    First i love the shirt Doc Savage is awesome. I do like the idea of podcasts being added to regular rotation. One thing i would love to see is if you would be willing to do a series on building a dungeon and how you do them at your table. that would be really cool especially because then we can add a bit of you and your play style into our games. another idea I'm curious if you would be willing to do a series on your thoughts on other media and how its added or changed your games, like how you have kaiju in your games because of your love of Godzilla. Another thing to go with this might be you could show us how you would adapt books, movies, and tv show to the various games that you play IE.. game of thrones to ad&d, or alien to a system like traveler that could be a fun series and you could do polls to see what franchises you like that might be fun for people to watch.

    Yeah I had missed this one. I would love to see you do a video on that later edition. While I didn't like the setting (Web/Orion) as much as this edition the game itself was far better. Still love dusting it off and playing it and talk about well supported??? So much great stuff TSR released to support Top Secret.

    As DM I gave strength bonuses to thrown weapons with the caveat that any thrown size small weapon can only add strength damage up to its maximum size "L" damage in strength bonuses. No you can't throw 6 darts and add 6 damage to each with your gauntlets of Ogre power to a dart buddy.

  • @glenncox9128
    @glenncox9128 8 годин тому

    By the book, RAW rules, you’re actually calculating the damage wrong. The correct way to do it, is to double the base dagger damage (1-4 S,M & 1-3 L), and then to add the weapon bonus to the double damage. When NOT at your table with your house rules, the official RAW does not add strength bonus to missile damage. So, your damage will be (1-4) x 2 + 1-4 bonus = 3-12 total vs S,M, and (1-3) x 2 + 1-4 bonus = 3-10 vs L, depending upon the plus bonus of the dagger (which is NOT doubled). So, a +3 dagger would do 2-8 +3 damage vs a medium sized opponent, or 5-11 hit points of damage. That’s a very significant damage score for a dagger. Doubling the magical bonus damage and allowing strength bonus on top of that is an insane amount of damage.

  • @TeflonDave
    @TeflonDave 8 годин тому

    As a player, I'd certainly support your interpretation, as it gives the item far more utility, but I'm not sure I read the description the same way. It seems to me that "will inflict twice normal dagger damage, plus the dweomer of the blade" means "will inflict twice normal dagger damage _comma_ *and then* add the dweomer of the blade". That certainly seems more inline with the honestly kinda pitiful effects offered by so many magic items, and the modest GP and XP value of the daggers. YMMV.

    • @mikereid1195

      That is the correct wordage, and the intended effect

  • @ddobrien1
    @ddobrien1 8 годин тому

    Game changing? Hell yeah, when you double the Magic Bonus w/o the rules stating so!! LOL It seems too powerful that way. Do you change everything at your table?

    • @glenncox9128
      @glenncox9128 7 годин тому

      Yeah, he’s definitely overpowering these items at his table. They are powerful enough. The magic bonus should not be doubled, nor should the strength bonuses be added to missile weapons. The dexterity bonuses/penalties should be applied to the “to hit” determination for missile weapons.

  • @MarkCMG

    Thanks for the video! I recall one of the DMs in our rotation who used UA stuff more than I added these into a treasure pile. There were several each with a different plus of +2, +3, and +4. We split them up in our group. We also added to hit and damage bonuses for hurled weapons but it didn't stack with dex, one or the other as chosen for the attempt by the player. In my games, and those of fellow DMs back in the day, these could also be used in melee combat.

  • @docsavage8640

    Always remember weapons you throw! In a recent game our Dwarf fighter threw a possibly magical axe at a minotaur and totally forgot about it until the party was many miles away...the only bright side is it was acquired the same session it was lost so it didn't feel quite so bad.

    The interesting thing about Tournament Play is that randomization is reduced in order to better make comparisons between players and groups, and this is why damage rolls are averaged to find the mean score. So, if your sword could hit for 1-8 or 1-12 points of damage, you would just do 5 or 7 points per hit. I don’t know how prevalent Tournament Play is now, but it used to be a very regular feature at conventions, especially the GenCon ones. It was a good way to play test modules, and to inspire top level creative play among the players.

    I think you do well with "how I do things" type content. For example, showing a monster or a type of encounter, and giving an example of how you've handled it. Not "right way/wrong way" stuff, but just your own experience. You could do this kind of thing with every game you've run, and it would be fun to get insights into the details of your campaigns and worlds, as well as giving newer DMs/GMs suggestions of what's worked (or didn't work) for you in the past.

    Congrats Tony! I'm sure you know it but just to express just how useful and interesting your videos have been. Great nostalgia pieces on the D&D side and for Traveller. The single most informative and useful youtube channel for helping navigate the VAST amount of material out there for it for newer players. Definitely adding my voice to 'more live play' I loved your Silent Death play vid. Definitely would like to see you run a Traveller live play. Show us your GM chops! As far as other games. I know you said last video you weren't a T2000 player ( I LOVED that game) but how about Top Secret or Boot Hill. Did you ever play those back in the day. Still have them today. Would love to hear your thoughts on those. Can't wait to see what you do with that Naval Campaign. As I've told you before, I've been running one myself and it is quite an interesting style of playing Traveller and some neat mechanics via that Element Class box set. Keep up the great videos and know just how much what you do is appreciated and enjoyed. Here's to working your way to that 1000th video!!

      @@page121tabletoproleplaying4 I'll have to go back and find those. I still pull that out and play it, sort of a mashup of the more interesting cold war 1E (east v. west) setting and the far superior game mechanics of the (good v. bad setting) 2E/S.I. edition. I was a big western fan back then and loved Boot Hill. Sort of needed some work to make it into a true RPG rather than just a gunfighting sim but it wasn't that hard to do. A game that perhaps hasn't aged well and probably has a strong nostalgia factor today for its fans today more than anything One thing I might note about your upcoming Naval Campaign. I ran into a bit a trip up with that first adventure, Shakedown Cruise. Drew up a bunch of characters based on the chain of command yet there is a vital element of that first adventure that isn't covered by characters done up using the Naval Campaign. Intelligence Officer. Make sure you have a character who has the 'Investigate' skill. One that 'active duty naval officers won't get via the career path and one you should make sure at least one of the high ranking ship officers has to get clues about that corsair base and the ships the Sharshana might face. I had to improvise a NPC intelligence officer, might be better with forewarning to have that be something the characters are equipped to handle.
