Wind and Wuthering is an absolute work of art from beginning to end. I don´t think it should be compared to Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, S.E.B.T.P., or indeed TLLDOB. Let me tell you I love all of the former. A Trick of The Tail and this one are different from the previous ones in more ways than just the with or without Peter issue,(I never understood all the fuss about that, by the way) and of course the latter albums are different from each other, too. I think Genesis is about the sum of the parts and how tight and profund they can sound irrespective of who wrote the main ideas of the song or indeed who did the singing. I will also add that I happen to love both singers and as of today, after more than forty years, still haven´t made up my mind who´s the winner, because it´s me who wins when I get to listen to both of them in different songs, or singing together in some parts.
Yeah it was surprising how well they still did after Gabriel's departure, at the time I had expected Wind and Wuthering to be a flop for fans when it came out, but it turned out to be the best they did IMO. But for whatever reason they couldn't keep that signature sound going after W&W and morphed into what they are today; not very listenable. I think Hackett's departure was the death of the Genesis we all knew, not Gabriel.
You have people who think Peter was forced from Genesis by Phil Collins for some reason (even though the two are good friends to this day and Phil was Peter's best man when he married 20 years ago). They blame Phil for taking Genesis more pop, even though all say in interviews that they were changing anyway. And, of course, Peter Gabriel solo stuff was rather pop too. The constant critics are just misfits that wanted the dozens who attended Genesis concerts in early 70s all to themselves.
Finally Genesis evolved in their best natural manner in all those years, and gave us the best music adapted to each years that is a bit like an historical and social picture of these times, even if they floated above all of that.
Great "opening of the Curtain", Nick and Alexa. To exploring Wind and Wuthering even further, perhaps review, All in a Mouse's Night, followed by Blood on the Rooftops. To complete the Album, a suggested last listen is of the Albums last three Songs heard together. They beautifully build into each other - Unquiet Slumbers for Sleepers, In that Quiet Earth and then to Afterglow.
@@Paularis81 don't think you can compare Genesis to Rush they are in a different league musically. Rush are a band i followed in my college days i then moved on to Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes etc.
@@keithisaacs6092 Yes, they're different. I know them well and I love both. I recommended Nick&Lex to start off with Wot Gorilla because there are some similarities in that song with La villa strangiato (like the urgency and vibe) and Nick&Lex like Rush and LVS so well.
The week this album came out, I walked 3 miles to the mall to buy it. Another 3 miles back on a cold grey winter day, just like the album cover. Got home and played it right away. Taking my coat off during the start of side 1 sounds like the album cover, and every time I hear that opening, it reminds me of that day.
Words and music by Tony Banks, the quiet keyboard wizard. One of his masterpieces. He's now a classical music composer. At that time, he mentionned often his admiration for Claude Debussy.
It was 1986. I was 15 I heard invisible touch. I loved it fell in love with that. And then I went to the bookstore where they sold albums. And suddenly I saw all these Genesis albums going back to 1970. At15 that was ancient times. I picked out wind and wuthering. I brought it to the cashier. And she said this is such an awesome album wait till you hear 11th or all of mar. I was such a new genesis fan. I had only heard invisible touch and Duke. I had no idea what I was about to walk into. Such an amazing album. Genesis is my favorite
This song combines 3 of my favourite themes: 1. Melodic symphonioc prog with lots of dynamic and tempo changes. 2. Sci -fi stories involving time loops, where the hero sees himself in a different time. Read the lyrics a bit closer. 3. Religious mythology. One of my favourite Genesis songs.
So many fans I've spoken to over the years have managed to miss the point of the story in the lyrics. My theory is the music is so good people forget to listen to the words :)
The beautiful thing is you don’t have to figure out which group is better. You just get to enjoy each of them for what they produce. Thanks for doing this. East Coast Racer and I’m in heaven. Cheers, Lex and Nick.
So Lovely to see you discover this and enjoy it so much! I first heard it when I was 14 in 1977. 45 years ago now and it still gives me goosebumps and makes the crown of my head sweat! First Genesis album heard from beginning to end ♥️♥️♥️
This album. Instrumental - a. "Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers..." b. "In that quiet earth" - the very last words of the book Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte.
Absolute masterpiece !!! Sometimes Wind and wuthering is my favourite post-gabriel album , sometimes A trick of the tail , either way both are in my top 5 Genesis records. Lots of love all round. 😁
Another great band I grew up with. Genesis are an English rock band formed in 1967. Peter Gabriel was their lead singer till he left to pursue a solo career in 1975. Then Phil Collins their drummer took over as lead singer in 1976. They had a lot of great hits such as "Follow You Follow Me", "Turn It On Again", "Misunderstanding", "Duchess", "No Reply At All", "Abacab", "Keep It Dark", "Paperlate", "You Might Recall", "That's All", "Invisible Touch", "Throwing It All Away", "Land of Confusion", "In Too Deep", "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" etc.
the band is spooky tooth the song is called higher circles...i know my music im 65 so i heard a bunch of amazing songs in my time on earth, peace ,nice to see a younger generation appreciate talent, have a super day.
So happy with this choice 👍👍👍🎯. Also, you're going to want to hear "Fountain of Salmacis" from Nursery Cryme...a deeper track from that album but sooo worth it.
I'm pretty sure that I mentioned this in the Supper's Ready comments, but in case anyone is interested - The Montreal based Genesis tribute band, The Musical Box, tours regularly. They acquired set pieces from Genesis and perform Genesis albums live in the manner Genesis did back in the day. I've seen them a few times (I've also seen Genesis and Hackett on tours playing Genesis), and until you see the band members consistently swapping out instruments mid-song, it's hard to imagine just what went into staging these works live. If you can see Genesis, Gabriel, or Hackett live, do. But if you want a real window into the past, give The Musical Box a try (I'm not affiliated with them at all).
I've seen The Musical Box twice now here in Atlanta before Covid, and you are correct. Fantastic musicians who do tremendous justice to the music of Genesis.
Straight up! The Musical Box provides a wonderful look at what early Genesis did. I had the chance to see them a few times pre covid and looking forward to their return.
So glad this masterpiece found its way to your ears ! Genesis is really the basis of prog rock in its symphonic side. Try All In A Mouse's Night from the same album. Cute story you could tell to a child going to bed ( as lots of Genesis tunes) and the final instrumental part is mindnumbing with Hackett's guitar (his last effort with the band) entangled with Banks keys
The last album with Steve Hackett. The first two songs (Eleventh Earl of Mar, One for the Vine) and the last one (Afterglow) are bangers, and everything in between is just great. This album has an eerie romantic feel, like autumn, like the cover.
Chicos.
I love my Genesis. They are another band that never disappoints. I think A Trick of the Tail is my favorite album of theirs. Lex is that beautiful necklace from your Michele Michele collection?
Wind And Wuthering is probably my favourite Genesis album, opens with The Eleventh Earl Of Mar, closes with Afterglow and has this as well. If you decide to listen to Afterglow, I'd suggest the Seconds Out live album version. It packs even more emotional punch.
Nick I knew you were going to say that before you said it!!!!!!!!!!!! Peter Benchley came into my restaurant in NJ 15 years after the movie and his table couldn’t stop talking about it. Too funny!😀
First of all, there is something heartwarming to see you bith with headphones on seriosuly listening to a kind of music, thats basically gone. With your cute little dog… Second, talking about lyrics. I have listened to Genesis for decades and still have no idea what they‘re singing about. (true for all music I listen to, maybe because I am not an english-native speaker but rather german) Third, I like Genesis better after Gabriel left. Guess it was the right move, as shocking as it was. It had been more theatre with music than later with Phil. Plus, production became much better and worked out. Probably because technology, too. Gabriel left this „theatre“-style behind with his solo music immediately, which is astonishing. As if they had been trapped in it together. The peak for me is „Secongs Out“. 🖖🏽🍀
That quote is from Jaws. Genesis is my all-time favorite band (after The Beatles, of course) along with Yes, Rush, and Supertramp, all the greatest music from the 70's and 80's!
Wonderful to see you and your enjoyment of my favorite band and their magic!!! Eleventh Earl of Mar is above all, my favorite song by them. And for the ultimate drowsy fantasy on that album, try "Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers". Love the reactions from both of you!! From Natt, Genesis fan since 1975..now you are too, good to have you aboard! (And I will be seeing guitarist Steve Hackett in Boulder, CO in March!) Long live Genesis fans like yourselves. (Rush is a close second for me!)
Nick's choice of word "cinematic" is so perfect. Genesis was always good at painting a picture. Even in their later "pop" period, songs like "Home by the Sea," "Driving the Last Spike," even radio hits like "No Son of Mine" you could see the scene in your mind's eye. They paint such a vivid picture, lyrically and musically. This era, especially, is excellent for these mellow, emotive songs. "Blood on the Rooftops," "Entangled," and "Mad Man Moon" are my personal favorites from this pair of albums (FYI, _Trick of the Tail_ and _Wind and Wuthering_ are the only two albums they did with this lineup; after Gabriel left, before Hackett left)
Great Genesis selection. I've just revisited this album (Wind and Wuthering) recently after not listening to it for quite some time. I'd forgotten how much I like it.
hi have you heard White Mountain by Genesis from the album Trespass from 1970 before Phil Collins joined the band it was the start of something very special an amazing band
I don't think you can beat this album or Trick of the Tail. Arguably their most creative and musical period. There's literally nothing else like them. Throw in Seconds Out and you have an incredible three album run.
Music is such a beautiful thing. I love the reaction music videos when ppl find these gems for the first time. I often wish I could rehear music for the first time.
Sadly their last album with Hackett on lead guitar. Heavy doses of Banks on a lot of this album. For me the combo of Banks on keyboard with Hackett on lead produced some of the greatest "progressive" rock of all time. Collins is always great on the drums and in this album you can tell he's feeling more and more confident as the lead vocalist. Rutherford has his fingerprint all over this as well. Was lucky to see this tour live as a junior in highschool. My memory is they played this album cover to cover to open the concert but I may well have and still might be impaired. Thanks for helping me relive that memory. You're the best! FYI for an old time Genesis fanatic the mere thought of mentioning Suppers Ready with that weird beyond the rainbow song is sacriledge😂
For future reference, Peter Gabriel left the band after The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, which was released in 1974. Afterwards it's ALWAYS Phil Collins singing lead. Wind and Wuthering was released in December 1976, so it's Phil Collins singing and playing drums. This is a great song, but really the entire album is great. Maybe not quite as good as A Trick of the Tail, but still fantastic! To me this was Genesis' last great album.
Add one more Lead Singer to Genesis. 1997's Calling All Stations Album. Ray Wilson. A Man with a great Stand alone Voice. His timbre was more similar to that of Peter.
@@You-Deef "100 times better"? Hyperbole much? Of course it's an opinion!! What do you think we're talking about here, scientific fact?!? It's music, for Chrissake! IN MY OPINION A Trick of the Tail is BETTER than Wind and Wuthering. Happy now?
@@You-Deef I didn't "see the light", Zippy. I merely spelled out for your benefit what would have been obvious to anyone with half a brain who read my post. Some things are SELF-EVIDENT.
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” Classic moment from JAWS. We always used it at work to mean the project required much more than originally thought. Classic understatement. Supposedly, Scheider used it as an ad lib throughout filming because the “support boat” meant to steady the boat carrying lights, equipment, etc. was terribly inadequate but was all the production budget allowed. That scene is such a suspenseful moment complete with menacing music. 🦈⛴ (apologies if this comment is a repeat - I accidentally erased first attempt. Haha. Da dah da dah). ✨🤪
I can't believe you two don't have any Genesis album covers perched behind you. I hope you've corrected that by now...😊 I've been around since this stuff was brand new and before and I can tell you that Genesis has unwaveringly remained my favorite, having been weaned on the Beatles, also in real time. Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett recently recounted hearing from a friend who knew John Lennon that John considered only two bands to be "true sons of the Beatles," as the great one put it: Genesis and Electric Light Orchestra. And Lennon said in a WNEW New York interview in 1973 that the album he was most into at the moment was Genesis' *Selling England by the Pound.*
It's really a good idea to revisit any of the Genesis songs to dissect the lyrics. They always tell a story & their early stuff is very British influenced so can sometimes be hard for us non Brits to get right away. (for example: The Isle of Plenty, if you know the lyrics Peter is basically reading an ad for sales at several British grocery stores. Even mentioning the stores by name, Finefair discount, Safeway.) Listen for: ENGLISH RIBS OF BEEF CUT DOWN TO 47P LB PEEK FREANS FAMILY ASSORTED FROM 171/2P TO 12P FAIRY LIQUID GIANT- SLASHED FROM 20P TO 171/2P TABLE JELLIES AT 4P EACH ANCHOR BUTTER DOWN TO 11P FOR A 1/2 LB BIRD'S EYE DAIRY CREAM SPONGE ON OFFER THIS WEEK.
Their next two albums after Peter left were brilliant and after all 4 of the 5 members were still there and sounding wonderful. And Phil is at his best .
This album (W&W) and its predecessor (Trick of the Tail) could be considered bookends These two were the first without Peter Gabriel and just before guitarist Steve Hackett left for his solo career LOTS of gems on these two Try "Blood on the Rooftop" from this album, a beautiful classical guitar intro from Steve Hackett on that one (Nik!) Do yourself a favor, take an evening and listen to both back to back Then, listen to Seconds Out (their live album from this era) their peak creative period IMHO Your ears will thank you!

Mentioned before on your channel, but Genesis are one of my top 3 all time favorite bands. Also, I loved both versions, Peter and Phil. Always love seeing Genesis reactions and watching people discover this amazing music for the first time. PLEASE do more! Here are some suggestions...The Musical Box, Can-Utility and the Coastliners, Watcher of the Skies, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight, I Know What I Like (very interesting track because it was one of their first attempts to depart a bit from their prog selves and try to make a more "commercial" hit), The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, In The Cage, you already did Ripples, but basically ANYTHING else from A Trick of the Tail, with Dancing on a Volcano and Squonk must-listens, Down and Out, and Deep in the Motherlode from And Then There Were Three, first album after Steve left, and then Behind the Lines and Man of our Times from Duke, which I consider to be the album that perfectly highlights the band's transition from prog geniuses to powerhouse hit makers.
This the last Genesis Album with Steve Hackett on guitar. It is a masterpiece. The closeness to Pink Floyd is there. Genesis, however, are more accomplished technical players. Floyd's songs are wonderful and atmospheric but Genesis are all virtuosos and Tony Banks is a real composer.
Steve Hackett guitar playing on this song can be see on you tube genesis revisited to see his magnificence and nit confuse with keyboards of banks It’s worth a look to
The whole of "wind and wuthering" is a very autumnal/winter listen, here in the UK 1976 was a very hot summer, but this album is perfectly suited to winter nights, crisp air, clear night sky with a bright clear moon, and very frosty! 😂, to these ears anyhow🌙🎶🌕😁
You can try the 3 tracks closing the album Wind and Wuthering (linked together). Unquiet Slumbers/Quiet Earth/Afterglow. First 2 tracks are instrumental. Deep cut on this album: Blood on the Rooftops...a gem!
Here is a movie tie-in for you some of the lyrics to this song remind me of the plot of a Rudyard Kipling story they turn into a movie starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine the movie is called the Man Who Would Be King released in 1975
I love your Genesis reactions. But please do the beautiful ballad Your Own Special Way from that same album. Both of you will love it. It’s already stuck in my head just thinking about it.
If you enjoyed this, as I have since the mid-80's, I urge you to listen to "An Island In The Darkness" from Strictly Inc. It's from 1995 - Tony's last rock album before going classical. The vocalist on the album is Jack Hues from Wang Chung. I've never cared for that band, but he did a great job here.
Not only is it great, but also playing the full album would show the interconnectedness of the tracks - like the end of "One for the Vine" borrowing a motif from the previous track on the album, "The Eleventh Earl of Mar".
Hey guys...its been awhile since I've commented. I've been here all along...just that I switched from watching on my phone to watching on my tv. (Can't make comments from the tv) (you guys made the big screen...) Anyway, great you've dipped into Wind & Wuthering. Fantastic album. Keep going with it...you won't be disappointed. Also... I just had to put my two cents in here about the music and lyrics. When I got my hands on a new album back in the day...I would put the headphones on and really analyze it to the core. Looking at the artwork, following the lyrics, etc. Nick my man...yes Nick...for me it all starts with the music. I don't care if the lyrics are the best in the world...they are nothing if the music stinks. If the music is good the lyrics are icing on the cake. Fortunately, artists like Genesis and Yes for example the lyrics are extremely good. It wouldn't be music without the music. Love you guys soooooo much...you're awesome!!

Yes. One for the vine is boring af
I have a lot of Genesis albums, but this still is my most favourite!
One for the vine from Phill Collins Genesis is an amazing music.
This album is the ultimate Genesis headphone album, so pastoral and so majestic. The album cover fits the music to perfection. Great reaction guys!
I haven't heard this for over 35 years yet I remember every bar. Weird. Thanks guys. 🍁
I love Wind and Wuthering from start to finish.
A MASTERPIECE!!! AMAZING!!
Brilliant track that can take you to another world complete with a meaningful message too.
I had to watch you two enjoy it again, It makes me happy that you appreciate it so much!
Banks does the swelling keyboards so well. Especially the multiple Mellotron usage!
Words and music by Tony Banks, the quiet keyboard wizard. One of his masterpieces. He's now a classical music composer. At that time, he mentionned often his admiration for Claude Debussy.
"Blood On The Rooftops" , "Mad Mad Moon" , "Afterglow" and "Entangled" are a few more songs from Phil Collins Genesis that you would love
A messianic figure, Christlike
The beautiful thing is you don’t have to figure out which group is better. You just get to enjoy each of them for what they produce. Thanks for doing this. East Coast Racer and I’m in heaven. Cheers, Lex and Nick.
Tony Banks, the chord king! This is one of the most beautiful tracks in popular music!
Yes Tony Banks IS the dreamer that make us Dream Alive .so beautiifull .
Couldn't agree more, the most low profile, but maybe, the real soul of Genesis.
Absolute magical tune from the Great Genesis 💫❤️☝️ thanks for the reaction guys 💫☝️
This song's story telling, lyrically and musically, is some of the best. I've always loved it.
So Lovely to see you discover this and enjoy it so much!
I first heard it when I was 14 in 1977. 45 years ago now and it still gives me goosebumps and makes the crown of my head sweat!
First Genesis album heard from beginning to end ♥️♥️♥️
Wind and Wuthering is a fantastic album! Another great reaction guys! Love your channel, Gary
Love it when you react to Genesis. I think you'll really like the airy, dreamy feeling of their song Entangled from Trick of the Tail (1975).
This album. Instrumental - a. "Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers..." b. "In that quiet earth" - the very last words of the book Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte.
my JAWS ache from that quote. Thanks for the Genesis!
You have to listen to this whole LP! Fantastic!
Absolute masterpiece !!! Sometimes Wind and wuthering is my favourite post-gabriel album , sometimes A trick of the tail , either way both are in my top 5 Genesis records. Lots of love all round. 😁
"Blood on the Rooftops" is the standout track.
Couldn’t agree with you more.
And All in a Mouse's Night.
This is the standout track imo. I have to relisten to Blood on the Rooftops.
Oh, good! Now I don’t to request this brilliant song. The entire album is a classic! 💛💛
the band is spooky tooth the song is called higher circles...i know my music im 65 so i heard a bunch of amazing songs in my time on earth, peace ,nice to see a younger generation appreciate talent, have a super day.
A MB show is like going to Prog Church
My favorite band, especially their years from 69-80... magical music, so glad you guys enjoy them.
Thanks for the review! "Blood on the Rooftops" from the same album is magnificent. Roy Scheider uttered those words in the big fishy movie! 😉
Yes indeed it is! Great eye!!!
Tony, of course, DID get hired to write movie soundtracks, a selection of the pieces collected on SOUNDTRACKS.
Wind And Wuthering is probably my favourite Genesis album, opens with The Eleventh Earl Of Mar, closes with Afterglow and has this as well. If you decide to listen to Afterglow, I'd suggest the Seconds Out live album version. It packs even more emotional punch.
Firth of the fifth by genesis probably one of the best prog tracks ever made.
Nick I knew you were going to say that before you said it!!!!!!!!!!!! Peter Benchley came into my restaurant in NJ 15 years after the movie and his table couldn’t stop talking about it. Too funny!😀
Isn't it a wonder that we who grew up with this loved so many bands in the 70's. YES, PINK FLOYD, MOODY BLUES, GENESIS, ELP, THE WHO, & KING CRIMSON.
First of all, there is something heartwarming to see you bith with headphones on seriosuly listening to a kind of music, thats basically gone. With your cute little dog…
Second, talking about lyrics. I have listened to Genesis for decades and still have no idea what they‘re singing about. (true for all music I listen to, maybe because I am not an english-native speaker but rather german)
Third, I like Genesis better after Gabriel left.
Same with me, but then I would add Floyd, King Crimson and Kansas.
This is the 1st Genesis album I had bought. What a great song. Love you guys!!
This whole album is phenomenal. My favorite Genesis album.
No band tests Genesis, heavenly music done like no other....
@@semchen9 I stand corrected.
@@frankpentangeli7945 No Biggie.
And the request: sublime. Great choice and reaction. Now back to the reaction already in progress. Lol. ✨🤪
Also ... you wear it well. Sweet. 🥥
The Jaws was released in 1975 and Wind & wuthering in 1976. Close but unfortunately no cigar… 😅 Cheers from Sweden
Jaws, which was the first Summer Blockbuster movie.
Even mentioning the stores by name, Finefair discount, Safeway.) Listen for: ENGLISH RIBS OF BEEF CUT DOWN TO 47P LB
PEEK FREANS FAMILY ASSORTED FROM 171/2P TO 12P
FAIRY LIQUID GIANT- SLASHED FROM 20P TO 171/2P
TABLE JELLIES AT 4P EACH
ANCHOR BUTTER DOWN TO 11P FOR A 1/2 LB
BIRD'S EYE DAIRY CREAM SPONGE ON OFFER THIS WEEK.
That is the amazing Tony Banks on keyboards. One of the best in rock and roll today.
Their next two albums after Peter left were brilliant and after all 4 of the 5 members were still there and sounding wonderful. And Phil is at his best .
The unfortunate departure of Steve Hackett was without1 question the bbeginning of the end
Another great prog band you need to revisit is Marillion. Must listens: Neverland, Ocean Cloud, Invisible Man.
I know, Marillion take all genres but at the end is unique as Marillion is. I hope they listen Ocean Cloud w Lyrics.
You are talking about post Fish Marillion. That isn’t Marillion. Fish was Marillion.
@@martinkulkarni3569 so don’t listen this new Marillion and stay stuck w Fish
Both Marillions are great. Fish for 10 years and h for 33 years.
This album (W&W) and its predecessor (Trick of the Tail) could be considered bookends
These two were the first without Peter Gabriel and just before guitarist Steve Hackett left for his solo career
LOTS of gems on these two
Try "Blood on the Rooftop" from this album, a beautiful classical guitar intro from Steve Hackett on that one (Nik!)
Do yourself a favor, take an evening and listen to both back to back
Then, listen to Seconds Out (their live album from this era) their peak creative period IMHO
Your ears will thank you!
Agree 100%
Even ... and then there were ... is a good album. Better than all the crap done after. I have mix feelings about behind the lines
@@carlosgarcao2847
Agree. Some gems on ATTWT
Actually liked them thru Duke (which was a great mix of old & new, better than ATTWT Imo)
After that, kinda repeated the same old 80s formula with Pop hits
People like this just have no idea the greatness of this beloved band.. they are ROYALITY.. in England but probably the whole world.. Genesis fan and lover since the mid 70s and for life here.. W & W has always been my favorite album since it came out in 76.. has helped me thru many a tough time in life. By the way its one Tony's two favorites also..Duke being the other.
NicknLex, I meant no disrespect to you two with my comment, if you even took it that way at all. My "People like this" comment are for general folks who haven't listened to this band very long or haven't drove deep into their stuff. That's all I meant. Love your show and keep up the great work looking into bands music. Pleaaassse do more of Genesis music, you will be hooked, both of you, promise. :) Lex you are gorgeous by the way.. :)
Listen to A Trick Of A Tail & Wind & Wuthering. My 2 favorite GENESIS albums.
Mine 2.
The lyrics tell the story guys and adds to the beauty of the song
So glad you’ve discovered the joy that is Genesis
This the last Genesis Album with Steve Hackett on guitar. It is a masterpiece. The closeness to Pink Floyd is there. Genesis, however, are more accomplished technical players. Floyd's songs are wonderful and atmospheric but Genesis are all virtuosos and Tony Banks is a real composer.
Steve Hackett guitar playing on this song can be see on you tube genesis revisited to see his magnificence and nit confuse with keyboards of banks
It’s worth a look to
Steve hackett
The whole of "wind and wuthering" is a very autumnal/winter listen, here in the UK 1976 was a very hot summer, but this album is perfectly suited to winter nights, crisp air, clear night sky with a bright clear moon, and very frosty! 😂, to these ears anyhow🌙🎶🌕😁
"very autumnal/winter listen" :D VERY much so :).
You can try the 3 tracks closing the album Wind and Wuthering (linked together). Unquiet Slumbers/Quiet Earth/Afterglow. First 2 tracks are instrumental. Deep cut on this album: Blood on the Rooftops...a gem!
Here is a movie tie-in for you some of the lyrics to this song remind me of the plot of a Rudyard Kipling story they turn into a movie starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine the movie is called the Man Who Would Be King released in 1975
The fact that Trick and Wind came out less than 2 years from each other was amazing output...
Another superb timeless track from Genesis 👏👏👏 nice one Nick and Lex 👏👍 thank you yet again!!
Great reaction. Soundtrack of my life... Wind and Wuthering, my favourite work of this legendary band.
Eleventh earl of mar and Blood on the rooftops are great tracks on this album also.
I love your Genesis reactions. But please do the beautiful ballad Your Own Special Way from that same album. Both of you will love it. It’s already stuck in my head just thinking about it.
I was looking for someone else to point out this beautiful song! I love the whole album but this was the song that brought me to this album.
If you enjoyed this, as I have since the mid-80's, I urge you to listen to "An Island In The Darkness" from
Strictly Inc. It's from 1995 - Tony's last rock album before going classical. The vocalist on the album is Jack Hues from Wang Chung. I've never cared for that band, but he did a great job here.
This entire album could easily be reacted to. It's that great. Hackett's last run with the band and perhaps his best of the post-Gabriel works.
(Can't make comments from the tv) (you guys made the big screen...)
Anyway, great you've dipped into Wind & Wuthering.
Thank you for your kind words and support!! Love having you, and can’t believe we made it to your big screen! So humbled, Lex
