They went on an insane, dominant 3-year run from 2012-2014, in which they won two championships and reached the conference finals in between. They were virtually unbeatable in the playoffs during those years. Then it all fell apart. Mike Richards was arrested at the border with a truckload of OxyContin. As a Raider fan, beautiful South Central I began as a Los Angeles Raider fan, I can honestly say this could have been a two-part video or series. Yeah it wasn't easy taking that trip down memory lane and calling out exactly what was going to happen next while watching video, but there's so much more dysfunction and unnecessary drama involved in the lowest points to the time we went 8 and 8 in back-to-back seasons and kept firing coaches. Putting That 12 win season aside, there has still been drama and unbelievable bad decisions made that this collapse is still far from over. However like a married man who continues to stay with his cheating wife I'm still Raider fan I will always be
Completely agree. Still wish we could be living in a world where we left gruden until we got to Vegas. Let coach Del Rio maintain the great football they were playing. I had a goooood feeling those years man, he was beloved by me

Reminds me of FSU-Auburn championship game where Jimbo hadn’t changed their play calls and Auburn had FSU’s former qb coach reading the calls into the early 3rd quarter when Kelvin Benjamin finally noticed lol If someone from your team/staff is suddenly on the opposing sideline it’s probably best to change your calls... I mean, it’s not cheating if you never did anything wrong in gaining that knowledge :p
Sounds like Callahan was Riker to Gruden’s Picard lol, never wanting his own ship. I mean, I think this is seriously overblown in reality, but it’s definitely funny.
David C Agreed. But Romo was a HELL of a teammate. Ask anyone who played with him. They always say he was the first one to come to the aid of a teammate and was a cool guy to be around. He lived and breathed football

As a lifelong Bucs fan I naturally came here after watching the Collapse of the 02 Bucs. Both are great episodes and props on creating a great series here guys. Really enjoy watching every episode even if I'm not particularly passionate about the team on a specific episode you still tell a great story and make it fun to watch and do it in a nice >20min format so I can squeeze in an episode throughout the day whenever I have the time. Keep up the great work guys.
This is an interesting story about the Raiders. I’ll never forget coming home from work back in 2002 and watching them take on the Pats. Tom Brady’s arm was going forward, therefore it wasn’t a fumble.
As a Raiders fan, thank you for listening to the fans. Thank you for this one, although it still hurts. And to think Kiffin wanted to draft Johnson before the Rodgers trade talk collapsed... damn. Bad picks (McClain and DHB for example) and bad personnel decisions (Dennis Allen anyone?) are still lingering the Silver and Black. Can we get an AB collapse video, or one from the Astros after their loss vs the White Sox in 2005? Another great example of one team reaching the stars, and then falling so freaking fast. But seriously, please, do the AB one.
One of the hardest parts of being a Raiders fan is having to grapple with Al Davis's legacy. He is the architect of everything the Raiders represent, and of its 3 Super Bowl championships. But he's also THE reason the Raiders are one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL since the 90s. The idolatry around Al is disturbing at times.
And he passed away a little over a decade ago and yet the Raiders still are still a huge mess, aside from 2016 and 2021, it has been nothing but a disaster for more than 20 years now, I like to think it started sometime in the 1980s because I think the Raiders have made the playoffs I think just 7 times since 1985
Could you start a new series called "Rebuild", where you take various franchises that were laughingstocks or chokers (Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks post 2001, Green Bay before Brett favre and Reggie White came in the 90s, Boston red Sox overcoming the world series drought, etc.), and their rebuilds to relevance? Great content all around, just an interesting idea for your channel. Thanks- A Devoted Wisconsin Sports Fan
I wish I could come across anything positive about my beloved Raiders. It’s such a miserable and embarrassing experience. I recently did a deep dive into their success as a team since I was born in the mid 80s. They are at the bottom tier (8 playoff appearances/6 playoff wins/3 conf title game appearances) with the likes of the Jets (8/7/3) Lions (10/3/2), Cardinals (6/6/2), and the Browns (7/4/2). They have 39 combined playoff appearances compared to the 70 that Sean Payton (9), Mike Tomlin (11), Pete Carroll (12) Belichick (19), Andy Reid (19) have in many less seasons…. 103 to 175+. In all fairness one of those Browns playoff appearances was spearheaded by a young Bill Belichick
You could do a whole segment on Al Davis draft choices. He had a passion for Heisman Trophy winners, even though most Heisman winners have had less than brilliant careers in the NFL. He liked to watch the college bowl games, and would see some otherwise not brilliant college kid make one great play, and decide on the basis of that play alone to take a chance on them. And then he drafted Bo Jackson, who played full-time for the Kansas City Royals after refusing to play for the Bucs, and managed to work out a deal where Jackson played for the Raiders after the Royals season was over. Davis made some terrible picks, then would balance them with a choice like Jackson. It's well worth digging into.
I think one of the craziest things is that so many of those players shown at the start basically had their careers end within a year or two of the superbowl. Gannon, Romanowski, Rod Woodson, Garner, Rice were all out of the nfl by 2004. After 2003, Callahan didn't coach again until 2012. Colemen, Porter and Woodson were the only players to make it past 2004.
You couldn’t have said it any better,,,, he was a control freak that lead the departure between him a CHUCKY ,,,, what’s funny is that the media and the NFL want people to think that GRUDEN was traded when all along he got fired , they said raiders had gotten extra draft picks which was funny becuz in those years the raiders were over there salary cap .
@@loyal2thesoil412 I don’t criticize him for the Gruden trade as much as I criticize him for not stepping aside when he was old. Our fate likely would’ve been the same if Gruden was traded or not, tho we might’ve won in 2002. Something that could’ve changed it is if Al stepped aside after 2003. He was GMJR with the Pens post 2017 before it happened.
@@sawyertuide7636 al definitely cemented his legacy as an NFL pioneer but his style of management was just outdated. His ideas were outdated. He couldn't keep up with other franchises. And it cost his team losing seasons and helped cement a losing culture. I feel like his son mark might be the same way. Our franchise is cursed because of the Davis name. I wanna see the raiders get a 4th ring before I die. I'm still young.
I became a Raiders fan the year we lost that Superbowl, I was like 11 years old growing up in northern California, I was young but I knew a little bit about football and a little bit of the raiders I had seen a few of their games that year mainly because my friends at school would always talk about it and the day of the SB as we we're driving through the streets and seeing everyone wearing Raiders Jersey's, signs saying honk for the Raiders and the joy it brought fans seeing their team in another SB was the moment I truly became a Raiders fan and I knew this was my team, unfortunately as we all know it was a night to forget and the years that have followed except for 2016 have been truly painful, I have faith that we will eventually turn things around and return to the glory days but until then as any loyAL fan would do I will continue to cheer and support my Raiders it's the only team I have ever known and the only one I will ever love.. RAAAAIDERSSSSS!! RN4L!!
My favorite part as a raiders fan is when we were good for a solid season, and then lost our qb before the playoffs. And then after that we thought it would be better to trade our entire team :’)
@Donavon Howard why would a team trade its best players to get better? Derek Carr sucks but his contract is worth 6 good defensive players that could've helped Mack. And Cooper will probably be in the super bowl this year. So whose winning?
This was very interesting. Would like to see one about the Buffalo Bills & their playoff drought after the Music City Miracle. They had the longest playoff drought in North American sports (MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL, etc.) and finally broke it after 17 years! To put in perspective how long that was, I was 13 years old when their last playoff last happened. It took until I was 31 until they finally broke that streak! Went from being a middle school kid to a married, grown ass adult! And it all happened after an insanely stupid way to lose a playoff game...a game in which the owner forced the HC to start the backup QB instead of the healthy starter QB that lead the team the entire year. Crazy story.
I will never forget that Super Bowl. We anchored in the middle of the pacific so the sat signal wouldn't get disrupted because the Captain was a Raider fan. Only 2 people on the ship thought the Bucs could win and we won a LOT of bets. By halftime we were underway again and the signal never faltered so we got to see every glorious second.
If they had met anyone other than Jon Gruden in the Superbowl. We would have won it. And that particular Raiders team would've forever been known as"the Over the Hill Gang"
Left out the fact that the Raiders always do Raider things.. like keep Derek Carr in a meaningless 2016 game after already securing the wild card, having him drop back on a 3rd and long.. trading Khalil Mack and Coop.. Not paying players. Making dumb trades lmaoo.. we have a list!
I'm curious if you still feel the same about the raiders trade now? With their draft picks from 2019 they had, arguably, one of the best drafts in the past 10 years. They got clelin ferrell, Josh Jacobs, Jonathan Abrams, Hunter Renfrow, and Max Crosby. All of which, except kinda for Clelin and Abrams, because of his injury, over preformed in their debut for the raiders. Then they also got Tyrell Williams, the entire offensive line back into shape, and even though people are really arguing over Carrr, his stats, and play seems to be improving year after year. But I guess you could just generalize them and say, "Raiders will always do raiders things." If by that you meant, rebuild a team entirely to become a hopefully dominant franchise, then yeah lol, the raiders just did that, or at the very least are moving in the right direction.
Great video, you broke everything down in great detail. Hopefully Chucky will turn the ship around around just like he did in 2000, but if not I’ll still be a die hard RAIDER ☠️🏴☠️
That was inevitable. You dont win 4 straight Cups,& make 5 straight Finals without inevitably falling off. Especially with the Oilers running around back then. Ya won 19 straight series-what else could ya want? But I do get your point.
@@jonnybgood1105 yeah I know that now that I watched the video - I just rage posted this when I first started watching it. Lifelong raiders fan living in new england.
@Arthur Lockhart Jr. no you're not correct about the 97 raiders they had a great center - a fantastic left guard - their O line was nice. they had jett as second receiver and desmond howard as third - no scrub there their TE was really good too. yeah their defense was pretty bad
It’s kind of crazy in retrospect that the Raiders made a really good trade to extract a ton of value for Gruden... and then it ended up costing them the Super Bowl because things broke right in the NFC and they didn’t change the locks.
They also didn't really draft anybody worth anything with those two 1sts and two 2nd rounders. That was a team that was setup to naturally replace their aging players ala the Steelers but they drafted duds and the players got old FAST.
Been a raider fan all my life. As far as i know.. its crazy how this team was one of the best teams to watch every Sunday to a team of collapse. 60s - 80s raiders were the most winning team in the league with 3 superbowl titles. But in 1986, That changed the legacy of the Raiders. Al lost his mind & the league knew he was done. The 90s were interesting. Raiders were a good team to watch but couldn't beat the power house teams. Also the relocation back to Oakland did gave them some motivation but wasnt enough. But 1998 changed it all. 2000 Jon gruden led them winning their 1st afc west title since 1990 when they were in LA, 1st for Oakland since 1976. Early 2000s was perfect until once again Al became Al again. Probably in my opinion one of the worst decisions in raiders history. February 18 2002 on my birthday, dude trades jon gruden for the bucs. Gets beat in the superbowl, & team when to disaster. 2003-2005 was just the aftermath of the superbowl. 2006 the team when from collapse to diarrhea. Since then, al never found a way to bring them back . 2011 he passes away, Mark davis comes in town. 2012- 2014 was terrible. 2015 & 2016 seemed like maybe the Raiders can rise again. 2017 team falls apart. 2018 Mark brought Gruden back to Oakland to refix history.. 2019 seemed like hope. But now its 2020, a new decade. with Las Vegas as their new home, Jon Gruden has to find a way to hype up his new fans in sin city. Can jon gruden bring the Raiders back to the Commitment to Excellence & take the Raiders back to glory giving Raider nation their 4th Superbowl title? Or will it just be another collapse. Will see, stay tune.
I just realized: if jamarcus Russell wasn't a monumental bust, he'd probably still be playing. Which is wild to think. The fact that he got out of the league so quick just makes it feel like he was drafted a lot longer ago than he really was.
They would’ve made it back to the playoffs in 2011... But Carson Palmer fell apart, Tebow happened, they lost 3 out of 4, you get the point. It was probably best for the NFL and the Raiders because Hue would’ve coached this team for around 3 more years if it wasn’t for that, and probably still coaching today, he’d be the replacement for Marvin Lewis in Cincy.
The Raiders finally have the right coach in Antonio Pierce and the right man in the front office with Tom Telesco. After nearly a quarter century worth of misery, the Raiders are on the right track again.

And he passed away a little over a decade ago and yet the Raiders still are still a huge mess, aside from 2016 and 2021, it has been nothing but a disaster for more than 20 years now, I like to think it started sometime in the 1980s because I think the Raiders have made the playoffs I think just 7 times since 1985
Raiders, Jets, Titans, and Bucs all in one playoff season? Crazy times back then

Al Davis came back to life to flip off Antonio Brown

Damian lillards buzzer beater against OKC deserves a deep rewind
I think one of the craziest things is that so many of those players shown at the start basically had their careers end within a year or two of the superbowl. Gannon, Romanowski, Rod Woodson, Garner, Rice were all out of the nfl by 2004. After 2003, Callahan didn't coach again until 2012. Colemen, Porter and Woodson were the only players to make it past 2004.
Gruden can have his own collapse episode now 😂😂😂✨
As much of a legend as he is, Davis single handedly destroyed the organization that he claimed to love. And the team has never truly recovered.
And now they are moving out of Oakland... again.
The Raiders should have died with Al Davis

So when is Collapse 2: Electric Boogaloo featuring Jon Gruden going to drop?

I just realized: if jamarcus Russell wasn't a monumental bust, he'd probably still be playing. Which is wild to think. The fact that he got out of the league so quick just makes it feel like he was drafted a lot longer ago than he really was.
