Edge, edge, edge. I've actually kinda been scared of playing an edgy character, cuz I was afraid that people would be put off, but it's good to know that it's not inherent to edginess
Yeah! The problem isn't having a little edge, just don't go overboard with it. I've played edgy characters and the other players at the table ADORE them because they're still a character. Just grittier. Berserk is one of the edgiest stories out there, but, it's also one of the best pieces of fiction you can possibly read. Very gritty, very dark, can highly recommend.
I’m a big fan of this video! I appreciate all the nuance that you bring to this topic. If there are any edgy characters that you’ve played, I’d love to see a video about them!
That's an idea! I could certainly make some videos sharing stories I've had as a player/dm! I definitely have a couple of edgy characters I've played that are a lot of fun
Hajime : “yeah I used to be an edgy boi and I’d even shoot girls who liked me with rubber bullets. But being around wonderful women , a surrogate daughter and finding solace in people depending on me really calmed me the fuck down.” Crowd : *you’re doing great Hajime* Guts : “I’m complicated….ah….I had an edgy phase to push people away so I wouldn’t have to relive my trauma of losing my family a third time. Then I found new family and was willing to let things go, but… things are kind of hard right now and I’m not sure how I’m gonna deal.” Crowd : *stay strong, Guts*
If someone heard a description of Percival De Rolo out of context, they'd call the character an edgelord. But people aren't ready for that conversation.
Anything can be taken too far, but somethings are easier to take too far then others. Having safety tools in place, and talking to to your players before had can really alleviate alot of trouble. Most of the TTRPG drama I've seen online is due in large part to lack of communication between GM and players, or amongst the players themselves.
Wonderfully insightful! I’ve always wanted to try doing an edgy character, but was afraid how they would interact with the rest of the party. Great examples to help, though!
Some of my favorite players love to play the edgy character. I even let them be full evil at the start of the campaign. Some great stories can come from the edge, if you know who to trust.
well, people that exaggerating saying edgy character is problem are wrong but, edgy character is deserved to be ridiculed. I mean, people should avoid becoming edgy to have a good and healthy social structure in their neighborhood. if edgy character is becoming norm, the social structure is endangered but again, it is okay for someone to like edgy character
Distancing myself from it a bit after everything WotC has done recently, but yes! I am a forever DM, aha. I have plans to do some TTRPG content in the future at some point.

Very well made argument. I'm assuming this ending up in my recommendations because of all the Shadow content

Absolutely. He has everything that makes a character edgy. Dead parents, secret demon patron, out for revenge, quick to anger/violence.
@@BillytheCorgi creepy plague doctor mask :)
Finally someone gets it!

Edgy characters for the win!! We loved our emo wizard so much
Andromeda was great! Except for the parts where I couldn't hit her because she had 10 million AC

YULIA! AHHHH! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!
Edge is fun if done right. like you said, it's the player not the character in the end.

I got called out on the rogue warlock multiclass bit :(
Hey man, no shame. My current PC is a Rogue/Warlock pirate seeking vengeance on the people that turned on him. Very edgy, very fun
