  • We'll take a short deep dive into the Boss Katana MK2 effects loop setting, what they do, the signal chains and using pedals through the effecat loop. I'll explain the purpose of the signal chain and different signal chains within the boss katana and how you can model your external pedal order from it and why.

    When using a looper, the FX loop needs to be set to post reverb.

    This is probably the best video to explain how to add pedals to a Katana. I really want to see you also add a GAFC into the mix and with the wah pedal into the GAFC or can stomp pedals also be added to it.

      I am not sponsored by Boss. I bought a bunch of Boss pedals awhile back but I only have a few of them now. I'll be doing some Boss Pedal reviews and maybe some work on the GX-100 and ME-90 in the future, but I'm also going to start exploring other amps similar to the Katana like the Blackstar ID Core, Line 6 Catalyst and Fender Mustang GTX series.

    Once I got the katana, the pedal board went away. 😂 In retrospect, I am glad I didn't invest too much in pedals.
    The configuration I used was running everything from guitar to pedals to amp and used a looper in the effects loop. It got the job done for backing tracks. When I ditched the board, I used one patch to record the track and another patch to solo with. The tone studio made that so easy!
    Great video as always, thank you!

      I'm retired 59 beginner and I tried pedals and they sound good but are expensive and take up a lot of room so I bought this amp and will be delivered today. Can't wait to hear it.

      I recently sold almost all of my pedals and my tube amp. I probably lost about $900. 😬But as a guitar player, you know you're always going to lose money on resale.

    Interesting. I've been running my boss compressor sustainer at the end of my chain in the input. Sounds fine. It defines sound in the chain in the input. I didn't know you could run in the fx loop. I'm getting an master effects PM EQ pedal. I was told that it would be best to run it into the fx loop because if I run it in the input that it wouldn't sound good. Thanks for this video. I'm glad I can still run the compressor into the input because it sounds fine. Plus, it being a buffer I wanted it in the end of my chain into the input.

    • @Guitarnivore

      The EQ will definitely sound different before the amp. Good or bad, that's for you to decide really.

    Thanks for the info, great vid. I only have a mk1 100w but I want to get a mk2 and use the stereo expand function. Setting this up with the gafc-ex katana footswitch, pedalboard, and fx loop is hard to get your head around. Subscribed

    • @Guitarnivore
      @Guitarnivore  Рік тому +1

      GA-FC into the Katana MK2, pedalboard through the FX loop and the stereo expand is just a plug and a switch. It'll probably all make sense once you have it all in front of you. Thanks for the sub!

    Hey there have you tried placing a Noise supressor in the effects loop and turn off internal setting. On crunch channel with internal NS engaged sound drops out at low volume,clean channel fine.I guess question is would it be impactful to place in efx loop. Thanks

    • @Guitarnivore
      @Guitarnivore  Рік тому +1

      I use the on board NS and a cheap noise suppressor between the guitar and amp. The only way I like to run a suppressor in the loop is using the four cable method like I explain here in this video: ua-cam.com/video/5WGtPaldtdk/v-deo.html

    In response to my question about pedals or FXFloorboard, I have to admit I found all these pedals and order a bit confusing but I am sure if I purchased pedals and sat down and watched this and played with the configurations it would make sense. Still have to watch the video on the GA-FC and still have no clue if I am going to purchase pedals or not. 😵‍💫

      It all can be a bit much sometimes. The GA-FC and GA-FC can be a bit confusing at first, but once you learn the modes, it all makes sense, plus you can program it a bit too.

      HOORAH! I have an old Digitech 255 I purchased decades ago, using your video and the Katana Looper video I was able to get my 255 to loop (only has 20 seconds) into the amp and also play my guitar. I was missing the send/return setting and chain 1 worked best for me. Cheers for the help once again.

    What I'd love to do is put my guitar through the Dual Wreck preamp that I have cuz it gives me a great rectifier type tone. I might use an EQ pedal prior to that. Then I'd like to run it through just the effects loop of my Katana 100 Mk2 head and then into the power amp. Thing is, I love most everything about the Katana, except I'm not crazy about any of the distortion/overdrive simulations that it has internally. So I would like to bypass that which is easy enough I guess... just don't turn one on. I would rather use the timing and modulation effects in the Katana. I like them more than the pedals I have which are all ancient. I wonder.... the TC Electronics Dual Wreck loves to have something like a Tube Screamer on its input to really nail that rectifier tone. Is there a way I could make the guitar go through the onboard Tube Screamer, then into the Dual Wreck, then back into the Katana mod and delay section and then the power amp...?

    • @Guitarnivore
      @Guitarnivore  Місяць тому

      I'd run the Dual Wreck right into the top of the amp and then try using the T Scream to just boost it without using any drive on the boost. Also, I find the best way to get good distortion from the Katana without making it sound too compressed is use the crunch amp with a fair amount of gain to push it over the edge of breakup and then use the T Scream, Clon or Guv DS to push it. Then play with the parametric EQ to really drive your tone home.

      Are you running the looper through the fx loop of the katana? If so, you have to set the fx loop to post rev. Have you tried adjusting the volume level of the rhythm of the RC 500?

      You can use the tuner between the guitar and amp and the looper in the FX loop, but you need to ensure that it's set to post-reverb in tone studio.
