    When I was still using FS2004 (about 6 years ago, in the middle of the P3Dv3 era) I saw your videos for the first time. I had just upgraded to a new gaming computer and your videos had me really excited about making the move to P3D. I ran out and started buying a lot of the add-ons I saw you using. The one I really wanted I couldn’t buy because it was no longer sold was the Duke Turbine. It’s amazing that that aircraft still works all these years, and two updates later. It’s a real shame that RealAir stopped selling that aircraft.

    Thanks for posting this video as you saved me the 60 bucks and the many hours of reinstalling all of my addons. I hope the folks from P3D scope out these videos because because the combination of this minor improvement, the pending competition and lack of acknowledging current patrons with some sort of discount is not going to bode well for them.

      With DirectX 12, there's less API overhead for draw calls, so the GPU isn't waiting for stuff to do. That was the main problem with P3D v4 and even FSX. Autogen now has little to no impact on framerates thanks to DirectX 12. Before you could easily half your framerate with it using DirectX 9, 10, or 11. Although, for some reason, the scenery complexity is still framerate intensive. Not sure why. Autogen density is no longer framerate intensive.

      Well my take is, not only will FS2020 take at least half a year to release, but it will take time before people get the add-ons they want, especially studysim addicts. So, v5, while not a strong upgrade, is still a good option to indulge in for those who still want something more during the wait. Even if the adoption rate won't be high, it is enticing in its own right.

    • @MilanPutnik
      @MilanPutnik 4 роки тому +3

      Not a strong upgrade....changes not drastic enough...
      Okay I have to !
      Look folks, I suggest you take it easy with such comments.
      The P3Dv5 is a very big deal, although you maybe don't realize it yet.
      DirectX 12 is....oh damn I cannot express enough how big it is !
      And what's coming in the next point releases now when all the necessary things for truly advanced simulator of the future are finalized - and during the previous 2 years they finalized these:
      - 64bit platform
      - PBR materials
      - new lighting and great volumetric atmospherics (ground lighting casts light at the clouds, we can now add the famous path tracing shader and have the best DX12 ray-tracing ever seen in any simulator)
      - all vector and landclass data of the whole planet finally updated from the 2006. old one to the current 2020. so well that they made ORBX Vector obsolete !!
      - brand new high-resolution mesh for the whole planet out of the box that is so good that PILOT's Software worked on a brand new superior version of their FS Global mesh and increased its resolution to the insane LOD15 (!!!)...just in order to again be better than the default P3Dv5 !
      - default GPS devices finally have full functionality such as SIDs and STARs and VNAV and fixes and what not
      - a brand new physics model is coming, starting with the new contact point physics in this release which means realistic taxi, touchdown and roll behavior, precise wheel behavior, realistic ground bumps and friction, actual sloped surfaces that influence physical behavior of an aircraft as it should be, etc.
      - realistic movement of winds across the water and hard surfaces (did you see how it looks in P3Dv5 when a strong wind blows across the ocean, and the surface ocean layer is being blown and sprayed in the direction of the wind, hitting the waves, producing the foam, etc...nVidia WaveWorks 2.0...and trust me the water that you saw in these videos is nothing compared to how good it can look by just increasing the detail level of the WaveWorks parameter from the sim cfg...when the community and 3rd party devs start playing with all these new toys...if you have at least 1080TI and a good CPU...cool...)
      - and of course the biggest of all these things that wraps everything up - a brand new engine, after 15 years a whole brand new DirectX 12 core that offers things you really cannot imagine - they really surprised us folks from the profession with that, because it is a huge undertaking that they've been working on for the previous 3 years...huge amount of engineering and programming...huge...
      It opens not only insane graphical capabilities and almost DOUBLE the performance. but also FULL multi-core and GPU utilization (now you can use all your 64 cores if you want and it will run like crazy...if you have like 2 strong GPUs to render all that work from all those cores, finally a full use of all the resources).
      The new DX12 core also brings us selective multi-adapter rendering which means that you can have full power of 2 or more GPUs (and if LM finalizes that DX12 feature, multiple GPUs from different vendors or so called hybrid mGPU environment...talk about using AMD and nVidia together in the same machine, and everybody say the performance in various tests is better than when using nVidia+nVidia or AMD+AMD, imagie that).
      Also coming are the options to one GPU to render display 1, the other display 2...and DX12 is especially great for VR because it can use one GPU for the left eye, the second GPU power for the right eye
      Finally a very important thing to mention, we now have very nice frame times, which means very smooth simulation, no more stutters, lags, etc.
      And all these things are just a small part of what's now possible with P3Dv5.
      Some started calling it P5D - and that ain't a bad naming at all.
      That's why I told you - just go slowly and explore the new sim, read and learn about what it is so special about DirectX 12 and Prepar3D v5.
      I am a senior scientist, so I already know.

      I know what you mean. I don't think there's any other software that I have thrown more money at. Also, developing for FSX or P3D is a nightmare. The code is antiquated and God help anyone creating an xml gauge. The documentation is incomplete, there's no editor that can highlight syntax errors and it uses non-standard mathematic expressions called reverse polish notation. So instead of writing a simple assignment like 'A = B + C', you would write an absurdly unintuitive 'B C (>A) + ' That's ok for short things but any calculation more than a few lines long becomes unreadable.
      I only hope that Microsoft have abandoned away this burden of antiquated legacy code in the new FS2020. A clean, modern approach is needed.

    • @maydaygoingdown5602
      @maydaygoingdown5602 4 роки тому

      @@JasonJason210I 100% agree, the old antiquated methodology of that code should never be seen again.
      However I believe that FS2020 is still based off parts of that code, they said they discarded at least half of it though.
      But Asobo know what they are doing here, they have made a great looking racing car Simm in the past...Simms are what they excelle at so I'm fairly confident in there approach...I think the less Microsoft has to do with it....the better:)...just use there servers and tell them to sit back down:).
      And yeah it's certainly the most money I've invested in a software platform...crazy over the many years when I think about it.
      That's one of things that felt like a breath of fresh air when I first tried Xplane 11...ortho scenery..Free, aircraft from community like Zibo 737 Free, just so many great things to use that don't cost anything and the payware products are cheaper too.
      I have a dreaded feeling things like payware aircraft from the likes of PMDG won't be cheap for MS2020...think I'll be staying away from them now...don't want to be going back to the old days of throwing money at the Simm.

    It is interesting to see that throughout the video, it would appear that V5 has offload a lot of work from the CPU and dropped it onto the GPU. • @JasonJason210
      @JasonJason210 4 роки тому +4

      @@darkshadow7709 I'm concerned that Microsoft will monopolise this market, for two reasons. Firstly, they have a history of killing off technologies and software without warning. It happened to FSX when they sacked the Aces studio, it happend with Flight and it can happen again...this time after they've put companies like ORBX out of business. And then what? The other reason for my cocnern is that they will have control of the marketplace. What if this is released through Windows Store only, as a UWP application? Not only would they then have full control over all our money, but they would also have control over third party add-ons. This is what they tried to do with Flight and they'll probably try something similar with 2020. So while I don't doubt that this will be an exceptional simulator, I am wary of the conditions that may be imposed on us to use it, and also how it will affect the rest of the simulation industry. That's why I don't get excited after seeing a few showcase videos. I want 2020 to be everything we all hope it will be, but at the same time, I remain aware of how this could lead to a monoploy that could ruin the simulation market. I want X-Plane and LM and their third party developers to continue to be successful.

    You people do realize you can just download the game the same way most people in the world download movies and series? You don't have to "wait", try it out and if you like it and want to support the developers, buy it, if not, don't. You don't buy a car before a test drive, do you? Again, if you find it immoral, just delete it afterwards, but it makes no sense to wait for who knows what, when you can try it out right now and right now decide whether to buy it or not.

    3D volumetric clouds are pretty difficult to get right unless you use an off the shelf solution like trueSKY. This is something Asobo are incredibly proud of. P3D V5 I'm not really a fan judging by the video, infact I much prefer the V4.5 clouds, maybe it's too early to judge. There are some nice improvements in the lighting and ground object clarity is great but is this enough? X-Plane + Orbx True Earth is now very compelling VR with the Valkan update and there is a little simulator Microsoft are making which will make some waves I think.

    I have a v5 licence but won't be using it for some time if at all. I don't want the hassle of changing yet and not everything is smooth. Add ons have slight issues also. Then we have ms2020 which I think most are holding off for.
    I also don't think it looks that good. Yes performance is a little better but I prefer v4 more. I'm a v4 for now and I have v5 sat there.

    Interesting, I cannot see a large difference between the two. What’s your thoughts on the V5? Is it worth the upgrade costs. I’ve not used P3D in 5 months, since switching to Xplane and I’m very happy with its visuals and performance. Whilst I still have a lot of money invested in to P3D addons, I’m wary about investing into V5.
