yesss what a punchin' version. Love Mattacks style, straight and very personal
So cool to hear Simon Nicol so crunching on electric guitar....
Dave lovely fucking Swarbrick....rest your beautiful soul.
Fairport on fire here...
This is, feedback and all, the definitive version - Simon does sing it best.
Wow, dig that ballsy vocal, the whole thing fairly rips along , love the album version but this is soooooo good ,a different animal .
I have to agree, it's an excellent version of Matty
Very very good!!!!
Such an awesome version,
brilliant energy!
Thanks for posting. :-)
I see your simon and raise you three Daves
Thanks and posting......
Thank you for sharing. Intense version of Matty.
Musical genius
@olliemelodeonman It's a bold statement, but I think this might be the definitive version! And yes, I'll be uploading more from this show.
Nice version
very good.......................................................................................
how comes Dave Mattacks doesn't appear in any list of the Greatest Rock Drummers? so inventive and aggressive, totally jazz-inflected. What this guy plays here is on the same level as Ian Paice, Phil Collins etc. - and Simon Nicol is the one who sings this song best..
I'm 12 and I love this song and the band itself.
Brilliant
OOOh, like this version. Always liked this song best with a bit of heavy guitar, as Maartin Allcock played it with them much later on.
Scorching version! Not heard this before - been a fan for *cough*, uh, quite a while…👍
Nobody could ever outdo Sandy Denny vocally but I actually love this. I've always wondered why Lord Darnell of Sandy's version becomes Lord Arnold in Simon's?
This version of the song is basically Celtic Free Bird 2 years before Free Bird was a thing
Sharing tomorrow with Thanks! Folk with Poke!
Saw Dave Swarbick play at Dallows in Wagga Wagga in 1992 or 1993, a smoke and drink never too far away, I had a chat with him and asked if he could play this or any other Fairport stuff but it wasn't in the set. Let's face it he was probably over it and into new things.
Goodun
Somehow i can imagine Primus playing this!
great share
total agreement best arrangement by far. Cor!
Interesting. Never heard it performed this way before...
Heavy as fuck! Love how Mattacks wallops the drums!
Fairport on fire there...
Posting +Thanks...
Waaaaaaaawaaaaa
Damn!!! This make the hair stand up on the neck, doesn't it?
後半ROVOみたい。スゴ過ぎる
Well they are traditionally a warlike nation...
Fantastic version, even better than the excellent studio version. Makes me wonder if I am under rating the post Thompson version of the band. Did they ever rock this hard again?
There are fiddle players.
And then there is Swarb.
Best ever!
I know this is blasphemous but I have never loved Sandy Denny as much as I'm supposed to, I always found her too restrained, as if she were afraid to let go. I think how you feel about Sandy-era Fairport depends on which you think is the key word in "folk rock." Certainly Fairport with Sandy were terrific in making folk music "relevant," (and I do prefer Sandy Denny to Maddy Prior's rather cold vocals for Steeleye Span) but freed of her timidity the boys discover a greater energy in music written before electricity. This is my favorite rendition of the 12 or so Matty Groves I know, Brilliant!
Thanks for the honesty, but I strongly disagree.
I disagree,Sandy could really rock, she was very versatile.
@@bobatkins9162 Point me to something where Sandy rocks - Strawbs? Fotheringay? Fairport? her solo stuff? Do you prefer the album version of Matty to this?
Mr Swarbrick seems fairly proficient, although one feels that he needs some classical technique and perhaps a proper violin
you jest i take jerry?
I reckon so
Crap....
Troll much?
