Our #1 Prospect Makes Minor League Debut - MLB The Show 23 Franchise | Ep.12

  • It's Year 2 in the MLB The Show 23 Franchise with the Oakland Athletics. Our first year only saw the team win 56 games with the weakest roster in baseball. After an offseason to overhaul things we welcome veterans to the team that should make us more competitive. At the same time, an impressive draft class from last year should be able to develop and come close to making a major league impact. We're making progress, but how much can we expect to improve in Year 2?
The A's are the toughest team for Franchise mode in MLB The Show this year, with their weak roster, struggling farm system, and the lowest budget in baseball. The rebuild of this team won't be easy. And there aren't many future stars already on the roster. We need to scout, develop, and completely change this team to succeed in the rebuild.
On my MrHurriicaneLP channel I make sports gaming lets play series. My series focus on building teams and players from sports like baseball and football. I play games such as Madden 23, NCAA Football 14, MLB The Show 23 and more.

Yup that's the basic plan. More time will be spent prior to the draft and trade deadline. This year will probably be very similar to Year 1 in terms of structure. We just have more prospects to take a look at this time around.

@@MrHurriicaneLP yeah I think the gameplay focus should be put on the top prospects in the minors and the young players in the show so we can follow their journey more since I would assume 70% of the roster won’t be here in year 4

I think you should grab a couple players with high discipline .. 85+ if possible just to get more guys on base. I like to have at least 3 of those on my roster tire pitchers out and see how good the bullpens are

A general rule of thumb I think you should follow in regards to scouting the bullpen: don't look at CP/RP ranks by themselves, but combine them and find the middle ranking for them combined. That's much more important since you can change their position and that will make it much easier for you

I think, the pacing is exactly right in this episode. You did 3 weeks right? Also loved the mix of showcases, scouting and a featured game. I wouldn't even mind, if you skipped a complete game once in a while in favor of more prospect player locks in AA and AAA.
About Aaron Don, in Road to the Show, it made sense to set fielding opportunities to "all" in order to get every reaction and accurate throw stat. Could we get more out of those player lock games that way? You mentioned thought that Franchise doesn't update ratings for a month or so, even though every game has XP gained. So, I 'm not sure whether it would make a difference.

One thing I have noticed which may not be reliable, A players don’t regress. They should only get better. So if the player is a 58 overall it might be better to have them at A to get positive progression to multiple abilities than have them at AA and possible regress if they struggle

I love watching your videos and I’m enjoying this series more than your other baseball series. I’m not a fan of the A’s, but just the difficulty of this rebuild makes it interesting. I wonder if you’ve ever considered trying to get a player like Brandon Lowe from the Rays. The A’s actually made an offer for him in my season and I’m the Rays. I turned it down though. Anyway, he’s 28 (probably 29 in your franchise now), he’d be an improvement for you at 2nd base, and I believe his salary is only 3-4 million a year.

Never ever scout position. Choose only scouts with high efficiency, pitchers, and position player ratings. I try to have one pitcher specialist and 2 position specialists. Then find players predicted to go near your picks, and scout the guys with the highest potential ranges.
I’ve had draft classes of 6+ A and B potential players this way.
Discovery has no noticeable benefits this year because you get a very large prospect pool to start with plenty of talent. There is no reason to scout positions because you still have to choose very specific criteria for the players. You’re better off getting a high percentage completed on a player that you’re interested in and will have a chance to take.
