I remember in 2007 when I was working in real estate seeing people buy homes new from builders with the intention of selling before close of escrow to a new buyer for profit. The crash was so brutal and fast that I remember seeing a lot of these units foreclosed on with the builder plastic still on the carpet.

I live in a beautiful college town in Maine. I can give you some insight into why the land in Camden won't go even for free. Camden, if you aren't aware, is where most of the celebrities with summer homes in Maine live. The land is subject to SO many prohibitive business regulations and taxes and other overhead costs that having a profitable business is not really possible. Also, since it is populated by the upper class and Mainers have referendums on everything, depending on what type of business you try to open you might have a huge fight from the locals who hate change. Maine is not a business friendly state. Tourism is our biggest employer. If it weren't for tourism there would be no jobs in Maine. Most people work in places they can't afford to live in, like Portland. Camden is crazy gentrified as well. Perhaps that will help clear things up, I hope you found it helpful. ❤😊

steven gibson - I gave you a thumb, because like me you've been blacklisted on UA-cam. You posted a reply 29 seconds before I found it wayyyy down the list of replies. I've never had a Facebook account and think social media is obnoxious. I'm only 41 yrs old too. Anyway, UA-cam is going the way of the future and making its platform a popularity contest. You'll never see a comment thumbed down anymore so no one's feelings are hurt with any explanation or accountability, but the negative marks still exist and it bumps your comments down the list and your channel too. Certain video subject matter, while not banned, is also hidden from the public unless you're looking for it. This includes mainstream religious videos, with no propaganda or offensive content whatsoever. I just replied cuz I'm becoming aware of UA-cam turning out like life in general now since it's all digital, superficial and void of meaning, but we wouldn't wanna hurt anyone's feelings of course. Wish you the best Steven!

Every example given reminds me of my last company dental plan.
Pitch: we even got dental, we take care of our employees teeth.
Reality: cost for essential dental work was about $2,500. My out of pocket cost - about $2,200. So much for insurance. I would have paid less in a free competitive market if "insurance" didn't exist at all.

No, the land is free. When you buy a house it’s only part of the price, you’re paying for the land. And after you pay, you pay a tax on the property twice every year. And of course they’re looking to generate revenues, the land is just sitting there earning nothing, and the city owns the property, instead of selling it They are giving it away.

I will just say this, please be more informed and mindful before subscribing so-called "universal" and highly abstract ideologies onto everyone's experience. They cleaned it up, but it’s possible it’s in the water supply forever. Also you have to promise to build immediately at a cost of $200K. Then you have to hire 24 people within a year. That’s a lot to take on for “free” land. I can see why there are no takers.

The reason skeetown (Muskegon) is offering up free to businesses is that most people don't want to live there and if they already do, they need more opportunities. The Lakeshore is certainly beautiful and the industrial areas offered are near Lake Michigan. My hometown is about 30 mi from there and in between is Manistee national forest, pictured in many Pure Michigan ads. There's tons of recreation and boating, and Michigan has more inland lakes than any other state besides Minnesota. Skeetown might not be the best place to live but it's worth starting a strong business there and living a little outside of town in the boundless beauty of nature. Haha, yes Michigan

This is interesting information. And great for some people. However there are also thriving rural towns and small cities with good paying jobs and business opportunities where you can buy a building lot on a paved road with electric service. Where I spent most of my life is a great example. Not gonna tell you where. There are still one and two acre lots for only a few grand more than they sold for thirty forty years ago. $20,000 +-....it's the house that costs the most. If you don't need a mcmansion you can have a .....oh no....he just mentioned my state!!! You can have a turnkey home for $60,000. Towns near universities...towns that have a solid industry.... natural resources... tourist areas...my town had all of these.....and great schools!! Good luck!

I was curious, since I look into various aspects of the real estate market, and this didn't sound right to me, so I called the Town Halls of a couple of these, and they said, NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT, THERE IS NO FREE LAND PROGRAMS OR ANY TOWN/GOVT GIVEWAYS, LOANS, OR OTHERWISE GRANTS OF LAND. I spoke to the people in charge of land, etc... and asked them in several ways to make sure I wasn't asking the question wrong or speaking to the wrong person. It's Important to check these things out before posting inaccurate information. The towns will now receive the link to this video so they know where the influx of requests are originating from. I realize you make videos as a public service to try and give good info to people, but the "facts" needs to be accurate.

I’m about an hour South of Camden, it’s nice, I like the scenic route to Bar Harbor on Rt1 in Maine. Camden is tricky for business, just like every coastal area north of Portland. Tourism is great a few months a year. Fishing is hard work, but some of these people are doing very well. Local services is really the best bet, food, beer, or a trade. So it’s a good small business opportunity. Research would be key, before moving to Maine. Retail is very tough outside of tourist and holiday seasons.
Mainers are typically hard working and trustworthy, so a production company is good. Heating said production company cuts into the bottom line. It’s the only thing that keeps us from having large businesses, the people are typically amazing.
That said, if you move here because you like it, please remember to leave it the way you found it. We like things this way too.
