My wife got me a copy as a gift for our first anniversary. True to form, we just had our 10th anniversary, and I haven't finished painting it yet. It has to be PERFECT.
Eh. Might as well toss it or give it to someone at this point. There's a time you've got to decide to put up or shut up. If you wait until you're good enough you never will be. Put some paint on it and play with it. If you mess up, no worries a lil mean green and a toothbrush (wife's if your arguing atm😂) and you can rise and repeat until you're satisfied.
Remember when I finally got my hands on a Space Hulk box and I was lucky that most of the genestealers were painted to a satisfactory level! The terminators were still in the sprues! I have painted them and it was a super effort and I'm satisfied! But I do remember that conflicting dread of painting something so unique and valuable and not wanting to screw it up! So satisfying to have gotten it done! Not expert level but good enough for the board! Good luck with finishing off your models! 👍
Little Easter egg, Calistarius is pre black rage Mephiston. Lexicanium is a title for a low ranking librarian, so this is junior burger Mephiston and he was already a badass!
I was very surprised not to hear this mentioned in the video! Young Mephiston is already a monster compared to his much older contemporaries in this game and it feels like a sign of things to come.
@@sillyeskimo8686as much as I love Jay I don’t think BA lore is something he’s super up to date on. He mixed quite a few things up in his BA videos in the past. Still the hobby king!
Oh, just to be clear - in 1st/2nd lightning claws were 2 dice + 2. In 3rd they're 2 dice + 1. That +1 difference is really pretty big in this game. I'm not gonna post the complete odds tables here, you can find them if you want, but a very short summary would be that the 3rd/4th ed lighting claws are a little worse on guard mode than the 1st/2nd ed lighting claws were without guard. This basically means that the 1st/2nd ed LC marine was better on the attack than the 3rd/4th ed LC marine is on defense. And at the end of the day, in space hulk, if you're not strongly on the offensive, you're probably gonna lose. If you fall into the temptation of trying to turtle, the stealers will build up numbers and crush you.
When it comes to pure painting I think Jay might actually be my favorite channel on UA-cam- between the fun delivery while also keeping the steps easy to follow, all for such an impressive result, it's a joy to watch
I agree! I have no ill feelings for any of the other channels, but no one can match his pure charisma and his god-tier, unwavering positivity. He truly is the best, in my opinion.
I used to work in the plastics and checking molding industry. And I can tell you for every set they sold of these figures. There are about thirty sets that they couldn't sell or didn't sell because they were defected or were run with funny colors to clean out the mold
I have to admit that I have been binge watching a lot of your videos today and I can't help that every time I finished watching one where you painted some minis, I say "Wow, this was your best job yet"...to...every...video.
Two minutes to the release? God damn. Also, I love seeing people paint these old, super rare models. They have more value in the box, but painting them is the morally correct thing to do.
The whole keeping things in the box to retain value has always been weird to be, especially with warhammer. Like the only reason it has value is because someone wants it to paint for display or play with it. Like it has no actual purpose or value if it just sitting in the cardboard box

This has gotta be my favorite video EOB has ever put out. I know it's the newest one but man seeing him bring my Warhammer white wale to life is something special.
Massive missed opportunity on GW’s part to not make a new Space Hulk edition. They literally JUST MADE new Terminators and Genestealers! Was it really so hard?
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it's still in the pipeline? Maybe it'll come when Blood Angels Codex drops and they get new models and upgrade sprues and everything?
There will probably never be another Space Hulk box set/game. If they do, the minis won't be full size, "Primaris" bases are just too big. And in turn all the board sections will have to get bigger, the box would be massive lol
That point about the tokens really rings true. I kitbashed a custom token from a box of Grey Knights that I got. Instead of having one of them holding a banner, I added some extra details, glued them on, painted it all up and glued it to a clear base. So now its a reason for my Grey Knights to be off fighting in this particular battle.
I remember I bought a warhammer magazine. And it came with pop out cardboard space hulk models and a level grid, I think just to get people stoked for space hulk.... It was awesome
Way back in the early 80s I stumbled on a pack of Epic scale Warlord Titans. I think it was 3-4 of them, had NO idea what the game was all about, I just loved the look of them. Until then I had only painted D&D minis, and I found the Gothic tech look to be cool. It wasn't until around 1990 when I joined the Army and found a couple guys who played 40k that I understood what the Titans represented. From then on I dedicated over 20 years to my beloved Space Wolves and loved every moment of painting and converting. Too old now, hands aren't quite as steady and the eyes ain't what they used to be, so I don't paint anymore, but I still have my carrying case with 6000 points worth of my Marines.
Dude completely agree that it is the best. I used to play the older version and managed to buy this version 10 years ago when it came out and have painted it all. Got a nice foam insert to organise the box and protect the models from a company called fledherr

Nice my 1st Space Hulk I rattled can the Space Marines with gun metal with second coat of the chapter color candy apple red. Then gold metal decorations. For the Gene Stealers I did a Slanis pink spray with purple. Now this was the 1st Ed and the 1st for the group I the store to see. Our professional painters were very impressed. My take is always prime with rattle. A with Citadel or Army Paints.😮
As always loving your content EOB! One slight correction which needs to never be forgotten - there was a video game series, indeed one of the greatest of all time in the RTS genre - Dawn of War! 🤘
I still have Space Crusade which was the 40k version of Heroquest. I purchased Heroquest when it was first released. I saw space crusade but never bought it. Years later I found a copy of it at a yard sale so I quickly snapped it up. I still haven’t painted it but I think I might after seeing this.
Yeah. I did the box as a commission for a friend, and it took FOREVER. Especially the Terminators. They have so many fiddly bits that you miss and have to go back to. I also had problems with AP Speed Paint 1.0 Blood Red reactivating and making it so my layers of ivory over top of the purity seals and parchment bits reactivated and bled through. Even after weeks of being dry. So…I think I made it 90% of the way through those and gave up. 🤷🏻♂️
Not every chapter has 100 suits of termie armour, a lot of chapters have very few suits. Lamenters iirc only have 5 suits, red scorpions dont have many either and theres another chapter i forget the name of that only has 2 with a forge-master attempting to gather parts to repair a third. And thats just some examples, theres many more. Only 2 chapters have been mentioned to contain enough terminator suits for a full first company, the Dark Angels and the Novamarines a second founding UM successor
Also fun fact; the Lexicanum Calistarius featured in this game will go on to become Mephiston. Mephiston is a major character in 40k but in space hulk he is just a young humble librarian.

Can we have a studio tour Jay??
My favourite Blood Angel is Brother Cornetto; he's so cool and crispy.
Man, you’re a great artist and That game deserves way way more attention…😢
Such a great job on that set!!! I have two sets. One is painted as soul drinkers and the other I’m going to convert into deathwing 👌🏼😎
Being a blood angels player this video is a dream come true love the terminators
Space Crusades was my first entry to 40K 30 years ago
I'm convinced we'll see anew edition of Space Hulk for 10th. We've got new terminator models, we've got new genestealer models
seeing the lightning effects on the power weapons, I know urge to repaint my sicarian transsonic blades in this style
Also fun fact; the Lexicanum Calistarius featured in this game will go on to become Mephiston. Mephiston is a major character in 40k but in space hulk he is just a young humble librarian.
WARHAMMER sponsored 3D Prints of spacehulk, EPIC :D
Thanks for showing what didn’t work before what did. Interesting.
Gorgeous work, I wouldn’t have a clue how to do it. Also, I have the OG Space Hulk, and the minis sure don’t look like that. 😂
