• Dream Theater - Six De...
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is the sixth song and title track on the album of the same name, written and performed by progressive metal band Dream Theater. Though the song is essentially broken up into eight movements on separate tracks, the song itself is 42 minutes long and takes up the entire second CD of the album
I. Overture
II. About To Crash
III. War Inside My Head
IV. The Test That Stumped Them All
V. Goodnight Kiss
VI. Solitary Shell
VII. About To Crash (Reprise)
VIII. Losing Time (Grand Finale)
The first movement, Overture, is an instrumental, which means it doesn't describe any of these disabilities, and the lyrics for the seventh movement. About To Crash tells of a girl (Degree 1) who has one of the most well-known of all mental illnesses: Bipolar Disorder. War Inside My Head tells the story of someone (Degree 2) who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, as some soldiers do after war. The Test That Stumped Them All tells about a patient (Degree 3) that is suffering from schizophrenia. Goodnight Kiss is about a mother (Degree 4) who has lost her child, in one form or another, and is suffering from post-partum depression. Solitary Shell tells about a person (Degree 5) that most likely has Asperger syndrome. About to Crash (Reprise) carries on from where About to Crash left off. This time the song is sung from the sufferer's point of view and describes her going through another manic episode and Losing Time is about a girl (Degree 6) suffering from dissociative identity disorder, previously called Multiple Personality Disorder.
In Grand Finale, the lyrics advise the listener to be more understanding of the people who carry these and similar afflictions, and to accept them as they should be. This section, in which the degrees described by the song are summed up in six lines: Deception of fame (Degree 3: The Test That Stumped Them All), Vengeance of war (Degree 2: War Inside My Head), Lives torn apart (Degree 4: Goodnight Kiss), Losing oneself (Degree 6: Losing Time), Spiraling down (Degree 1: About To Crash (and Reprise)) and Feeling the walls closing in (Degree 5: Solitary Shell).

This whole album is, by any composers standard, a musical masterpiece.
yea
There's a live version of this where the band is backed by an orchestra. Would highly recommend checking it out!
Yeap: the "SCORE" edition.
very cool
The crazy thing is that live version is even better than this studio version. Not a note is missing... Crazy !
I prefer the studio version because Petrucci isn't playing during the first song or two.
Fun fact. Dream Theater always starts their albums with the last note of the last song from their previous album. Listen to that final stretched note on this and it connects perfectly with the song As I Am from their next album, Train of Thought. P.s. As I Am ROCKS!
CORRECTION: not always. Only for 4 albums and this and the next are a part of that.
not always. that trend started from metropolis part 2 and ended in Octavarium
wow thats a cool fun fact
@@vianhoho19 you’re right. I actually thought it continues beyond Octavarium.
@@KhaledAkbik well no you know 😉 "The story ends where it began"
This turned into a great day. Having my lyric's video get unblocked so people can actually see the work I put into it.
God bless you brother
We appreciate your work, tyvm!
Great work and nice to put in some pictures of a band in different eras in the instrumental parts. Young and new John Petrucci looks pretty different and John Myung doesn't age which is common fact that we know. :)
Wish you all the best in life...you are a great person 🙏
Thx for the great work on this classic!🤟🏻🙏🏻
If anyone asks me which Dream Theater album is my favorite, it's Scenes from a Memory, but if they ask me which one I've listened to the most, it's this one. The seriousness of the lyrics, and the melodies, are just superb.
Definitely my DT all time favorite. Miss the good old days when they wrote more meaningful songs with stories and messages behind them..
DT is still my favorite band by far since 1992
You guys shoulda watched the live version from the Score DVD in 2006. Seeing the orchestra play this live is absolutely astonishing
thats really cool!
I agree. I happened to be in Radio City Music Hall that night and indeed saw it live. Octavarium was amazing as well.
Astonishing... Love that word... (Album hehe)
I believe that's Mike Portnoy's children at the beginning of the "Goodnight Kiss" part.
OMG!. This was just a mind blow.. Thanks a bunch Erik. My Asperger just woke up and cheering this. Thanks a lot for this
I have Asperger’s too and love dream theater
Amazing, thoughtful and emotional reaction from the both of you. This is probably one of DT's most emotional songs covering mental health in a most independent manner. From James's emotional vocals to the complete musical masterclass driving the emotions through every note. I know this rather well and I still get chills and goose bumps everything I hear it. Great job on the video Erik, your hard work is appreciated.
One of my all-time favorites! Thanks!
BTW, James LeBrie is the only vocalist. Mike Portnoy did the high-pitched part in The Test That Stumped Them All, but otherwise, it's all James.
cool!
I believe Petrucci did vocals on Solitary Shell and Portnoy did vocals on War Inside My Head too.
That part is definitely James. Other than that petrucci and portnoy have backing vocals all over the place
Sorry. I may not have been clear; I meant that Petrucci and Portnoy do backing vocals.
For me this is one of the craziest composition of all time.
Finally a reaction that is not interrupted every 2 seconds, thank you 😁
The Score version is AMAZING!!!
Most incredible mix of orchestra style music and rock even just during the overture part live they put together the actavarium orchestra hand-picked from orchestras around the world and went on their 20-year anniversary tour called score it's incredible seeing that live
This is the best, you hear me? THE BEST REACTION from you guys!!!! Appreciate it sooo much!!!!
WOOOOOWW NEVER THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE REACTING TO THIS... TIME TO STAY TUNED ON YOUR CHANNEL FOR MOREEEE....
Got damn how i miss Mike Portnoy…. DT has never been the same since he left 😭😭
Mike Portnoy shared the vocals in The Test That Stumped All.
Great job you two!! This has to be your longest reaction ever!! In my opinion, this is my favorite DT album!! So glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks for the thoughtful, and caring reaction Travis and Suzie. This was a long one and you did it justice. I think I'll buy some merch to support you guys. Love ya keep rocking!
I've seen Dream Theater 6 times! 5 times in Los Angeles and 1 time in El Paso Texas! each show from these guys just got better & better! they are from plant "Blow Your Mind" they are simply the best at what they do! #1, I can't wait to see them again!
One of the best concept album of all time...:-)
Hear it nearly every day on my way to the office. Since 20 years❤❤
I play it on my work to work almost daily as well!
You two going on this journey was hopefully magical, emotional and thought provoking for you. Music is such a dynamic thing and it’s pure emotion brought to sound. This entire piece is truly emotional, tragic, uplifting and gorgeous
That's why it's called Overture. It's an instrumental over view of the whole composition.
I have heard parts of this before, but never the whole piece at once.Susie - your take on the intro was right on the money. It is a summary of all six sections.‼️
thank you
@@TheWolfHunterZ Thank you for that reaction and every other reaction..
@@willasacco9898 I second
There is live version guys 😅 yes, all of it in one shot 😅
Thanks for the lyrics Erik! And thank you two for your awesome reaction and message! An amazing piece of music and exactly what I needed today! You have the best music faces!!!
I love you guys, you always react great music !, You have to keep listening to dream theater, they have a lot of great songs!.
42 minutes spending to listen it was one of the best in my life. Absolutely incredible Masterpiece ❤👍🖐
What a brilliant and depressing concept album. But man, is it with the trip. I am looking forward to your lyric video, Erik🤟
Really appreciate you guys positivity and understanding comments. Like to see people so aware of these things
and caring so much. I personally identify with Solitary Shell the most. High functioning Aspy with a niece with Autism.
The very end where it fades out slowly is used to open the next album as a fade in
Another cool fact. The song In The Name of God, the last note on that song Jordan Rudess played with his nose.
I just wanted to thank you for doing so many DT reactions because they are one of my top band's hands down. A day does not go by without listening to them. Also, I want you to know how much I enjoy your channel!!! I like how real you guys are. I can see, hear and feel how genuine you both are!! Keep it up
Just the snare on this album is enough !!!!! Great reaction y'all ... loved it ... This album was a masterpiece, and they touched on this again with "The Enemy Inside" on their Title Album 'Dream Theater'
Proud to be a Majesty/DT Fan since the beginning! Greetings to all DT fans out there ! :-)
Your reactions are the best. Your facial expressions make them so authentic.
I appreciate the understanding and respect you guys have for Dream Theater. My all time favorite band, so I’m glad you guys are able to see and appreciate what they offer to the world of music.
Wonderful reaction !! I was lucky enough to see this performed live in London .. didn’t know the meaning of the song until later .. they didn’t pull any punches with the lyrics in this piece
thank you for listening and reacting to song - not many are so brave. i recently discovered it and it quickly became one of my favorites.
An epoch masterpiece.
well done Erik!
thanks eric, and thanks to you guys for the reaction
I saw them do this live on one of the 10 times I seen them live. It was amazing. The first part was just a track they played when they came back from intermission.
Thank you so much for putting the lyrics, This is disc number 2 which I talked on 'The Glass Prison' reaction video. James LaBrie's vocals really put him on the highest level with this masterpiece. Portnoy his drumming and also as a vocalist and the mixture of the lyrics from Petrucci and Portnoy is just our of this world. So many good memories listening to this.
See you guys later!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Damn.. Goodnight kiss always gets me off guard...
Man, you guys truly do what no other reviewers do with this stuff. Very nice!
Goodnight kiss and solitary shell are amazing songs
I love the fact that you love Dream Theater as much as we do.
Love you guys and your reactions. This song is so huge and so relatable and DT has always been my favorite band. Glad you enjoyed!!!
Awesome reaction !!! Thanks Erik !!! (maybe next one.. Octavarium....) hint hint
I did send The Glass Prison to them about a month ago and should be available soon.
I just stumbled upon you're guys' channel and your passion for the music is so clear it reminded me of when I first heard the album and was soo mesmerized, bedazzled and high on the music. Thank you ! Keep the love alive
I really enjoyed taking this 42 minute journey with both of you. It was like hearing it for the first time again. I felt both of you nailed the analysis of this mega epic right in the head.
excellent work Eric thank you
sound is quite compressed on this video. as for the song, man it is just so incredible!!!
Oh yes!!! The outro of this grand epic is the intro to the next album, Train of Thought.
This opys should be in a movie! Seen them twice and I've never seen them do this one. Pity for me, bully for who ever has.
I feel like I'm listening to my uncle sobolofsky when he was playing in the sixth Symphony of the German Orchestra doing the sybrowsky and Lisk version of mendelssohn's Promenade so electrifying but all the compositions Dream Theater band members are bringing forth the fruit of all the mystifying and elaborations of the structures of symphonic variations combined into collaborations of undeniable and Mystikal elements of musical expositions
Best video in your channel. Tank you from Italy 🙏🇮🇹
When I listened this for the 1st time .....I said to myself ....what ....??? and then , listened 12 times to begin to understand this masterpiece , in my opinion the most extremely progressive music I've ever heard ...
You guys need to do Octavarium from DT. Another long-track killer song
Amazing!! 🤘🏻
Great job, amazing song, incredible band! Masters!!!!🙏🏻🤟🏻
I’m so happy guys that you are taking core Dream Theater epic, hope you’ll do more from them.
If you want suggestion from them, As I Am is the go-to.
congrats for your 101k followers! Maybe the longest DT song if we put aside The Astonishing.
You are some ambitious sum-bitches to tackle this one, no doubt. I was fortunate enough to see them do this at Radio City Music Hall with a full orchestra. Holy moley was that something. Cheers!
WOW! Erik what a fabulous job you've done ✔️
Amazing work Eric!
"Acid Rain " by Liquid Tension Experiment is another good one I enjoy.
i really appreciate u guys finishing the song up to the last second♥️♥️
Fantastic job my friends!!!!
You guys are the Best,i've always love your reactions.
Great guys !🤟
"Those who were dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."
WOW ERIK!! YOU'RE AWESOME!!
Great review guys! i mean, the whole album is a masterpiece… but the SDOIT Suit is an awesome journey all by itself!
Amazing Video ! Beast Period
Straight to Train of Thought!😀
Hi there, a follow your reactions, especialy on DT and TU for this react, i have a girl with possibly autism and seeing my favorite band 20 years ago still being recognized for their genious and for bringing this issues to life is amazing!
I love your reactions to DT, and the vibe U two give is amazing!
I think my favorite part of this whole track is the solo section in “The Test that stumped them all”
They managed to make each individual section feel so “schizophrenic” compared to what came before and after it.
It’s such a beautiful example of conveying disjointed, overwhelming tension through song.
Amazing! MORE Plisss
I absolutely love the song, but i have to comment that i'm really touched by how you guys talk about the mental health aspect brought up in the lyrics. You're good people.
Gotta do every live version the play from score 2006 so good
Ok, only because this album cannot be split into different parts, you must listen to Metropolis Pt 2: Scenes From a Memory album in it's entirety, with lyrics as well. This entire album is based upon a mystery story that the band wrote. Y'all have actually listened to one of the songs live called Beyond This Life (the one with the improvised section.) This album is considered their best by many fans and rightfully so.
Simply the best.
One of my favorit DT's albums..been listening to them since 1999/2000. greetings from Indonesia
Iya syggg
I've never had a kid but Goodnight Kiss always makes me cry
Also..check out meanstreak. 3 of the members are each married to members of dream theater. Female thrash baby
love her 😂
Nice omage to The Rush album hemispheres at the very end there in the form of that Kong that goes out into forever.
Good choice for reaction :)
275 time signature changes.
Thanks Erick
Greatest prog met song ever written....
Hands Down...
Now u gotta do the whole Scenes From a Memory album in one video lol
I find it amazing that the SDOIT album was the follow up to SFAM. Talk about creativity and ambitiousness!
amo vocês 😍 continuem com os reacts do dream theater e Liquid tension experiment , vocês são fodas , um beijo direto do Brasil 😍😍🇧🇷
Perfeito.
It's time for you guys to react to the Metropolis pt2 the whole album. It'll be wayyy fun
