Mercyful Fate is a Rocking Danish Heavy Metal Band, formed in 1981 by Vocalist King Diamond and Guitarist Hank Sherman. Mercyful Fate were part of the first wave of Black Metal in the early to mid 1980's. The other members of the band are Sharlee D'Angelo(born Charles Peter Andreason) Bassist, Hank Shermann(born René Krolmark) Guitarist, Mike Wead(born Mikael Vikström) Musician & Studio Engineer & Keyboardist & Guitarist, and Bjarne T. Been awhile, I remember being introduced to Mercyful at a pretty tender age by a young would be heavy metal guitarist, the impact they and their generation have on metal and danish culture in general is mind boggling to this day...
I saw Mercyful Fate in 1999, in Toronto, at the Reverb. They were touring the album 9, if I'm not wrong. Nevermore opened. Unreal. Fate did 2 sets. After the 1st set, I Called King over. He grabbed my hand , stared into my eyes, with his evil look. Didn't say a word. Got to shake hands with Hank Shermann, and Sharlee D'angelo, as well. Fucking incredible. One of the best shows I ever saw. Mercyful Fate and King Diamond solo are two of my favorite bands, since the mid-80's. Neither has put out anything I don't love. The KING rules!!
Diamond Banger for life!!! I saw THEM on that tour I took pics of MF and Nevermore. It was an awesome show. KING signed my cd booklets along with Mike Wead. Sharlee gave me his beer. I met Sharlee again a few years ago, stagehanding his other band. Got to hangout at the bar with him. Pretty kool dude.
King Diamond gets me so pumped! I will be driving down the road screaming along and completely rocking out. People looking over at me probably think I'm a lunatic.
+datNERO17 He says he's more of an atheist then a satanist. Which is my stance on religion. I don't believe in God so therefore I equally don't believe there is an entity named Satan. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked. (Be kind) 2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them. (Stop whining) 3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there. (Give respect when due) 4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy. (Demand respect when deserved) 5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal. (DO NOT RAPE) 6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved. (Do not steal) 7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained. (Humility & Thankfulness. Offer credit to the universe to refrain from arrogance.) 8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself. (Dont complain if you did it to yourself and could have avoided it) 9. Do not harm little children. 10. Do not kill animals unless you are attacked or for your food. (Respect ALL life) 11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him. (Treat others as you wish to be treated!)
Just to let you all know King Diamond is almost about 60 and is still having a ball cranking out tunes till this day. He and his band mates have no interest in seeming hardcore. They just enjoy doing creepy opera goth metal! I'm just amazed they still got it after all these years! And who doesn't like a band that can take urban legends and ghost story things and make them into music.
I love it when people talk about how “scary” King Diamond is. Ironically, he’s one of the nicest and most hospitable metal musicians I’ve ever met. By far. Couldn’t ask for a nicer guy.
That’s exactly how people that I know that know him describe him. Very polite and kind . I will take him over some of these so called Christians any day.
Is it me or is there something magical about King Diamond's falsetto? He sounds like a witch, makes a lot of sense. I dont see how people dont get his range
@@tabatabv8481 True, I like that analogy even better \m/. Some people hate his voice. I dont get it. He's a very theatrical sounding Metal singer. Very unique. His falsetto has this haunting, melodic quality to it while still sounding wicked and evil sounding
@@youreadopted3960 He sounded more like Halford on the early Mercyful Fate albums. Kings high notes are very, very clean with a lot of twang. His high notes are similar sounding to Rob's early Priest days. Apples and oranges tho. They both use very different techniques to get to the high notes

Great song overall, one of their best from their 90's catalogue. Time on the whole is a very underrated Mercyful Fate album. Although I love the band King Diamond a lot and hope to see them live someday, I think that I like Mercyful Fate just a bit better. So much dark content, each song original, the combo of Shermann and Denner, it's just hard to beat.
On "The Eye" he played ddrum electric drums and people had a fit about it. Probably one of the first recordings of MIDI drum tracks that allowed for easy track replacement. They were 30 years ahead of everyone else.
Mercyful Fate unique in the music worldwide. Nobody like them. Still fantastic now I've seen rhem once and they were superb. Every record is diffeent from each other. Still amazing.
King unleashing the barking rottweiler is my favorite scene, gives me chills since my childhood. Notice the wee pet with his left hand when he lets him go :)
Nothing this dude touches ever gets old. He is a true master of songcrafting.

Sherman and Denner were two of greatest underrated guitar duos in all of 80s heavy metal. Those two albums were fruckin masterpieces.

Agreed, Sherman and Denner are absolutely a top guitar duo. I can't think of a pair I like more in any other band.
I rember preferring to listen to Don't Break The Oath to Ride The Lightening when they were both new!

Just like a demon's eye
The moon was dancing on the blackened sky
In my sleep nothing is real
Dreaming I'm dreaming
I can feel the shadows lurking
I can feel them closing in
I can hear their evil chanting
This is not a dream for a king
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
Cold hands, leading the way
Through the woods and into the night
Outside nothing is real
Dreaming I'm dreaming
I can see a fire burning
Hooded shapes are all around
I can see a throne of silver
Thirteen we are in all
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
Before the Goat Of Mendes
We all must take our turn
Into the magic circle
Where still the fire burns
We're spinning round and round
Until one takes a fall
The fallen one will not return
The fallen one must burn
Just like a demon's eye
The moon is dancing on the blackened sky
I'm awake but nothing is real
Dreaming, not dreaming
I can feel the shadows lurking
I can feel them closing in
I can hear their evil chanting
This is not a dream at all
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing the dance
I wish this was only a dream
A dream within a dream
Dancing the Witch's Dance
Dancing till death

On "The Eye" he played ddrum electric drums and people had a fit about it. Probably one of the first recordings of MIDI drum tracks that allowed for easy track replacement.
They were 30 years ahead of everyone else.
Yeah I think this pretty much the only album he actually played
He has the aesthetic and the showmanship of a great metal drummer. . His drumming is full of nuances that make time such a great album.
Why don't they never play live, this song?
Ive been looking for this for a long time!!
This video kicks ass so hard. God damn do I love Mercyful Fate.
very underrated album, but it's my favorite!
Time just like king diamond the spiders lullaby are very underrated both great albums made at the wrong time
2020 and it still shreds so fucking hard
amo o agudo desse cara.
Mercyful Fate unique in the music worldwide. Nobody like them. Still fantastic now I've seen rhem once and they were superb. Every record is diffeent from each other. Still amazing.
King unleashing the barking rottweiler is my favorite scene, gives me chills since my childhood. Notice the wee pet with his left hand when he lets him go :)
call me crazy but everytime I hear the intro to this song, makes me wanna scream, ''Let's dance!" in a witch's voice!
Hermoso ❤️
