AMAZING how to play. Sometimes reading a rulebook can be daunting if you're only learning the theory but not actually seeing it happen. This helps tremendously in that regard, so thank you very much!
As someone who enjoys reading rulebooks, I found this particular one difficult to follow. Growing anxious prior to my teach of the game, I'm grateful that I came across your video, as you've explained it with such eloquence! Many thanks; keep up the great content!
I recommend placing the control token over the number of Hoplies required to control a region. That way, it's faster to see if any given region is controlled and by whom, it's easier for new players to understand that the requirement is no longer active for taking control, and you don't have to worry about accidentally knocking the control marker into another region. In other words, it's a cleaner way of placing the marker.
This is a good tip, thanks! The publisher actually pointed this out to me towards the end of putting the video together so I made a quick bit about it right at 3:30 .
Awesome walkthrough.. I actually learned 2 things I had missed... A very small adjustment is needed though. On the "build temple" explanation, it sounds like you can pick any temple on the temple board, not only the next one.
Glad to hear that Jesper, thank you! Good point about the Build Temple thing. I figured the numbered order and my example of grabbing them would be enough, but in retrospect I should have probably said that!
Hello congratulations for the video, I have a question .... Artifacts, (as reported on the action summary card), can only be used in the "REGULAR ACTIONS" phase, but there are some artifacts that have their effect during a Hunt ......... so? Can they be used when the text requires it or what?
Great video, resolved a lot of questions my group had about the rules. One clarification though needed on Achilles special ability... If Achilles is not escorted by Hoplites does he still count as an army due to his special ability raising army strength, or he needs to be in a region with at least one of his own Hoplite for his special ability to kick in;
If you add a new monster to the board during the events phase is the monster card shuffled back into deck or discarded? It's not mentioned in the rules of the event phase. I've shuffled them back since that's how they handled the monsters during the set up and it gives the chance for the monster to evolve. I could be wrong though.
Very nice explanation, I feel like I could probably play this without reading the rules now. I am definitely interested in getting this (might have to wait for funds), especially because of this detailed video. Here's a quick question: the art seems to depict an ancient sci-fi/hi-tech society, but it's hard to tell from my little screen, are there any changes to the mythos? (I'm sure it doesn't actually matter for the game, I was just curious.)
Thank you Nym, I really appreciate you saying that! To answer your question about the art / theme...yes it's an an alternate history with mythology mixed with technology. All the Monsters and Heros are have some sort of advanced technology along with their standard lore. Hope that helps! :)
Nice video, had me double checking some rules. However, you missed the part where a hero receives a glory token after a succesfull hunt corresponding to the regions color where the monster was slain. =)
Great video! I do have two questions you may be able to help me with. First, can heroes share quest spaces? If not, do you leap frog other heroes? Second question is about blessing cards that require you to put one of your used action tokens on them. Do these effectively make you only able to do five special actions on a turn? Also, if that is the case, what happens if you do five actions and not one included the build monument action to reset? Thanks again!
Thank you Dustin! The answer to your first question is yes. The FAQ verifies that you are allowed to have more than one player’s hero occupy the same quest space. The publisher confirmed that there is zero reason to do this as of the base game (as if you're joining a space after another hero, they're going to finish before you) but this rule exists as a “loophole” for possible game effects in future expansions. As for your second question, do you have an example of a blessing card that does this? It's been a little while since I've looked at all the cards! That said, I'd assume you wouldn't be limited to taking a special action on your turn, but I'll have to look into it. On your turn you can only ever take ONE special action so if you didn't have a used action token to place there you could just mark it with something else to acknowledge it's been taken?
@@boardgamereplay Exhausted Fight is the card I am referring to. It tells you to put a used action token on it. I don't have the game handy so I don't remember the exact text. I was just wondering about the quests, because if you take the first spot on your turn, and someone takes the second, you will move down on your turn even with them. You won't get the quest, just wondering if that's how it worked. Thanks again for the video! Playing this tonight and looking forward to it.
When can you draw cards in this game? (besides when you are on an active hunting) Only by placing priests on certain monuments? there is no draw phase anywhere? I have never played this game, but cards looks either scarce, or I have not understand how do you get some
The best tutorial video! I would like to ask about Hermes´ strenght. If the monument is f.e.on 4th lvl, it gives you option to move your army through 3 regions. What does the "army" mean? Army is in my point of view all hoplites on the board. So I realy can move all of them through any 3 regions (neutral or mine) and every hoplite can go anywhere?? Or how it is considered? In some gameplay they moved only one group of hoplites to another region (Hermes on lvl 2). But army is not group or part of army. It is not said anywhere! I don´t know how to play it. It is big advantage if I could move all of my hoplites on the board to different regions.
Hi I have a question about the region attack for the hydra. It attacks all neighbouring regions, does that include the regions connected by the dotted lines?
One question that I had from your explanation of the fights was the card the defender had provided an "Immediately kill a Hoplite from the opposing army." Does that happen when the card was played (that's what I thought from the text), or at the end of the fight as you showed?
Ben Sheppard The “Javelin Volley” card you’re referring to would kill a hoplite immediately after the card was played. The reason I did not show a hoplite being killed is that the defending player did not have more hoplites in the battle than their enemy, so that effect never triggered. That’s why I mentioned that all it did for the defender player is add the 2 strength....hope that helps!
There is an artifact that grants an additional monster movement phase. Is this used in your use artifact action or after the monster phase after a build monument action?
Mark Ellis-Robinson Good question Mark! This artifact can be used immediately after the regular Monster Phase to trigger an additional Monster Phase with the owner of this artifact making all the decisions for the monsters (as if they had taken the Build Monument Action). Hope that helps!
Great video. I have noticed that there appear to be two rules that many people get wrong, but are both clearly stated here and in the rule book. One is that after the build monument step, priests go back to the general resource supply, not back to your priest pool. The second is that you only get one reward from a monster hunt (plus the favor token), not all three. I do have one quick question though, that I have not seen covered. If a player reaches level 5 of a monument and takes a monument control card, but another player is able to take control of the region from them, I'm assuming the new controller of the region has to start back over at 3 turns to win correct? They don't get to slide in an only need two or fewer turns to get the win. This seems obvious, but I just wanted to clarify. Thanks again for the video.
Ryan Chaffee in the video he said that the game ends in 3 turns. so I think that means everyone must try to win before that or get control over the monument because whoever controls it after 3 rounds wins. but i’m also not sure.
Hi there. Great tutorial! Could you tell me please about the "Reinforcements" ability? It's on one of the combat cards, the one with zero power. It reads something like: move any number of hoplites from a neighbouring region to a region where a battle is happening (sth like that). So in English "a" means one, but my friend insists he can bring hoplites from *all* neighbouring regions to reinforce his hoplites that are locked in battle. Which is correct? Thank you
Green retains control. Once a control marker has been placed in a region, the region will always remain in control of one of the players for the remainder of the game.
At 24:17 you say that if the hunt ends unsuccessfully then the hero must take a wound. I can't seem to find that referenced anywhere in the rules. All I see is is the list on page 12 detailing all the ways for a hunt to end.
Ahh, this is a very small rule mentioned at the very bottom right of Page 12. It says "After an unsuccessful Hunt the Hero receives an additional Injury (if possible)." Hope that helps! :)
Board Game Replay I see the problem, I have the rules PDF on my phone and that's what I was looking through, it must not be the final version. That sorts the confusion out! Great video btw
What happens to a played combat card after damaging the monster? Is it discarded or its effects (mostly its text when it has one) could still be activated by cards played in subsequent hunt rounds? Couldn't find an answer to that in the rulebook.
Hello - i have 3 questions: 1.If im starting on Temple region with 2 hoplites required i have temple from the start (and priest too)? 2. SO if im loosing hunt i get 1 wound yea? and what is the price of this when i for example did 1 injur with priest icon ? im getting priest when loosing hunt? and what if i kill the monster? next prize is for me? 3. When i know that monster attack with "special attack" Sorry for my english:)
What happens when all the attributes are at one and receive injuries? Does that put them down to zero? Can hoplite still move or that only affects the hero?
Gil Melo when all attributes have been injured they are just reduced to 1. They can never go below 1. You can still start a Hunt with 3 injuries but if you receive any more injuries the Hunt ends right away. As for the number of Hoplites you can move, that is based on the Leadership attribute of your hero. But again, it can never be reduced below 1. Hope that helps!
Hi. I have a question. When you slay a monster and have to choose between let's say monster's artifact and one normal artifact. Do you get the chance to take a look at both cards and decide or you have to decide what you choose and just if you choose normal artifact you get to draw ? Btw, thanks for the video. Nice work!
George, I believe you can still look at the neutral artifact by drawing the top card and deciding between that and the Monster artifact card. I'll have to check latest FAQ and see if there's a note about this though!
They cannot occupy the same space. If a hero meets the requirements of a space but another hero figure is already on that space, they cannot start that quest. They only way they can start a quest that another hero is on, is by meeting a higher requirement and starting ahead of them. Hope that helps!
Thank you! What happens then if quest slot 1 is taken. Subsequent player joins quest at number 2. When the player occupying 1 has his next turn, he cannot legally progress?
Neale Foulger sorry I missed your second question before. Alarmlion answered correctly though! The only thing I’d add is that there’s really no point in joining a quest after another player has advanced further than you. You’ll just end up wasting hero movement waiting for the other player to finish the quest. If someone joins a quest at a higher stage than you, you’ll be forced to just waste turns waiting for them to finish the quest and getting all the credit. Hope that helps!

Maybe just use the music for quick transitions? Great job though, thanks for your hard work!
Thanks for the kind words...and the note about the music! I had it in there to sort of keep a baseline of audio so you couldn't hear the clips changing that I had to re-record with my voice. I've since changed a bit of the way I do it and it shouldn't be a problem going forward. Thanks again!
sébastien DOLLARD I’m sorry, but I had no plans of doing this as I do not speak French. It is possible to add subtitles to a youtube video so if someone were to provide the translation and subtitle file I could add it to the video!
TrippleZero Are you referring to Used Action Tokens that are used to place on the Special Action you’re taking? Each player has 6 tokens so you always have enough to cover the 6 main spaces...and the 7th space is Build Monument which gives you back all your Used Action Tokens. So there’s no way you can really run out of these tokens. Hope that helps!
...and that 7th one can only be the Build Monument special action (otherwise it'd have cleared all tokens). In other words, you never cover "Build Monument" with a used action token. Does it sound right?
BEST LOH "How to" video by far.
Kind of you to say...thank you Jeremy!
To me it was the best i've seen among other games as well. ❤ It! Thanks!
AMAZING how to play. Sometimes reading a rulebook can be daunting if you're only learning the theory but not actually seeing it happen. This helps tremendously in that regard, so thank you very much!
Johnny Leyenda thanks very much! Really glad this was helpful for you!

Amazing video, I wish you could do a video on the solo mode aspect, but great job anyways. You are the new Rodney Smith
This is one of my favorite games at the moment. Can't wait to get the rest of the expansions!
The Kickstarter for this one certainly went crazy! So many expansions...some really cool looking stuff!
One of the best tutorial i have seen! very easy way explained, no mistakes. after this we are ready to start a game. Thank you
This is one of the nicest explanations I have seen; thanks for it
My prayers for this game to be covered by either Watch it played or you have been answered. Thank you Zeus.
Bob Rock haha, very glad to hear that Bob. Thank you! :)
Good overview. You spoke slowly, methodically, and helped me appreciate and understand this game. Thank you. 🤠

Thanks for making this video, I managed to snag this game on sale for £35 and your video was extremely helpful for learning how to play!!
Bargain
Really clear and concise rules overview. Fantastic work. Looking forward to more of them!
Thanks so much, very glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the video, very clear explanations. I have a game tonight and I think with your video I'm ready to present the game.
Glad to hear that, thank you! Hope your game went well! :)
Glad to see you doing a how to play video. Did a good job.
Thank you Chris! Not sure how many I'll do in the future but it was good experience making this one!
Perfect Tutorial...Thanks A Lot...Any chance you will make the video tutorial for the Solo Campaign?
Great how to play video, particularly the use of multiple examples for various situations.
Awesome walkthrough.. I actually learned 2 things I had missed... A very small adjustment is needed though. On the "build temple" explanation, it sounds like you can pick any temple on the temple board, not only the next one.

BrorMW ooooh my. I can’t believe I missed that! Not sure what happened but thank you for pointing that out. I’ll get working on that correction!
I've added that correction now...Thank you again!
You're welcome. As said had me doublechecking and made me realize that we played it wrong the few times my group have played.

Hi I have a question about the region attack for the hydra. It attacks all neighbouring regions, does that include the regions connected by the dotted lines?
Mark Ellis-Robinson that’s correct, any regions connected by dotted lines are considered connected / adjacent.
This was a great tutorial.

Great video best ever... please do a LOH Solo Campaign and other expansions
This is excellent! Thanks!

Thanks fot your explanation, in the case BATTLE, is neccesary play cards one by one or can put mor than one at same time
Necessary to play one by one

Now all you need is to make a video on how to play Trickerion. I know you want to. ;)
Gil Melo haha, I’m only dipping my toes into the rules videos at this point unfortunately. :)
Great video, thanks.
Thank you for checking it out James!
Really excellent!
Perfect tutorial!
Salutations m'lord, once a hero takes 3 wounds does it die?
Just one question. Can two players legally occupy the same 'number' on a quest space?
They cannot occupy the same space. If a hero meets the requirements of a space but another hero figure is already on that space, they cannot start that quest. They only way they can start a quest that another hero is on, is by meeting a higher requirement and starting ahead of them. Hope that helps!

Nope, he can't. He has to wait until hero on space 2 finishes the quest by going to space 3. He's just blocked for that turn.
Neale Foulger sorry I missed your second question before. Alarmlion answered correctly though! The only thing I’d add is that there’s really no point in joining a quest after another player has advanced further than you. In the German rulebook, it says that it's allowed to have multiple heros on one quest space. Maybe there is an updated english rulebook as well?
Probably, you were paid for this. And, you should have been. Excellent job. Thank you.
My wife isn't a big fan of Blood Rage lol but she LOVES Champions of Midgard (I call it Blood Rage for couples). Would she like Lords of Hellas?
Great game!
Nicely done m8 thx
Where could buy it
REALLY well done rules overview! So glad you covered this game. I might consider ditching the background music though - I don't think it adds anything to your video and it's a little distracting to hear you talk over the top of it.
I opened the rulebook, almost shot myself then went straight to your video... You saved my life sir...
Haha very glad it was helpful for you! Hope you enjoy the game as well!
Any chance to have french translation, or french spoked party ?
sébastien DOLLARD I’m sorry, but I had no plans of doing this as I do not speak French. It is possible to add subtitles to a youtube video so if someone were to provide the translation and subtitle file I could add it to the video!
You need to link this on BGG
It's actually already up on BGG Roland...you can find it here! - boardgamegeek.com/video/177754/lords-hellas/how-play-board-game-replay :)
What happens if you have no activation tokens?
TrippleZero Are you referring to Used Action Tokens that are used to place on the Special Action you’re taking? Each player has 6 tokens so you always have enough to cover the 6 main spaces...and the 7th space is Build Monument which gives you back all your Used Action Tokens. So there’s no way you can really run out of these tokens. Hope that helps!
So if someone uses all 6 of them, the 7th one has to be done
...and that 7th one can only be the Build Monument special action (otherwise it'd have cleared all tokens). In other words, you never cover "Build Monument" with a used action token. Does it sound right?
Yan Hey Yeah, that’s right!
It's pronounced Del-feye (like wifi) not Del-fee.
Thanks for the video!
