Yes I’d say safely that Napalm pushed the envelope to the extremes, and Carcass turned it into the most incredible artistic expression I’ve ever witnessed. The whole catalog of Caracas’ work, including the newest EP is simply beyond comparison and just when I think they are done and have no more musical wizardry to bestow upon us, I am wrong beyond my own comprehension. I even expected the latest song, “Slaughtered in Soho” to be another very good song. I was wrong. It is simply one of the most beautiful melodies where Bach would be proud of his multi century influence and yet the song is brutal and somewhat comical all at the same time- But that’s Carcass, tongue in cheek, biting the cheek, smiling wryly, triple entendres, deadly serious, and playfully exercising our lexicon past the limits of known verbiage. Between the two albums Necroticism and Heartwork, there are dozens of permutated utterances requiring many hours with a medical dictionary and a musical dictionary for me to decode it all, and the result is even more crazy, beautiful, insightful, and real than any artistic endeavor should be.

As someone who listens to quite a bit of guitar music, I never understood the "heavy-ness" contest. Carcass had/have so much melody mixed in with their brutal tones, it’s actually really easy listening as far as extreme music goes. Such killer grooves and Jeff Walker’s vocals just had something ultra appealing about it. They were trailblazers of multiple sub genres of metal and each album was a new blueprint. Few of their contemporaries at the time matched their level of melody with heaviness. And almost 30 years later they’re still providing quality!

Heartwork was so revolutionary at the time, merging the brutality of grind and death metal with the fist-pumping feel of classic metal like Maiden or Dio that got me into metal in the first place. Death and Atheist were going for something similar, but were more proggy/techy and didn't have that "just go out and kick ass" kind of attitude that Carcass displayed.

Enjoying this masterpiece since 1993 when it came out then. I bought it on cassette tape! I never knew what a classic it would become! Timeless work of art.
I remember in mid 0f 90s I had VHS with 4 hours video clips from MTV channel (thx to satellite tv) "headbangers balls" and this song was there. One of my favorite from that, and in the end of tape "No love lost".
A great classic and one of the best if not the best sound production back in early 90s I remember it well, I was speechless to the quality and clean sound just perfect I mean look even today the sound of the album is still good crazy
Ken Owen's was solid! Sucks what happened to him, but he's looks happy so that's all that matters. This album and Storm Of The Light's Bane changed my life as a young teen.
I have so much respect for this song because of the amount of relief that I managed to perceive from my daily workflow, with this craftsmanship I was been able to keep inspired at the different labs that I worked for, stuyding and exercising. Got to see them live in 2016
God I still remember this coming on Headbanger's Ball and me stopping in the middle of a sentence to just stare at the screen. Probably one of the last times I was truly blown away by hearing something new on MTV at all, let alone Headbanger's Ball, which was a mostly punk show not long thereafter

Magniloquent, bleeding dark
Monotonous palate, murky spectrum, grimly unlimited
Food for thought, so prolific
In contrasting shades, forcely fed
Abstraction, so choking, so provocative
A canvas to paint, to degenerate
Dark reflections - degeneration
A canvas to paint, to denigrate
Dark reflections, of dark foul light
Profound, aesthetic beauty
Or shaded, sensary corruption
Perceptions, shattered, splintered, mirroring
In deft taints, diluted, tinted
Spelt out, in impaired colour
Denigrating, going to paints to pain - not a pretty picture
Works of heart bleeding dark

Great guitar and great drums...The adrenaline rush that I get is unreal when I see them jamming together..These guys are very Fucking talented... been listening to them since I was 14....I'm 40 now.. True talent and great music stand the test of time!!!!

2023, still a flawless gem
The whole album is a god- given masterpiece!
After almost 20 years since its release I think it’s more than fair to call “Heartwork” one of the best metal albums ever recorded. Top 10 for sure, top 5? Maybe!
Actually, the album was released in 1993. Masterpiece.
Jeff's hollowbody bass in this video is sick
30 years later and it stills kicks the shit❤
The guitar tone on that album is definitive statement in heaviness
I’m in love with the part from 2:12 to 2:40, such a melodic riff!
Memories!! I remember being a black metal head at the time, where it wasn’t cool to listen too any death metal bands anymore. I had to listen to this & Seance albums quietly or I wasn’t true lol!!
The leap between their first two albums and their third and then to Heartwork is unlike any other that I know of in any genre.
This could fit in any style you would want to play it. Amazing 🤩
Pianist Catherine Fearns proves you right.
Enjoying this masterpiece since 1993 when it came out then. I bought it on cassette tape! I never knew what a classic it would become! Timeless work of art.
Yeeaarrsss ago... The 1st death metal song I ever heard...
Still stands the test of time 20+ years latet
Liked it as a teen and still like it as a adult. One of that songs that never gets old.
A Real HEARTWORK
Absolute timeless classic!! I've had this album since it was released and still listen to it regularly \m/ playing this on the show this week
Those harmonies in the intro - music to my ears. 🤘🏻
So this band doesn't give you pain in the ear despite the label is called earache records?
Nope! 😂
I remember in mid 0f 90s I had VHS with 4 hours video clips from MTV channel (thx to satellite tv) "headbangers balls" and this song was there. One of my favorite from that, and in the end of tape "No love lost".
Why is this so underrated? This is so good
This song is awesome
I bought this on cassette in 1992. 2021, still kicks metal ass. \m/
A great classic and one of the best if not the best sound production back in early 90s
I remember it well, I was speechless to the quality and clean sound just perfect I mean look even today the sound of the album is still good crazy
Trying to grow long hair like this, fuck it's hard. These guys put much care in to hair products and grooming as they do music. For real
Simply a masterpiece....bought it when it came out and still listening......
Ken Owen's was solid! Sucks what happened to him, but he's looks happy so that's all that matters. This album and Storm Of The Light's Bane changed my life as a young teen.
Sommething in this albunm makes me play every saturday morning.
Epic masterpiece (and thanks to Colin Richardson for making this wonderful sound)
This song is 10 out of effing 10. Discovered them in 07 when I was 16 and I'm still obsessed
One of my favorite guitar tone ever!!!
Акуеть, 30 лет хиту, а мы всё так же молоды, быстро время летит
Okay okay..it’s been like 8yrs since..I listened to this song..? I have been so busy listening to what’s new .. and who is so fukin throw down in. The industry today?
But …☝🏾..I dug up this Song .☝🏾..from my early days of old ..and was completely..dumbfounded..fuk me !
I So forget how much Carcass rips shit!
Pioneers..of everything that is Metal today 🤘🏽
So under rated..especially back then…hats off ..!
Mad luv to y’all..
Napalm Death and Carcass. The best of Grind-Metal to Death Metal band legend.
Bill Steer played in them both!
🏴 🔥
So heavy and melodic. System overload!
Damn, this song really makes you feel the Devil's Call in Your Heart
This deserves a HD upgrade!!
My first exposure to them was in high school, when my best friend showed me the album cover with the infamous JFK autopsy. As soon as I seen that cover, I was like "I have to hear what these guys sound like." I wasn't disappointed.
This album was perfect for the young metal drummer I was back then. Both accessible and challenging. Wish I could still play.
How's hearing in 2022 ? The best carcass song on the heartwork album💪♎️
