i LOVE this advice. i used to always point to myself that "my dark circles are so obvious" "my eyebrows arent perfectly even" "my face isnt symmetrical" and it pulled me down A LOT. but when i decided to stopped pointing out these little things, i started to genuinely say "that little thing is a part of me and it goes well with my whole face." and i started to actually see myself as presentable & attractive

ive thankfully started to do this more often, and ive realized how much i hate taking pictures with the filters on instagram. i was so confused honestly.

Right!! And it goes hand it hand with the thing about how no one is obligated to look pretty. Like at all. Looking strange or seemingly unattractive doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
@@lillyblair3056 YUP I AGREE a way i’ve found to practice this mentality is by wearing outfits out even if i think they are slightly ugly likeee- that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing
@@yatzn02 I love that for you! My favorite thing to do is find pieces that are attractively ugly. I’ll be shopping and just go “wow that’s hideous I need need it!”

My problem is that I like my face when I am taking selfies, where I have 100% control of the angle and how my expression is, but every group pic at restaurants or in general pictures that other people take of me, look so bad. Sometimes it´s meme material bad but sometimes it is just... crazy person on drugs plotting a murder.
Like it physically hurts to look at pictures of myself. idk. anyway, i´ll try lol

i suggest seeing kaiti yoo's advice on how to get good photos! i learned that when you want someone to take a photo of you, communication is key! tell them exactly what you want; what should be in the photo, how you want the angle to be, etc
altho bear in mind, if you have my luck; my family members would take awful shots and not listen to a word i said 😭

as a fat person, following other fat people on instagram helped me up my selfie game like 1000% omg seeing the beauty in people who look like me and seeing them taking up room and centering their bodies in that way really made me want to do it too!! anyway great advice and great video!!!

the face thing is so important! im dealing with a lot of face and body dysmorphia and sometimes it goes so hard i dont want to go out of my house. learning to just "deal with it" and trying to accept the way you look is very important, even if you dont particularly love the way you look, just accepting it as it is can be more than enough
also the part about embarassment!!!! ive had SO many missed opportunities to take a nice photo just because there were other people around 😭 i need to learn how to pose less awkward and just TAKE THOSE PICTURES. i absolutely need them.
my fav tip to get more comfortable with cameras is taking a lot of goofy, silly pictures first - some pics that arent supposed to look good. if you can make a silly face or do something dumb on camera, you sure as hell can show off your outfit or pose nicely.
i have a picture of me kneeling as if im praying to an art piece by dorian electra in a museum, i have a picture of myself running away from rain, i have a picture of my drinking monster for the first time, i have a picture taken at the new minions movie show - just random pictures. it helped me sooooo much

when i see how many people relate to the part about accepting your natural face is so sad like we are all unique and pretty and beauty is not something you can define bc theres always something beautiful or nice about the other person:( and how social media made us feel bad about being ourselves when we dont facetune/edit our photos ugh i hate beauty standards that no one can achieve by just being born when most of these people (influencers and celebrities) had something done (i dont shame them but they dont admit it and lie about it most of the time) or the edit their photos so much that they dont even look like themselves

this is a super helpful video, dustin! i've always struggled with my self-esteem in taking photos, even now that i've come to be more comfortable in my own skin, so this came at the right time. my goal is to feel better in front of a camera, since i feel like i don't take that many pictures of myself. your advice really shifted my perspective, and i'll definitely be applying it in the future!

when i was younger i used to take photos ONLY WITH FILTERS ON but because of that i started to hate myself even more for how i look because they changed the shape of my face or they made my face smaller or the nose/other areas of face or made my eyes look so much bigger and now i only use filters to smooth my skin when i have a day with some pimples and i feel so much better about my face and slowly about my body (im midsize/plus size) so these tips/advices were really useful and practical + im gonna use some of the poses now and ill try to feel less embarassed/awkward when i take the picture and give tips to my friends bc i always complain how they dont take the picture how i want to but i never show them in the first place so its kinda hypocritical haha anyways i loved the video and the shirt you have on love ya dustin

OMG HAHAHA I just realized how similar we are, especially the editing part where you don't like to edit till 6 or 8 but rather 5 or 10 etc. And about taking bomb pics to show our kids in future and they can look cooler Infront of their friends by showing our old pics etc. The part where you said to accept how we look that's really difficult, I like how I look Infront of the mirror but when someone takes a pic of me omg looks like a potato n that makes me tear up.

Similarly, Ive had too completely overhaul the way I approach exercise. My whole childhood, I was obsessed with wanting a flat stomach. I know it came from family - brown, immigrant families have no filter or awareness of the impact of their comments. Now I try really hard to work out because its medicine for my depression and try to remember its not about pushing myself to oblivion every time I get on the mat. I live my the notion of consistent mediocrity now, just a consistent 60% effort for my brain.
I began posting my workouts on my channel, so I'd have a visual to SEE with my own eyes, that I'm getting stronger, and better at yoga/pilates and exercise isnt just about trying to be thin.

I stopped caring how I look in photos when I realized how's many ppl I know who look so freakin good irl butin photos they look "mehh" - i discovered this when I looked at photos of my brother and his girlfriend (professionally taken and all) , i usually don't see many photos of him but in those my thoughts were just, in felt bad for him bc I realized looking at those photos he must think he is not good looking or anything bc he doesn't see himself irl , ya know what I mean? and that realization hit me so hard bc he is actually so good looking irl (i hope this doesn't sound weird since he is my brother, but I think we are allowed to acknowledge if our siblings are objectively attractive) and I used to be so jealous of him (idk if I'm ugly or pretty or whatever, tbh, i just look like me and some days I think I'm actually kinda cute and some days the opposite, but I just used to want to look as conventionally attractive as him)
ever since I have noticed that phenomenon with so many ppl i meet who I think are just so perfect looking but in their photos they sometimes look like a different person (and I don't just mean ugly snapshots, i mean even in their ig pics or sth -they just look miles better irl!)
so yeah that's when I stopped obsessing over it

I just don't agree with "if you look bad in the photo you just looked bad that day" cuz the camera distorts the shit outta you lol I've seen friends of mine look completely normal irl and then look awful in pictures. So much goes into what makes you look bad in a photo, unflattering lighting, angles, camera distortion, etc. Anyway, great video nonetheless!
