It actually makes a lot of sense to include IX since it was meant to be a tribute/homage to the I-VI games; I'd have been surprised, to be honest, if you hadn't included it. My favorites are from II (hot take, I know) and IV, but I really like all of them, and I think you did an incredible job on each theme, as well as bringing them together into a cohesive whole.
@@seronymus Part of it is nostalgic, as it was one of the first RPG's I grew up playing. Taking the nostalgic goggles off, I adore the story and characters the game has. Accompanied by the wonderful soundtrack, It knows when to balance when it wants to be light hearted and when it decides to hit you with the tenser, darker moments. I also adore how streamlined the gameplay loop is (Focusing more on optimizing gear over level grinding). No matter how I feel, it fills me with joy to go through the world of Gaia and re-experience that adventure once more.
@@seronymus Aside from being the highest rated FF game on metacritic, 9 is considered by many people to be the peak of FInal Fantasy, where it took all the classic elements of the franchise and made it into the last game of an era. They wanted to truly show what Final Fantasy is at it's core in the original fantasy medieval style and did it perfectly while not alienating 7/8 fans. It's also the last game to have that style before 10 ditched the overworld and stuff started changing after that. tl;dr 9 is a fan favourite and also highest rated critically in reviews
yeah, 9 is the best i have ever played.. and i have played and finished all final fantasy 1 through 15 including online game's main story and 9 is undoubtedly the best for me, the story, graphic design, music, it all goes so well together for 9. Now i demand a full version for 9's battle theme!!!
I feel it flows so well because its basically the same song but evolved with every incarnation as he gets more and more used to the tools at his disposal culminating in 9 being the ultimate form of it. A man not happy until he perfects it, each song is him tweaking and changing things ever so slightly as he adds more and more flourishes. which is why each version gets more grandiose and bombastic as the games progress.
even though it's been two years since this was released, this is by far the best compilation of each battle song with the bassline before the main melody kicks in, even if FF1 is lower in comparison to the rest. a nice choice as well to see to go from 6 into 9. Also, most transistions here are ever so smooth, makes a great thing to listen to when I don't know what to listen to
I love how he did that. Also, I just love how great he did on it in general. The transitions were incredible and his drumming improved compared to his original version he did. In general Jonny did an amazing job on this. I feel like I go in expecting that everytime, but the dude never does disappoint.
This comment made me think about how in FF12 (with gambits turned off) they achieved to compensate this and have the classic RPG party setup with ATB bars (pseudo turn based like FF4-9) but they don't stand in row being attacked one by one. Though for some reason that fact is overlooked. Basically the classic gameplay but with constant movement and more natural fluidity to it, where the player has to think in real time to chose moves too while still having the Final Fantasy timer bar.
Final fantasy 1 will always be the most hyped up battle theme in the series. That’s just me. Hearing it in rock cover makes Warrior of Light the boss character that all villains fear. 👀💧💧💧💧
Gotta love in Dissidia when he basically tells Sephiroth to shut up and fight. Cloud would dread facing Sephiroth, but the Warrior of Light is no Cloud.

FFIX was the first Final Fantasy game I had ever played. God just hearing these themes bring back awesome memories. FF is an amazing game series, and you have honored it well.

I never played 8 or 9, or anything past 10 as SMT Nocturne set the bar too high for me, but i heard this track named "the man with the machine gun" which sounds like something from 7, but is from 8? Whatever, because that track is really good. You should consider covering it if you haven't already!
