I have a 1996 mazda b3000 flrd v6 5 speed that I just fully serviced and revived from sitting 8 years under a tree in Florida. No rust. All is good mechanically , so my ???? Seen another video of you saying ford dropped the ball and labeled oil fills for 5w20 when it should have been 5w30 this has 84k and id like to keep it for a while. So 5w20or 5w30???
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about the cylinder deactivation feature on the Mazda 3. I’m guessing that means it’s not a problem on these Mazda’s?
@@duffsvids No cylinder deactivation on the Turbo models.
It maybe not a tin cann but is it a plastic want to be cann lol 😂
Hi, thanks for the thorough review. I believe Mazda's AWD-system continuously meausres grip levels and on a dry road will only run the front wheels, due to increased fuel economy, which is why it actually measures up to the reported MPG statement.
I was all set to buy a Toyota until I realized Mazda is what Toyota used to be.
@paulboden7850 this is so true!
I was driving one the other day as a rental to go see my parents and nothing but high RPMs, rubber made doors and lifter tick at 16k miles...
I’ve had my new CX 50 for almost a month. And I am always impressed when in park and idling how quiet it is. You can’t even tell it’s on! It’s even quieter than my old Lexus! It’s not perfect, but it’s still a very nice vehicle!
@@towerofresonance4877 you must’ve had it in sport mode then if it was revving high
@@eleanormassaro5195 I’ve been thinking about getting one. I love the way they look. I have a 3 hatchback like he’s showing here and I love it.
I think Mazda is the only Japanese automaker that doesn't make CVTs. They still use a regular automatic tranmission
I hate CVT transmissions they suck
Thank God. I’d rather have a DCT than CVT if I’m driving an automatic
Hopefully they keep it that way. Exact reason I just bought a Mazda 3 for commuting to work- I was not buying a CVT and so far the little Mazda 3 hatchback is an awesome car.
cvt is rubish. mazda is not stupid.
Toyota makes the best CVT, as they use a launch gear, but I'd rather they used a step transmission as Mazda does.
I like how Mazada uses good quality materials inside their cars.
We’ve had 4 CX-5’s …… UNREAL Build-Quality …… and they Run well and don’t break !!

Mazda makes beautiful cars - inside and outside. Thank you for continuing to highlight Mazda vehicles.
Was a Toyota guy the past 15 years and Mazda wasn’t even on my radar when I began looking at first. When looking at subcompact SUVs this channel was one of the firsts to come up. Saw a CX-30 at a stoplight and fell in love. Six weeks later couldn’t be more thrilled with it. So glad not to have to worry about a CVT. And I actually look forward to running errands!
Honestly the build quality, driveability, engine, and a normal 6-speed automatic are the reasons I recommended my folks get the CX-9 over the Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot at the time. Haven't had so much as a hiccup since they got it in 2017.
Highlanders and Pilots don't use CVTs
@@Winterstick549 I didn't say they did.
As the main Mazda enthusiast in this channel since 2012. Im very pleased with Scotty giving Mazda the credit they’ve been due.
I drove a 2016 Mazda 3 until I upgraded to a 22 Mazda 3 turbo AWD I love these cars so much
I got mine 2 months ago and love the way it drives and handles
Nice to have Scotty onboard finally with Mazda, for now anyway. The 3s were never slow.
It's great that Mazda put the temperature gauge back on the dash. Stupid not to have it.
I just bought a CX 5 a week ago and I'm in love with it. Super well built and more luxury that it's competitors.
mazda is the BEST manufacturer for the money for the past 10 years (at least)...... I've owned 8 since 1991 (2 automagic, 6 manual trans) and all of them have gone for over 250k miles (except of course for the 3 I currently own; 02 tribute-188k; 16 6-155k; 20 cx5-62k)...... good to see that you're finally coming around scotty.......
Hi, what happened with the 2020 cx-5? Why did it quit on you at 62K? I'm looking at cx-5's and want someone's opinion on reliability who actually owned one! Thanks!
@@sherisisco4029 also, .... we got the "touring" edition, not the base or grand touring. I stay away from the "turbo"s and all wheel drive models since their repair costs typically are through the roof. couldn't be happier....
Still driving my 1990 Mazda 626 Sedan as my daily driver. 32 years old and clocked up over 310,000 miles (500,000kms!!!). Still drives like new! .......
My late father bought me the 1990 model Mazda 626 sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, back in 1990 for my 18 birthday and as a bribe for me to go to University!! Lol!! He bought it brand new, fully imported from Japan (he paid 32,000 Australian dollars for it back then!)... I live in Melbourne, Australia! In fact it is an Automatic 2.2i. I have never had a problem with it in 32 years and after 310,000 miles (500,000kms!!!!) !!!!!!!!! ... still drives like a dream, like new! Its unreal ... and l absolutely will NEVER part with this car, for both sentimental reasons and my absolute love for this car. I have religiously taken it to get it serviced (oil change and general maintenance) every 6 months (absolutely without fail!) over the course of its current 32 years. Every mechanic tells me my car is never going to die ... it is in incredible condition. None of them can believe it.
I recently purchased a new 2022 Mazda 3 sedan. I had to wait 8 months for it to arrive here in Melbourne, from Japan .... and am also absolutely thrilled to own the Mazda 3 too. It is a breathtakingly stunning and gorgeous car!!!
I now drive both cars as my daily driver ... a couple of days a week in my '90 Mazda 626 and a couple of days a week in my new 2022 Mazda 3.
Like l said, as long as l live, l will never ever, ever part with my Mazda 626. LOVE IT BEYOND WORDS!!! It even has the famous oscillating vents!!!
If anything ever failed in the car, l am lucky to have some experts here in Melbourne (company called 'ALLMAZ') who deal with all things Mazda related and who have over 1 million Mazda parts from models of the 70s, 80s and 90s.
My 1990 Mazda 626 is a phenomenal car and absolutely incredible. So happy l own and drive this retro beauty.

Finally a mazda review!
Have you ever been to Japan Scotty? It's pretty amazing. I bought my stereo system there in 71 and still going strong, pioneer qx8000 receiver, speakers, etc. I do clean it once in a while but that's it. Cost 179.00.
When I came home those were over 400.00 at Servex electronics. Of course I was in the Marines and just left Vietnam.

As the owner of a 2019 hatch (2.5L N/A AWD 6spd Auto) I've been waiting for this review! Scotty hits all the key points that make the Mazda3 a criminally underrated car.
Mostly because it's lost in the fog of the "Hot Hatch" genera. ....No, it's not a "Hot hatch", it's not supposed to be, and it's not trying to be. Mazda has said that this
is not a direct or spiritual decedent of the Speed3. It is however still a pure drivers car following the mantra of "driving slow cars fast" and if you are of the opinion that "Miata is always the answer" and you get that cars like the Toyobaru Twins don't need forced induction to be what they are supposed to be, then you will "get" the design of this iteration of Mazda3.
As someone that was cross shopping a wild array of cars both in and outside the Mazda3's segment, it is the perfect combination of things that I wanted of a car without a lot of the things I felt the other cars in the segment or genre I was looking at gave up on for "higher HP and/or boost gauges". It certainly doesn't have any of the reputational stench attached to its fandom that most other "drivers cars for enthusiasts" have.
Want a great Drivers car? Are you looking at the Hot Hatch Segment, or their base offerings, or the GT86/BRZ/Miata but maybe want something a touch more practical, refined, and or domesticated, and something that won't make you a member of the flat brimmed fanboi brigades? Check out the Mazda3. And hey, realistically, the hatch might be too small for some - good news: it comes in a Sedan too!
I owned a 2010 Mazdaseed 3 and that was a hot hatch!
Own 2 Mazda vehicles, me and my wife love them. I have a 3 hatchback and she has a cx5. Scotty hits on the facts perfectly.
Sounds familiar! My wife drives a CX-5 as well and LOVES IT! And now I'm going to buy a Mazda 3 hatch with the 2.5 turbo engine in Soul Red Metallic! Can't wait! Mazda today is what Toyota and Honda USED to be -- simply the highest quality and most fun vehicles on the road!
Hey Scotty! Thanks again for featuring a Mazda. Best cars out there today, in my opinion.
You are probably aware that the Mazda turbo is a special design that runs cool and does not rely on mixture enrichment to prevent knock! (Unlike their competitors).
How about you do an episode about Mazda's superior turbo design?
Superior in burning oil 😞
@kevin starski Show me a turbo that isn't.
Also, that was a limited run only, and not a design flaw. It is due to a faulty seal.
@@houtyfish273 disappointing on a new car that we thought was going to be a keeper. Constantly worrying about oil level is a no go.
@kevin starski I hear you. So you got one of them? Sorry to hear that.
I have to point out that oil burning is common in a lot, if not most turbo cars, as well as reliability issues, and Mazdas design mitigates most of those issues. They unfortunately had a batch of faulty valve seals or something, and I believe they are working on a fix. Hopefully soon!
We have one that doesn't use oil, and it is a dream
We have a '21 CX5 CE turbo AWD. Put a burgermotor sports JB4 tuner on it. Its a lot of fun to drive. Ours doesnt use a drop of oil either.
The strong influence of Japanese philosophy in the design and company culture, like Jinba Itaia (unison between horse and rider) Kodo (design in motion) and Kaicho (harmony) make me feel I'm in something truly premium.
You are, your in a Mazda 😁😁
Just sold a 2012 Mazda 3 and kind of wish I hadn’t. Really great mileage, handled like a 240Z.

@@xombiekat13 I sold it cause of work related. It was also my plan to drive till it collapsed, had 235,000km on the thing and zero engine problem didn't have to go to a mechanic except for oil change, so reliable.
I have this car in the 2022 Sedan, but Naturally Aspirated and I love it!
I had a 2004 Mazda 3 Hatchback and LOVED everything about it. Even after 10 years the body and paint still looked great, the car ran great. Then I made the mistake of passing it down to my then 20-year-old son and...rest in peace to my Mazda.
I hope your Mazda died well...☹️
Sorry for your loss. I hope you didn't give your son any peace after that...
Some cars infotainment systems are too complex with the climate controls integrated to the system. I like on this car how the climate controls are separate and easy to use
Dear Scotty: You are a hero. I cannot even begin to thank you enough for your insights. I'm a new follower and happened to find you after my Hyundai Sonata was STOLEN (yes, via the USB TikTok challenge) and totaled. I've been straddled with the unexpected expense of purchasing another car in a market that has rapidly advanced in the 7 years since I first purchased my Sonata without a good place to begin researching. Thank you for making your no-nonsense, practical, and easy-to-follow videos.
Test drove a 3 hatch and a civic hatch, and the 3 outshines the civic in so many ways. It's a gorgeous car and felt amazing!
Happy new year Scotty from Estonia!
I use to own a Mazda 323 back in the early 90s while serving in the US Navy, I forget what year she was, but it was my first financed vehicle while stationed in Norfolk VA.
Those 323s are getting hard to find. I've been wanting a 323gtx for a few years, maybe when I'm done messing with my

Just bought my 2020 mazda 3 premium AWD lease and I couldn't be happier. This thing performs on the highway with a smooth ride, never let me get stuck in nyc snow and it literally has the features I wanted in an audi a4 at a fraction of the cost. Not to mention, this is a beautiful looking car! Inside and out!
Scotty starting the year off by shocking the entire car industry yet again!
According to Scotty, the Entire Car Industry spends every second day Shocked!
I have PTSD after watching this.
I got the 2021 CX-5 Grand Touring - didn't need the turbo and this trim has everything I wanted. Love the red paint, Bose speakers and the cabin is quiet. I make the payment each month without cringing - happy to pay for this fine car. I'll have it for a long time.
Another spot on review. Love that Mazda isn't simply following the pack and that they're locked in to building top quality driving cars. My 6sp manual G25 Astina sedan is averaging 5.8l/100km (just over 40mpg in the old money) on mostly highway and country roads. This car puts a smile on the dial every time I get behind the wheel. Unfortunately the turbo variant is not available in right hand drive markets.
Thanks for your impressions. Mazda does sound like they’ve evolved well. Happy New Year, Mr. Kilmer, Family and fans.
Bought mine back in 2019 with AWD and I absolutely love it. Super reliable and well built. I drive it on snow sometimes and it handles well.
Turbo or non turbo ? How's it been ?
@@codezalo5773 Non turbo. It's been almost 4 years now and drives really well without a single issue. Just a simple oil change every 5k miles and it's good to go.

I've owned 3 Mazda 3's over the past 15 years. The improvement generation over generation is really impressive. The 2018 vs the 2012 was such a huge jump. This current Gen is yet another step up.
I have a 2012. Even that is an amazing car.
I appreciate your knowledge of vehicles and thank you for sharing it. Happy new year Scotty.
Hey Scotty I am a happy Mazda CX-50 owner - I drive the Turbo Premium in Zircon Sand - please test drive a CX-50 some time and share with your audience because it deserves to be heard about!
Happy new year Scotty! Thanks for including the turbo and using premium fuel as a positive part of the review! 👍
Premium fuel is only a downside if you can't use regular, since you can with the Mazda it's optional for more HP. Turbos are bad on smaller engines like 1.5L Hondas, but Mazda uses a 2.5L engine now. Larger turbos need high rpms to be effective, but it's a small turbo that works at lower rpms. So all that's left is more engine wear on turbo vs non turbo but we already know that is universal. I'd rather have the turbo than VCM on the non turbos
My mate had the last generation Mazda 3, and it was a great car to drive. Even after 180,000 K's (Australia) It was still in good condition. That thing did a lot of driving and never gave up.
I bought a 2014 Mazda 3 itouring manual transmission brand new. It has 220k miles on it and runs great. Only thing I’ve replaced is the clutch around 190k.
Nice one, Scotty; you pretty much nailed ALL the reasons why I just bought one of these (2019 manual GT SportTech) instead of a Toyota. It's a fantastic car, just as you say.

Fully agree with comments regarding CVT and touchscreen. I like a manual car that I drive and experience, not some box that I sit in and am carried along for the ride! And the Japanese know how to build a car, I changed oil, windshield wipers, tires, and one time in 30 years the car window didn’t go down because there was a pebble underneath the button, Mazda has never given me problems.
Your Mazda has the ugly grid?
I actually had a first gen 2008 mazda 3 touring which I bought second hand in 2011 with 30k miles on it. Contrary to what you said, It was not a bad car at all. It looked way much better than the corollas and civics of the time and it always started alright even in very cold weather. The only real problem with it is rust especially if you live in places where they put a lot of salt on the roads. But if you live in say, CA its not really a problem.

Mazda has stepped up their paintwork to another level, I would be shocked to find they still have this issue in their newer vehicles
@@kaeden2502 I sold Mazada's in the 90's, rust was an issue, gave them a bad name in northern climate, they have solved that issue with galvanizes panels, sealing up the underneath, and paint, I had 2008 cx9 made in Japan, the car came from MN fleet vehicle, we drove till 180000 in northern climate, did not have one spec of rust on when we sold it in 2016, 2014 cx5 same with 150000 miles, If I was selling Mazda's now that is the first selling point I would bring up.

If I were in the market for a new car I would definitely buy a Mazda. My aunt's 2018 Camry is less fun to drive than my 04 Corolla.
IMO there’s a lot of advantages to older cars. Way cheaper, cheaper parts, less sensors and electronics to break, less emissions handicaps, generally easier to work on yourself.
Define "fun to drive".
I drove an '03 corolla until a couple months ago, when I bought my current car. Excellent handling even when pushing it to around 100mph. Was a fun little ride.
@@DarkEnigma1115 how many miles did you put on the Corolla? I’ve got a 2006 Matrix pretty similar to that, so I know what you mean by that “Toyota feeling.” Those things in stick shift are fun
@N808’s Garage is your Corolla a manual?
I love the shade constantly being thrown at Tesla! LOL. I have a 2021 Mazda 3 hatch that I got back in September and I freaking love it!!
I have this exact car and it is excellent! It is surprisingly usable for its small size
I have been thinking of buying a Toyota or Honda now,I’m thinking about Mazda CX 9 😂 bc of your videos!
Thank you Scotty 🙏🏻
I grabbed the 23' turbo hatch 2 months ago. I Absolutely love it. I cross shopped and drove several competitors and it felt a league ahead in almost every category. Its the perfect mix of comfort/luxury/sport for a daily driver and I would suggest it to anyone.
@@mezzb the only gripe I have is that they don’t have a slip diff like the si. And the awd doesn’t come in a manual.
How does this compare with the 2023 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback? Deciding between the two.
@Alex unfortunately the civic was still super hot a few months ago and I was only able to sit in one, didn't get a chance to drive it. I hear they're nice but the mazda feels more premium and the turbo vs the civic touring would be night and day in terms of power.
My first car was a black 2014 Mazda 3. Loved that car.
I think I know what my next car is going to be! But I want a white one! It gets too hot here to have a dark car climate change but I do want an automatic because I am disabled it's easier for my feet. I have a spinal cord injury but I get around with one cane just fine thank you Scotty Happy New Year! Donald Robert storm Jr
Got a 2022 cx30, love it, best car I had in awhile, its has nothing on American brand, the 6 speed in it is what chevy should've had from the start and maybe they wouldn't have to keep changing to higher Trans speed lol
Scotty killing it in 2023! “Nasty Shark” 🦈 styling Love it! Made in Japan 🇯🇵 true that!!
Hey, thanks for doing a video on my car Scotty!
I bought a 2021 one last year, and it's such a great car. It's quick when you want it to be, too.
I have a 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and that Mazda looks similar with it’s specs and features. Hell, that Mazda probably has a dipstick for checking the oil- something the Alfa lacks!
Can verify we can check our oil levels via dipstick. The Alfa really lacks one?
@@majestikmastrb8r689 Oil level on the Stelvio is checked via a menu selection on the car's computer display. It's easy and clean, but I guess new and unfamiliar to me.
Nice book in the passenger side door. Everyone should learn about that book and understand what is coming. Maybe if enough figure it out we can stop it.
Owned 3 Mazdas so far: 1991 Miata 1.6L, 1994 Miata 1.8L, 2011 Mazda3 2.5L NA hatch -- all with manual transmissions. They were all great cars. Never had any issues with them. Rock solid reliable and were fun to drive.
And what do you drive now
Mazda: ALWAYS better than Kia/Hyundai
2) never has/had CVT transmission
3) #1 best in Crash-test ratings for the last few years: CX5
4) best Driving experience, like Honda
(Toyota’s feel robotic,
By comparison)
I’d rather have a Hyundai Kia than a Mazda but you go ahead and buy a Mazda.
@@RRLV434 why just curious?
@@RRLV434 have fun with your hyundai/kia getting stolen with a usb stick lol
I wished I could afford one. They're beautiful!
Work hard ,improve your self and work, concentrate,,try to save money by stop buying unnecessary stuff,,then you will have one maybe in the next few months,,i did what i mentioned and bought my first mazda last year its a used 15 cx5 and iam very satisfied,,nothing is impossible my friend,,
@@BigBoss-tk6lh I used to work very hard until I got a spine injury. It has really taken a toll on my life. I used to love to work without pain.
@jozani8407 sorry about that,,wish you get better health ,,take care,,there is always hope,,
I've been a Mazda fan since my 1988 Mazda 323 GT turbo decades ago. Glad to see Scotty has now noticed their quality and value.
Hey Scotty, could you take a look at the Mazda CX-50 next? It's built on the same platform as the Mazda 3 but it's built in the US. I am curious as to what you think of it.
Love the Great Reset book in the passenger door pocket 👍
😂
Yea just casually in the door pocket of a man we can’t name 😂
You vil own nothing and be happy. Not even this Mazda.
Hey thanks for noticing! That's why I put it there! AJ was right 🤣
I have 2016 cx-5 has 91 thousand miles and I love it .. its my first mazda and mine was made in Japan.. its very reliable and fun to drive..
We have a X30 AWD Turbo for a year now . Long time Ford guy who just loved the looks . We are thrilled with our Mazda
I know some will twitch when I say this but we had a Protege in the 90’s and it was a great car. Three members of our family used it for years. I would not hesitate to buy another one
Looks Sweet! I never gave Mazda a second thought thru my 40+ years of driving. They've certainly come a long long way.😲😲😲
