My first exposure to Traveller was TNE. I was in college in the early to mid-90s and through that time I ran several one-shots and a few campaigns, one lasting several years. I really enjoyed the post-apocalyptic feel of the game and rebuilding society. I loved Fire, Fusion, and Steel for all the building crunch that anyone could ask for. I'd love to see more TNE content!
As someone who ran a largely homebrew campaign, I was always open to new ideas - even TNE - but by the 90s our setting was already too well-established to incorporate much of the lore material. It still provoked some good ideas though, and we did use a lot of the new mechanics. FF&S in particular became indispensable during that time. It would be interesting to hear your impressions of that book. I just looked through the channel history to see if it had been done, and I'm left with two thoughts: A - You have made a huge number of videos in the past year! and 2) Your idea of holding up the book in the thumbnail is very helpful indeed, so kudos for that.
I've spoken at length about the subject of TNE in the past in the comment section of your channel. Would still love to see it get a second life, as long as it also got the funding it deserves. Perhaps that would be as a universal game system that you can use with Traveller.
Great summary of the game. My brother and I played TNE briefly at the time, in the Reformation Coalition setting. Still have all my books to fire up a campaign sometime again in the future.
I was finishing my first degree in 1993 and was excited to finish my final exams so we could start playing TNE. It was a cool idea for a military sci-fi game but my Traveller group didn't enjoy it at all and we decided to go back and play the ancients modules from Classic Traveller using CT and the DGP task system. I still bought almost all of TNE, but unlike CT and MT, I have no nostalgia for it. I liked Martin Dougherty's 1248 setting much better.
Good god, how is your copy so minty??? I was 9 in 1993 and just starting to learn about Warhammer Fantasy Battle and AD&D 2nd Edition. Incidentally, I am moving into my first home at the end of this month! Hope to get the kids hooked on these 90’s editions. I really like the setting of TNE, although mechanically I prefer MegaTraveller. I hope to give TNE an honest try in the coming years in the new home!
The only release date for Traveller: The New Era that I could find was on Amazon, where they listed it's release date as the 1st of January, 1993. I feel that this isn't correct, however.
I really love the post-apocalyptic sci-fi ideas in TNE. All the rebuilding was really conducive for player characters to make a major difference and leave a lasting legacy. Virus was really great too. I wasn't enamoured with the system: good for Twilight:2000, but was overly complicated for Traveller. Too bad GDW didn't last much longer...
By the way, Challenge Magazine #69 has TNE launching in April of 1993.
I had a dream. A dream of fire.
Did you toss all your New Era books into this fire?

Always enjoy your Traveller stuff more TNE would be great.

Thanks for the video! It's an historic occasion!
More New Era, it's why I subscribed!
Yes please more.
Would definitely like to hear more about 1248!
Here's a video I did on 1248 a while ago ua-cam.com/video/ioDeW4bhGYE/v-deo.htmlsi=9GbGAvkOPp7YZzqh

Just wow. Really have gotten back into Travaller. 30 years since this?

Yes please to more TNE.
Please go into more of TNE. I loved the New Era, but have no idea what's involved in 1248.

Wasn't even that good for Twilight: 2000. It just was all we got until they made it worse. 😆
I bought a used copy a few years back, and was curious as to why GDW didn't just keep publishing LBBs for the old classic Era. Whatever.
