Hey, thanks for your comment. I understand that it may seem low to some people, but this is actually the result of managing my cashflow. I actively live on a low budget so that I can spend as much money as possible to investments. My rent is very low, I eat very basic (rice, noodles, potatoes with vegetables and protein sources) and I don't have any subscriptions, not even a mobile phone contract. Hey Rico, just arrived in Paphos about a week ago. Travelled over in my campervan from UK, using the reinstated ferry crossing from Greece. Planning on staying at least a year. Be good to meet you. a Coffee in Meraki?

I used to live in Ayia Napa and found that, on average, Cyprus is cheaper than the UK but not much, about 10 to 15 % at best. Only if you plan a permanent move do you really gain as houses prices, not rents, are cheaper than the UK.
great content! i was curious to know about internet. is it hard to get good quality internet, even in smaller towns of cyprus? and how expensive is it?
I live in Cyprus and My bills are a lot more than that as are my family and friends. You must live quite frugally. I do not mean that as an insult. I have two bed apt my electric bill recently was over double yours and I don’t use air con for cold or heat. I would also point out it’s not common in most of Cyprus to have wifi etc included in rent. I do agree with your tips, people need to come and stay for a while to get a proper feel for the place and do their research. If you have to work, salaries are very low compared to other European countries. If people can have their own company or have a pension or savings, its easier. If you have to work, especially tourist industry, it’s long hours. However the climate is excellent and lifestyle laid back. I enjoyed your video.
Thanks for the comment. Happy it helps! Renting & Buying cars is a little tricky and get become expensive. I recommend finding a great local that helps you with this. Also, definitely check the car very well before you buy. :)
To be honest, €200/month for food isn't impossible. I am living in Stockholm, Sweden which is well known to be an expensive city to live in, and I'm paying around €200-€300 for food if I am very cheap. I think it very much depends on the amount of food you usually eat and your eating habits. (let's take pizza as an example, I usually can only finish 2-3 slides and save the rest for dinner or even lunch for the next day haha)
I totally agree with you, thanks for your comment! If someone likes expensive and special food, obviously they pay more than someone who eats basic vegetables with a great carbohydrate and protein source.
I’ve lived in Paphos and Latchi! The rent is accurate but food nah double that. I rented an atv for months at a time but I have USD money lol love Cyprus!!
Awesome vid! subbed! great with all the tips. do you think living in Famagusta is ok? im looking at at apartment there to buy, supposed to be about only 50 euro each month for apartment expenses and ofc extra for electricity , internett etc. And are you staying for long? have you signed up for residence permit? if so can you make a vid on it?
Hey there, thanks for the comment. :) Yes, I do have a residence permit and I have no plans in going anywhere else, except for travelling of course. Great video Idea!
I love Cyprus. I am ex student of Inter College Larnaca. I was there in 2003-2004. Cyprus is Amazing Island 🏝 to visit in summer.Having plan to visit after COVID. Now I’m Canadian Citizen.
Hey! Haha, thanks for your comment, I loved it! I eat very simple, vegetables from the market, some carbohydrates and protein sources, nothing fancy. I just checked my February spendings on supermarkets, and it's almost exactly 200.
I don’t even spend €200- a month on food! I shop around, eat fruit and veg in season, don’t buy expensive meat, mostly chicken and salmon fillets when on offer, eggs and cheese. I live on my pension of just over €700- a month quite comfortably. End of year bills and any car expenses apart from petrol which is very expensive, from savings.
Thanks Rico, very informative. How is the covid situation. Are restaurants/bars open, and is the mask mandatory in open public spaces? Maybe you have a moment to help me out... Much love from Switzerland
Hey Davide, thanks for your comment! At the moment it's getting more relaxed. We're allowed to eat at restaurants with an outdoor area and since it's currently getting warmer I was at 2 caffee this weekend and did a bike tour. Everything seemed normal, but, we're restricted to go outside only with sending an SMS before. We hope this will be lifted and to be able to sit indoor soon as well. Greeting to Switzerland, I had a great 3 weeks stay there, beautiful! :)
LOL true. The prices do seem too low. I lived in the Philippines and was paying 800 Euro a month for a small 2 bedroom in Manila where the expats live. And the food in Manila was for one person much higher than 200 Euro a month, more like 800-1000 Euro a month to eat out in somewhat OK places. Even if you live in the provinces in the Philippines where rent is half that of Manila, for an expat life (i.e., eating more than just rice) would cost about 2000 Euro a month. I would guess Cyprus for a couple of people would be about 2000 to 3000 euros a month, unless you catch your own fish and eat rice and macaroni every day.
@@raylopez99 eating more than rice for 2000 per month? I don’t know about Manila but I spend about 800eur on food and groceries in Germany for a Family of 5. what he said seems a little low but don’t forget this guy lives a basic student life.... frozen pizza isn’t that expensive.
@@followp What? Family of five on 800 Euro a month in Germany? Wow man, you the man. I recall when visiting Germany that the food in restaurants was of high quality but very expensive.
Depends. 400 to 500 euros are rare for renting to be honest, but you wont find any because they are already taken, i would assume foreigners. for food, i guess it depends on how much youre eating.
Around 200 euro monthly on food? Is there super cheap supermarkets somewhere or you on very good diet? Because I remember I been in Paphos April 2021 and after one shopping in Papantoniou with not even full trolley I paid 90 euro for food. 50 euro for fuel monthly? Its like u to drive very rare or only small distances because its too very not realistic only 50 euro for whole month. And what about monthly car insurance? Now about rent 550 euro for month, don't forget you are middle of covid pandemic situation.. No tourist, lockdowns and many businesses closed. After covid ends, Airbnb, Booking, and tourism industry back all rents will go up.
hello Rico! I'm going to Cyprus in July so I was wondering...how cheap are the restaurants? Im planning to book an apartment in Nicosia and Paphos but I'm still not sure if I want to take apartment or just a room. Is it better to cook or eat at restaurants? (8 days total)
Hey, thanks for your comment! Cooking at home is 100% cheaper. But, if you're on holidays, you of course want to eat outside too. So, maybe do a mix of both, because restaurants are definitely not cheap. You can easily pay up to 30€ per person for a meal and a drink. In most restaurants.
Life is very expensive in Cyprus. Especially in Limassol you need at 1.500 euros. Rents are very high. In Nicosia for on room apartment you need at the best 500 euros only for rent. With wages at 800 euros it is extremely expensive to rent alone an appartement. My brothers lives in Nicosia so I know first hand. Also food is expensive and eating out also. If you gain 1.500 euros a month, yes it can be a very exciting place to live. It has beautiful cities like Pafos, Limassol, Larnaca. Warm weather all around the year. If you have a business it is a good place due to the low taxes. So for someone who gains 1.500 a month it will be great. But most jobs pay there around 800 euros.
This is very helpful because I’m moving to Cyprus in a few weeks with my family! Cyprus is a very pretty place and the rent is so cheap. I currently live in Germany and everything is so overpriced.
Although I can work remotely, would you happen to know how much shared office space is? Might be quite nice for the air conditioning and meeting a few other people :)
Hi Rico. Nice video you've done here! I'm moving to Cyprus at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2022. Would you be able to give any advice on renting an apartment? Are there any specific agency websites or is it best to find an apartment from FB channels etc? I highly appreciate your time
Hi, thanks for your comment, and I'm happy to hear that you're making such a bold move! Regarding apartments, I can recommend to just look on FB Marketplace and Bazaraki and schedule many viewings. This is how I found my apartment. Hope this helps, good luck!
Hello! I spend for food 300euro for electricity almost 60 euro per month. Home internet 30 euro mobile 25euro and my apartment cost 470 per month and i live in nicosia aglantzia if you know in a small flat with one room building 2008
Thanks. That actually more helpful than the video 👍 Shame expenses like rubbish, council tax and any other household bills weren't mentioned. I'm not knocking the video but it's a very personal one
Bzw was sind Deine Erfahrungen?
Lg! :)
Are you talking about the same Cyprus we live in? 50 EUR for petrol? probably you drive a 125cc scooter? 100 EUR per month for fun including playing Golf? seriously? Rent i don't want to argue since i live in Limassol and don't know about rents in Paphos, but the rest of the mentioned amounts are simply not realistic.
Looking hard to finally move out of canada. Cyprus is on my short list, as remote worker. Is Cyprus internet trustworthy 24/7? You do a great job inspiring us quitting our overtaxed prison states;
Hey, thanks for your comment, and I'm very happy to help and inspire people! From my 2 years in Cyprus I always had reliable internet, especially in homes and coworking spaces. However, in public coffees the internet is slower, but still fine for office work. Hope that helps, and hope you'll find the right country for you!

Beeing registerede with Gesy its including health insurance and medicine. Bread, eggs, tomatos, salat, olives come from friendly neighbours for a smile or 1 Euro. Olive Oil nativ, cold presst, 15,- Eur for 4 Liter on the famers market. Keo Beer 0,65l Eur 2,50; Xinisteri bottle in our restaurants Eur 12,-. So what. And 340 Days sunshine free of charge. Good question. It seems very inflated. Definitely more expensive than when I recorded the video! I'm publishing a video about Real Estate very soon where I talk about this more specifically. See you there soon!
Hello Is it better to live in the north side or the south side ? (I ask for the benefits as free to move , more work , free to transport inside and outside )
Hey, I have been to the North just once. So I can't say much about that yet, maybe someone else can give you more insights here, or alternatively ask people in FB groups, maybe. Hope this helps! :)
@@Rico ok , thank you Can you upload another video talking about where is it the easiest place to find work (like working in restaurant or caffe or...)? And which is the cheapest place to rent a small appartement for new persons ? Thank you
Cost of rent has sky rocketed here in the past few years, before you could rent a villa with a pool for €470, I'm lucky I came out here to paphos 7 years ago, I still pay just 300 (up from 275 since I moved in 5 years ago) for a 2 bed 2 bath apartment since the landlord legally can not raise the rent by more than a certain percentage each year. Electricity also, my bills are almost double what they were last year but I still can afford to support myself here and save money living and working alone. As for supermarkets, forget about the big supermarkets and try to buy local. Cars are more expensive second hand and you should definitely not trust every seller, but they are cheaper to insure and tax than in UK.
I am a Cypriot and i have to say some stuff that u said are true but some other not even close for example Nicosia is not cheap at all it maybe one of the most expensive one if is not the expensive one second the car prices are cheap if you buy it from apps like bazaraki but u have to expert that has problems most of the cars that they are selling they have problems so choose wisely or a more expensive option jut buy it from a car saler as it will not 98% have any problems also starting a business here is a good idea as the taxes are more lower than other countries
I lived in Cyprus for eight years food is more expensive because mostly imported quality of building is poor mainly concrete rent first before tempted to buy you need to live in Cyprus first to see the real Cyprus don't look through rose tinted glasses it is a lovely place to live but do your research first
Hi Rico thank you so much for the Video. It made me hopeful for my retirement. I love Cyprus... I lived on the Turkish side with my two children some years ago. All in all I went there 34 times in my life. I only know little about the Greek side. Due to some very bad experiences I knew , when we left, that I would never go there again. But I met so lovely people from the south and due to your calculations I might have a better life there than in Germany as a retiree. Could you make a video about other aspects such as health insurance for EU citizens, quality of health care, crime rate, safety, all kind of things that become important for people 50+. By the way....you don't sound German! Are there many Germans on the Greek side?
Hey there! Thank you very much for your comment! Very happy that you say I don't have a German accent, I'm trying my best! And yes, we do have a lot of Germans in Cyprus. There is a big community here actually. Regarding health insurance and safety, Cyprus is very good actually and one of the safest places in the EU. The hospitals have a lot of high qualified doctors, and as the population of Cyprus is rather small you always have a good chance of getting a diagnosis/surgery very fast. I even heard that a lot of British people fly to CY to get a surgery, which is going to be faster than waiting for a doctor in England.
it’s not called the south side, you lived in the occupied area which includes ammochostos and kyrenia its very disrespectful to say you lived in the turkish side there’s not a turkish side every part of cyprus is legally controlled by the republic of cyprus not the republic of turkey you should get educated
@@alexchrisostomou2700 you didn't get what I meant did you? I used the terms for people to get the idea of Cyprus. I am not in favour of Turkish policy. But you too should get more history lesson. Hello Rico! I'm thinking of moving to Cyprus. My salary is around 1300USD would that be enough? After taxes and some good rent opportunity will I be able to live normally?
I actually live in the northern part of the island.. Some people from the southern divide do cross down here to get groceries and buy petrol.. 1300dollar won't suffice in the South but it's manageable and even sufficient in the North.. They spend tirkish liras here.. If you change an hundred dollar to liras.. Your pocket will be full and it will suffice you for three weeks🤣🤣
@Levent S it actually does..but it is still manageable...euro,dollar or pounds are formidable against the turkish lira..you can enter any market in north cyprus with 50euros and your grocery basket will be full
I've checked it out Cyprus house prices... many of them are terrible... they want 40 000 euros for ruins... it does not worth a penny :D Rent prices is also too high there. 300 euro... c'mon it is worth only 100 max. 150 / month.
50 on gas and other car expenses ?! 🤣 100 euros for fun ? Do you go out only once a month ? Living in Cyprus for 21 years I can tell you that these are extremely low prices.

This definitely needs a 2024 update, since the whole world has become much more expensive over the past couple years
Good idea, thanks! Noted.
This guy is spot on, well said!
Thank you Rico. It’s very heplefull vedio for us. Good To know about Cyprus living cost❤️ We love you rico🥀❤️
Thank you very much, much love back!
Wow !!! that was awesome... Hello there , from Philippines ..
Thank you! All the best to Philippines.
I love Cyprus. I am ex student of Inter College Larnaca. I was there in 2003-2004. Cyprus is Amazing Island 🏝 to visit in summer.Having plan to visit after COVID. Now I’m Canadian Citizen.
Awesome, that sounds cool and yes I agree!
I want to move there to work for a vinyard. I wonder how much i could make growing grapes 🤔
Jesus what do you eat to only spend 200€ on food? IM a student and Im genuinely intrigued because I spend between 350 and 450€ on food monthly.
That's great Helen, I wish you the best. :)
@@helenstylianou5280 Do you rent, or own a property outright?
Very nice video Rico!

Hi there, what is the living costs now outside big cities?
Hey, why did you choose Cyprus over Bali?
Great video thankyou 🤠👍
Thank you for your helpful, awesome video 👍
Thanks. Happy to hear that! :)
Hi, it seems Cyprus was dirty cheap two years ago... how much has it changed?
Nice video! vert informative...thank you!
Thank you as well! :)
Really??? I've been living in Cyprus for the past 32 years and I've never heard of such low prices!!!
I agree with you Mario.
Great video :)
Thanks Andrew!:)
great video mate :)
Great!! Thanks!! : )
Hello Rico, I have plans of moving to Cyprus from Ghana... Any pointers?
Hi! How is it with Corona of you wanna traven there? Like do you have to take pcr test?
Hi, yes upon Arrival you do a mandatory test. I also have a video on that.
Very good video. Great job.
Thank you!
Nice content, I am following you :)
Cool, thank you very much Riccardo :)
Wow tnx i had an idea for the cpst of living in cyprus ...i am processing now and going there for 3 to 4 mos.
Enjoy your time! :)
@@Rico thank you for your quick answer, that helped! If I see you in Paphos i'll buy you a beer!
Best regards from Croatia :) and stay safe!!
@@dea7hFromAbove Lovely! See you soon then haha. :)
I highly recommended North Cyprus to a friend of mine who is planning to migrate somewhere.
Excellent. Thank you!
Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad the video could help!
This is very helpful because I’m moving to Cyprus in a few weeks with my family! Cyprus is a very pretty place and the rent is so cheap. I currently live in Germany and everything is so overpriced.
Totally agree. I'm also from Germany, so I know exactly what you mean. Happy the video helped! :)
But I still see many people saying Cyprus is expensive. I wonder what specifically they are referring to?
@@bamboozle999 it depends on the cities mostly. Living in Limassol is expensive but living in other cities such as Paphos is affordable.
@@bamboozle999 A holiday trip can be expensive here because short term rentals (Airbnb) and car rentals are layed out for tourists. :)
Great video - thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment! :)
Great video Rico! What about permanent residence? What are the steps? Thank you!!
Hey, this is very complex, the best you can do for that is to get a consultant in my opinion. Wish you all the best! :)
Although I can work remotely, would you happen to know how much shared office space is? Might be quite nice for the air conditioning and meeting a few other people :)
Hey Andrew, cool question! I myself also go to a Coworking Space in Paphos and this costs me 120€ a month. Coffee, Tea, AC and good vibes included. :)
@@Rico that's not too expensive, thanks for the info :)
@@Rico Thank you for your reply :)! Looking forward to it
Need to check all the areas out before you stay

Thanks. That actually more helpful than the video 👍 Shame expenses like rubbish, council tax and any other household bills weren't mentioned.
I'm not knocking the video but it's a very personal one
Was zahlst Du fürs Mobilfunknetz fürs Smartphone? :)
Bzw was sind Deine Erfahrungen?
Lg! :)

I agree about Limassol. My house is 2 time worst than yours and i pay +200 euro on rent...
Are you talking about the same Cyprus we live in? 50 EUR for petrol? probably you drive a 125cc scooter? 100 EUR per month for fun including playing Golf? seriously? Hey, thanks for your comment, and I'm very happy to help and inspire people! From my 2 years in Cyprus I always had reliable internet, especially in homes and coworking spaces. However, in public coffees the internet is slower, but still fine for office work. Hope that helps, and hope you'll find the right country for you!

Rico, why do you never mention the rich Cypriot culture, the museums, archaeological sites etc.!?
The 470e villa you mention, how much would it cost nowadays? Thanks
@@bamboozle9991000 or more
I am a Cypriot and i have to say some stuff that u said are true but some other not even close for example Nicosia is not cheap at all it maybe one of the most expensive one if is not the expensive one second the car prices are cheap if you buy it from apps like bazaraki but u have to expert that has problems most of the cars that they are selling they have problems so choose wisely or a more expensive option jut buy it from a car saler as it will not 98% have any problems also starting a business here is a good idea as the taxes are more lower than other countries

I even heard that a lot of British people fly to CY to get a surgery, which is going to be faster than waiting for a doctor in England.
it’s not called the south side, you lived in the occupied area which includes ammochostos and kyrenia its very disrespectful to say you lived in the turkish side there’s not a turkish side every part of cyprus is legally controlled by the republic of cyprus not the republic of turkey
you should get educated
