- 2020 BMW, M50I front differential replacement. I couldn’t find anything online referencing a newer style X5 hopefully this helps somebody else! This repairs shouldn’t even be happening should be covered by BMW however, their powertrain warranty runs out at 50,000 miles, so left the person stuck. 
The more forms I read, I figured out that this is a common problem with BMWs, especially X5’s soooo…
The differential had a pretty severe leak, and sounded like a jar of marbles…

You're a stud in my books. My wife has the same EXACT car (White 2020 X5 M50i with 70K miles) and we just found out that the front diff has the same issue. Fortunately, I bought the extended warranty so they are covering it....but I'm with you...they should have absolutely covered this under MFR warranty whether you had purchased the extended warranty or not. This is a crazy operation to do yourself...congrats.

My front differential went up last year I was going to Oregon and broke down in Wyoming had it tow to Kansas and with the help of neighbor and my brother we got my 08 h2 hummer back on the road

you should consider a pro differential shop to press in bearings and set up gear backlash for you...only thing worse than doing a job like that is doing it twice...lol. Dont ask me how I know!

Mine is now noisey around left turns at speed (wheelbearings are fine) only has 67k miles.

Huh...looks just like the bottom end of a Ducati crankcase...makes me wonder if there's not enough preload on those Ball bearings? Yup, I said preload. Duc's will grenade the bottom end bearings if you don't have .0025"-.0035" compression(preload) on the bearings from the case itself. I'm wondering if BMW hasn't learned this lesson about Ball Bearings yet, and built it a bit loose thinking they don't want too much axial load on them, when, in fact, they need to be loaded to live???
