3-D CGI character models, 2-D effects and props and matte painting in the style of old Renaissance-era Parisian oil paintings.(Fortiche is in Paris which influenced the look of Piltover, the upper city in the series.)
It’s crazy how this show just blew up when it came out. I figured when I saw the trailers it would be good but I never anticipated the endless praise it got. And this is coming from someone with no LoL knowledge.
@@Squeekysquid as a Heimerdinger main making low elo hell for most people (teammates and enemy) I agree, fans of LoL do exist. lol The storyline is what really got me hooked to the show and overall created a huge interest in the lore in general. Before Arcane I just played Heimerdinger. After Arcane Im playing a high valued Council Member with ancient and current ties to parts of the story that will likely be pivotal to events that will shape the end phase of their chapter in the show. I can't wait to see what they do with Ekko and Heimerdinger.
Arcane actually doesn’t follow the game that closely. They mostly use pre-existing concepts (like characters and locations) in order to help build the story. I think the creators have even said that nobody is safe on the show and that we shouldn’t assume that the game characters will be exempt to death or tragedy. Throughout the show, they do a pretty good job of establishing the background between the 2 cities without shoving it in your face. I think you guys will be able to piece everything together! So glad you’re covering this show bc it’s soooo amazing! One of my favs to rewatch!
The show expands already established characters (and adds new) in the game, but don't follow the game canon (think about it like an alternative universe). As an example in Arcane Jayce discovers Hex-Tech, while in the game lore Hex-Tech existed a long time before Jayce was even born and clan Ferros controls it production.
"Not that closely" is an understatement. lol It's a moba, a competitive pvp game. They'd be better off not even touching the game, unless they want to ruin their Arcane experience.
One of my favourite details in the show is how we see Jayce's Mom suffering from frostbite on two of her fingers in the flashback. Later in the episode, during the trial, we meet Jayce's Mom again, who now has two mechanical looking substitutes in the place of her two fingers. Excited to see your reactions to the other episodes aswell, I feel like this is gonna be a fun journey!
Legitimately one of the best animated TV shows ever To this day the emotions come up in the 3rd episode when Vi realizes what Powder has done, when Powder realizes what she's done, and when Powder starts screaming for Vi to not leave her
BIG BIG shout out to Diamond Dave for making the distinction between an animated series and anime. Calling something an anime because it's animated is like calling a chicken a T Rex because it shares some genealogy. It is akin to anime fans getting mad for someone calling anime a cartoon. Animation comes in many genres as does any other form of media
(meanwhile in japan where the concept is from, anime literally means animation, so everything animated is called anime, eg disney is anime)(obviously the English meaning is different so thats the right application here, but i find it funny the contradiction that forms)
Studio Fortiche did something different for their combination of 3D and 2D animation. Every physical object and character is a 3D model. But nearly all of the coloring, texturing, and details such as wisps of smoke, skin creases and wrinkles, etc, are entirely digitally hand-drawn on to every 3D surface. Every single frame of these 9 episodes is a piece of genuine art.
Episode 3 took this series to another level! First episode you think they don't wanna spend too much time setting up and showing backstory then you realise in ep 3 that everything up to this point was backstory
The slap on the wrist was in case Jace will not mention magic. Once he started talking about controlling magic , the punishment became exile ( banishment from academy was a reduced sentence probably because of sponsorship of his family and Haimerdinger recommendation)
honest to god, I clicked on this reaction randomly while having a couple drinks, love the volume, love the image ratio, get to see the show and all of you, you guys are not super loud and dont have awkward pauses, great setup and theres also great comentary after the episode is done, I think this might become my favorite reaction channel! I'll definitely watch a bunch more vids
Havent watched this yet, instant thumbs up for arcane. Edit: Also note for BaddMedicine, Im sure you will hear this alot related to this series. Many of these characters are from Riots game League of Legends. The game has been around a long time. These are some of the most liked characters, and us fans of the games know who they will grow to be, so seeing how it happened was extra special for us. Much love boys.
@@cadelinha Name was from a D&D character i made 20 years ago XD Cool spot tho. And these days im more into the LoL lore than playing. Games gone a bit downhill, new mode looks cool tho.
@@keldred7961 Oh i got it. 😃 The world of League of Legends i believe that they have about 6 games now, Wild Rift, TFT, Runeterra, and others. There is so much stuff to explore, so many good stories and characters. I hope they make good series with all that. ☺
This show is a gem, I hope you guys enjoyed, the art, the animation, the soundtrack, the symbolism etc.. everything was enjoyable to me, never thought something like this will come out of LOL but I’m glad I gave it a chance
The one thing that I really like about arcane is that every single thing connects to one another. Worldbuilding is about lore, characters, stories (though they are imortant aspects of it) it is about connections. Every single facet of the story connects to one another. Just blindly putting cool concepts without even trying to connect each of them won’t do anything. It’s all about connections.
Im so happy you guys are watching the series. its truly one of the most beautiful (art and story) shows ive ever watched and it deserves all of its flowers and recognition. The writing and visual storytelling is damn amazing.
This is probably my favorite show of all time. Just the intro, how much information and emotion they manage to get into that without saying a word. You guys are in for a ride!
there is a really nice reaction on Vi and powder by a psychologist and how their behaviour matches so well their characters. The duality like with Vander&Silco and Vi&Powder will be a recurring thing in the show, as well. Also the 3 acts are a very classic structure of a certain genre that I won't say yet because it would spoil too much. This show always gives me chills, tears, epicness. The music is a great help to the visuals and the voice actors did an amazing job too. It is crazy that all departments that are involved in such a show basically hit the maximum. Makes it hard for them to reach the same heights in Season 2 though.
Those videos about Powder, Vi and Silco from the point of view of that psychologist are almost trash. She said a couple of good things, but apart from those things, the went on and on with all that empowerment sooo damned american-style, and all those "Oh, but he loves her. He loves her sooo much". She is only fixated on the "love here" and "love there", but she totally avoided the giant, massive psychological traumas that Powder has. True, he see himself in her and there is some parental sentiment, but she focus only on that simple fact and never speak about the fact that Silco goes on and on using her, taking advantages of those traumas. He goes on and on letting her avoid them and running away from them, instead of helping her to face them, because he knows that if he gives her his help with those traumas, then she will need him no more and he will lose an important "instrument" for his plan. I would never accept to meet and go to visit with such a love&empowerment fanatic psychologist. Expecially because she is doing a damned analyst of the characters, she should anayze them from an objective point of view, without being affected by her sentiments. On the contrary, in those videos she cries and ler her sentiments going on and influencing her. Totally unprofessional, after speaking of "I'll do a psychological analyze of these characters and their relationships".
I just finished it! Aaaaaah, my heart is so happy! Arcane is my number 1 show. I am an artist, yall have no idea what this show does to my brain! The animation! The expressions! The composition! The colors! My brian fires up when i watch this, im so in love with it. And the writing! The writing is fantastic, chefs kiss. This show made me cry 3 times, once every cour. Im so happy you're watching it, your reactions were as great as i thought. Chaoter 3 made me cry so much. I love Vi so much as well. Aaaaah i cant wait! Im so excited!!!
I haven't been following for long but I'm so glad that I'm here to see your guys reaction to Arcane. It's one of the shows I wish I could go back and watch for the first time again!
One of the reasons why the show is so good at hooking you in is because it was made up by a small team that started out making advertisements! It’s so cool to think that a small group of people made this masterpiece. They also wanted the music to enhance the scenes so the songs you hear are all unique and created for this show. Its amazing cause you don’t need to play League to watch it and be a fan💜 The team even changed/tweaked the game character’s storylines to make the story flow but used the in game character quotes to decide the relationships between each character (like how Vi calls Caitlyn Cupcake in the game), sprinkling really cool Easter eggs from the LOL game but real life as well! For example. (I wouldn’t call this a spoiler but caution if you read ahead) The last scene of Powder was actually a reference to the painting “The Fallen Angel” by Alexandre Cabanel. It depicts Lucifer being cast out of heaven by God. In Lucifer’s anger and pain he searches for his own power in attempts to become greater than God. Which is very similar to Powder’s process to be her own person and working to be equal in strength or greater than Vi. (She knows she will never be as strong as Vi physically but she doesn’t need to be cause she’s a sharp shooter and an inventor.) Casting out her name and claiming Jinx as her new one. A label that hurt her but now gives her the freedom as an alter ego to make mistakes and to be unhinged cause no one will be able to use that label against her anymore. She’ll just make a joke of it anyway.🤷♀️
FYI, That line where he says his name "It's Viktor" has such a pause because he's a character from the game, but until then you didn't really know. Was a big moment on my first watch
This show is just outrageously good, it had no right to go as hard as it did. Every single thing in it is peak. The characters, the relationships, the voice acting, the animation, the music, the art direction and art style, the socio-political themes, and more. I'm really excited for you guys to continue this.
The length and coverage of your reactions and what you choose to keep in or cut out is beyond commendable, I pray your channel growth continues to peak, thank you.
I went into this show after multiple friends kept pestering me to watch it, saying it was actually really good. So I grudgingly obliged, and went into it with the expectation of watching a cheesy little animated show based on the lore of a video game, but I got SO MUCH MORE THAN I BARGAINED FOR. I'm so happy you four are finally watching through it, everyone involved with this show did an unbelievable job, especially Fortiche the animation company behind Arcane (there's a video floating around the internet somewhere that explains exactly how they made the very unique art style(s) in the show). And if there's one thing that Riot knows how to do incredibly well, it's their music. The amount of absolute killer original songs in this show's soundtrack is absurd, they always seem to find the right artists with the right styles, and create the perfect soundtracks.
So excited to see you guys react to this fantastic story, One of my favorites of all time! Everything about this show is just so perfect. Got to watch The Expanse next!
1:21:05 Talking about Three in three. The Characters in this series comes in Two on Two, it pushes the idea of Dualities. Like for Example, Vander with Silco and Vi and Powder. Those characters reflect on each other, complimenting it and completes the other half. In short, like Yin and Yang.
No way! Am i dreaming? Is really here?!?!? Guys thank youuuu for bringing to us your reaction to Arcane!!! You can't imagine how much it means to me, thank you thank you thank you!!!!
I can’t explain my excitement when I saw this video on my feed! I am so glad that you’re reacting to it in three episode bundles! It was how the creators intended it to be viewed! The show came out three episodes at a time, each representing one arc of the story.
What i did not know about this series was that this was already done years before it was released so the voice actress for powder/jinx was around 10 years old...that emotion on episode 3 was done so well...the voice actress should be i think 19 or 20 years old now...also i knew that you are gonna like this series..👍👍 Edit: i heard from "The Answer" that it is a post apocalyptic world, so i don't know if this will be considered a spoiler but all i can say is the world is vast...when magic is involved it kinda lean towards fantasy...
Mia Sinclair Jenness is the voice for Powder and she is now 18 ... and considering the simple idea for Arcana sprang forth 2015 (which is where she would have been 10), but the production only took place at around 2019 (aged 14)... I kinda doubt that your information is accurate ...
3 episodes in and it's the most I'd ever been invested in a show and it's characters. It's insane how well this show is done, I feel so much for every character, Silco a lot, as the show goes on. This show brought so much to the LoL universe and I can't wait for season 2 haha, in 5 years.
Episode 3 is definitely the episode that both breaks and hooks fans. As you guys pointed out, Powder's bomb finally worked...all too well. It's bitterly ironic, and a shocking bit of realism. People in universe and out of it are hoping that Powder's bombs will finally work how she wants. Powder wants so badly to contribute to her family. But...she's an untrained, though highly intelligent and creative child, so when her bombs finally do work, they do far more than she anticipated, and she kills almost all of her family. And I don't blame Vi for reacting the way that she did; she's also a child, who just went through a lot of trauma and stress as well. So yes, she lost her temper and struck her sister. But you immediately see her realizing what she did. Vi is still angry though, so she walks off to cool down, before she does or says anything else she'll regret. Unfortunately, the sisters are separated, and Powder's last memory of Vi is her sister slapping her, calling her a jinx, and then leaving her... Buckle up and hold on tight for the rest of Season 1...
This is my favourite story arc of the series. A classic coming of age story of a likable cast of characters derailed by extreme tragedy. Like you hinted at in the discussion afterwards, these episodes were released in sets of three with a week in between. That pattern is recognizable still with big climaxes/cliffhangers every three episodes.
First Episode - "Why can't they go in the lake and get the bag?", only to see the giant-ass fish in the background and not make the connection. Yes, the water is polluted and full of mutant fish. :)
Haven’t watched this show since my first viewing, but remember enjoying it since being a League fan for over a decade. I’ve been excited to re-watch it with you guys here!
This is a great series ! You don't need to play the game or know the game to watch this. You mostly just get to enjoy a few easter eggs, like which characters are playable, loctions, small trinkets in the background, names of things. ❤
I've been playing League of Legends for 11 years now so I got really excited when you guys announced your Arcane reaction. Here is some spoiler free information: The game itself doesn't really give you any lore since it is a strategic 5v5 game where you try to take over the map. The only lore you get there is through voice lines by the champions/characters you can play. In relation to arcane it is set in a moment in the future (a moment since time doesn't progress in the game due to the genre). Therefore, the most amazing thing as a league fan is the world building and seeing the characters in action. Arcane is considered an alternate reality lore wise but it has many elements that match with the official lore so it doesn't really feel like it. I honestly wouldn't recommend playing League of Legends to you guys. Obviously you can try it out anyways if you want to. But I'd recommend doing so as a squad of 5 including an experienced player. Be aware though that it takes a lot of time to get into, is quite competitive and the community can be really toxic in chat. It doesn't give you much information lore wise aside from characterisation. There are a few other games set in the universe of Runeterra you could check out if you want to. The only one that includes lore considered canon is Legends of Runeterra, a PvP online card game. If you are interested in the lore of the universe I highly recommend having a look at the official Runeterra interactive map and checking out the UA-cam channel "Necrit". He used to make many videos about it (until recently riot stopped releasing lore). You can also check out the official League of Legends cinematics (The Fall, Warriors, Awaken, ...). They are pretty cool, some of them are canon and they make nice reaction videos if you want to do that.
You're the first reactor I've seen that actually GOT that Powder is a parallel to Silco. When he first ask her "Hello little girl, where is your sister" he's absolutely sinister he see's her as ONLY a means to draw out VI to make sure there's no lose ends. But as SOON as she lunges at him and says "She Left me" it's written ALL OVER HIS FACE how quickly he goes from sinister to sympathy because he saw himself and ALL his trauma in this little girl. The facial animation just drives it home like a here we go around again on the cycle of violence thing. The fact none of this was motion captured is INSANE to me especially considering they HAND animated not just the incredibly detailed facial expressions but the micro expressions too. You guys are in for a ride!! Also if no one else points it out I'm sure every person that knows about the Game was screaming "NOOOOOOO Save yourself the pain!!" when you mentioned trying out the game. you absolutely DO NOT need to know anything about the game to enjoy this show.
An important information/reference, that is absent in the show: those crystals, used by Jayce and Viktor for their experiments in the game lore came from the bodies of giant, ancient crystal scorpions. There is also a character in the game, Skarner, who is a member of that race. This detail is totally absent in the show, and probably it will be retconned in the near future in the game, 'cause of Skarner rework (he is a very old character of the game, so they're trying to rework him to adapt him to the more recent version of the game). So this detail is going to disappear from the lore of Runeterra, the world of League of Legends and of Arcane. However, there is an even more important detail: those crystals, those scorpions, are alive! However, using them and consuming their energy, they will die. And in Runeterra (and Arcane, but in the show this detail is not present) there is a large use of hextech crystals. Sooo... yes: they're literally killing an entire ancient race to obtain energy and use it for their inventions. We can say "Well, in Arcane this detail is not present. And maybe they did not know about it". And here we have the worst part: there is another character, Seraphine, who knows that they are alive! She understand it! However, as the worst capitalist in the entire game, she decided to going on using those crystals because she need them, more and more, to use her inventions that let her sing and be a singer.
Heads up, Silco doesn`t have a "robotic eye", it is a damaged, infected, chemically-mutated eye which is not uncommon in Zaun due to the fissures and sewage lanes which are super polluted.
Great reaction, loved it as always, even more excited to see your reactions to this series, I do have biases to this universe, but I honestly believe the quality of Arcane goes beyond my biases, I have recommended it to friends and family who know nothing of the universe and everyone loves it. They are doing new things with the animation, the score is unbelievable, everything is 5/5. I honestly believe this series will be studied by animation students in years to come. When I finished watching the series, and even still to this day, I believed that I will never watch any cinema like it again.
Great to see you guys chew through this amazing show. The artistry and visuals just keep evolving and improving as the story progresses. Oak, just like you I keep feeling the need to talk up the directorial choices and artistic flourishes. Looking forward to the next batch.
We see it multiple times in these episodes, how Vander has become who he is today in spite of the violent man he was before, but the poetry of Silco threatening to "Show him who he really is" with the Shimmer, leading to him taking it of his own will and proving right there that he's still the man who protects his kids is just fantastic.
You saying the first three episodes are a high bar, while true, has me laughing bc it's only going to get better with every episode. Hope you guys will enjoy the rest of the series, I sure as hell did and I'm excited for your next reactions on Arcane!
I've never clicked a video faster... This was a beyond pleasant surprise! Soo excited you guys have started this series. Arguably some of the best visuals and storytelling of any other show ever. Y'all are really in for a treat!
They couldn't go into the water because it is crazy deep and there is stuff inside and yes its also polluted. The city is the crossing between two continents and some parts are therfore above the ocean. so if the bag sunk down it is gone.

Yeah, that's how I interpreted it too
She looked at her closed fist and her open palm, the closed fist is aggression and the palm is to hold.
Exactly, she was just a baby and was just trying to help.
They would’ve been rooting for her had the plan been successful
It was her 1st take too. They did another one after and went "nope, we're not improving on this. It's already perfect".
@@zakatak5280Silco would like that. Others thinking the voice was *perfect.*
anyway to find that? is the audio/video footage of that?
@flobodeluxe3531 there is a bts series "bridging the rift". In the voice in acting episode there is an appearance of both the powder va and jinx va.
@@omop413 If I recall correctly, this was both young Powder’s and older Jinx’s actresses first time voice acting. Most of the cast are longtime and primarily voice actors, but the two playing the lead character were new.
One thing I truly love about Arcane is that it is very much a show don't tell series and that they don't spoonfeed you.
There's not NEARLY enough "show don't tell" in tv and movies anymore.
Exactly. Been watching Succession these days and had a similar thought. Two great examples of show don't tell
@@tteiousSame! I love Succession and when show runners trust that their audience aren’t morons
I think the myriad of artists involved in making this would appreciate that description.
And inspired by art. Look up the fallen angel painting. Anyone who didn't get the reference will see it looks pretty familiar
@@Hohum37 dang man, and I thought I was observant! Nice catch!

"We do NOT lose Vander!" and the scream afterwards is universal experience
And Powder's voice actor in the end absolutely smashed it!! Her cries were absolutely heartbreaking
And i think the voice actress is a kid right? She is really good

[Spoiler] I really hope that the whole theory about Wander turning into Warwick on season 2 turns to be true even though riot has denied
The conversation between Vander and Vi in episode 1, where he says "You know, but you don't know" and the whole "tell them to start a fire, they'll show up with gasoline" is one of my favourite conversations in the show.
the symbolism in the “cat and mouse” scene in the first episode is incredible. the cat is piltover, the mouse is the underground. it represents silco’s desire for them to overcome the oppression they faced from the city by any means necessary, “the base violence necessary for change”. silco is a beautifully written, complex, and believable character. there is really no other character like him
I mean, if you haven´t watched Made in Abyss then sure
It's laughable how quickly I clicked on this video. So excited what you guys think about it! :)
same, couldnt believe my eyes 🤣
fr thooo i love arcane so much i cant wait to see what these guyys think
TRUE
I did the exact same thing lol
Right
I love that vander doesn't just freak out and act tough to get a point across. He respects vi enough to understand her, and talk on the same level

I love how everyone hears Viktor's accent and think "evil bad guy!" I'm so excited to see them go through this series.
Technical art ツ

I really think knowing anything about LoL makes your experience of this show worse, not better
OH I was haginh on those game characters for dear life... well then
I think we are likely to at least see characters become their game versions in some capacity though. I don't think any game characters have died yet.
@@MrJakeasaur98spoiler!!!
Vander is a semi game character...
"Not that closely" is an understatement. lol
It's a moba, a competitive pvp game.
Consistency!
The level of care and attention to detail in this show is astonishing.
Oh my goodness I never noticed
NEVER DID I EXPECT YOU GUYS TO REACT TO THIS MASTERPIECE! LET'S GOOOOO! ✨️💯🔥
I love it that you paired 3 episodes at a time. That's exactly how the story will be presented
Legitimately one of the best animated TV shows ever
To this day the emotions come up in the 3rd episode when Vi realizes what Powder has done, when Powder realizes what she's done, and when Powder starts screaming for Vi to not leave her
BIG BIG shout out to Diamond Dave for making the distinction between an animated series and anime. Calling something an anime because it's animated is like calling a chicken a T Rex because it shares some genealogy. It is akin to anime fans getting mad for someone calling anime a cartoon. Animation comes in many genres as does any other form of media
What part of the video did this happen at??
@@jusker25 not even a minute in bruh 😂
Lighting is also hand drawn. They didn't use any lighting rendering. There is also no mo cap.
Nice thing to notice Vander was going to give up when he thought everyone was dead. Second he realised Vi was alive he was ready to throw them hands.
Episode 3 took this series to another level! First episode you think they don't wanna spend too much time setting up and showing backstory then you realise in ep 3 that everything up to this point was backstory

Wakfu is awesome.
I actually remember the first time watched Arcane and saw the art style it for some reason made me think of Wakfu, even though I have never seen it.😅
The one thing that I really like about arcane is that every single thing connects to one another. Worldbuilding is about lore, characters, stories (though they are imortant aspects of it) it is about connections. Every single facet of the story connects to one another. Just blindly putting cool concepts without even trying to connect each of them won’t do anything. It’s all about connections.
My favorite part about Arcane is that every character's choices are always either both terrible and inevitable, or both correct and disastrous.
Would kill to see more episodes from you guys for Arcane. It's incredibly brilliant throughout, and just gets better the more you watch.

The sight of Powders eye at the end is symbolic of Silco's eye and how they are mirrors of each other.
I just finished it! Aaaaaah, my heart is so happy! Arcane is my number 1 show. I am an artist, yall have no idea what this show does to my brain! The animation! The expressions! The composition! Oh. My. God. FINALLYYYYYY! Oooooh I‘m so excited about this, the series had its hold on me ever since it came out! You guys are in for a ride!
(I wouldn’t call this a spoiler but caution if you read ahead)
The last scene of Powder was actually a reference to the painting “The Fallen Angel” by Alexandre Cabanel.
Glad you're all present for this amazing show ❤
This show is just outrageously good, it had no right to go as hard as it did.

What i did not know about this series was that this was already done years before it was released so the voice actress for powder/jinx was around 10 years old...that emotion on episode 3 was done so well...the voice actress should be i think 19 or 20 years old now...also i knew that you are gonna like this series..👍👍
Edit: i heard from "The Answer" that it is a post apocalyptic world, so i don't know if this will be considered a spoiler but all i can say is the world is vast...when magic is involved it kinda lean towards fantasy...
Mia Sinclair Jenness is the voice for Powder and she is now 18 ... and considering the simple idea for Arcana sprang forth 2015 (which is where she would have been 10), but the production only took place at around 2019 (aged 14)... I kinda doubt that your information is accurate ...
The ending scene with powder in silcos arms where she turns to the camera is a reference to "fallen angel" by cabanel.
3 episodes in and it's the most I'd ever been invested in a show and it's characters. It's insane how well this show is done, I feel so much for every character, Silco a lot, as the show goes on. This show brought so much to the LoL universe and I can't wait for season 2 haha, in 5 years.
You guys have no idea everything that's in store for the next few episodes! It's truly incredible, I think you'll really enjoy it
Episode 3 is definitely the episode that both breaks and hooks fans.
And this is how you write an adaptation. You can feel that this was made with love and attention.
So glad we got the 1st 3 episodes together! Initially I thought it was only 2. I was so excited to see it was 3! Episode 3 really cements the series.
Love this show. It may be a cartoon but the lessons and life advice you could take from this show is amazing. Truly a work of art.
First Episode - "Why can't they go in the lake and get the bag?", only to see the giant-ass fish in the background and not make the connection.
Yes, the water is polluted and full of mutant fish. :)
one of the best netflix shows ever made! so excited for your guys reactions!!

You're truly man of culture, spreading the hate for that pink haired psychopath banshee. What a chad!
One of the best game adaptations ever, very well written, great animation. Very emotional.
Heads up, Silco doesn`t have a "robotic eye", it is a damaged, infected, chemically-mutated eye which is not uncommon in Zaun due to the fissures and sewage lanes which are super polluted.
I've watched this series 4x, and the vibe between Vander and Silco is soooo Xanvier and Magneto.
So excited. Arcane is amazing. One of my fave seasons of a show ever
Also the winner of last year's animated Emmy award and 9 annie awards for excellence in animation
"His name is Viktor with a k, you always gotta be leery of him."
Best take.
Gotta mention, love that Oak still got Gryffindor scarf and Harry's glasses on his mic from reaction to reaction :D
Episode 3 is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever watched from a series.
The toxicity of the water and those scary monsters in it... _that_ is why the gang didn't swim down to recover the Piltover loot.
OMG, I am sooooo excited for ya'll to watch this. There is so much done well in this show. ♥
my jaw dropped to the floor when i saw the notification. Arcane is easily one of my favorite shows, I'm so glad that you guys are reacting to it
omgggg you're all gonna love this!! can't wait for the oaks thoughts and analysis❤
I've never clicked a video faster...
This was a beyond pleasant surprise! Soo excited you guys have started this series. Arguably some of the best visuals and storytelling of any other show ever.
Y'all are really in for a treat!
LET'S GOOO! MY MOST AWAITED REACTION IS FINALLY HERE! Ya'll going to love it! :)
"Hairless cat! That's always the sign of a villain!"
....I have 2 of those. xD Guess that makes me a super villain.
You guys are in for such a treat with this one! Can't wait to see your reactions
They couldn't go into the water because it is crazy deep and there is stuff inside and yes its also polluted. The city is the crossing between two continents and some parts are therfore above the ocean. so if the bag sunk down it is gone.
