Thanks, as a relatively new guitarist to gear I appreciate these kinds of explanations. I picked up a Katana 100 and there's so many features I barely know where to start with this thing haha. I love the amp though, sounds great.

You may also say that people must set CHAIN to CHAIN3 in the software, to skip BOOSTER & DELAY/FX of the signal. If not, looper sound will take the effects you set for your guitar too (and you want to avoid these when connecting the Loop).
"The KATANA-100 FX Loop Send/Return is located within the AMPLIFIER EQUALIZER section of the KATANA EFFECTS CHAIN. This can be accessed and changed with the BOSS TONE STUDIO SOFTWARE. Options for CHAIN 1, CHAIN 2 and CHAIN 3 are available for selection.
If you are using a LOOPER pedal (ie. BOSS RC-3/30/300) with the KATANA, use CHAIN 3 for the best functionality, REVERB will still be the ending effect but can be set to zero. ".

epb111 - FxFloorBoard is basically Tone Studio but better, it lets you reorder everything and use booster/mod and delay/fx all at once.

Thanks for your video. In addition(I'm using the BOSS RC-30): In this way the looper is connected behind the pre-amp. As a result, switching effects (Effects) on the amplifier still affects the sound reproduction from the looper. This can be adjusted with the computer and the BOSS software for the Katana. There you can include the looper behind the effects section in the circuit of the amp. The only thing that still has an effect on the recording is the reverb part of the amplifier. Cheers

Hello. Thank you for sharing. I had the problem you have described so I changed to chain 3. This fixed the problem of the loop sound changing. However, now my delay in my banks is very different and lasts a lot longer and just sounds bad. Is there any way I can use chain 3 but still keep the same delay characteristics? Cheers.

Apologies for my late reply. I completely missed your question.
Pay close attention to how and via which button your delay is configured. With some presets, the delay is assigned to the reverb knob. A shared function. In that case, the signal comes after the looper in the circuit. As a result, the delay is always added to the output.
You can check this via computer.
I hope this is your problem and you can fix it. Unfortunately, the reverb can never be configured for the looper
      Regards Herbert

That is difficult to answer. I can't figure out how you hooked it all up. It is best to configure the Looper via the input and output on the back of your amplifier and further via the Boss Program on your computer or Mac.

So where should I put a 535Q? I’ll try the effects loop first. Just got the Katana Artist. Usually use a 500VL next to the guitar to use instead of the guitar volume knob but in the manual it looks like it will work plugged into the back. So excited to play with this. Straight out of the box it made my playing better because of the incredible pick response. When I dig in on the low E it thumps and i haven’t got past 50 watts yet! It really allows me to express myself. Love the Yamaha THR30II but more power is more better.

if you dont use pedals, plug a patch cable between the send/return jacks, then you can add a programmable volume boost to every channel. (add the volume in either the send or return with the software editor, the best for solo boosts!

FX loop is especially practical when using a tube booster for leads, choruses etc. That way the boost is not effecting and distorting your clean sound from preamp.

Just a fyi for people having issues like I did. I used to cables to run my looper through the effects loop and no sound. I looked on reddit and one commenter suggested going into tone studio to make sure the loop input and out put were on. I discovered the effects loop was turned off for some custom presets I down loaded and on for others. So I turned it on for each patch hit write which fixed that issue. So I disconnect my laptop put it back on my desk so I can play. Well I set the volume in and out at 50% so now the loopers isn't load enough so back to tone studio to make more adjustments. Be careful not to turn the one on the left on the screen to loud (I have mine set to 30%) or it will cause the amp to distort bad. I have the one on the right set to 100%. I should be able to fine tune from the pedal. I'm not sure why you would want the effects loop off? Or what the reasoning behind being able to turn it off was?

Okay, can I run a pedal board, say a preamp and delay, into the effects loop return and just use the power amp without anything in the input or effects loop send, or does it have to go into the power amp in? Would there be any difference in the tone? I'm guessing not because they both bypass the onboard preamp.

*I have a problem. Please help.*
I tried to contact boss in Finland, but they ignored me 2 times already / left the case on hold.
My rc1 looper works normal when going straight (guitar>looper>boss katana 100),
but when I plug it in the effects loop, I get no sound at all from the looper even tho it says it's "playing" my recording.
It worked just like it is supposed to a week from when I bought the looper.
Here are some details and things I've tried:
-The looper indeed plays what I record which can be seen from the leds, but theres no sound as it's "playing".
-I've updated everything possible on my katana via usb
-My looper gets power from a 9v battery and i've changed it many times already
-My cables go from send to input and return to output (they are not wrong)
-I use the ga-fc foot switch (to change from clean to distortion without touching the amp)
-Volume is turned up on the looper of course. (its not at 0)
-My cables are all brand new (they all work)
    Thanks.
Also I haven't done a factory reset, but I really don't wanna lose my amp presets.
Will I lose them if i factory reset my amp? I do have some of them on the boss tone studio.

    • @AustinSandick
      @AustinSandick 5 років тому +2

Check tone studio to see if the effects loop is turned on in the amp. This might be your issue.

    • @austinhaines73
      @austinhaines73 4 роки тому +1

Yes, you need to turn on the effects loop. I had the same problem. To turn it on you can either do it through tone studio or you can use your gafc pedal by clicking on effects, then turn on loop so the red button is displayed. Make sure you then save your bank to keep effects loop on when using that bank another time.

Yes you can do this if your using the distortion pedal before the looper for a lead tone.

    • @AustinSandick

In the 100 is a flat response speaker meaning that it's more like a standard g12 speaker. The katana artist has the greenback/v30 waza speaker.

  • @5eba

This is a bad bad video. First, thats not the intended use of an FX loop, you'd use the Aux In for this application. But if you where to do this you would record the loop with the pedal receiving signal from the FX loop send. That way the signal you feed the pedal is colored by the preamp instead of what happened here that the "clean" sound from the pedal is a crappy raw unprocessed guitar.
Also who uses a Loop pedal to explain an Fx loop?? Its guaranteed confusion!! I cant believe this is an official Roland video.

I bought the katana 100/212 and couldnt be more unhappy. This is by a million times the loudest most noise making P.O.S. Ive ever owned. I cant even play it cause it makes a constant KKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH noise. On crunch lead brown clean acoustic all of them. When I play it makes the noise when Im not playing its so loud. Im beyond frustrated. I watch vids and not one vid shows a noisy amp. So why is mine? Im about to return it. Im so pissed! Why is this happening? I have nothing hooked up to it besides my guitar. SMH! And on top of it not 1 single thing about noise on the website and they wont let me send an email to customer support either. Wont even show me the damn email address.

Are you sure its the amp? IE, taken the exact same setup and tried it with a different amp? I don't know what you have in your signal chain but it could be a multitude of things, even if it's just your guitar plugged in. Bad grounds, no shielding etc.

I've never had this issue with my Katana. However, i remember dealing with a very similar issue with a line 6 practice amp and found the issue was solved when I had switched out my shitty cable for a better quality cable. If none of that works id suggest returning the katana. hoping for a refund
