    You do get the loot if the Foe flees. Nice video on showing how the game is played. I really like this game.

      I think you’re right about the loot. Otherwise you might auto lose a scenario that requires you to find a certain loot card if the enemy ran away with it ;)

    a really fun game. Glad to see you do the sewers as I haven't tried that one yet, caves is hard enough (or maybe my dice are broken)

      Sewer certainly mangles me more often ;)

      All of my dice are broken then. 😂😂😂 “paying anything to roll the dice just one more time.” “Don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling”

    I overlooked this game at first but now I'm thinking stronge maybe.

      It’s not perfect, and can be a bit random, but also really fun.

    Looks like a very fun game reminds me of a game are used to have that I no longer own called dungeoneer

    • @OneStopCoopShop

      I used to play the heck out of Dungeoneer. Totally agree the feel is a bit similar here, especially with all of it being so modular and combinable.

      Wow, I was thinking the exact same thing, although I think I like this better.

    Finally someone is doing a play through of this! I didn’t get in on the KickStarter but I was able to get a copy of the Caves box through the “ Game Steward” site.
    This is a really good game. The separate engagement round of combat takes some getting used to but it makes thematic sense if given some thought. Also, the three die check system along with the floating target gives a nice curve to the probabilities.
    Very glad to see your playing this one. BTW... is Collin still active on The channel ?

      The combat mechanics (and how thematic they are) is one of the big things that made me seek it out to review.
      Colin is on indefinite break from the channel. He could return some day, but has no plans to do so at this time

      That’s too bad about Colin. Glad you are continuing the channel... I bought a lot of my games from Colin’s top solo games list. BTW... After watching your playthrough I picked up one some things I was doing incorrectly. That scenario looked really difficult.

      @OneStopCoopShop  5 років тому +3

      My own best solo list, in Colin style, should be happening sometime this summer.
      The scenario isn’t hard to survive, since if you time out you technically “win”, but it’s tough to get a good score. If I hadn’t been greedy here, and had fled from the Newcomer and used the fleeing to run out time, I would have been fine I think.

    You couldn't use the Salvo at 26:30 AFTER the roll. You can only use those skills AFTER you roll if they have a "!" icon.

    I enjoyed the play through. Thank you. In campaign mode what happens when you lose a scenario?

    • @OneStopCoopShop

      That's one of the parts I don't love. Usually you just have to replay it. I wish they had found a way to make it like Arkham Horror LCG or other games where you suffer for your failure but still continue on. But that's a fairly minor complaint.

      Got it. Thank you for the reply.

    That was a good try! I thought you were going to make it till everything took a turn near the end.
    Just so you know, Fail results on ranged attacks don't mean the attacker gets hit; instead, it's friendly fire and the attacker hits a melee hero (for the usual 1 wound).
    Since the game shipped, the designers have said that all heroes are supposed to have disadvantage when the party is surprised, not just melee heroes. The end result of the battle with Skull would've been the same, but the first round would've just been two Advance results.
    If you run a staff user, you may want to consider a talent with an ability that reduces damage from Trade Blows results. I think each set has one or two. The staff is actually the best weapon at landing hits, even with a penalty on the roll, but a lot of them will be trades.

      Thanks so much! I definitely read that section of ranged combat, then promptly forgot it. Not sure if that'll work out better or worse for my sad pincushions/melee fighters!
      I'm happy to hear that it's all disadvantage during a surprise round. It seemed a little fiddly the other way, with some heroes suffering and others not.

    • @TheDragonScholar
      @TheDragonScholar 5 років тому +1

      No problem!
      Lucky for me, my archer's only pinged another hero once or twice so far, although she's often using support abilities in place of taking a shot.
      I agree surprise is a lot simpler to remember the new way. I think the designers were concerned about parties full of ranged attackers not having to worry about being surprised, too.
      One thing I forgot, Salvo (Focussed) actually has to be used before you roll, so it's a gamble. (War Javelin does have the best Advance range out of all the weapons, though.) Abilities can only be used after a roll if they have the red exclamation point icon that you can see on both abilities on Aggression, for example.

    I think you forgot to test the second hero on the barrier when entering the filter room around the 16:00 mark. The card clearly states to test each hero.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  5 років тому +2

      Chris Bosch That’s because the first character got a critical success (beating her roll by 2 or more), so she was able to show the other character how to get past without incident.
      I mention this around the 16:45 mark or so.

    Great video, but my understanding is that the enemy's -1 modifier is actually a positive thing for you, you would hit him with 12 instead of 13

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  5 років тому +2

      I'm pretty sure that's not right. On every card in the game, a positive number is helpful, and a negative hurts. Look at the encounters that have + values for when you are alert to a trap, or - values when you are careless.
      Along the same lines, the crazy knight at the end of the video is -2 in both types of combat (before the modifier from the special knight card). I think it would be an odd choice to make your main nemesis the easiest to hit of all :)

    • @bgm-1961
      @bgm-1961 5 років тому +3

      The enemy's -1 modifier REDUCES your die roll by one. That's not a positive thing as the higher you roll, the better you will do.
