This Paint Was the Hardest I've Ever Polished - Brewster Green 992 GT3 Touring

- This car was pretty much making me hate life for the first 80% of it, until I bought some Griot's Fast Correcting Cream. It took care of all the challenges I seemed to be having. Up until now, I have never run into a scenario where having Jescar and Sonax perfect finish did not get me 90% of the way there. This paint is unique, and I don't know exactly why the Griots worked so well but it did.

THIS is why you’re the best, Matty.
You tell people the real shit. That’s why we pay more sometimes, why we pay shipping and why we all trust you.
I've found Correcting cream/fast correcting cream to be very easy to work with. Low dust, seems to finish out very nice and easy removal. They definitely got a winner with this one.
Always pleasure to hear your experiences Matt, you don’t mess about and it’s very refreshing.
That Mirka polisher looks awesome. This was my first time hearing about it even though it seems to have been around for over a year or so. Car is coming along nicely Matt!
Matt is the reason I have a gt3.
I am interested in the Mirka 3" random orbit polisher. Thanks for finding this. Products like this one are why I like OG.
Great video, appreciate all your feedback on what you used, how you did it, and all of semi-pro detailers have had this frustration with certain cars, so thanks for sharing this experience on your Porsche. Just proof that buying a new car has disadvantages sometimes, no matter how much you spend.
This story is one very similar to one I’ve had recently with a used black 997.2 I purchased. I tried several compounds to get the myriad of Clearcoat and paint scratches the previous owner never bothered to correct and I think used the “I see it’s dusty or dirty so I’ll use a micro fiber and spray wax method” which also added to nightmare of swirls and scratches. Griots correcting cream was the only thing that seemed to work and actually restored the finish without a tremendous amount of effort. It took 90% of the scratches out, and saved the car. Griots is overpriced in my opinion for some products, but their correcting cream is the real deal, and is worth the money. Their perfecting cream is also good, and their actual polishers they sell are also top notch. For certain projects and cars, Griots is a great option….
Mirka are great, following the company for years but never bought them as i couldnt get a demo from a rep to hear what they sound like and run like and most were pneumatic
I used the fast correcting cream to get scratches and swirls out of my Macan a few weekends ago using my Rupes polisher. The stuff works. Nice results
Holy cow, great polisher, they sell it in EU for 1000.-, now itmis reduced on ama for 750
But they habe another smalle battery in it. Wich one do you jse?
What did you not like about Cutmax? You said you used it to spot treat but why not do the whole car with it?
IIRC it worked well on the Z06.
Thanks for the update. Looks great
With 3" and 5" pad it added a ton of deeper microfiber tick marks (scratches).
If & when I’m bored, I watch MM car/detail videos for entertainment & light comedy. This dude’s OCD/mannerisms/style just cracks me up! BTW the Touring looks 🔥🥇🇩🇪 Cheers mate/B
Who’s MM?
@@555fourthstreet8 Matt Moreman
I don't have the time or patience, so I did a clear wrap on my 992 GT3, GT4 RS, 992 GT3 RS (on the ship now, arrives in 3 weeks), and Macan S (it's black and looks great because of it). I did race livery on my 992 GT3 Cup car. Porsche paint umis water based for the environment...it's weak and hard to maintain....so I always wrap. You can see them on my channel.
Edit: Ineven did a full clear wrap on my 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition (2021 was the final year for the LC in the US, after 62 years of production...and the new ones sold outside the US are not naturally aspirated V8s...they are turbo or diesel 6 cylinders. Toyota paint is heartier than Porsche paint, but I'll have this collector SUV in my collection forever...so I got it wrapped.
I too own fairly New Porsche Macan GTS, what do you put on the Q tips to clean the Porsche Emblem? Love your videos , thanks…
I used McKee's N914.
Love the color of the car! Looks good on the video! Turned out really nice 👍
So how much clear is left on the car? Did you take any paint meter readings?
Paint meters are such junk. I have the best one that exists, and it tells you basically nothing. I likely removed 2-4 microns.
Koch chemie's yellow bottle with purple wool pad and 3-4 inch pad is what ive used with my mirka arop312 and or flex pxe80 for the newer Porsche and GM/GMC and finish if needed with a white pad.
I use Mirka in the woodworking world - the ergonomics of their stuff is insane.
Mirca makes very solid tools. I have used the Griots Boss products. They have just worked well.
*Non metallic paint are a nightmare to work on and keep swirl free. I'll never buy one, same with black paint*
100%. My wife’s Outback Wilderness is Geyser Blue, which is non-metallic. Shows so many swirls and scratches. Has since day 1. She doesn’t care so I just try to ignore it.
Couldn't you just do a clear wrap? That's what I did on my 992 GT3, GT4 RS, 992 GT3 RS (on ship now, arrives in 3 weeks), and Macan S (it's black and looks great because of it). Did race livery on my 992 GT3 Cup car.
@@damachine3 PPF IS the clear wrap. But it only hides so many sins.
Like they say, black isn’t a color, it’s a full time job. I have a nonmetallic black A4. So hard to keep it from getting water spotted.
@Joe Tacchino I know. I get mine paint corrected and perfected and then I PPF/clear wrap it.
Already have that little Mirka on the way, can't wait for the guys to try it out!!
In Ruby Stars defense, Magnus loves it. Almost ordered it too, BUT went Arctic Grey haha
Pink is for girls.
I had the same problem in a 997 carrera S in solid black. Was a 2 day nightmare to correct the scratches and holograms and do a mirror finish. At the end the result was perfect. I did finish with rupes yellow pad and perfect finish than white pad with perfect finish.
cheers from Australia Great channel been watching for years
Hey don’t hate on Rubystone. Although I do agree that Brewster Green suits the Touring much better.
I agree, trashing a classic Porsche color just because YOU don't like and the people who buy it isn't a good look.
@@gtjake3484 I think it was mostly directed at the people who were hating on his color
@@TheMstwntdLMSV123 Oh I know, but better to just ignore it than alienate other owners. There are always going to be people on the internet talking trash about something. No need to feed the trolls here and blanket group Rubystone (Rubystar) owners with replies like that.
Thanks for all the polishing info.
In reference to tinting the windows you said “unfortunately xpel” why is that?
It's not good film. I've had it on 10 cars or so now. It always has bubbles and often lacks clarity.
Matt's reluctance to admit Griots perfect finish being superior on this car is great.
For me, the Mirka is a non-starter without a trigger lock. When you have to hold a trigger like that with your finger, it locks up your arm and causes a lot more fatigue. Also isn't going to be good for guys who have been detailing a long time and already have nerve and joint issues. If they could fix that, they might have something.
Fast Correcting Cream is great stuff (easily one of their best products) but i think The Last Cut compound checks all the same boxes with more cut and better finish.
Maybe good for just spot treatment?
@@555fourthstreet8 I guess, but $800 is pretty steep for a spot polisher.
Matt I don’t detailing for a living. I’m in the market for a small polisher for mainly for my Motorcycle. PXE80 looks better for me. What do you recommend am on a tight budget TY.
I don’t like PXE80. Mirka and RUPES Nano for me.
Protection overkill. Can't wait to see the end result
Are we going to get a video on those cabinets? I need a more budget oriented option and I'm looking for uppers only (garage is too small for lowers and lockers). I just hope they come in grey, white or black. That red is hideous.
This is Max from Friday. Did the battery get charged the next day? Or you are going Anti-gravity?
I'm not sure. I haven't gone over to find out.
@@ObsessedGarage, it will be a nice surprise to see it fully charged tomorrow. best of luck!
That's right I remember you started out using Opti coat...
After being pissed off with Meguiar's I found Griot's a decade later and have been much happier with their polishing creams. Are they the absolute best, probably not. I've been guarding my bottle of M39 and hopefully a replacement is in our future. Hey Matt have you got a chance to try Doctor G's fifth iteration of ONR yet? I'd love to see your impression. I heard Opticoat No Rinse was also released out in the wild recently too since you mentioned them in this video.
The one think I really like about N914 is that it doesn't leave anything behind. I keep coming back to it.
have you ever thought of using a strong dose of touchless after polishing, to get rid of all the dust in the gaps?
Hey Matt, very interested in that polisher. Unfortunately, it’s a bit expensive but it sure seems awesome. also, curious about the very very red cabinets I guess we’ll see. The touring looks awesome sorry, the paint was such a bitch, but you figured it out You always do,have a great one.
LOL. "Ruby Stone...it's pink!" Even in the 80s we didn't want it unless you are Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice.
Oh dear… I urge you to try Menzerna 400 with Rupes Yellow wool and then followed by Koch Chemie yellow with Rupes yellow foam. Don’t take my word for it.
I used FG400 many years ago. It’s pretty toxic since they changed the chemical formula. Jescar is better.
You should have given Jason Rose a call for help.... he is a genius!
Nice work. I hope the PPF guys don’t wipe it down with alcohol prep after you Coat it.
I was going to buy the Mirka polisher few months ago after watching ScottHD video but than learned its all made in China. It just didnt sit well with me knowing $850 polisher thats premium but made in china.
I'm telling you man. It doesn't matter where that thing is made. It's awesome.
Matt for future Paint correction consider Menzerna Polish from Germany.
Dang it that Polisher Matty DANG IT....
Can the Mirka be outfitted with a 5” backing plate too?
No, 3" only.
Did you get any gentleman seats yet?
Ha, ha... That's a no. Justin Placek leather inserts were $6,000. I think I'll leave them alone.
@@ObsessedGarage Dang... That's Duke Moreman of Lady Lake spec.
That sux to hear about the paint issues.
When I was young working at a dealership, new cars for a while were coming in with horrific paint issues.
We were guessing they were shipping the cars with too fresh soft paint and the diesel exhaust was in-bedding into the paint during transport.
Loved the pink car jokes big time Matt...I was LMAO!
Note: that Testosterone as been reduced by 50% in the last 20 years or less due to endless endocrine disruptors and then there is Atrazine on top of that...
let me know when the mirka is in the store. thanks.
I always liked my focal woofers but the tweeters were too harsh, i ended up doing hertz silk dome tweeters with the focal woofers and it was pretty awesome.
May be have a look at tian coatings Matt
When is the next LZ compound video going to be coming? I'm really looking forward to that project.
Probably won’t be awhile since LZ is in Japan
Matt realizing that if the car isn't blue or white it's hard to detail lol
Keep up the GT3 videos! Awesome spec!
Curious your thoughts on Xpel Fusion Plus ceramic coating, since you plan on using Xpel PPF?
It’s not great. I found it didn’t add much to the PPF look or feel.
About two months ago I found some M101 sitting on the shelf at an Advanced auto here in Sacramento believe it or not, I should of grabbed it....Dang it...
Matt, it’s 6am on the West Coast! 😅
Dude. I am polishing my new (CPO) 992 CS that came with some moderate swirls. This has been the worst, and I mean, worst experience polishing in my life.
hey Matt, you should try The Last Cut and Polish Angel (High Gloss) you wont regret it. You can thank me later.
Give it away
Why did Meguiars stop making the M39? It seems to be a killer product!
is there any clear coat left?
Plenty
Aw Matt. You REALLY need to get rid of the orange side markers. They look really bad. Clear ones will transform the car.
Ha, ha... I know man. I have them.
Which pad did you use with Griots garage fast correcting cream?
RUPES White and Yellow microfiber
I can't wait for the experiment with the Opti-Coat Pro 3 under the PPF. The amount of crap people talked on that facebook post was amazing.
Does OPT still tout Opti-Coat as a permanent coating? I remember years back with their Pro version they described the science that it actually became a part of the clearcoat and wasn't removable. Would suck if the experiment went south and this was still the case. There'd still be the coating I guess.
The Opti-Coat Pro coatings are awesome, and yes they pretty much need to be sanded off. Good news is that slickness is not their strong suit, so the PPF shouldn't have any issues sticking.
Dane from TRC had Opti-Coat Pro+ on a Jaguar he used to own, he later did a vinyl wrap on it and they didn't have any problems.
I’m surprised you didn’t try to use Heavy Cut from Koch Chemie Matt
Your are obsessed!
Curious why you don’t use any AMMO NYC products. He has a wheel coating.
I visited them back in I think it was 2016 or 17. None of them were best in class.
@@ObsessedGarage Figured that. Thank you!
Isn't it preferable to have hard paint? Because that way it holds up to scratching better, even if it's harder to polish. My RX-7 has soft paint and it scratches if you look at it wrong.
Hard paint scratches easier.
Agree 100% with you about Rubystone. Bright colors are cool, but not pink. Yellow, orange, blue, even the highlighter green Porsche makes is okay, but RS just isn't it
Are you selling your stock bose speakers?
With all this work I hope it's getting PPF
whelp, should have waited lol...
Protection.
Do you watch White Detail videos? He always used microfiber pads with that diamond 3000 (can’t remember the brand) but seems to get great cutting results with that on Porsches. You should explore that brand he uses..
I would guess you are talking about Cartec? Great products but they are very professional oriented and staying under the radar for weekend warriors and such. And they are not on the US market.
@@966alexa yep, Cartec, that’s the one. Thanks!
Bigamart will ship Cartec 3000 to the US.
Leave them windows cracked just a bit to help with that off-gassing of the interior.
I would think Griots polish is probably cut with propylene glycol instead of mineral spirits.
How are you happy with xpel film finish is beyond me
Green is far from my favorite car color but Matt is right, who the heck wants a pink car? Only a girl that likes Barbie LOL. That was great.
Guess the tommyfyeah groups been drinking the budlight 😂
Why not put Dynaudio in it?
I just want play and play.
When does the 997 giveaway start?
June 2nd
35hrs for just part of the car? Wouldn’t necessarily say 1” is that much more aggressive than 3”. I mean you can get the same amount of cut from 3”
No, on dual action, the smaller the pad, the more aggressive. It’s opposite with a rotary.
@@ObsessedGarage yeah sorry. I mean yes, overall 1” is more aggressive, but it’s not like you wouldn’t be able to accomplish that sort of cut with 3”. That’s what I meant to say. Was surprised you didn’t just go with rupes lhr75 since the 15mm throw would have easily flattened it out for you. Wanted to ask if we will be getting another video showing the actual process and what you did?
My dad had a 991.2 Touring in Brewster Green and its a horrible color to maintain
Matt you’re going to hate me but I’m gonna be getting my new Porsche soon and I’m not doing any PPF this time. I actually miss having raw paint..the PPF has become a pain in the butt because when rocks hit the PPF you can’t get it out..
You’d rather it hit your perfect paint instead ? Isn’t that what P.P.F is for? Better to redo the P.P.F on one panel than have to repaint the car and try to match it.
Living a day in your shoes gives me anxiety.
Haha Matt Farah
That sounds like an electric medical device
👍
🤙👍🇬🇧racing 🇩🇪💚
You guys on glue? Get out of here 😂
I figured that you would know this but maybe not. Like 70% or better of car care companies come from the same manufacturer. Proof is in the juice your were getting similar results from several products. The body shop introduced me to brand I had never heard in my 8 years of detailing. At first what is brand why trying to be a knockoff. After I used the product a couple of times with average results I decided to research the brand at home. Come to find out they source all their ingredients to make their abrasive powders that make all of their compounds and polishes. They are a us based company and their success is due one chemist that designs all of their from soap all the way up to ceramic. Back to their compounds and polishes I found after my research that if used their as recommended I had great results. Most companies the old 3-4 dime size blobs on your pad and not this company the recommend that you be very liberal because that is where the abrasive tech is. The also make a real all in one polish that works on most vehicles with in reason. And they make one of kind foam pads they call spider pads. The pads spread open holding more product delivering a bigger pass and the best cutting foam pad I've ever used. The brand is called 3D which is why I judged them as knockoff brand like as I'm sure many others have. I recommend you check them out I think you'll be suprised.
3D is pretty common. I've used/had several of their products and polishes. It's okay. Some people really like it.
😂😂😂
Maybe if you used a dam rotary you wouldn’t spend 35 hours on half the car man. Paint is hard because that’s what happens to Euro clear when freshly painted and sitting for a few months. Some 3000,5000 grit would of been your best friend if you knew what you were doing. There’s sand scratches from the body shop who painted that Porsche because it’s production in and out make money quick is the goal quality is out the door with all new vehicles.
Also how the hell do you sell angel wax products and you aren’t using them on the Porsche lol find that quite odd
Do you even drive that car , a 200K plus car just gets detailed and sits in garage , such a freaking waste of money
I haven’t driven it yet. This car won’t do many miles.
@ObsessedGarage why did you buy it ? Is it a jewelry?
@@Bosszl23 He likes to look at it, I have one I don't drive
Rambling on video..... ;-(
No, I'm just talking.
You definitely should of gotten the carbon roof. It’s looks so good.
He did a Paint to Sample Car. Why not get as much paint as possible?
@@Captainjaciv because it Carbon..lol
