FINAL Draft Scouting (We Found a STEAL) - MLB The Show 23 Franchise | Ep.6

  • Today we start a big MLB The Show 23 Franchise series with the Oakland Athletics. The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.
On my MrHurriicaneLP channel I make sports gaming lets play series. My series focus on building teams and players from sports like baseball and football. I play games such as Madden 23, NCAA Football 14, MLB The Show 23 and more.

Don't scout relief pitchers, 90% of relievers are failed starters. You just need to scout starters and the guys who can't cut it starting can still often be good relievers.

    • @tstumpf75
      @tstumpf75 Рік тому +26

Actually, relievers would fit your moneyball theme.. look at relievers in the game.. they all suck. Undervalued even.. dont waste a 1st rounder on a reliever, but building an elite bullpen could be a moneyball theme with these A's..

    • @tootzmcgee7144

I completely agree, and especially with how tight money is going to be in this rebuild. Cane can't afford the luxury of dedicated one inning high leverage pitchers like a closer or setup guy, he needs to build a stable of solid pitchers where losing one guy isn't going to cripple the entire structure. He also needs to maximize a bad farm system and some of those triple A starters would be decent bullpen arms with a bit more development.
Tampa does an amazing job at this kind of bullpen construction.

I just did a draft, and wrote down every player with 90+ potential.
Overall pick #, position, age, current overall, potential
    1, c, 21, 71, 93
    7, 2b, 21, 71, 94
    8, sp, 19, 69, 99
    28, 1b, 18, 57, 90
    34, cp, 18, 65, 91
    43, sp, 18, 59, 91
    74, sp, 20, 59, 94
    98, cf, 22, 58, 94
    127, cf, 22, 52, 91
    162, ss, 18, 55, 98
    169, 2b, 18, 51, 91
There were also a lot of high 80 potentials in every round as well. So you can definitely get great players throughout the draft unlike the old system, which is awesome.

The Japanese Leagues use starters usually only once a week. So some MLB teams have tried to ease Japanese pitchers in by setting a 6 day/man rotation in the first year.

With your free agent pickups, consider front loading contracts. That way, if you give a 28 year old a 3 year contract, and you trade him in year 2 and 3 when his value increased, the money the other team takes on is less.
This helps with value and may also help make more trades. A few years into the franchise some teams are very tight on budget

I hope you live stream the Rule 5 Draft. After your series on those players, I think a lot of us find it exciting.
Please understand that drafting highschoolers is the opposite of Moneyball. Bean's own minor league stats are the perfect example. The goal of the draft isn't to get the most Booms, it's to have the fewest Busts. That way you don't have to waste money on late-20s mediocre or worse free agents just to fill the roster. High floors should be a priority for any team on a tight budget.

The WPA is based on the current situation for the batter and pitcher. Outs, runners on base, inning, and score. It does not take into account what teams are playing. When it says 80% win probability, that means that 80% of the time a team with a 2-0 lead in the top of the 5th will win the game on average based on the average amount of runs scored in a game.

Big draft tip I found out. If you fully scout someone you 100% know how much higher their potential will be than their overall. If their potential range is 75-90 and their overall range is 65-80, their potential will be 10 points higher than their overall. Knowing this now helps me avoid low floor prospects early in the draft.

maybe tweak capels potential? he's playing well and he is only 25 i feel he should have room to improve rather than get worse at only 25

I did my draft yesterday, Reds drafted a 18 year old SS that is an 81 day 1 with 99 potential

As far as the trade deadline, I don’t think anyone on the team has the value to get even a B prospect in return. I think looking for young near mlb level C potentials would be the more realistic trade

You ever thought about switching to dynamic and start it at Hall of Fame difficulty? I know the Tigers are horrible but you’ve put up a lot of runs these past few episodes!

the only problem i have with the way the show does its overall and that stuff is it sometimes makes guys too inconsistent and then it ruins their career. a lot. like some of these guys have a bad year but its not as crazy as they make it. like even a bad year is still a good year for other guys. but it tanks them
