This answered all of my questions. I just got a katana and was wondering if the ga-fc was worth it, or just an overpriced channel button. Definitely worth it. full control! now I gotta find your video about the fx loop and the expression pedal
I just got my Katana 100 and GA-FC footswitch. Love your videos, lots of great info for this great amp! Although I will have many more, for starters when I plug in GA-FC, Channel 1 is not the Clean Channel but the Brown Tone and Channel 2 is the Clean. How do I re-set either the amp or the footswitch so the channels go Clean to Brown Tone, 1-4 on the footswitch?
I found myself if I used the tap tempo on the amp itself That I was able to set the speed of delay for my sound but have not tried it and the pedal yet
Austin from Boss. Bausstin. Just bought the katana artist and the ga fc foot switch. Trying to determine if i should bother with getting into the software or just use it as is. I'll just use as is for the time being as I'm thinking it will take a while to become familiar with the basics. I'm a "read the manual, use the thing, then read the manual again" guy. After you've used something and you read the manual again, you get a lot more out of it. A product with as many features was your artist amp should have a comprehensive video tutorial series showing everything. You wouldn't want customers to buy your products and be totally unaware of half the really cool features, would ya? For example, there's at least two Boss Katana artist UA-cam tutorial videos where the presenter doesn't even realize that you can press the lights above the 'effects' knobs to get more sounds, and they change color based on which sound feature you're on. And those incomplete videos have tens of thousands of views. So everyone who learned from those videos has no clue about the extra effects features. This information should come right from Boss. Or when you give a popular UA-cam channel an amp, they should go through training before they do any tutorial video. It's a total waste otherwise. Okay, I've rambled long enough, sorry. Thank you:)
I have the 100w Head. I will be buying either this or the 2 button latching footswitch they make. very informative and I think I'll have to go with this one now, we'll see. But Oh please, tell me how cool it is another 14 times.
MIght sound silly, but if using the GAFC footswitch how would the wiring go to also have the Boss tuner pedal in the mix since the amp doesn't have a tuning feature? Would it be easiest to just have the pedal on the side with an spare cable to just plug in and tune then switch back? New to this setup so trying to find the best way to still have access to my tuner since I'm no longe using my pedalboard.
Indeed my young fellow!.... But if one looks to the old West and considers the tipi of the Navajo, one could conclude that the heat was also in tents...!
I'm a little confused about the effect line on the videos footswitch. Mine says 1-booster, 2-mod, 3-fx, 4-delay, and panel-reverb followed by effects button. delay and fx are separate. doesn't say loop of tap anywhere on the switch. Can anyone explain why we are different?
Some sort of Bluetooth dongle must be developed for global EQ and noise gate adjustments on the fly, that or some panel control shortcut. I hate carrying my laptop to gigs to modify these settings per venue
I’m not 100% sure so don’t quote me on this, but the v3 firmware does include a new graphic EQ that you might be able to assign to a channel. I haven’t tried that but maybe it’s possible? Check it out!
So what if i already have effect pedals that are on the amp. For example ds-1, reverb, blues driver. Would having an effects loop option even matter since i can just activate the clean tone on the amp and change the effect through my pedals? I have a boss rc-30 looper too.
I have a question regarding the Katana II head: how do you get into “bank b” of the effects? It’s obvious how to switch between the various “bank a” options, but I don’t know how to get to the “b” bank. Do you need a foot pedal for this?
Hello Austin, grettings from Chile, I have bought tne new katana 100 mk2, and I have two questioa for you. 1.- how can I save my panel settings in bank b pushing some panel buttons? 2.- the katana brings some adhesives, do I have to use to put in ga-fc? Thanks a lot!
Daniel O'Ryan 1. You first switch to bank B by holding the panel button. Then you save your settings as usual 2. The original GAFC text indicators show functions for the old MK1. Mk 2 has different functions so you’ve got to use your adhesives if you want accurate info on your gafc
Very informative however I have yet to see anyone post a video to show how the pedal works in a live situation. As in is there any delay time when switching channels and use your foot not your fingers. Like going from your clean sound to an overdriven one in the middle of a song.
There is definitely a short silent gap when switching, and reverb tails and delays get cut dead. It's great to have the channel switching but for me it doesn't replace pedals.
Great video! Just wondering though if there was anyway to use the boost function and say the chorus simultaneously or is it always one or the other? Thanks.
So a lot of the effects can be found in both the FX settings and the MOD settings, so you could do a boost and a chorus at the same time, etc. It's mainly just the boost/overdrive/distortion pedals that there's only one slot for. There is also a reverb+delay option under the reverb settings, so that will free up the delay/FX control if you want reverb and delay and 2 other effects at once. The main limitation is you can't have 2 boost pedals at once, or if you want say an overdrive and an eq pedal, you have no room for anything else besides reverb and delay. There is an EQ in the tone studio though, and you can even set it to be in front of the amp like a pedal, you just can't change it on the fly.
Is there a delay when an effect is turned on or off with the foot switch? In every review of this “foot switch”, the person playing stops playing and uses their hands to switch. What does it sound like when you turn on an effect while playing?
Yes, sadly. Enough to piss me off. I use the channels to set my overall tone for each song but pretty much use hardware pedals to get the boost for soling and transitions into different song parts - the gap using the channels is horribly noticeable, especially if using delays and reverbs cos it just gets cut dead. I don't think Boss can do anything about it.
You could plug it into the amp like a pedal board or plug it into the power amp in jack. I run my HD500X into the power amp in on a Peavey Transtube Supreme and it sounds awesome, especially with the transtube emulation turned up. I just bought the Katana mk2 100w combo and will probably just use what is in the amp most of the time, but I am going to run the HD500X into it as well to see how it sounds.
Could this foot switch work with the Katana 50? I know the 100 has 4 channels per bank and the 50 only has 2 channels per bank, so I would assume it would work, only there would be no use in the Channel 3-4 on the GA-FC. Was thinking about getting the FS-6 but, I'd rather switch directly to the channel I want, instead of cycling through them.
nope. i use a seperate looper pedal. i recommend the katana 100 for loopers because it has an fxloop. if you put the looper before the amp the modelling software often becomes "confused" and it sounds terriible
Hello Roland, please edit and reupload all the Katana videos so we can see what is being played! Having the demonstrator guy hidden behind the amp makes for a confusing presentation.
Sorry, that is not possible. The point of the video series is to have our presenter demonstrate the amp sound and functionality, but not necessarily the player. Perhaps in future videos we will try to have a better camera angle of the guitar player.
Flo Ula the ga-fc has an expression pedal input which you could then use to control the built I wah. But if you have your own tuner or cry baby pedal there wouldn't be any reason to chain them off this footswitch you would simple have them as an insert before the amp (patic for the tuner) or in the effects loop of the amp. The footswitch is to control the features of the amp not a general pedal rig patch router.
It's true the amp only holds 8 presets. The next upgrades to make this amp better would be if it could hold 100 sounds, a display to show your adjustments, control knobs that showed their positions like Peavey, a way to use a single expression pedal that would allow you to alternate between wah or say univibe, then hit a toe down switch on the expression pedal and you could alternate to a volume control. Finally a built in tuner. It would be ultimate. I've been hooking up my smart phone with the "Katana Library" app and I use a Tuner and wah/volume floor pedals prior to amp. Still a killer set-up.
Yes you can. I just use the simple footswitch that came with my fender 64 twin reissue on the Katana 50 so I can use/store 4 presets and switch between them. You can also just buy a cheap footswitch to save money.

@@JC-fj7oo I thought TRS meant that its balanced? One ground signal and a left and right signal as opposed to one ground and one mono signal on a TS cable.
I think the pedal is not worth $140 for what it does. You can get the Fender GTX-7 new for $100 which has a small window and does considerably more! Or I can use my older pedals from the G-dec on my Mustang III v2. This 4-button pedal has a window and 3 levels, and works w/ the 2-button pedal too! Come on Roland, the pedal is way too expensive!

Can i use it w boss katana artist?
Yes
I just wanted to clarify. I am using it with the artist Mk2 100. Works great
The cord looks too short for a real situation PLUS how much does a second cable cost?
The short cable was just for the demonstration. And a 10ft unbalanced TRS cable runs about 10 dollars
The cable that comes with it is 10ft.
@@JC-fj7oo I thought TRS meant that its balanced? One ground signal and a left and right signal as opposed to one ground and one mono signal on a TS cable.
typo, it should just say balanced
I think the pedal is not worth $140 for what it does. You can get the Fender GTX-7 new for $100 which has a small window and does considerably more! Or I can use my older pedals from the G-dec on my Mustang III v2. This 4-button pedal has a window and 3 levels, and works w/ the 2-button pedal too! Come on Roland, the pedal is way too expensive!
