    I might be wrong, but it seems like a disadvantage for the rebels to make a big group of different types of ships. Surely it makes more sense to make big groups of all the same ships.
    The diverse groups just let the imperials allocate their dice in the way that suits them, and they get the max benefit out of all of their numbers. If you make a group of just B-Wings, it would be really hard for the imperials to shift that.
    I say this without any experience playing the game though. Am I wrong?
    In any case, this game looks great.

      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому +3

      That's a good point, I can certainly see that. Although while it is ideal to have big groups of all the same ships, it's just a bit more time consuming to get them all together. Also, sometimes you want to put extra ships of any kind in a space just to make it harder for the Empire to clear a sector and gain a bonus order.
      It really is a surprisingly good game with some interesting tactical depth! Thanks for watching :)

    Great video guys, it convinced me to buy the game. Question though (which I think you covered nearer the end of the video), I see little reward from doing the Luke/Vader track as it will cost you more orders to complete than you'll get as bonus orders. Granted they are bonus orders you can use back to back, but they are random orders unlike your normal command orders which you've selected.
    I think it's slightly more worthwhile for the rebels if they have a 'redeem Vader' card as 5 bonus' on a shorter track actually makes more sense. But the Luke track for the imperials is just pointless.
    I had a thought that it might be better to either increase the number of dice rolled from 4 to 5 or increase the bonus orders each get, so it makes the task more rewarding to actually completed.
    Generally when I've played and won I have ignored this track, whereas when I've attempted I've usually lost as wasted orders.
    Would love to know your thoughts on this.
    Cheers, Adam

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  7 років тому +1

      I'd generally agree that this track can end up being largely ignored during some games. For us it's usually been there as a little more of a distraction tactic than a real avenue to victory. If the Light side player starts putting a little pressure here and does well, it's hard for the Dark side player to entirely ignore it. I've found as the Dark side I like to drop a few actions into here early, not so much to try and land the "free actions" for taking out Luke, but more to discourage and distract the Light side player. I dunno, it's not a perfect system but it can be fun if on either side you're able to force the other player to pay attention to it.

      Board Game Replay thanks for your reply on my original comment.
      Just been getting back into the game recently and saw a recent forum thread to improve the importance of the Luke/Vader dual.
      It basically has a reroll perk for whoever has more health which impacts the rest of the battles on the board. Here’s the thread
      boardgamegeek.com/thread/2027743/weve-made-vaderluke-duel-exciting-and-important
      Any thoughts on this?

  • @Wolfvonhinslik

    In my opinion, Flying around swarms of 16+ Ties is the optimum strategy, grants you 5 dice, but robs the opponent from being able to get a bonus order.

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      +The Kwarenteen Good call! This is a really good strategy I think, and one that is often overlooked. Those big swarms are great for deny bonus orders and keeping your forces strong. Though towards the end game, one thing I always try to do if the Rebels rush the Endor track is spread out a couple of ties in front of the Death Star, so they can't just march in and get next to it.

  • @TheTrueGamble
    @TheTrueGamble 8 років тому +3

    best way to win for either side is to not pay ANY attention to the Luke Sky-Darth fight. Otherwise we have been finding that the Empire wins most of the time.
    2 questions: does the empire get a bonus when the death star destroys a fleet? Do tie fighters get to attack an adjacent space right away after being deployed from the executor? And last but not least, is do rebels get to attack with ships upon leaving a fleet and entering the space battle if ties are adjacent?

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      +TheTrueGamble First, to answer your questions...Yes, yes and yes. I've been a part of about 15 games of this one and we've continued to go back and forth. For a while Empire was unstoppable, then someone would try a rush strategy with the Rebels and win a few times. Now after lots of games it really goes either way. It's all about managing the various areas of the board and getting your opponent to respond to your actions. You're right, if one players just blasts down the Vader / Luke track, it's not worth even bothering to chase them and they'll probably get set back because of it. However, putting a little pressure on different areas can force your opponent to respond accordingly. I've had plenty of games where we both slowly chipped away at each other on the Vader / Luke track and it ended up being a razor thin victory.
      Also, take all of this with a grain of salt because at the end of the day you're at the mercy of those dice. All in all, I think it's a really solid game and continues to be fun after lots of plays. The more you learn the game and your opponents, the more interesting it becomes.

    • @TheTrueGamble
      @TheTrueGamble 8 років тому +1

      +Board Game Replay Me and my brother have disagreed with you about the deployed Tie fighters being able to attack right away. Every time we allow it, the empire wins in a blow out.

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      +TheTrueGamble Yeah, I can understand it seeming a little crazy, but it's definitely confirmed by the designer (check the link in the description for the official ruling). I think it's overall just a hard game to nail down on balance seeing as so much relies on dice rolls.

      +Board Game Replay Well if you're the Rebels, wouldn't it make sense to go down the Vader/Luke route in order to Redeem Vader this destroying him and the Emperor? Because it gives the Rebels 5 bonus orders

      +Board Game Replay I do not think you can attack with new deployed Tie fighters, it states in the rules.
      Deploy new Tie fighters to Executor sector OR move any number of Tie fighters to adjacent squares and attack or just attack, not both.

    At 11:25 you deploy TIE fighters and the attack. As I understand the rules when you deploy new TIE's you cannot attack (this was also confirmed by Hasbro on BGG).

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому +1

      Hmm, actually the thread I referred to here in the video was the one where the designer initially clarified the rule, then later Hasbro chimed in and also confirmed it. There were multiple threads though. This is the one I was talking about... boardgamegeek.com/thread/1447610/some-rules-clarifications

      +Dariusz Jasinski Yep, I understand. I believe that thread was first and then later the thread I linked above came out after. It took a few pages before it was confirmed by Hasbro. Either way, hope that helps you enjoy the game more, it certainly did for us! :)

    6:15 I believe you CAN roll five dice here not just the three for the ships moved. Dice are rolled for the group up to a maximum of five.

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      +Glen DeKorne Hmm, I believe that's only true if you have the same ships in that space. When you activate an order card, you're pick ONE ship type to activate. But to your point if you moved say 3 B-Wings into a space with 2 B-Wings and then attacked, you could roll all 5 dice.

    • @glen7567
      @glen7567 8 років тому +1

      +Board Game Replay Absolutely right. I just rechecked the rules and I've been playing wrong this whole time!! I was confused with page 11 which indicates "To attack with fighter ships, roll one die for each fighter in the sector from which you are attacking". But then on page 10 for "each type of fighter" it indicates "you may move any number of (type of fighter). After moving, you may attack an adjacent sector by rolling one die for each (that same type of fighter).
      I stand corrected. thank you for clarifying. Now maybe I can play correctly.

    • @boardgamereplay

    Well Matt, thanks to this I bit the bullet on The Black Series version and thanks to a $20 Amazon gift card I only spent $24. Well worth it to own a game that uses the "multiple simultaneous battles" mechanic from Queen's Gambit and seeing as I will probably never own that game this will do fine plus I like the ending battle of ROTJ.
    I'm looking at variants to make the Luke vs Vader fight more important like the winner of the duel joins the space battle and perhaps provides a bonus when attacking in a group like if a group of TIEs are fighting B-Wings and one of your rolls is a 4 butbecause Vader is with them that 4 becomes a 5 thus destroying it. Another is that if Luke's HP is 2 or lower then using the Force Lightning order will instead convert Luke to the dark side and net the Imperial player 5 bonus orders (Much like the "Redeem Darth Vader" card for the Rebels) as well as an Endor "Push-Back" variant to make it harder for the strike team to destroy the generator.
    Stuff like that to make the game fun and more indepth.

  • @adambiggs731
    @adambiggs731 8 років тому

    I may have noticed incorrectly. But when you used the death star you rolled a 6 and not only did you destroy the ship but you also turned over the marker. Does that mean if you get a 5 it just removes the ships and rolling a 6 destroys the ships and marker??

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      +Adam Bignell Actually rolling a 5 or a 6 gives you the the same result when you're using the Deathstar. You completely destroy the fleet marker and indicate that by flipping it over. Any ships that were on the marker are destroyed as well. It also counts as you clearing a sector, so you even gain a bonus action. Hope that helps! :)

    If I used Death Star order and I rolled two dices. One is 5 and one is 6. Is it I can destroy 2 rebel fleet marker? Moreover, when all the rebel ships are moved out from the fleet marker. Can I direct destroy the section with rebel ships when the Death Star order was activated successfully? Thanks

  • @TheMrLapidus
    @TheMrLapidus 8 років тому

    I played 2 times with this and rebels are overpowered! They have double amount of ships from start and they can easily defeat empire fleet in a few rounds. Do you have any strategy against such an aggressive Rebel Rush? (Rebel moves: move everything out, join fleets, hit tie fighters and chase the star destroyer as fast as they can + turning Vader and get 5 card bonus.. it's an extreamly easy task)

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому +1

      +Bence Kádas Hmm, are you sure you're playing with all the rules clarifications for the Empire? Their ability to deploy 4 Tie Fighters and then attack an adjacent space is really powerful and isn't clear in the rules as written. As you may have seen in this video, we used this to keep the pressure on the Rebels as much as we could (and of course we rolled pretty well). Also the fact that even a single tie fighter can approach the fleet ships and blow them up with a 5 or 6 (granting a bonus order) is really nice as well. If the rebel fleet leaves their fleet ships vulnerable, you can swoop in and hit them really hard. Once those fleet ships are gone, you've got a Death Star that can fire at ANY space on the board. I think the game is all about balancing out your actions. If one playing is hyper focusing on only one thing, it means the other player can gain an advantage elsewhere.

    • @TheMrLapidus
      @TheMrLapidus 8 років тому

      I've seen in your gameplay some other "adjustments" too. For examples: you destroyed a fleet ship and you gaind a bonus card. I could not find this in the rulebook. I mean.. Do you take fleet ships as sectors? (maybe I'm using wrong expressions, because I have the hungarian version)
      "deploy 4 Tie Fighters and then attack an adjacent space is really powerful" Yes, but your star destroyer becomes a clear target. Fresh tie fighters can not move and it's a huge problem!
      "I think the game is all about balancing out your actions." Rebels have advantage in lightsaber fight and they can skip the fight on Endor. Stormtroopers do nothing especially at the start.
      Maybe I should read the whole rulebook in english because the hungarian translation is a mess. (for examples short rules on the bord and in the rules are different)
      Anyway thank you for your help and your advices! I will try to change my strategy, but I guess we have to slightly change some rules to get a more balanced game.. or maybe I will find something in the original rulebook!

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому +1

      +Bence Kádas I understand questioning some of these rule adjustments, that's why I put a reference to the BGG page with these clarifications from the designer (and approved by Hasbro later in the thread). boardgamegeek.com/thread/1447610/some-rules-clarifications
      Those clarifications to the rules include getting bonus orders for destroying a fleet ship. To be clear, you don't get a bonus order for destroying all ships on a fleet marker, but destroying the fleet marker itself gets you the bonus order. It also mentions that you can actually use Tie fighters or the Executor to destroy fleet markers if you move ships adjacent to them. I think without these changes / clarifications the Empire may have been a little weak so I'm glad these were brought up. I just wish they'd make the changes more public so people could know about it!

    how do u get the bonus orders can someone explain to me?

    • @boardgamereplay
      @boardgamereplay  8 років тому

      Bonus orders are given for a few different things in the game. The most common way to gain a bonus order is by eliminating all enemy ships in a particular sector. As soon as you remove the last enemy ship from a sector after an attack, you gain one bonus order. You can also gain multiple bonus orders for destroying certain special enemy ships, killing Luke, or killing Vader, etc. The number of cards you gain for each one is slightly different.
      Hope that helps!

    • @ultrasx1147
      @ultrasx1147 8 років тому
