I'm learning UE to try and mash EverQuest, Daggerfall, and Minecraft together. My pipe dream. But I'm looking forward to seeing a once lost icon on my desktop
As someone who has been following this project for over 4 years now and has been a very active participant in their discord, I can say for certain this team has the right attitude towards this. They are very clear on what their goals are and have very grounded expectations on the development process. They had a bit of a slow start with some uncertainty thrown into the mix, but lately they've expanded their team and have been very consistent in their expectations. I hope for their success.
That's great news to hear, I have followed the team for a couple of months now and they seem very active in their development and interaction with the community. I'm very excited for their Kickstarter as well as future updates on this very exciting and ambitious game! Oh, and thanks for stopping by!
God, I wish they'd make a game like this have a co-op feature...i don't need massive multiplayer, I just want to go on an adventure with a friend and share my experiences
I originally thought that's what the elder scrolls online was going to be, then found out it was another world of warcraft pre ordered the game and played it for less than 5 hours. But yea 2-4 player co op in a game like this would be a dream, make it so you can travel to their world via a mages guild portal or something like that and see how their choices effected the world they are playing though.
it's not a confirmed feature, but they have said in the past that they're looking into ways to add coop to the game. whether they do it or not, the game is planned to have official modding support, and it uses unreal engine. that almost guarantees that multiplayer mods will be at least possible, since unreal engine has a ton of third party support.
Wayward Realms looks more and more promising every day. I dunno whether it'll be "the Elder Scrolls killer", but I'm definitely anticipating the release of Wayward Realms far more than TES VI.
That's really up to what Bethesda does. I thought Skyrim was great on release but the more I played the more disappointed I became with the game. So many features that made it an RPG for me were removed. Its not that I don't love the elder scrolls, I just don't like the direction Bethesda has taken it and how they treat the fans of the franchise. And their not the only company letting down their fan base. I only play older games or ones from smaller studios now.
As long as the dungeons aren't as convoluted as Daggerfall's, I'll be excited! I hope this game does get realized because there aren't enough in-depth 3D RPGs like Morrowind or Dragons Dogma out there. I was looking forward to Avowed but the more I hear about it the less interested I become...
Agreed, loved Daggerfalls generated dungeons but they were hard to navigate and I've been lost inside them on multiple occasions. Loved pretty much all the TES games but I crave that daggerfall random-ness where each playthrough is a unique experience. And it seems like for RPG'S The Wayward Realms is checking a lot of boxes for me so far. Again thanks for stopping by and checking out my content!
This has been on my wish list for years already. Its a really great community. Bethesda has fallen hard over the last 10 years with no end to the shit writing in sight. These guys could cure what ails us, if their Kickstarter succeeds.
High hopes for this one, most of the games I play that are new, (within the last 5 years) have pretty much been from kick starters. Barony and For the King are two great rougelikes that came from kick starter as well as the board games ROOT and Scythe just to mention a few. So great things are possible. The community for this game is great as you have said and the developers are very active in said community and have achieved a lot considering they have no publisher or outside funding at this point. I'm keeping a close eye on this game and intend to produce more content as information becomes available, good or bad.
I started playing Daggerfall outside of Unity in an emulator about 6 years ago and it was then I realized what we lost. I'm playing the Unity version right now. Again. I play it more than other Elder Scrolls games. It's surreal to me Wayward Realms is happening. A new game by the very people that made the thing I now play all the time? If anyone was going to subvert Elder Scrolls with something new, it should be by the guys who made Elder Scrolls. They can have my money. Also, especially the architectural style and feel of Wayward Realms screams " Daggerfall 2 ". It's wild. I feel like I'm getting a sequel to Daggerfall. Even though that's supposed to be Morrowind.
I believe i'm a first-time viewer, and I did enjoy this, thank you. WR is getting significant buzz in several circles but I hadn't actually watched a breakdown of it yet. Nice job knowing which questions to ask also. It seems like a good sign there's so much clarity regarding what potential players might like seeing. I'm hoping they are able to fully realise some of these concepts because this sounds like an excellent idea.
Thanks for the comment, I try to put a lot of effort into my videos so they are entertaining and informative. As more information becomes available I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks again!
Wayward Realms LOOKS great and has the potential to be something truly special, but its WAY too early to be calling it a killer of anything. So many games were hailed as a "? killer" early on, only to prove that the game it was suppose to kill was better. I look forward to seeing more about and eventually playing wayward realms.
Honestly it has a lot to with both companies, TES is a great series but for the long time fans they have gone in a different direction gameplay wise in terms of mechanics. Some choices being great such as better combat, graphics, and as always compelling lore. But they have lost some of the charecter mechanics that defined them as great RPGs. The Wayward Realms will only be a killer if Bethesda allows it by producing a low quality Elder Scrolls 6. With such a long wait on a sequel as well as the huge amount of funding they have available if they produce a flop they deserve to lose their fan base.
I'd rather not put my trust in two guys who last had major roles in a video game over 30 years ago. This will be just another typical Kickstarter with a bunch of empty promises. There have been too many developers who have done this in the past and have next to nothing to show for it. Just look at Shroud of the Avatar.
I can understand the skepticism, especially after being burned by other developers. It's almost like heartbreak 💔 lots of promises time and even money spent to just be let down at the end. But I have seen and helped fund a few successful projects from kickstarter myself so I know it is possible. If anything don't invest to much time on this one and If anything time will tell. Thanks for checking out the video though and appreciate taking the time to leave a comment.
Especially the whole "bigger scope, even bigger than Daggerfall". I typically get the reply that comparing Daggerfall to Starfield is nonsensical but is it so? Starfield directly follows from the tradition of Daggerfall and attempting to create a comprehensive simulation of virtual world. Todd Howard said so himself. Hell, looking back at Daggerfall, it managed to achieve its impressive size only by making 99% of the world an absolute wasteland with nothing to do whatsoever. Bethesda just didn't go all the way in their own rendition of the formula. Why exactly should anyone consider that kind of scope a good ambition for a studio is beyond me. I very much hope it's gonna end up a good experience but it sure does look like just another Icarus in the wait.
@@thosebloodybadgers8499 I suggest you look at Daggerfall Unity and many of the popular mods that bring that large world to life. This means that a large world full of content is entirely possible, only that modern Bethesda are mediocre game developers. The developers for Wayward Realms, having worked on the original Daggerfall, are aware of DFU and its mods, and are inspired by some of the mods. They've actually said that much was intended for the OG Daggerfall, but because od time and technology, couldn't bring them to fruition in 96. Point is: Daggerfall is an engrossing RPG even to this day, and if Wayward Realms is anything similar to DF, it will be great. If you look at the path of Bethesda streamlining and trying to play it safe. Starfield was a disaster. Anyway; i really hope this comes out as a full fleshed out game and not some overly monitized F2P or live service thing as this really does sound like a great breath of fresh air. The main game world and dungeons are being procedurally generated. Every player will have the same game world as far as the over world go's. They are then going to give it a pass over and touch things up by hand such as capital cities, towns, and unique points of interest so its a mix of both. For dungeons they will be generated at run time similar to Daggerfall so each dungeon will be different for each character you create which gives great replay ability. They program the AI to act as a level designer crafting it by hand. You get the look and feel of hand crafted with the uniqueness of procedural generation.
