I watched the original again for like the 5th time, the goofy decisions of the characters sticks out like a sore thumb after years of people trashing the characters of prometheus and covenant. if you apply the same to the nostromo crew, you realize they're fn idiots. lol
@@moviereelnews Totally agree with you. I think this sort of thing is 90% nostalgia bias and 10% novelty. The original was something no one had really done before, so groundbreaking for its time and the novelty can't ever be captured again. But outside of that, I think it's mostly nostalgia. There are some movie remakes and sequels I like better than the original and I notice it's usually because I watched the remake first or because I didn't see the original until around the same time as the remake. You're not sitting on it being one of your favorite movies for decades, and that means nostalgia doesn't factor in.
Remake examples better than the original, including a lot of horror genre: Evil Dead (2013), Dune (2021, 2024), The Thing (1982 - people actually forget it's a remake lol), A Star is Born (2018), It (2017, 2019), Little Women (2019), The Invisible Man (2020), Suspiria (2018).
These are just some examples. In the hands of a talented director, they can do it better. A lot of older films are, if we are being honest, charming and original but also campy and simple.
@arfielding4495 I agree. unlike alien i can watch ALIENS many times and safely say that film holds up VERY well for what it is. I appreciate horror over action horror...so I have a good feeling alien romulus might become my favorite film of the franchise. the og alien film has built itself up on nostalgia stacked on top of nostalgia. I can be objective and say yes it was very good, and for it's time it stood apart...but if I throw away all the group think you realize it's a flawed film. and I agree with the remakes you listed they're definitely better for sure.

I could go on. It's also disputable whether Evil Dead is better than Evil Dead 2 (which itself was more-or-less a remake of the original) and isn't really fair IMO, given the amount of time passed, to compare The Invisible Man in this context. Both are fantastic films.
@@arfielding4495 That's exactly how I feel about most of these classic films. I can appreciate them for what they are and what they did at the time they were released, but I didn't watch them then so I don't have the same attachment as a lot of people do, and that's totally fine. I'm sure I feel the same way about some films that I have a lot of nostalgia for but nowadays they aren't that great.

@danixinhahhh I understand the longer you make your vid the more public watch hours you'll receive thereby unlocking patreon features for content creators on UA-cam. I too have that goal, but rambling on and on makes it very obvious
@@grantreborn That's not why I do it, honestly. If you check my other videos you'll see that most of them are around 10min long, I guess I just got carried away with this one. I am truly working on not rambling too much at the beginning of my videos. Still, I appreciate the feedback :)

@@halophonia I like Michael biehn more than the next guy but I like moodier shit with smaller stakes. Also I just don’t like kids in movies and the last action sequence goes on FOREVER… big action movies gross more at the box office so it’s no surprise to me but inventive horror movies can make many times their much smaller budgets. Obviously Terminator >T2 as well

I like to hear the reviews that aren't biased the original. To me these remakes and reboots that create new fans are the ones that deserve the praise :)

@@danixinhahhh I almost feel like if someone went into this movie totally blind of the series it might not hit the same.
I just watched it, and there are so many callbacks and Easter Eggs and just downright grit in the scenery. I could be wrong, I am very biased as a huge fan of the franchise.
@@dontheador6649 Yeah, I kind of agree with you. I don't think you necessarily need to watch all the films but this is clearly a sequel to the first one and it does pay off watching it beforehand.

The third act, as I said, really surprised me. It has the same vibe as the ending in the original film but they added something else that shocked me! There's one particular scene that was pretty gross.

Did you watch Aliens (Alien 2). Aliens is much better than Alien so why not compare it to Aliens?
I didn't watch Aliens. I compared it to Alien because this one is supposted to be a sequel to the first one.

I wouldn't say they did. There aren't a lot of full on horror moments, but the ones that are are pretty graphic and gross.

@@danixinhahhh I would advise caution for the future, as otherwise you will get in serious trouble with the studios. The embargo is being lifted today, your channel was just too small to be noticed (so far).
@@janfwagner I don't know how that works with me being outside of the US. I've been to press screenings before where they made me sign an NDA, this wasn't one of them, so I just assumed I could talk about the film.
