  • A comprehensive guide about the tax system in Cyprus. Is Cyprus a Tax heaven? How do taxes really work in Cyprus and are they really as low as many people think? Find the answers in this video!
    I remember moving to Cyprus and having many questions about incorporating a company and the tax system here, so I decided to create a video where everything is explained for you. With this video, you will know exactly what you need to be aware of when moving here.
    Contact us: cyprus@ricardogorski.com
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    2:42 Overview of the Cyprus Tax System

    52:43 Why a Consultant is so important
    I decided to make this video with my personal consultant Nikolas in order to provide expertise and experience. We touched many topics about taxes and I hope this video answers most of your questions.
    Also, even though we tried our best to make this video as accurate as possible, the numbers we mentioned may vary, especially going onwards in the future. Therefore, it would make sense to also check the official website of the government or consult an advisor to get the exact numbers.
    If you still have some questions or individual requests, feel free to leave a comment, and we will be happy to give you an answer!

    Great video, Rico. Appreciate you both taking the time to create it! Three questions:
    1. When incorporating, can you use your personal/local address or do you need a virtual one?
    2. Is it better to be paid as a salary or dividend?
    3. Where are your social insurance contributions deducted? (From the company’s side or from your pay?)
    My girlfriend and I spent 3 months in Cyprus in 2018 (Chlorakas) and another 3 months last year when COVID kicked off.
    Keeping our options open for 2022… 😎

    • @Rico
      @Rico  2 роки тому +3

      Hey there, thanks for your comment. We really appreciate the nice words.
      1. The business address is usually where you operate your business. But, technically, you could also use a virtual address. It's just important to receive letters and utility bills so that you don't have problems with any KYC or other important processes.
      2. This really depends on your individual situation. However, at 9:12 you have one option that makes sense for many digital nomads.
      3. You pay the SI contributions manually to the social insurance department, from your business bank account. And the amount is separate from your salary.
      I hope these answers help you with your decision. Great to hear you've been to Chlorakas as I live here. Maybe see you in the future, until then stay healthy and all the best to you and your girlfriend!
      Rico :)

    • @Rico
      @Rico  3 роки тому

      Hello Per-Olof, first thank you very much for your comment. The internet in Cyprus is very stable these days. I lived in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Pervolia and I don't feel any difference between the cities. The internet mostly depends on your plan and the upload + download capabilities. At home, I have a relatively low plan, but it's totally fine for browsing, streaming etc. If I would upgrade my plan I could easily do more heavy usage tasks. But it doesn't make sense for me as I also go to the office and have excellent internet there. For you, it probably would make sense to go with a 50k - 100k download plan. Hope that helps, Ricardo!

      Hiya I was just in Cyprus and I tested 4G network coverage. We were mostly in Pathos, Larnaca but also going to Polis. Almost everywhere we checked we would get 60Mbps (even on Mount Olympus). It was only a few rare places were we got 30Mbps. One place in the mountain going to Polis had no coverage but after driving for a few minutes we had reception again. There is fiber in the cities and you can check with the providers if certain addresses have fiber.

  • @Ahduciekwndnbbbsvvvghhhyyyyy

    When he says exemption of social security, I’m guessing he’s referring to the 8% Holliday contribution. I was a bit confused about that initially. It seems to me even with that exemption, the “social tax” will be about 20% on the salary part, and 2,65% on dividends.

    This was a very interesting point about tax havens. I did not know that the banks would not accept the money from their countries.

    • @charleswhite758
      @charleswhite758 Рік тому

      Banks are now paranoid about accepting funds derived from money-laundering. They get fined huge amounts. Thus they just don't want to take the risk in accepting deposits from tax havens. It costs them a lot to investigate fully that your funds are clean. So if you have money salted away in a tax haven it's not much use anymore. You cannot bring it into Europe to buy yourself a nice lifestyle. But he did say you can spend it using a bank card.

    What about following all the rules, staying 60 days and even buying a property but having a transparent LLC in delaware for example (all customers out of cyprus and working/traveling 10 months a year)
    it seems like a lot of taxes / issues come when creating a company in cyprus

  • @gdaaps
    @gdaaps Рік тому

    Is the 60 days rule really useful for some person? Suppose you are german or italian: in such states there is the concept of the center of vital and economic interest... if you stay only 2 months in Cyprus most likely you don't have such center in CYprus. If you don't have such center in Cyprus, most likely you have it, at least for the tax offices, your center in Germany of in Italy (depending if you are italian or german). Therefore you are considered a tax resident also on that second state, even if you didn't stay 6 months in it.

      Hey, thanks for your comment. FX can get quite complex, and the taxation depends on your individual situation. Be careful, selling assets may demonstrate a pattern of trading, and thus be subject to income/corporation tax. But selling assets occasionally would qualify for capital gains tax, not trading. That is the position in the UK anyway. It's not the nature of the asset sold, but the frequency of the sales.
