  • Miata did not want to start last night after stopping at 7/11. It was 98 degrees so i thought may it overheated? Found out the fans work! After waiting 2 hours, it started back up. maybe its the ignition switch or starter? on to the next step!
Steps to Test an NA Miata Fan Relay
    1. Disconnect the Battery: Ensure safety by disconnecting the battery before starting the test.
    2. Locate the Diagnostic Connector: Find the diagnostic connector in the engine bay of your NA Miata.
    3. Prepare a Jumper Wire: Use a jumper wire to connect the GND (ground) terminal to the TFA (fan) terminal in the diagnostic connector.
    4. Reconnect the Battery: Reconnect the battery to provide power for the test.
    5. Check the Fan: With the jumper wire in place, turn the ignition to the "ON" position. If the fan turns on, the relay is functioning correctly.
    6. Remove the Jumper Wire: After testing, remove the jumper wire and disconnect the battery again for safety.
    7. Reassemble: Reconnect the diagnostic connector and ensure everything is secure.
By following these steps, you can easily test the fan relay on your NA Miata to determine if it's working properly.
NOTE: The passenger fan turns on when the engine gets too hot. When your car idles only the driver side fan turns on occasionally.

For some reason, this looks like the car is flipped on its side.
