9:37 THIS is why Cody and Kenobi are my 2 favorite characters, i relate to this so much, whenever i play an RTS game i always look at my units like real people with real lives, never sending them to their deaths needlessly, each squad, each unit is vital, i'm playing carefully even if takes me several hours longer to finish a battle. Maybe all of this sounds cringe but thats just how i am.
6:18 yet again both understood in both situations that losing the commander or general would cause huge problems for the current situation and later on in the war. So it could be seen as a tactical move as well.
4:44 This tactic is actually against international Law, not to mention a bad precedent to set. One of the key reasons the U. S. Cavalry took no quarter when fighting the Sioux and Cheyanne came because those tribes had a history of not honoring a flag of truce, nor surrender. They had on several occasions flown a white flag, then attacked during the supposed cease fire~ having taken that time to reorganize troops, just as Obiwan did here. So the cavalry no longer trusted nor accepted surrender in battle. What happens to the next group who try to surrender? The enemy will only see it as a trick.
I always saw Cody’s quick and immediate response to Order 66 as an example of just how STRONG the Inhibitor Chips were. If Cody went from 0-60 so quickly then you know it’s big time bad news across the board.
One thing you didn't mention, but I think is worth bringing up. The Clones at the beginning of the war have been force-aged (Not _The-Force_ ) so they are physically adult, but they are still only, what? Ten years old?? It is shown that the Kiminoans see them as _a product_ rather than as _fully human_ or _fully sentient beings._ These _Jedi_ were among the _First_ (mostly) _Human Adults_ they had interacted with other than some of them seeing Jango Fett now and again, _(but somehow I don't get the feeling Jango was much for fraternizing with the clones, other than Boba)._ Do you remember the first adult who paid you positive attention you weren't kin to as a young teen?
It was implied back before the TV shows that the Contingency Orders were drilled deep and hard into the clones and those that didn't comply were killed. I can see pre-inhibitor that most clones would have followed the order by reflex and only those super close to their jedi would hesitate. But remember the clones were bred and trained for obedience and most clones wouldn't have had much contact with the jedi. Between the Jedi Code demanding a lack of attachment, that the Jedi were so few that some clones probably spent their entire lives never even seeing the face of their Jedi General and that some Jedi used their clones with no more regard to their lives? Yeah, I could see most clones following the orders without issue.
8:56 Well, we know that when Order 66 dropped, all clones could see what they were doing, but couldn't stop themselves. 12:52 I honestly agree. We need to see them talk. I think that would break me emotionally, but damn would it be nice. I don't think it's likely to happen, but I can hope.
I imagine Ki Adi Mundi's clone troopers just chilling saying how they have wanted to do that for ages jk. Meanwhile Plo Koon's troopers are completely dispondent.
I’ve said this somewhere else but I’ll say it again. A unforeseen side effect that the Kaminoians didn’t account for, the evaluation of their clones. The inhibitor chips might have worked on most for a time but I think it is whirring off and they are waking up.
Y’know, I always hated the blur they left us with as to what happened with Cody after ROTS, even though we did get some insight as to where he was in TFU II. I’m just glad the Bad Batch is filling in the blanks.
Personally, i do like that they changed his story from Canon where he just accepts his fate and serves in the Empire, even though he does not like it. Yes, its a stark divergence from Legends, but i think from a human standpoint its much more interesting how some more empathetic clones like him deal with the knowledge of Order 66 and how life for them is changing. My personal hope is that maybe they revive the story from legends with Kal Skirata and his haven for clones who defect from the empire.
i think the Jerdi generals that basically throw away their clones life were not thinking ahead - to replace each clone takes them NINE years - the droids can be built in the thousands each day - so throwing their lives away is just poor managing of your resources (aside from the lives lost and the cost for training and replacing a soldier) But as you have pointed out (and the jedi also point out) they are not generals or even battlerfield trained.
Cody: You have become the very thing you swore to destroy Crosshair: Don’t lecture me Cody I see through the lies of the Jedi. I have brought peace, justice and security to my new Empire. Cody: Crosshair my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!
I really like the dichotomy of Cody's character from legends and canon. It really makes his character that much better even if they're technically separate. I REALLY want to know what happens to him after this point. Will he join Rex and the bad batch? Will he be in kenobi S2? Will he join the clone rebellion? Will he pull a Maul and track obi down to beg for forgiveness? There's so many things and I want to know all of them.
i know he was meant to originally appear in obi-wan season 1, so i hope he survives long enough through the bad batch to appear in obi-wan season 2 so his story can come full circle
Order 66. There is synergy in liking both Star Wars and Star Trek, and one of my favourite channels, EC Henry, actually does both Star Wars and Star Trek content.
I never really got why people always assumed Cody would be loyal to the empire. Like, yes he was a loyal soldier of the republic however he's a loyal soldier with morals. He thinks before he acts, he has compassion and is shown to very much care for obi-wan and his brothers, like in the clones wars tv show as well as the comics. I don't necessarily blame people for interpreting him that way either though when taking into account his apparent fate in legends and the fact that a lot of star wars fans might not have read the comics or watched the animated shows. Personally, I think this was a perfect route to take his character and whether or not you agree with me, I think we can all just be glad that Cody is finally making a prominent appearance again. Hopefully he gets the canon ending he deserves ❤
I don't really think that the idea of the inhibitor chip 'wearing off" is believable. They have been the the heads of the clones since before they were decanted. Why would they all the sudden start to stop working? I also do not think that the Caminoans would make chips that would just "wear off." They were very precise and proud of their work.
Q: What kind of person does horrible things? A: A Horrible Person. Many a clone, in the present of the Bad Batch, are descending inside that shell of a misleading question and answer to reason out why they turned so readily, so instinctively, so instantly, on the commanders they held in such high regard. It is the driving force behind their more jerky personas. Cody has rejected the answer, but he still has the question, and that will not leave him. Learning of the chip (if he does not already know) would be a relief to him.
I really want them to talk about the chips more. As far as we’re aware, the only real view we’ve gotten into the chips’ effects post Order 66 was that Commander Grey comic, which is sorta non canon now ever since S1E1 of TBB.
I one hundred percent think Cody feels like crap about betraying his friend. Hopefully Rex tells him everything wich I think will kinda ease the pain of guilt.
I don’t think Cody can regret doing something he had no choice in. It’s not like the inhibitor chip asked if it would be cool to murder these monks they just did. I believe Cody is simply mournful towards the Jedi and sees himself as outgrowing this new Empire.
"Would it have been too much to ask for the order to have come through before I gave him back the bloody lightsaber . . . ?” -Commander Cody (Revenge of the Sith Novel)
I want the actor who plays the clones to show up in kenobi season 2 and its tgere first reunion and he breaks down in tears, kenobi firgives him, then he becomes a supporting charecter in that show
I wonder what Canon and Legends Cody would say to each other if they met? Legends Cody stayed on to train stormtroopers, even made an entry grumbling about the quality of recruits.
In theory the flag of truce is already in the dumpster when the diplomat is under duress. So for this and only this time i am justifying Obi. Loving your channel
I feel like Cody is going to die, saving rex and the bad batch, while also possibly dealing a heavy blow to the early empire. I feel this because he's gonna meet up with rex, rex will tell him about the chips and how they're just pawns in palpatines war, and realized he didn't have control when he ordered to shoot kenobi. And since he's not in rebels he's bound to die I think, along with the bad batch.
Cody has been my favorite clone yeah i hope this wasn't his only appearance it seems the Bad Batch is building towards the Clone Rebellion from Legends
Great video. The BB episode 3 was a cut above. Don't get me wrong - the others are fun star wars content. But EP3 - was a more mature story, where we got to see what made andor so good - characters. thanks for the video.
Listening back to this video made me realize just how important the TK program was. The clones would only work for so long until the clones reject the empire.
Here's the thing. Questioning the order actually makes no sense. We want it because it provides complexity to characters that had a light switch flip. The switch doesn't flip back unless it gets removed. So it's stretching the truth a little thin to have clones question the order. I like the idea of ambiguity & questioning but in terms of how the characters are written - for what they DID? With no qualms they went from fighting side by side to not giving a second thought to murder. I'd love for clones to question but in the end, it makes little sense to regret. For all purposes, these are programmed computers.
most of them probably didnt realize they were under control of the chip, or dindt even needed the chip. i think it is the general procedure of the empire, which conflicts more and more with their morals as honorable soldiers (like faking reports, or breaking promises immediatley like in codys situation, which shows that the empire isnt as loyal and therefore trustworthy as they may thought, which then makes them question the order eventually. As i understand the chip makes them do specific order which were all encoded into their brain but doesnt change their core values as soldiers that are better then droids, but correct me if i m wrong
To answer the question of the title of this video, I'd say Kenobi and the rest of the Jedi are the ones who should feel guilty for everything that has happened! You literally had an incident on Ringo Vinda as a warning, plus 5s risking it all just to be heard! And the Jedi made nothing of his sacrifice.. Like I already said on this channel, Yoda, "passively" surrounded the galaxy to the Sith because the light was too dominant and so creating imbalance.. Yoda brainwashed the entire order all these years long, telling them to just, "trust in the force" while shit was happening all around.. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't put the blame on the Clones or the Separatists for that matter.
Kenobi capturing the seperatist commander maks 0 sense though, 1 the jedi were diplomats for generations at that point, they were well versed in that role and a flag of truce is sacred for straightforward reasons, betray it once and your oponent wil never again agree to parley, same with Anakin ramming a venator into an enemy lucrehulk, the dude did so under a white flag, the jedi betrayed the most simple rules of diplomacy, they broke what is essentially intergalactic laws and codes to steal a quick victory, the confederacy somehow didnt really do that, they comitted more atrocities but still they didn't betray diplomatic law
It's not like he had a choice in the matter, it's like taking a back seat while someone else commits the act. With the clones slowly coming to realise the order was dishonest. It's also why the empire wanted them gone is because there's a order to take out the emperor. It's a huge liability when someone can just boardcsst the order to them
kenobi still loves the clones when he was in that one city you can see a drunk homeless 501st clone just doing nothing and kenobi is just watching him in horror cause kenobi knows what he empire is doing
Again, who else is happy that Codey did not appear in the Rebels series? After all, he was originally going to appear as an antagonist in one episode. But in the final version, he was edited out of the episode completely.
Oh I'm sure he does because throughout the 3 years of the Clone Wars Commander Cody and Obi Wan became best Friends and established a great working relationship and worked well together but Remember Cody is a Clone Soldier bred to be loyal to the Republic not the Jedi and to take any order without question and hesitation whether its good bad or worse even going far as Genocide and to kill anyone with stream prejudice whoever has the slightest hesitation of treachery
Cody is my favourite character in star wars don't really know why maybe because he was the first named clone trooper but i just immediately connected with him. Love kenobi too which might be the reason i like Cody.
I’m not sure which narrative I enjoy more, this new clone that has heart and is empathetic or the emotionless killing machines that were always meant to be seen as stormtrooper precursors that we got back during episode III’s release.
Personal theory: Using the force is two sides to the same coin. Independent sides, both different, but sharing many similarities as well as differences. Like drawing to deeply in the dark side will cause disfiguration (either from constant use, or from the universe falling in line to liberate you from your lower jaw or ability to breath). So, then, what would be the penalty for a Jedi drawing too deeply in the light (like Obi-Wan escaping that hole, and beating Vader)? The dark side disfigures, the light side ages It's what makes long lived species of alien (Yoda, Wookies, that one Hutt) particularly powerful Jedi. They've got years to burn. It's why Obi-Wan ages so drastically in the relatively short time between fighting Vader and setting Luke on his path.
Cody is a truly special clone, one who is overpowering his chip's control as time goes on, even maintaining special designs and his armour/equipment layout, when many other clones simply went default, white with standard armour/equipment. It seems all those clones who maintain colour or customization, seem to be less effected by the chip, having some sort of their own choice in things, could use Howzer as an example in Season 1 of the Bad Batch. I have always hated Cody's future in Legends, where he remained under the chips influence and went on to live a boring life training future storm troopers. I am quite excited to see how Cody's Canon story will develop, as I always hoped he would walk away from the empire, and maybe help fight against them. Here is hoping we see more of Cody in the coming episodes of The Bad Batch and not simply be done with him now, since there is so much more we want to know about Cody and what he will do now that he went AWOL.
I agree. I think a Kenobi season 2 reunion with Cody would be a powerful storyline. Perhaps giving Cody a chance to redeem himself in his own perception and bring him peace.
There needed to be a “come round full circle” event for the clones. We should have seen them destroy the empire from without. It would have been cathartic.
If Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars miniseries taught me anything, it was that Cody was/is a stand up guy! And that he and Kenobi had had each other’s deep respect!
That was weird getting a StR Trek Game sponsor in a Star Wars video lol. But I think k ill stick to Final Fantasy 14 and Star trek online lol but fleet command looks kool AF
I’m sure he does regret it, even if that order 66 branded Kenobi as a traitor he was still his friend, it doesn’t make the pain of losing him any better it just runs the order and the words “good soldiers follow orders” through his mind every time he tries to work against the chip. And we saw his influence as the negotiator on his friend as he Cody attempted to negotiate and diplomatically resolve a solution instead of just gunning his opponent down we saw how Kenobi’s influence had on his friend turned him into a better bitter Clone stuck serving the Empire. If that wretched tumor in his head was not there and Cody was given a chance and a choice to go AWOL and just leave the empire he would’ve taken that chance. But be at as it may because of the tumor he has no choice, he even complained about the difference between a droid and a clone is that they could think independently but now with this control chip the distinction between the two of them no longer seems as broad as much as it is now blurred. Just like the droid armies they fought and faced have been shut down and no longer produced the clone factories on Kamino have been destroyed and no more clones are being made or produced they’re outdated and old phased
I always thought Cody would’ve made for a way more interesting antagonist in the Kenobi show. Yeah I mean Darth Vader is always great to see but like…. He was such an obvious choice for the villain I wish we saw something a little more unique like having Cody be the villain
I think this proves my belief that the inhibitor chips are starting to fail or the clones are adapting to their influence. we saw it with captain Howzer and half his men and now with Cody. it was stated earlier in the episode some cones are starting to go awol and question their orders. This takes place about what, a year and change after order 66 was initiated, and all the clones were completely brainwashed and obedient at the time it was ordered. but I don't think the chips were designed to function long term after order 66 is activated. just long enough for palatine to have all or most of the jedi killed and have the clones secure his rule over the galaxy without question long enough to rebuild the republic army into his vision of the imperial army. Now that expiration date on the chips is rearing its head, the chips aren't as effective, and a bunch of the clones are slowly but surely gaining their senses back and questioning wether what they did and what they’re doing is right?

9:37 THIS is why Cody and Kenobi are my 2 favorite characters, i relate to this so much, whenever i play an RTS game i always look at my units like real people with real lives, never sending them to their deaths needlessly, each squad, each unit is vital, i'm playing carefully even if takes me several hours longer to finish a battle. Maybe all of this sounds cringe but thats just how i am.
Same dude😂😂
Rex and Cody have aspects they learned from their generals.
6:18 yet again both understood in both situations that losing the commander or general would cause huge problems for the current situation and later on in the war. So it could be seen as a tactical move as well.
"Yeah, regular folk don't understand. Sometimes in war, it's hard to be the one that survives." -- CC-2224 "Cody"
You're 💯% correct.
It is shown that the Kiminoans see them as _a product_ rather than as _fully human_ or _fully sentient beings._
These _Jedi_ were among the _First_ (mostly) _Human Adults_ they had interacted with other than some of them seeing Jango Fett now and again, _(but somehow I don't get the feeling Jango was much for fraternizing with the clones, other than Boba)._
Do you remember the first adult who paid you positive attention you weren't kin to as a young teen?
He got a Star Trek sponsor for a Star Wars video. What a madlad.
My personal hope is that maybe they revive the story from legends with Kal Skirata and his haven for clones who defect from the empire.
i think the Jerdi generals that basically throw away their clones life were not thinking ahead - to replace each clone takes them NINE years - the droids can be built in the thousands each day - so throwing their lives away is just poor managing of your resources (aside from the lives lost and the cost for training and replacing a soldier)
But as you have pointed out (and the jedi also point out) they are not generals or even battlerfield trained.
considering that they showed the aftermath of Serenno, I really hope they touch on the subjection of Utapau in Bad Batch
Cody: You have become the very thing you swore to destroy
Crosshair: Don’t lecture me Cody I see through the lies of the Jedi.
Canon Cody and Legends Cody are two very different clones
I don't know what's the greater betrayal: Order 66 or a Star Wars channel having a Star Trek ad
Agreed!
I know right
Definitely caught me by surprise
Well Captain Rex felt upset about the same situation aswell.
In legends, wasn't Cody training stormtroopers under the Empire? I could've sworn there was an entry like that in the SWTFU game
Yea and he was eventually experimented on and augmented to become the first batch of dark troopers
@@ARandomSpecOp You sure that Cody did not died when Starkiller (Clone) has escaped?
@@fa11endawn16 if he did then maybe he was somehow recovered in the wreckage. Either way, our boy went thru some pain :’(
@@ARandomSpecOp Yeah :( Hope that Cody appears at Obi-Wan Season 2...
@@fa11endawn16 either him or a live action Rex on the Ahsoka show. I just wanna see more tem as clones in action
I think Palpatine knew, that clones will not be loyal forever after Order 66 and that was one of the reasons behind creating Stormtroopers
If you see this have a great day
You too
*Gonk*
I one hundred percent think Cody feels like crap about betraying his friend. Hopefully Rex tells him everything wich I think will kinda ease the pain of guilt.
I don’t think Cody can regret doing something he had no choice in. It’s not like the inhibitor chip asked if it would be cool to murder these monks they just did. I believe Cody is simply mournful towards the Jedi and sees himself as outgrowing this new Empire.
Her Jedi jumping and running abilities must of been on coffee break to just stand there and get shot
"Would it have been too much to ask for the order to have come through before I gave him back the bloody lightsaber . . . ?”
-Commander Cody (Revenge of the Sith Novel)
I want the actor who plays the clones to show up in kenobi season 2 and its tgere first reunion and he breaks down in tears, kenobi firgives him, then he becomes a supporting charecter in that show
I think that Cody is unfortunately gonna get killed this season
That's what basically happens in the older scrapped Obi-Wan Kenobi script
When I was a bit younger and watched Cmmdr Cody obey order 66 I was Horrified It devastated me as a Person who trusted someone
That scene was heartbreaking 💔. Order 66 brought rears to my eyes! 😮😢😢
I don't think he will meet with Captain Rex, particularly because of the PTSD scene with Captain Rex in starwars rebels
That Obi-wan warcrime thing was such a bugs bunny move man
Cody has been my favorite clone yeah i hope this wasn't his only appearance it seems the Bad Batch is building towards the Clone Rebellion from Legends
Great video. The BB episode 3 was a cut above. Don't get me wrong - the others are fun star wars content. But EP3 - was a more mature story, where we got to see what made andor so good - characters.
thanks for the video.
4:38 ahhh yes the unorthodox way of winning a battle through war crimes, a jedi special very effective
Listening back to this video made me realize just how important the TK program was. The clones would only work for so long until the clones reject the empire.
Or just to sum it up… yes
Excellent vid. Thank you for this.
Cody meant to MISS Obie Wan when he shot at him and his lizzard during Order 66... Clones dont miss like Storm troopers !
Kenobi capturing the seperatist commander maks 0 sense though, 1 the jedi were diplomats for generations at that point, they were well versed in that role and a flag of truce is sacred for straightforward reasons, betray it once and your oponent wil never again agree to parley,
same with Anakin ramming a venator into an enemy lucrehulk, the dude did so under a white flag,
the jedi betrayed the most simple rules of diplomacy, they broke what is essentially intergalactic laws and codes to steal a quick victory, the confederacy somehow didnt really do that, they comitted more atrocities but still they didn't betray diplomatic law
I was happy to have seen him, and even more happy that he left the Empire.
Is it just me or was the episode with Cody and crosshairs better than all the episodes with the rest of the bad batch?
Ah, Fives. RIP, my friend.
How many times will Dave Filoni save Star Wars & bolster the canon material? ♥️♥️
Again, who else is happy that Codey did not appear in the Rebels series? After all, he was originally going to appear as an antagonist in one episode. But in the final version, he was edited out of the episode completely.
It's kinda funny how the galaxy far far away doesn't look too dark but then when you take a closer look it's sometimes almost grimdark.
Oh, I interpreted that episode as crosshair killing Cody off-screen.
I’m not sure which narrative I enjoy more, this new clone that has heart and is empathetic or the emotionless killing machines that were always meant to be seen as stormtrooper precursors that we got back during episode III’s release.
a simples answer : yes
Personal theory:
Using the force is two sides to the same coin.
The dark side disfigures, the light side ages
It's what makes long lived species of alien (Yoda, Wookies, that one Hutt) particularly powerful Jedi.
What if Bounty Hunter Durge had a count of midichlorical blood cells one hundred points higher then The Skywalker liner of vessels?
I dont think a reunion with bad batch, but definitely Obi Wan. That would be satisfying. Wish we got that in the obi wan show.
No regerts -- Commander Cody
Cody was also trained by mandos Warriors (mercenary whatever.), he's like beskar, forged into a great man
Obi-wan kenobi: "good man that cody."
I agree. I think a Kenobi season 2 reunion with Cody would be a powerful storyline. Perhaps giving Cody a chance to redeem himself in his own perception and bring him peace.
Generation Tech: Has a Star Trek sponsor in a Star Wars video
Me: Your tactics frighten and confuse me sir
I don't know the official lore, but it would awesome to include CC to show up on Tatooine and have him be Obi Wan's bodyguard till the day he died.
There needed to be a “come round full circle” event for the clones. We should have seen them destroy the empire from without. It would have been cathartic.
Thanks!
If Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars miniseries taught me anything, it was that Cody was/is a stand up guy!
And that he and Kenobi had had each other’s deep respect!
If there is a Obiwan season 2. We need to see them reunite and fight together
Poor commander Cody, I hope he got to shitpost more on his future seiges
great takes
I always thought Cody would’ve made for a way more interesting antagonist in the Kenobi show. Yeah I mean Darth Vader is always great to see but like…. He was such an obvious choice for the villain I wish we saw something a little more unique like having Cody be the villain
Love your stuff!
Well, the doubts have been mounting on him since the war ended and the events of that planet confirmed them.
