Hi Daniel, yeah the timelapse probably did not show the true struggle that happened. also crawling on the floor looking for a keepers that went flying out.
@@RisingBoostYT i can imagine i saw a few attempts on the same one with a break in between i wouldnt even ask the mrs to help me so fair play you got there in the end 🤣 looking forward to the next video spent some time watching the full series keep up the good work!
Awesome bro, just keep in mind you will need plug wires from a z6 and an adjustable cam gear to get timing back to 0deg, also check what the compression ratio will be with this combo, you can use the zeal online tool
6:05 great there's a young mechanic helping. This video is giving to me the motivation for the project! I have a question: how do you did with the ECU part? Having a Turbo involved, setting the right mixture air/fuel...
In my case, I fitted a very basic stand-alone ECU. that way I had full control over ignition timing and air / fuel. I did a video on installing it available on the channel.
keep in mind there is 2 versions of vtec-e, head-code "PO7" is a small intake runner head, bad for performance. but head-code "P2J" is a big runner head, meaning even though it is vtec-e it is still better than a non-vtec.
Hi there... Im josh and from cape town. Soon planning on working on my d series. Is there anyway i can contact u for any advice because this will be my first time working on an engine. And i love ur vids❤
I know this video is old. But I’m looking to rebuild my D16Z6 soon. What is a good tool to install and remove the valve keepers? I know there are a lot of great tools for B-series engine. But I haven’t seen any specifically for D-series. Thanks and great content!
Hi bro, check for a universal spring compressor tool. Getting the retainers out is easy, getting them back in is a bit more challenging, a spring compressor tool will help alot.
Hi Hummy. Yes this motor will be 100% stock. Not planning to push it past what it can handle in stock form, so I will be aiming for max 200whp. It's been doing very well at 163whp. But we now added vtec and a bit more boost. See how she handles that.
Hi, it depends on the ZC version. If it's a sohc it will work, the vtec trigger is controlled by the ecu. So you need an ecu and wire to trigger the vtec on/off. There is a dohc ZC similar to the D16A9. It won't work on a dohc Dseries
Hi Vicente, the key that holds the cam pulley in place should face UP. so where the cam pulley bolts onto the cam, there is a keyway cut into the cam. that must face UP.
Hi, maybe not extend, but if assembled dirty it can cause damage to bearings, journals and cam lobes if any dirt gets into your oil. it is always good to work clean when assembling. having dirt or metal shavings in oil passages can cause the engine to fail shortly after startup.
@@RisingBoostYT sorry I'm not native, I meant tearing apart your engine and cleaning it as opposed to let it untouched in the engine bay with carbon accumulated in its internals.
Hi @@masterjack8222 all good, I won't recommend disassembly just to clean, there are products available that you can use to help clean out carbon and sludge buildup. if a car is running as it should I would leave it "as is" unless the buildup is causing an issue. normally carbon buildup is a diesel engine problem, not so much petrol. I have seen really bad oil buildup on engine internals due to not changing oil, in a case like, that cleaning everything would help with longevity for sure.
Intake.....007-.009" (.17-.22mm) Exhaust...009-.011" (.22-.27mm) I used the biggest clearance as its a boosted application, so in my case it will see more heat.
Hi, yes head is running fine, been on the dyno a few times, videos on the channel, no issues with the head, I will say it does have a lot of small pieces that can go missing or be fitting wrong, so I also won't recommend it if it's not necessary to disassemble.
Hi Taco, at first I used the red 3M scuff pad and strong degreaser for the carbon buildup, for the internal parts I used aerosol Brake & Parts Cleaner. the Honda cylinder head can be assembled with a 10, 12 and 14mm socket.
Hi John, sadly no, I was once able to get a parts list printout from a honda dealership for something else. perhaps you can get it for the head. I would definitely recommend making sure you have all the parts if you buy a head, there is loads of small parts on the cylinder head that can easily go missing like the keepers and retainers, the rockers also have small springs, spacers and locking pins. all things that is not easy to find unless you go to the dealer.
New to the d-series and had to rebuild one one week after purchasing my 96 civic. Your video here helped tons
Hi bro, glad it was helpful, hope you enjoy the car
"this will test your relationship" a few moments later "just buy the compressor tool" made me laugh !

This inspired me to clean up a used z6 head for the d15b2 in my civic Ef hb. 👍 nicely done 8:51

Also I found a rare Civic VTEC-E which is a 1.5 with a sort of eco-vtec, located 200km away

Dude used a wrench to compress them springs that’s a true homie😂
At the time after the 3de keeper went flying I definitely wished that I just bought the tool rather
Loving this
Nice build
Hi, Glad you think so!

what is the right distance for the In and Ex valve clearances?
Hi Black Red, for D16Z6 (.007 -.009 intake) - (.009-.011 exhaust) adjust when cold.
Thank's you very much...
are you using the factory oem valvesprings and retainers?
Hi Hummy. Yes this motor will be 100% stock. Not planning to push it past what it can handle in stock form, so I will be aiming for max 200whp. It's been doing very well at 163whp. But we now added vtec and a bit more boost. See how she handles that.
Is it possible to swap in a d16 vtec head with a non vtec zc d16 engine? Will it have vtec?

Longshot but how do I know that my head is at tdc (d16y8) but by looking at the cam? I removed the gear and now I don’t know where I should set it

does cleaning your engine pièces like that can extend the engine longevity?

What Grid Is That Sander You Using To Clean The Manifold surface?
Hi Zay, I used 320, afterward I used 600 just to be sure it's smooth.

do you have a whole parts list?

What head is it ?
This is a D-series P08 sohc vtec head from a D16Z6
Can't wait to start building mine I got a d16z6 as well. So underrated
is this something you can do for me to my d16 head if i ship to you and pay for business inquiry??
Hi bro, sadly no i'm not really a mechanic, have a full time job, just working on my own stuff.
crazy how much carbon buildup was on the valves.
Absolutely, previous owners car must have been burning a lot of oil
I wish I had that engine for my Del Sol!!!! 🐹👻
