Me & my husband both reversed our Prediabetes by eliminating ALL sugar, carbs, and ultra processed foods. Dropped almost 200lbs between us too as well as no more high bp, sleep apnea, or aches & pains we thought were due to our 50something age.
Excellent! Congratulations and please keep up the good work. It's a beautiful thing when a couple or people in a family, or a household, work together on their health and collaborate for living well and living long. Being in your 50's does not mean you have to have aches and pains, high bp, sleep apnea, etc. Yay for both of you!
Thx for sharing. This is encouraging. Im going to do the same thing.

Thank you immensely Dr Yates. I have had type 2 for over 20 years. You confirmed what i knew plays a pivotal role in it being difficult to manage. Stress and Sleep. I refer to it as the Stress disease. My prayer is for the wisdom and strength to eradicate it from my body... Thanks for sharing. I need a physician in my city like you. 😢😅
You are most welcome. Thank you for your kinds words. I am always amazed that other doctors and health professionals don't spend more time educating patients about the effects of stress and poor sleep. They really wreak havoc and some of us are more susceptible to this damage than others. Take care.

Good information for diabetes care and fir people with high blood pressure. I advocate 5 vegetables per day and it helps stave off diabetes and makes the person feel better.
Thanks for your feedback. Eating more vegetables, especially leafy greens, is optimal for overall health.
Thank you for this added vital info.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and foods containing oil cause flare up of the inflammation.
What is your opinion?
Hmm. I have not seen genuine fish oil, directly from an oily fish like salmon, for example, cause a flair of inflammation, including for rheumatoid arthritis. However, people do have bio-individual responses to foods. It's best to take note of how you feel in response to eating a specific food and see if it is a healthy choice for your needs.
Much thanks. Appreciate you!
Very good information Dr

Thank you so much 😊 what is the best lintel to eat.God bless you.
You're welcome. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it. All lentils are great and offer lots of nutrition and nourishment. Black lentils, also known as beluga lentils, are the most nutritious.
Brown lentils are fairly 'all-purpose,' red/yellow lentils are best for soups and stews if you prefer their mushy texture. In comparison, green and brown lentils maintain their shape after cooking and are great for salads, casseroles, side dishes, etc.
Eat lentils for the win!
Love this video. You make it so easy to understand.❤

Hi Phyllis, thanks for the idea for new content. We'll put this on our list. Take care.
Great info.
Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks Dr. your explanation was very helpful. Great job,can you please explain about PCOS. Whenever you can please because my daughter just found out she had 🎉❤it.
You're welcome. Please look here on my channel for my much older videos - podcasts - about PCOS and share it with your daughter.
It would be great for her to subscribe to my channel as much of the information for diabetes and fixing blood sugar applies to PCOS.
PCOS is an expression of insulin resistance.
With PCOS, restoring insulin sensitivity is key to healing.
Thank you❤
You're welcome.
Thank you for your time and effort for this content. My question is: How do frozen veggies, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot etc; along with frozen fruits 'compare with fresh? Thank you!
You are welcome. Frozen fruits and frozen vegetables are usually flash frozen fresh from the field and so their nutrients should be mostly retained; so they are healthy in that sense - they offer nutrient density.
If you can find organic, that is ideal, so you avoid pesticides and herbicides.
The good food is for people with money, but for people on SS, we can't afford good fruit or fish! Tuna, mackerel, and sardines are what I can buy from Family Dollar, but I must share them with my cats.
I hear you. It's unfortunate that some of the most nutritious foods are more expensive. Please do the best you can with what you can afford. Canned seafood, like tuna amd sardines , are nutritious. Legumes, beans and peas are also quite nutritious. I will cover them in a different video. Please take care of yourself as best you can.
Don’t need fruit. Get vegetables.
Buy peanuts in the shell. Inexpensive
Sorry to hear that you cannot afford "good " food however there are still some cheap ones that you can afford.
1) lentils 2)sardines 3)soya beans to make soya milk 4)collard greens 5)spinach 6) flaxseed 7)eggs8) cabbage
I'm on SNAP and can afford to eat very nutritious food. I've seen affordability used as an excuse many times. Salmon, cod, tuna, chicken, etc. and fresh veggies and fruit are not expensive compared to say lobster and steak. Tip: I would never go to Family Dollar to buy food. It's all processed food. All of it. I am a single female, 55, with type 2 diabetes. I shop at Whole Foods and I receive $281.00 a month for myself from the government through SNAP. I eat well with no complaints. I have lost 33 pounds since March when I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mostly through better food choices, intermittent fasting and eating one meal a day. It's choice and mindset in eating.
Thanks very informative video 🙏. But what about nutritional yeast ?
You're welcome. Maybe I will cover nutritional yeast in a future video.
Thank you Dr,❤❤❤
You're welcome.
I have just diagnosed with prediabetes thanks for blessing me with the video.julia colwman
You're welcome. Please take care of yourself as best you can, now that you know you have prediabetes.
Hi Doctor Yates, can a pre diabetic person eat pumpkin? God bless you for this valuable information to our health.
Hi. Yes, pumpkin can be eaten. Test, don't guess. It's best to test what your specific response is to eating pumpkin by either using a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) or using a lancet to get a drop of blood, putting it on a test strip and inserting the test strip into a glucometer, and checking for your blood sugar response to eating pumpkin. If the blood sugar level stays in the healthy range, that is good. If not, consider eating a smaller portion and see if the blood sugar response is better.
My name is Bridgette , what do you think about ozempic for type 2 diabetes
I think that GLP-1 class drugs like Ozempic provide help to people for whom other approaches have not worked or were too hard to sustain. If you take Ozempic, be sure to understand possible side effects, costs, and other concerns. If you have diabetes, please do what works for you and your needs to address and restore your health ASAP.

Thank you. I appreciate you spreading the word.
Hi Dr. Yates how are you? Berries are very expensive here in Jamaica, can’t buy the fresh ones at times. I bought the frozen ones, are they healthy? Or I should’nt buy them, please let me know thank you.❤
Hello to you in Jamaica! Frozen fruits and frozen vegetables are usually flash frozen fresh from the field and so their nutrients should be mostly retained; so they are healthy in that sense - they offer nutrient density.
If you can find organic, that is ideal, so you avoid pesticides and herbicides.
Thank you so very much ❤
You're most welcome.
Any cookbook you recommend
I have several my family uses. One of my faves is An Invitation to Indian Cooking, by Madhur Jaffrey. I love her cookbooks as the recipes are delicious, you can dial the spice level up or down as you wish, and I find her recipes easy to follow since I am someone who cooks but doesn't live to cook, if you know what I mean.
Tried them raised blood sugar 230-280 pts
That is an unusual response. Of course, eat the foods that give you the best blood sugar numbers.
Thank you always though food with cholesterol affect high cholesterol prob.
You're welcome. Separate videos will cover cholesterol as a topic.
Thanks for the information

Can you eat fresh if broccoli if you have no thyriod? I had mine removed in 2019. It was super large and grew inside my chest area. I take synthroid daily, but will eating fresh broccoli daily will interfere with synthroid?
I can't give medical advice here. It's always best to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
Generally speaking, for someone without a thyroid, eating broccoli is generally considered safe, but there are some considerations. Broccoli contains goitrogens, which can interfere with iodine use in thyroid hormone production. However, this effect is significant only if consumed in extremely large quantities, such as 2 kilograms per day. Cooking broccoli reduces its goitrogenic activity, making it even safer. Therefore, moderate consumption of broccoli should not pose a risk, but it's safest to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
I make lentil sprouts and always keep them on hand.
Smart!
I just discovered ur channel and have subscribed. I don’t like the taste of olives so I take 2tablespoon of organic olive oil twice per day, is this ok? Ty.
Yes it is OK. It's fine to take 2 tablespoons of organic, extra virgin olive oil instead of eating olives, if you prefer that. Great question.
How to avoid the coloring thats added in grocery stores? Is wild caught also done with coloring?
This is a great question. To be sure, you should ask the people who sell the salmon in the grocery stores if they know if any coloring is added to the wild salmon for sale. And check this out -
For most if not all farmed salmon, coloring is added to give the farmed salmon the appearance of its pink color. Wild salmon naturally produces its classic pink color for its flesh.
As far as I know, wild salmon gets its color from the carotenoid pigments astaxanthin and other compounds found in the food it naturally eats, such as shrimp, krill, and algae. These pigments give wild salmon its characteristic red or pink hue, and without them, salmon would be white or gray. The amount of carotenoids a wild salmon eats depends on the species, which can affect how red or pink it is.
For example, wild sockeye salmon has the most vibrant red color because it eats a lot of zooplankton, while coho salmon eats more small fish as it matures.
Dr., what’s the best diabetic medicine to be on that don’t take your hair out and also what’s good with your eyes are blurry thank you
This is a complex question. People have individual reactions to medications, including hair loss. Also, hair loss can be a part of hormonal imbalances, including the thyroid hormones, and others. If your eyes are blurry, please get your vision checked by an ophthalmologist ASAP. It might indicate worsening blood sugar levels; or it could be due to something else. But please do get your eyes and vision checked ASAP.
What's the best meat to eat
I think free range, hormone-free, antibiotic-free chicken or turkey are a good choice, along with fish.
Get wild berries frozen it’s cheaper this way. You can used them in your smoothies.
Yep, that is generally true. As long as the nutrient density is there, frozen is fine.
Red, black, wild, brown rices, including red rice quinoa rice cake, Lundengren brand: cauliflower, too, helps with diabetes too. My numbers are coming down.
Yay for you! This is good news. Please keep up the good news.
Oh, hummus!!!❤❤❤ NOT the store brands, though! Make it yourself or find Greek, Turkish, or Lebanese restaurants that are made from scratch. There are restaurants here: Pita Potle, Zina, Alladins, and Brassica. Oh my goodness ❤❤❤😂
Agreed - eat hummus that is made fresh as much as possible. Fresh real food is the best option. Yum!
She looks healthy!
Thanks for the compliment.
What's the best food for breakfast, lunch for prediabetic
The best foods are the ones that keep your blood sugar levels in a healthy range after eating them. Test, don't guess, so you find which foods work best for your needs. There is bio-individual variation in blood sugar responses to foods eaten. Keep checking back for future videos that cover best foods for blood sugar control, prediabetes, diabetes and promoting insulin sensitivity.
Why do some foods seem to have little effect on blood sugar some days and then large effect other days?
Is fasting recommended or safe for someone who is diabetic.
I can't give medical advice here. In general, fasting is a great idea for people who have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. Fasting has been used for centuries for healing purposes, including blood sugar issues like type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
You're welcome.
What about cabbage
Is it good to eat
Cabbage is delicious and it is good to eat. Its nutrients and fiber content are a healthful choice for overall health and for good blood sugar control.
Do you weigh the 1 oz serving of pistachios still in the shell? Thx
Great question! The weight for the pistachios is with them out of their shell.
Thx so much!
Is lentil have different types I know of one lentil brown
Yes. There are different types of lentils. The ones I've seen can be brown, black, green, yellow, orange and red..
Lentils are tasty with scrambled eggs.
Yumm! I agree. Sometimes I have lentils and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Oh really! Got to try. Thanks
Plus adds healthy price tag to your grocery bill!
I hear you about eating healthy foods; it can be more expensive. Be sure to consider how and when you shop; look for frozen foods on sale where possible, canned items on sale, or cooking foods from scratch, like beans and other legumes. Another option is to participate in a community garden, or grow food yourself, including in your kitchen window or on a patio, or whatever space you have access to.
Collaborate with a friend and buy in bulk. There are a lot of ways to reduce your grocery bill and eat healthy foods.
When I was a student in college on a tight budget, these are some of things I did and it worked out.
I wish you success in this quest.
I’m pre diabetic for years I don’t understand it’s really hear stick yourself and no Information on what I can do. If I’m pre why I can’t I be FREE!! I asked and was told you can not reverse it so I keep taking their one prescribe met formin and I’m on hoping this helps because I’m

Ma'am what kind of doctor expert are you.
I am a licensed Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with over 30 years of clinical experience. I founded and led the first-ever fully accredited Naturopathic and Integrative Medicine Residency program in the state of California here in the United States of America.
Are you one of the doctor that believe diabetes can be reversed by diet? Thank you for the video.
Yes I am. This has been my experience across 30+ years of clinical work. You are welcome for the video..
Doctor what do I do to get rid of pre diabetes?
That's a great question. It depends on what are the root causes why a person has prediabetes. I recommend you watch my video where I explain this. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/fdalXd46R28/v-deo.html
What about avocados?
Avocados are fabulous and will be covered in a different video.
The lentils have 39.9 carbs ? That’s too high in carbs isn’t it ? I think my blood sugar would spike !
Great question, Darlene. Please keep in mind that lentils also offer fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for health, in addition to slow-burning, complex carbohydrates. All carbs are not the same in their impact on blood sugar levels.
If you are worried that your blood sugar might spike, you can try a small portion, like 1/2 a cup, and test to see what happens in response.
They would. Early on after diagnosis when I was learning what not to eat I tried. Lentils are terrible for diabetics. As are most beans........I suggest you check out Dr Ken Berry and Jason Fung for better information on controlling diabetes through diet.
The thing with me, I’m homeless and will be for about 3 more months. 🤦🏾♂️
I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope things get way better ASAP.
That's ❤❤
Yep.
Salmon never satisfied me
Interesting. I'm glad you notice what works for you.

For your well being do not eat farmed fish it resembles wild but not where it counts
As is not fed same like wild salmon but sometime even corn
Wild fish is nutritionally better than farmed fish.
