Missed the initial challenge, but a friend was selling their Kia and we desperately needed a car. Had to go through like 3 insurances and get the ignition replaced just to get insurance. This was less than a year ago, too. Def one of the longest lasting and widespread “challenges”

Your partner isn't supposed to do everything for you, and if they do they aren't helping you to become a better person to do things for yourself. That literally would cause someone to cling onto them more and feel like they can't do anything without that other person around.
i mean i kinda see why it's an important trait for a partner to help out with little things, but for real? people don't always have to do that? and to ruin a relationship over that? god damn
An orange? Absolutely not. The dishes, the floors, appointments, Lamaze class, etc are proof you're giving 90% and they're giving 10. Of course, a person who won't take care of you when you are sick or buy groceries when you are tired is 100 percent never going to peel an effing orange for you. Or replace an empty toilet paper roll... A far worse crime.
Here's a test! Tell your partner you've lost your phone and need to call someone, urgently. Then see if they let you use their phone. Not that I advise playing juvenile mind games on the person you love, but hey, if they won't let you look at their phone, something's wrong.
This is why not everyone should have a social media account. Dumb challenges and ruining relationships based on online validation. True love doesn't need a trivial test
It sounds an awful lot like stupid ads that I still see in the side bars on websites, like at an eMail checking site. It has been over 20 years since I first saw any of them, but I have a vague feeling that my parents told me to *NEVER* click on those since they'd install viruses or try to gyp (scam) you.
Also I’m not sexist but most people doing this are girls and they’re pretty dumb (not the girls that are pretty dumb, the girl that are doing it) because I’m a minor and I literally know what there’s nerves in the teeth yes, and shaving the teeth makes it closer to the nerves, that explains why they were feeling “pain” when eating ice cream
11:32 I remember when this trend was going on in my school. I am currently in 11th grade, highschool. This was back when I was merely a freshman, and I remember kids stealing soap/hand sanitizing dispensers, ceiling tiles, chair legs, gate bars.. Even one kid stole an entire URINAL. How they did this? I have no idea. It was absolutely wild. The teachers had to go around and lecture every class to stop this behavior or they would be arrested.
I remember it when I was in 11th grade. Students were stealing soap/hand sanitizing dispensers, desks, cafeteria trays, and 2 bathroom stall doors. What's worse was that they walked out of the school with these things and our principal didn't do a thing about it.
seeing trauma dumping described as "someone telling you their problems" is so frustrating and sad. venting isn't trauma dumping. trauma dumping is when someone dumps all their trauma on you in an overwhelming and unwanted way. it's literally self explanatory. i hate how the internet keeps bastardizing psychological terms like this :/ its also rly harmful to teach ppl that the simple act of venting is something as heavy as trauma dumping, encouraging them to never talk to ppl they love/in their lives about their problems. Ugh
A lot of women say they want men to open up and such, yet when you do they do not like it. I get it if its traumadumping, but just saying you feel sad about x thing in life is enough for too much to like you less. Me and my friends are struggling as mostly children of immigrant families to open up to eachother. We try to support eachother, but except for the few female friends I have, I have never noticed women liking you being vulnerable. Its hard fighting the notion that being vulnerable = weak, but me and my friends try. Just wish others didnt make it as hard as it is to fight against.
Totally agree, I got accused of trauma dumping by a former "friend" because I vented about a disrespectful client at work. Like what? That wasn't trauma, that was a mild annoyance lmao
Love the videos, but I've got two "pro" tips: 1. A tutorial IS an educational video and vice versa. If the guy stealing Kias posted the hotwiring video as an educational video, that video served as a tutorial teaching others how to hot-wire cars. 2. As a past automotive journalist, I'll share a tip Hyundai's marketing team shared with me a few decades ago: "It's 'Hyundai' like 'Sunday/sundae.'" Keep up the great work! 😀👍

Why can't they just talk about it with the person they're with instead of immediately jumping to "I would dump them" or worse "I would ghost them," seriously just have a conversation. If it was about the person they're with not being willing to talk about whatever it was or getting offended about it being brought up, then I could understand, but just immediately breaking up with someone because of something like "they accidentally got some crumbs on their shirt" or "they get out of the car both feet at once" is just ridiculous.

When I drive past them I turn off my radio and give them a moment of silence. I'm not religious, I just have respect for the lives and the people they were.
Agreed. It’s been nothing but another thorn on the side of the internet with the rise of decreasing attention spans of individuals and horrible trends, such as the ones presented in this video.
Not even close. I don't see a reason why not to peel the orange but it is no reason to break up with someone for especially since a lot of them were pretty lighthearted about it. But there are many people in the trend that were rude about peeling the orange which I can see turning into a breakup
BACK IN MAH DAY We had a saying whenever you said you wanted to do something that other people were doing, you would get hit with: "If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?" And I feel like that sums up TikTok trends like these perfectly. A bunch of people that say "Yeah, actually."

Basing an entire relationship off of an orange... Yep, sounds like TikTokers. If i ask my husband for an orange, i expect an orange. We're both adults, i can peel my own orange. Unless i explicitly ask him to peel it. It's just manipulation to not explicitly ask for something then base an entire relationship off it, ugh.
to be honest the orange peel test is a good test but in reverse, if the person breaks up with you because you dont peel the orange you are much better off without them
If I understood the video correctly, the people who films the tiktok explicitly says that he wants a peeled orange not only asking for an orange, but people were blaming the people who asked for it because peeling an orange doesn't really represent the commitment of your partner to your relationship. I personally don't care about it, like my partner can pretty much peel an orange but act bad in serious situations and vice-versa so it's not like this is a good indicator for a healthy relationship or not, more like an imaginary test that makes you feel good about it when it works the way you thought about it in your head ..
I'm 33 and I never got TikTok. Some of the people there probably think I'm a carcass in line for a coffin if they even think I exist. This is so stupid, but have you ever tried to tell one blind from birth what color looks like? Earlier, when I said I was 32 in a game of TF2, a few people were like "did you hear something?" "must have been the wind" They may have been joking, but how much truth of a person's beliefs is actually in the jokes they say? Text isn't the best way of explaining jokes, and they said that in text chat. I get that there's some kind of a divide between young and old, I used to not be able to imagine being 16, but that was when I was about 5. Any idea of being 40 or older was even more unimaginable. Now I feel like I could get to be any age up to 120, but no more.
I remember my Dad got mad and forbade me and my sister from ever downloading TikTok because of the stealing from School challenge, because my dad experienced entire worksites(He builds schools). I got my teeth filed down by a doctor, THE RIGHT WAY. But my friend was against doctors so she said “if a doctor can file it down I can also do it” she has mostly fake teeth now due to her teeth being so damaged
so true. i think this kind of "test" isn't useful in any point of the relationship. At the beginning, people will be kind of fake anyways so they will do things that they will no longer do once they get more comfortable anyways. By the time you're in an established relationship, you should already know if the person you're with will or will not do something for you without needing to test them. If you still not sure whether or not they are willing to peel an orange for you and need to test them, then you don't know the person you're with very well lol
you can tell all the ppl filing their teeth have never had cavities... once you feel what its like for something to touch a hole in your teeth, you understand just how uncomfortable and horrifying that trend _truly_ is. as someone w abysmal dental health and countless fillings/root canals, i could never even think of wishing this on someone let alone willingly doing it to myself 😶
My teeth are incredibly fucked, probably getting worse by the day because the earliest dentist appt I could manage is months from now, and every time I feel even a tinge of pain in one of my teeth I panic thinking about the fact they're slowly eating through to the point where it will really start hurting, I have nightmares about my teeth falling out constantly, long stort short I can't imagine someone willingly damaging their teeth like that, it's perhaps the most stupid trend I've ever seen of all of these and the one that pisses me off the most
I never had problems with my teeth but imo I'm glad they learned it the hard way. Teeth are very important to us, we eat, talk, and to some people do other things with it. I just don't know why they don't think before doing these trends.

Most of these trends are seriously why I lost my ex girlfriend, the icks and everything truly get to people’s heads and they start to “infect” other aspects of their life. they’re videos that lead people into depression or jealousy and it can turn a healthy relationship into a very toxic one just because of a trend or depressed video.
Was also a victim of the Kia challenge, my car was stolen after being broken into twice a couple months after finally paying it off. Instead of enjoying that my paid off car, I ended up paying for multiple window replacements until it was stolen entirely.
It's insane that people would do way worse things just for views and likes. As if they don't care about their lives and they think they will be respawned somewhere like a Video Game character.
They might actually think that without realizing it. I was that dumb once, but not with TikTok, it was in 2005 / 2006 when I was 14. I had been playing Nintendo so much that I looked for a pause button... ... While I was riding a bicycle. Thankfully, I didn't crash; nobody but my Dad was around and it was a level road.
I remember when a guy was pranked when his friend was doing the Boiling water challenge. He poured boiled water on his friends head and the victim got 3rd degree burns and was in the hospital for a while. It was awful. Risking your friends life for views is awful. (I wish I was lying but I’m not.)
It's fucking wild that people are turning cartel torture into social media challenges. I seriously can't wait for TikTok to be wiped clean from the App Store.
We've had tamper proof packaging for all the items mentioned here for decades. Why in hell does the US have food on shelves that anyone can just open and contaminate with whatever?
9:20 I agree that breaking up over an orange is pretty dumb, but the trend can actually help reveal any red or green flags. I’ve come across multiple videos where the guy would come off as condescending and downright rude. I get that it’s just an orange, but if they get like that over a stupid orange, then it just doesn’t look all that promising to me… Not peeling the orange shouldn’t determine what happens to the relationship - it’s the reaction.

They destroyed toilets and exit signs
At my school they stole the bathroom stall doors
Man I feel bad for ya -_-
I remember it when I was in 11th grade.

Ugh
yeah alot of people are taking alot of things into extremes. lack of any actual social interaction has erased nuance in conversations.

Love the videos, but I've got two "pro" tips:
1. A tutorial IS an educational video and vice versa. If the guy stealing Kias posted the hotwiring video as an educational video, that video served as a tutorial teaching others how to hot-wire cars.
2. As a past automotive journalist, I'll share a tip Hyundai's marketing team shared with me a few decades ago: "It's 'Hyundai' like 'Sunday/sundae.'"

to be honest the orange peel test is a good test but in reverse, if the person breaks up with you because you dont peel the orange you are much better off without them
If I understood the video correctly, the people who films the tiktok explicitly says that he wants a peeled orange not only asking for an orange, but people were blaming the people who asked for it because peeling an orange doesn't really represent the commitment of your partner to your relationship.
I personally don't care about it, like my partner can pretty much peel an orange but act bad in serious situations and vice-versa so it's not like this is a good indicator for a healthy relationship or not, more like an imaginary test that makes you feel good about it when it works the way you thought about it in your head ..

yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.

And my friends wonder why I never watched tiktok
Depends on the fyp, sometimes it's actually helpful if you know what you're doing
TikTok is a good app though I love the videos they are so funny it depends what fyp you have ngl
The "ick" garbage have gone way too far. Kind men who dare to be vulnerable are the BEST ❤
This is why I love Ian Curtis. Even in music, it is not very common for a man to be brutally honest about how he feels.

People never stop and think before saying or doing anything.
I'm a millennial, and I'm grateful that the I grew up before TikTok even existed.

I agree, it seems like critical thinking is pretty much unheard of these days. Despite growing up with the internet (I'm gen z btw), I find these so-called "trends" absolutely ridiculous.
