Vince is a legend. I think he makes it to the HOF. Greatest dunker of all time. He's played in 4 decades. 90's, 00's, 10's, and 20's. Just insane to think about. He's been in every role possible from rising young star, all star, superstar, contributing starter, key bench player, deep depth player, to end of bench mentor. Wish he could've gotten a ring but respect that he chose to go to teams that would give minutes so he can actually play. That experience makes him a great analyst now because he's been there and understands all roles plus had actually played with a lot of the old legends and young guys.
Man... you brought back some good (?) memories. I love your videos. Keep up the good work. You failed to mention the whole Kidd migraine ordeal and how great VC was once his 1st yr with the Nets. He averaged like 27 for the Nets.
Yeah, that 2004-05 Astros team was so much fun. It had guys like Berkman, Oswalt, Beltran, and Everett in their primes, along with the end of Biggio, Bagwell, and Ausmus in their primes. I thought they were a bit unlucky to be swept by the White Sox in the 2005 WS. Every game was within reach for the Astros, just couldn’t find a way to win.
@@Jase_Gamez I mean the won the world series in 2017, 12 years later. Directly after that first appearance they set records for worst teams in MLB history.
Nets fan here, everybody keeps forgetting that Kenyon Martin was the Net's best player after Kidd during the Finals against the Spurs but got sick. They were tied 2-2 heading back to New Jersey when Kenyon Martin got the flu. The NJ Nets then went on to lose the last two games of the Finals with Kenyon Martin playing sick. I believed the Nets had a good shot at winning the Finals or at least getting to a game 7 had Kmart stayed healthy.
I remember these teams so much. I used to love the team before they moved to Brooklyn and then I lost total interest in NBA tbh. I really miss them but I'm glad RJ got a ring eventually with the Cavs, he was my favorite player. Also could you imagine Carter if he was on those 03/04 teams? With Kenyon and Kittles
It was a disastrous story for a team that had so much potential; ultimately, cutting costs hurt them dramatically and have not been able to truly recover since 2003.
13:00 that was when the Nets to start the 2007-08 season moved to a new arena (temporary) eleven miles south of the Meadowlands, affectionately known as "The Rock" in Newark - Prudential Center
The Nets of the 2000s were in that awkward era of the East between the end of Michael Jordan and the beginning of LeBron James. Too bad they couldn’t win at least one series.
Thus that early 2000's era (i.e '02-'06)of the NBA is a great example of why commentators and fans such as myself some support having "intra-conference" Finals. Perfect example would be in 2002 with the Kings and Lakers. I hope in near future that they consider this proposal? The NBA goes to seeding beginning with the Conference Finals and rename them the Final 4. If that means an all East or all West Championship Finals, so be it. Imagine in 2018, how great would a Houston/Golden State NBA Finals would have been instead of Lebron carrying on his back at best a so-so Cavs team in an otherwise weak NBA East that season? While the first 2 rounds of the playoffs **would still be the same format that been in effect for a while now, i.e Intra-Conference games only within the East and West Division. Back to this topic. In those 2 back-back finals appearance the then NJ Nets had no chance against the Spurs and Lakers. The then Jersey team were very lucky to win 2 games in '03. With that said moving up about 15 years later in 2019, I think it might be time for Prokhorov to consider selling the now Brooklyn Nets as well. Might be only chance for the Nets to become a strong contender again.
Great vid. Jason Kidd was under appreciated for years. Steve Nash got the praise and MVP's while Kidd had a better overall game and actually lead his teams to the finals with less talent which Nash never did.
Him playing in a tougher conference doesn't take away from him playing with way more talent than Kidd and achieving less. Spurs and Suns were running the west in Nash's MVP reign. D'antoni didn't believe in Defense
What are u talking about bro J kidd was dragging a young Kenyan Martin and scrubs to the finals. Nash had Amare...Johnson... prime Shawn Marion...prime barbosa, a few other really good players. You're really trying to say Nash didn't have way more talent built around him than Kidd? C'mon son
Yes Nash played in a tougher conference. The suns were also winning 60+ games in that conference. Just couldn't deliver at the end. At the End of the day....J Kidd won more with less
The Nets wouldn’t have made it past the second round in the West back then. They would’ve been a 5th seed (at best) behind LA, San Antonio, Phoenix, and Dallas.
We need a collapse video of the KD/Kyrie/Harden Nets. Might be the biggest disappointment in NBA History. That team looked unstoppable and never got a chance to go for it all.
It's so hard today to think back and remember they were the New Jersey Nets at one time. I only think of them as the Brooklyn Nets ever never as once New Jersey anymore. Thanks for the reminder.
See, I’m the opposite. I’ve only ever seen them as the New Jersey Nets since that’s what they were when I started watching sports. Weird to think they moved 10 years ago
I don’t know. It’s one of those relocations that worked out for both sides. I know that people from New Jersey are upset that the Nets left, but at least you still got to keep the Devils, and at least you’re not Oakland, they lost the Warriors and Raiders to San Francisco and Las Vegas, and are going to lose the A’s soon.
Depending on how they wanna push this series (season/decade long collapses versus season/game long collapses) I think there's a certain Superbowl 51 that could use a collapse examination
Rewinder episode. Although if SB nation is still a thing on YT in 5-8 years we could see one. Considering the way things have gone since then for the Falcons.
I respect this video alot. As someone who grew up in New Jersey all my life, Jason Kidd single-handedly took the Nets to the finals twice. Against the Spurs, it was like no one was even paying attention what Kidd and the Nets were doing. One of the greatest PGs of all time
As a charlotte hornets fan i always loved seeing Mourning play. I can only imagine if he and LJ had gotten along and of course Larry hadn't hurt his back
That Nets team was so fun to watch. Kidd made full court passes and lobs to Kenyon who dunked everything. Team speed was great they pushed the ball every chance they got. This was prime Jason Kidd years
That pistons starting lineup was one of the most complete ever. Elite defender at center, PF that can stretch the floor, one of the best wing defenders at SF, an all around scorer at SG, and a pure/clutch shooter at PG.
I personally miss the New Jersey Nets. Although Brooklyn is right on the border of New Jersey, it's still in New York and the state of New Jersey deserves their OWN team.

Love of Mangos Actually the Pistons remain competive another year during the 2007-08 season but their contention status ended for good when the Big 3 era Celtics beated them in the 2008 ECF. The final nail on the coffin was Joe Dumars foolishly trading Chauncey Billups to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson during the 2008-09 season.
This is a case of pretty desperate revisionist history. There was no path for the Nets to be a true contender. They were woefully bad when compared to any of the top 5-6 of the West in any given year. The fact that they struggled against Jim O'Brien's Celtics team regularly (A team that put up a billion 3s a game and really only had 1.5 guys [Pierce and Toine on a decent day] who could hit them with any sort of regularity) in the playoffs says more about the state of the Nets, and the East in general, than painting them as any sort of threat to what the Lakers, Kings, Jazz (early 00's), Spurs, Mavs, or Suns (mid 00's) had built.
I agree. I don't see this team beating the Lakers the next year or Spurs after. This team had great defense but could not score. They didn't have not one great scorer. If they weren't on a fast break and had to play in the half court they would often struggle. The Pistons had players that could score like Rasheed, Hamilton and Chauncey.

That Nets team with Carter and Kidd winning the championship would have been the highlight of my childhood.
I love this series so much!
2005 Astros?
I would love if they did the astros it would be great
Yeah, that 2004-05 Astros team was so much fun.
How is it a collapse? They won the World Series. Collapse has to be a great team who have fallen and haven’t recovered
Did you miss their three straight worst-in-the-world seasons? They fell all the way to the bottom.
@@Jase_Gamez I mean the won the world series in 2017, 12 years later. Directly after that first appearance they set records for worst teams in MLB history.
I spent many weeknights of 2004-2009 at the continental so this hurts 💔
Why you gotta diss the GOAT like that. Scalabrine is anything but a bench warmer.
They had to keep him on the bench to avoid having to give him his well-deserved ultra max contract.
White Mamba
Why can’t Black Mamba Kobe Bryant just be held at the status as the GOAT alone without Less Than Larry Bird Scal...only in America smh

That was 2001 Mariners that won 116 games

As a native from New Jersey this one hurt a lil....Okay a lot lol great episode
Could you do a ep on the big 3 Miami heat era ?
It was a disastrous story for a team that had so much potential; ultimately, cutting costs hurt them dramatically and have not been able to truly recover since 2003.
13:00 that was when the Nets to start the 2007-08 season moved to a new arena (temporary) eleven miles south of the Meadowlands, affectionately known as "The Rock" in Newark - Prudential Center
You did a very good job on this, both on the analytical side and on the technical side.
Moral of the Story: It only takes one injury or ailment to derail a team that looked to be the next champions.
Some of the best memories from my childhood. RIP New Jersey Nets.
Jason Kidd.. Richard Jefferson and VC...was dynacmic to watch
Agreed. Respect your knowledge ✊🏾✊🏾💪🏾

Here we are in 2022 just waiting for this KD and Kyrie stuff to go up in flames setting the stage for the sequel Collapse
Well Kyrie is now in Dallas, maybe we’re getting closer

You guys should do a video on the “Go to Work” Pistons, one of the must unexpected finals upsets on one of the best teams in NBA history
Nah Detroit’s a dump no one cares. you’re trash and you’re poor
I wish they would’ve stayed in jersey we built a new arena for them in Newark and still couldn’t keep em

Do the Giants, Jets and Red Bulls count as New Jersey teams??? LOL. 😀
Time to make part 2. From the Garnett Pierce Deron superteam to KD Kyrie Harden era 😄
I thought those Nets could win an NBA title. What a missed opportunity that was.
Yes he could build a team but was cheap and wasted every one prime they could've 2 chips easily.
How was it missed opportunity they went against juggernauts
@@justthisguy1948 Well, you're not facing dregs in The Finals. You're gonna have to beat someone great when you get there. The window stays open for only so long, so you have to strike while the iron's hot.

Seconded. As trash as the Bucs became after their SB win, I would argue the Raiders got worse.
Who’s here after the Nets traded away Kevin Durant & Kyrie Irving?
I'll always love Jason Kidd for helping my team (And Dirk) get their championship they so deserved. A lot of teams blow through players. But one thing I love about the Mavs is their loyalty to their top players
in 2019 the Nets acquired Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant :)

Andrew Barrera you realize the first video in this series is about a Bucs team that won the title then fell apart?
Glad seeing you here
I recommend to watch this and the Sacramento Kings’ Collapse episode back to back. There are so many pieces linked to one another.
This series was custom made for the 1985 Chicago Bears.
@Matt Joseph the players will be quick to tell you so too. I have heard Steve McMichael, Otis Wilson and Jim McMahon all say that they left another two Lombardi trophies on the table.
As a person who lives at new jersey this one hurts
As a Jersey native. All these millionaries in Jersey couldn’t put together a team to keep a major sports team in the state is sad.

The league figured out Kaepernick and most of their team got old and retired plus they fired Harbaugh

@@loveofmangos6112 bruh lebron joined NBA champion already Dwayne Wade to learn how to win in Miami😂😂
Couldn’t of had put this any better my self
