- Today we start a big MLB The Show 23 Franchise series with the Oakland Athletics. The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.
On my MrHurriicaneLP channel I make sports gaming lets play series. My series focus on building teams and players from sports like baseball and football. I play games such as Madden 23, NCAA Football 14, MLB The Show 23 and more.

“It is snowing in Oakland” was such a great line lol
Totally. It was iconic !
@@SirCullensChannel iconic is probably a tad hyperbolic but it was a funny line.

CPU in this game has solid draft logic. They will take someone who is further down the board if they have a high scout grade on him. I've seen prospects mlb rankings in the 40s-50s be taken top 5, So if you want that Center fielder take him at your first spot, he looks like he could be a generational player who are 70+ ovr with 99 potential, so could be a great first pick.
Honestly it might be worth looking at triple a rosters and looking at starters that are like 28-30 years old and low to mid 70s or maybe even the high 60s for a couple 4.50 ERA guys just to hold the big league team down, weather they’re starters or bullpen guys. That way your team just isn’t so terrible you stunt the growth of your youngsters
One fun little thing I found,San Francisco's Splash Hit counter is actually Dynamic, when I started my Giants franchise it was at 97,I got a Walk off home run with Pederson that went into McCovey Cove, and next game the counter was at 98.
That's why I love The Show
At this rate, they may have to settle for a season goal of not having more losses than runs scored.
You'll have to boost potential manually. If a player had c or lower potential if they performed well then I usually gave them a 3pt boost to their potential. Developing a threshold will keep this kind of system in check. Thanks for the great content cane
I like the idea of speeding this series along. maybe hit the offseason in 3 to 4 more episodes, then once the team has your fingerprints on it more slow the seasons down :)
I agree. There's no reason to take it this slow to start considering most of the people in the org currently won't be in it in a couple years in game. One or two more episodes for the season is enough I think for most people. Move onto the offseason and start the rebuild properly.
Aaron Donn is a great player he will be a base pad menace and get on base constantly. Keep in mind if he is Number 1 on your board other teams will see him similarly any team that scouts him will think of him as someone they should grab as early as 1 even so if he is there at 3 and you think he is the best prospect do not hesitate to take him because other teams won't hesitate to.
When I rebuilt the As Laurence butler won a gold glove for right field in year one. He also had a solid average and power. I’m excited to see how he comes along in this series
He’s balling for me too. Called him up in June and he finished second in ROTY in the AL. Love his size/speed combo
these hour long franchise videos are just what i needed
ok, the potential on some of these guys are just awful. like i get it MLB the show doesn’t really focus on the MILB guys but like cmon. try a little harder lol
Yeah I feel like he should’ve at least used some user community updated rosters
@@Underfly1 definitely agree. but he was probably just not in a waiting mood and was ready for the challenge lol
The show’s roster is absolutely garbage
@@ChampagneRi the main guy from Ridin Rosters is now working for them so hopefully we will see some improvement soon
@@Underfly1 what’s a good community roster
I don’t know how other people would feel about this, but if you’re seeing a player vastly outplay their potential… I think you should go in and change it. Potential shouldn’t be set in stone.
Agreed
Agreed
I've been waiting for this! I have been watching how the A's play and considering them for my franchise team. I'm waiting for the roster update though
Martinez its a little white thing it looks like a house lol
If u haven’t scouted them 100 percent it doesn’t matter if the ranking is lower than mlbs u have to scout them fully to see the full potential
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE! LFG! 0:35 in and that is the most "Athletic's" thing that can happen LOL
this series is awesome it makes me genuinely feel like I can’t wait for the next episode awesome stiff keep it coming!
I scout position about 80% of the time and 20% on specific prospects. I get multiple A potential players each draft this way.
Found your channel just by randomly looking up mlb rebuilds and I gotta say I love your content these videos are very good I really like the way you announce the games it makes it so much more intense. Please keep up the good work
Loved this episode and love this series thank you
The Show somehow managed to get the Yankees strike out noise wrong lol I wonder if its copyrighted or something and they don't have the rights for it. Also the fact they had IKF leadoff is hilarious
I really like your idea of focusing in and focusing on once big series and not stretching it out so long. I struggle to stay focused on series over time.
Love seeing former Oklahoma Sooners QB Cody Thomas make an appearance even if he’s hurt lol 14:40
I love the PC Richards and son sound. My favorite, no bias what's so ever. So unbiased
Hi Cane, Been watching your channel sense Madden 19 with the Arizona Cardinals and was the guy who made everyone Rally against Gino Harris (Episode 39 of the Houston Texans series) and helped bring in greatest backup QB in channel history William Linsley to be HC
Anyways, I have been thinking for AAA Las Vegas to get a New Stadium that is a smaller yet similar replica to the stadium you are making for the Oakland Athletics
"it is snowing in oakland" was an all time call lmaoooo that was hilarious
Don't be afraid to manually edit the potential of some guys - it doesn't kill immersion as a viewer at all - if a prospect has a great year then he SHOULD get a potential boost
Never could ever get into mlb franchise untill this series and I played ball growing up 😭
At least Adam oller is being decent as a pitcher in the game cause he hits a era over 10😂
Been checking over and over for a new episode 🙏
Instead of going through the player lock option you can hit play full game, pick the theme and then go to substitutions in the pause menu and player lock from there. Might be a workaround if you’re worried about crashing
The opening music from this episode will always take me back to my late childhood and the Browns rebuild
I love your videos! Seeing you upload to this series is always great, keep up the solid work.
Been waiting 4 this 1. Hitting is tuff this yr
Already my favorite series of yours
Hey Cane, just thought I’d shed some light on the potential vs production debate.
I agree that a player’s potential should go up by a little bit, especially if they are only a couple of points away from the next letter grade. However, the purpose of the potential rating is to put a ceiling on a player’s production. For example, an 85 (B) potential player could have a season where they hit .290 with 35 HR’s and steal 25 bases, which would be a stat line you’d expect from a 95 overall player. But that doesn’t mean that player should go up to 92 potential from one good season or even 2-3 good seasons. It would be fair to go up to 88 potential, but those stats are supposed to be that player’s ceiling. Increasing their potential raises that ceiling too much.
Aaron Don might be a generational talent. They’re rare but you know when you have one. They are 18-19 year olds with 99 potential and usually between 79-81 overall.
You might be right. Even if he's not generational, if cane wants Don, he has to pick him at 6. No way he's lasting to his 2nd pick
Let’s go Cane!!
Watch out with that third scout. A bad scout can give inaccurate rating ranges and the true rating can be outside the given range if the scout isn’t very good
Corbin Carol just reached 3rd base on a strikeout the other day. Dude can fly
Loving the series so far Cane. Just one thing I thought I'd ask. Would you ever consider giving more DH ABs to Diaz and/or Aguilar? Could give more playing time to someone like Nick Allen. Also might improve infield defense with Brown playing at first base, his primary position.
Love the videos bro!! Keep it up!
Logging into the app to see a new video from you is like Christmas Morning
I'd take a look at the Guardians rotation around the deadline. Might be able to move someone like Rooker with minor pieces there. Iirc Pleasac, Civale, Quantrill and Josh Naylor are going into arbitration with Bieber in his last year of it.
Not sure if this prospect is in your roster but they also have a 22 year old named Justin Campbell. Campbell is 6'7 supposed to have a plus fastball and change up. Could be fun
Series is lit!
I have loads of time now since I retired, so I moved the A’s to Las Vegas and changed their name to the gamblers. I also play every game but I only do the hitting except for close games in the later innings. Currently 11-4 so far, so cautiously optimistic. I also started some fire sales with most players that are C and D potentials. It’s rough though lol.
Now your seeing how hard it is for all those people who are A’s fans out there. I think picking the A’s for your first franchise in the new game was the perfect choice. Your seeing how much work you need to do, and the limit budget you have, and how bad the farm system is, this will be a good project for you to work on. If you can get the A’s to the playoffs in the 4th or 5th year, I would consider that a win!!!
I definitely think that you would be validated in bumping up Ruiz's stealing stat. He stole EIGHTY FIVE BASES IN 114 GAMES with an 86% success rate. The Show did him dirty
I’m the same way the Yankee strikeout sound I HATE IT. I can deal with a cash register or something but the little whistle I can’t! Also do you use strikezone 3 camera view? I feel it gives the best in terms of presentation and seeing the zone. Love the series!
I think for sure it is worth going fast this season to get to your own team building and not just what is there
I've seen the AI get confused many times like it did at 44:05 but it never fails to crack me up
Also that red icon means he’s a top prospect
This episodes save my life
Just a tip, when you're scouting position it doesn't matter if it is in the gold, silver ou bronze slot (every time you'll get 15% scout increase) ... So, whenever you're scouting 2 positions and 1 specif player, let the player be your gold scout, to maximize it's progression
Lovin this
Poirier has a maximum "pitch control" potential of 63. Not a deal breaker, but at 6 overall he's not worth it. That's probably the most important pitcher attribute for the gsme play settings you use
I know we need Pictchers, but we also need a lot of Bats in this lineup Offense needs some help
See prospects are so much better now , poirier is probably the most mlb ready guy at 70-75 overall he’s probably a 72 with 93 potential if I had to guess and everything’s good except his K/9 which isn’t a big deal really not compared to Walks or hits or even HR , control is a bit scary with him tho but he’s 23 so you gotta start him in the mlb right away which is good he’s gonna have A potential and 72 overall if he plays alright he could be up to a high 70s end of the year and probably your best pitcher going into year 3 , or you go searching for the 18 yr old you think is generational which their might be one but you never know , drafting and scouting is just so much better this year
Hey Cane idk if you’ve ever thought about this, but have you ever thought about trying OOTP? It’s a baseball sim that really puts you in the drivers seat like MLB The Show but way way way more detailed on everything. Considering this is your second channel that would be perfect for something on the side!
Scouting a position gives you 10-15% every week so I think it would be best (especially for SP) to scout the region with the most SP then doing individual assignments on other top guys not in that region
The sound is PC Richards Jingle. PC Richards is like a BestBuy in New York
At 44:05 being thrown out by literally 10 steps is crazy😂
41:40 "why is this 56-overall pitcher bad?"
Potentiel can go up with perfomance, look at the end of the season, your player might have a green arrow next to their potential
Rebuild batting tips: swing at ball 4; take strike 3... Cheers
I'm not sure when would be a good time to start trading some players for prospects but it might be that time. Help build up that farm system a bit now and maybe by next season those guys you traded for will be developed enough to make the MLB roster
Carlos Hernandez is a bullpen arm you should look at, he’s affordable and in the Royals organization. 5 pitch mix with good velocity. Nothing more than an average innings eater, but your roster could use that!
The accuracy for pitchers is affected by not letting the wind up animation finish. I know it takes longer but it makes them more accurate. Stays closer to the rating.
Great point about the potential. I play a lot of FIFA career mode and while it’s extremely flawed one of the things I’m glad they added was dynamic potential. It’s a little too OP but way better than without it. Edit: just wanted to add I’m really enjoying this series so far! Looking forward to the first offseason
The Show has dynamic potential too it just takes a while
An idea I have for my own franchise is maybe set like game targets for a month such as 2 full games 3 player locks and maybe a minor league game, then maybe a month an episode would be a good idea
Tom Bong is a huge need. He'll smoke the competition in no time. Any lazy fly ball will be his.
Gotta play station to station baseball down 5 Cane!
The potential does change if they continue to play at a level above what they should and can fall if they struggle a lot as well.
Connor Capel fields really well but is sitting at DH. Consider moving Seth Brown to 1B and DH’ing Aguilar, then playing Capel in the OF.
as much as i love your franchises for other sports games there's just something about your mlb franchises i love em! a new 2k franchise could be cool not sure if you want to do that though.
i honestly think you should boost butlers potential from the 70s to like the low to mid 80s, he’s one of the A’s top prospects
i would even say the same thing with Jordan Diaz, maybe boost him from a D potential to like a mid C?
24:52 the show does raise players potential when they play better but they have to be playing well for an extended amount of time. If Diaz plays well all season he might be a C potential after the season.
Try to let your pitcher set before going into motion. It really helps with the consistency of your pitches.
I believe players will have their development improve if they preform well, don’t know what the requirements are or when those happen, but I have seen potential improve.
Snowing in Oakland 😂
Any chance you'd do a franchise on FIFA? Love these in-depth franchise series and it would be fun to watch you learn the sport if you aren't familiar with soccer.
As a Yankees fan, I agree that the strikeout jingle is a tish annoying. However, the Vikings blaring horn on third downs while the defense is on the field has to be the most over the top annoying sound in all of sports.
Well, at least the team is on pace for 60 wins. That's better than I expected.
Yankees lookin like they was about to jump you 😆
18:40 I think you should flip ikeda and kaminski. kaminski has high discovery and lower efficiency and ikeda has high efficiency and lower discovery, so you should use kaminski for the wide net and ikeda for the player scouting.
No matter how bad a day is going it’s always a treat to get home and watch a cane video
Despite the new patch, I still had a freeze yesterday even though I was using the regular graphics. No crash notification on this one either, it just plain froze. FTR, I'm playing on Switch because I don't have a PS5
Here are some players you could look at to possibly sign or trade for.
Matt Bush relief pitcher brewers and Daniel bard closing pitcher rockies
We are going to have to be development kings
I just want to see a Red Sox game lol
I think it maybe time to start playing with trading block or at least see what kind of offers u get. Might as well get young talent in and just have a suffering season for the future.
Be careful, the draft order does not closely follow the mlb draft order.
It's not like Madden where the "mocks" are completely accurate. I had a 32 ranked MLB prospect go 3rd overall. You should pick Don 6th, if he's even there
There is a prospect with my name
Jack Williams
So cane PLEASE consider
embrace the tank, finish worse than seattle, get the 1 pick in the draft. 2024 team won’t be much better either so that’ll be another high pick. with 3 years of high draft picks, we will be in position to hopefully catch our division when they are a little older
Let’s go!
In order to increase potential, a player has to have a really good month. Potential and all rating changes happen on a monthly basis, after the first day of the month.
this team reminds me of Kalispell in yr 1
Set up training so you can choose what attributes get a little boost
24:10 I definitely think they nerfed it in general this year, I have a lot of guys with 60-75 speed but stealing in the 10-25 range
I'm actually hype for this I'm a huge money ball fan
Moneyball a good movie
🔥
