    I bought the album when I was 16 (LP) 40 years later...and I'm 56 now.

Yep, I was 17 when I bought it, saw them at L’Amour and the Beacon Theatre in NYC when they were touring for this album. Lemmy and Motörhead were complete douche bags for yanking the King offstage, as they knew it would not be easy to follow them, much like when Metallica opened for GnR, GnR knew they were in trouble.

Timi's bass playing is off the hook, the dual guitars are masterful, the drumming is top-notch and King's vocals are insanely good. Sadly, no one makes records like this anymore. Thankfully we have this masterpiece to enjoy for years to come.

Don't Break the Oath is the second studio album by Danish heavy metal band Mercyful Fate, released in 1984.
The style Mercyful Fate employed on ''Don't Break the Oath'' resembled a mixture of heavy metal with progressive elements, lyrically preoccupied with Satan and the occult and distinguished by King Diamond's theatrical falsetto vocals. Although very influential to future black metal bands due to its lyrical content, the music itself is more reminiscent of traditional heavy metal. The album was remastered and subsequently re-issued on Roadrunner Records in 1997. This reissue came with the bonus track "Death Kiss (Demo)", which would eventually evolve into the album's lead-off track, "A Dangerous Meeting". Metal Rules named this the greatest extreme metal album of all time.

      Don't break the oath....
      just break the record instead.
Hawkwind were doing this kind of stuff in the late 60's.

Hawkwind is great. Im sure Mercyful Fate took some influence from the in some form but they are still different. Why not just listen to both?

I am bummed that I have severe agoraphobia, it would be a damn dream to see Mercyful Fate on their current tour, luckily I saw King Diamond in 2004 before my issues were severe. One of my favorite singers, completely underrated for sure, responsible for some of the best bands to come later.

This was my first taste of MF...or so I thought...this cassette I bought brand new in 1989 actually had Slayer's Hell Awaits album on it somehow. I'd never heard Slayer yet at that time either so I went a while thinking I was listening to MF when I was actually hearing Slayer. Needless to say I discovered 2 bands in 1 and love them both, thank you Metal Blade!

Hello...Hank Shermann n Michael Denner . Think Shermann was all of 19yrs old (?)
During this time Shermann composed all the music for 1983's Melissa and most of 1984's Don't Break the Oath, widely considered Mercyful Fate's most seminal albums.
