Hope you enjoyed this one-off "let's play" video! Let us know if you want to see more like this. By the way, here are some rules that the dudes didn't get quite right, just in case you were wondering: - The Terminators can't jam during their action phase, only in overwatch. They ended up wasting an action point clearing a jam that would have never happened. - Sustained Fire only comes into effect if you remain stationary. A couple of times, Mikey used the rule while moving and shooting. - Mikey forgot the +1 to the Librarian gets to his close combat attacks, so wasted a couple of Psi-points boosting his beyond what was required. - Both players accidentally played a double turn 5, so the Genestealers would have started receiving 3 blips in the reinforcement phase 1 turn before they did. Even given those small mistakes, I don't think it would have changed the outcome much. What a brutal game!
also I think Terminators too can move diagonally in front of them for 1 action. Many times during the game we had Terminators do unnecessary turning actions.
Yeah, Mikey was sadly screwed as soon as those first two marines bit the dust. Still - fun times 🤪 You tuber invitational spacehulk occasional series maybe?
It looks like the terminators only rolled one command point in turn seven (in the "lost footage" at 23:23), but used two (24:18), which the intro said was an instant loss (1:24).
Also I'll add that the timer is supposed to be 3 minutes (thought sand timers are notoriously not accurate). I add that because if your set is like my set, the sand clumped up into a solid a long time ago. lol
There are 12 different missions in the box. About 4 or 5 of them are pretty well balanced. A lot of them can be fixed with minor tweaks to the rules. This mission is actually usually pretty easy for the Terminator player, but only if they know what they're doing LOL. I don't think I've ever seen the terminators lose this mission before in any of the games I've played.
@@syncmonism And it's really easy to use the many many more missions from 1st edition. Particularly notableis the campaign from White Dwarf reprinted in the Space Hulk Campaigns book where Imperial Fists are trying to purge the Genestealer Infection in Necromunda's Hive Secondus. That one was a sequel to the Space Crusade campaign in White Dwarf that was about hunting down and killing the Genestealer-Infected Magos Biologis Hermiatus who had unleashed Genestealers on Necromunda. Which means that before even the first Necromunda game the plot of Hermiatus and the Genestealers of Hive Secondus was there, which of course just got brought out in the new Necromunda Underhells expansion with a miniature of Hermiatus re-made by the brood coming soon.
Wonderful players, a delightfully painted set, and the lighting really enhanced the atmosphere of this game! Great all around! RIP Barry Bigclaws, taken too soon!
FYI the box you were showing at the start was the 3rd edition from 2009. 4th in 2014 added boarding torpedoes board piece and different graphic around 'SPACEHULK'
A few newby errors like forgetting the +1 for the librarian in an early turn. I saw a blip move 7 in an early turn when coming on from the board...you cant jam when not on overwatch. You can clear a jam in the marines turn for 1ap. Move and fire at doors. Always. Use spare command points to sprint up the board. Not sure why the librarian spent 2ap +2 psi points to create a barrier on turn 8 (its just 2 psi points. Then hed still have 4ap.+ 1cp to spend) yoi seem to un jam for free at the start of turns instead of unjamming for 1 ap... Turn 9: the librarian would only turn 90° in the first stealer attack feom behind and the stealer would not die. So it could attack with another ap. If the librarian won again he would turn to fave the stealer (if tou want) the stealer could attack again and this time if the librarian won the stealer would be removed. A bit of a disappointment. Must try harder with the marines rules. Its hard enough as it is.

When 3rd edition released in 2009 it was the first board game box to break the USD 100 mark that I remember. It became a a harbinger of things to come. Knowing GW if a new edition comes out they will price it at USD 200.
I guess maybe GW is just sticking to having ppl get leviathan, and the new 10th edition stuff and having ppl use the boarding actions terrain set to do similar scenarios like in Space Hulk and Space Crusade but obviously it's not the same exact game mechanics😐 I still hope they will release a new version! Thanks to everyone involved for a very entertaining game! I'm not sure if it's a contender for GW's best board game, but I've always been a bit fascinated by Warhammer Quest ... one of my first issues of White Dwarf had a big article celebrating its second birthday, and to a young lad whose only RPG experience at that point was the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, it seemed magnificent. If anyone happens to know of any good UA-camrs (or other varieties of Interneteers) who actually still play Quest, please let me know!
Just because no 40k vid is incomplete without some rules lawyering… 😂 Marines can move diagonally as long as one of the opposing diagonal squares is empty. They can’t sidestep. I’d like to vote for more space hulk 🙋🏻♂️
So the crazy flamer dance steps mikey makes at the end of turn 5 he could do in 2 ap - diagonal step forwards right and 90 turn right. Still crazy dance moves ftw.
I don’t have a huge experience of playing GW games but I have always loved Space Hulk and this video shows most of the reasons why. It has a simple rules set which allows players to focus on strategy as opposed to thumbing through pages and pages of rule books and codices. It’s incredibly tactical - although the general perception is that the odds are always stacked against the marines, in my experience, there is always a way for them to win if they deploy their squad(s) correctly and a few dice rolls go their way. The board looks amazing and, most importantly, it’s great fun to play. Thanks so much for the video Guy and co. I really enjoyed it.
Would LOVE to see more actual gaming on this here favorite channel of mine. This was great and fun to watch and I feel like you really caught the playful atmosphere when friends are playing together. Great video Guy, keep up the good work:D

Thankfully the merry gayety of your players provided just the salve I needed to prevent the tension overwhelming me and I was kept hooked through to the end. What a cracking match - Space Hulk really is unforgivingly relentless!
Didn't the Genestealers already win in Turn 7 because the Spacemarine player used too many command points at 24:17 ? With the lost footage you edited it said it was a roll of 1 and he spent 2 command points

Played with a friend the other night and they'd never played before and didn't really know anything about 40K either and they were loving it.
Space Hulk is the best, no question. I hope your video renews interest in the game. GW did try something similar with The Horus Heresy Betrayal At Calth (maybe on a video on that) but unfortunately it was not well promoted and most people purchased it for the models and never played the game. It would be fun to see you try 1st edition Space Hulk as its very different rules to the 4th edition that you played.
If you like Space Hulk and board games in general, check out Space Crusade. It's an earlier GW board game, now quite old and hard to get, but man is it amazing to play!
Wow wow wow, what an amazingly well put together video. Super easy to follow for someone who has never played the game, great personalities and engaging. One more wow for good measure
Just bought a mint condition box for 100 quid. Haven't touched it yet but I'm waiting until I can give it the love it deserves. I agree, best standalone game.
I’ve only ever played videogame interpretations of Space Hulk, starting with the MS Dos game back in the early 90s, with my favourite being the 3DO (also PSOne and Saturn) game. If Games Workshop released a new board game I’d buy it in a heartbeat!
I would love to see more Space Hulk let's plays on the channel. The number of related vids on YT is criminally low and as said, it is the best game GW has ever made :) On another note, where did that screen token come from? OG box had a chalice as the relic, no? Amazing paint job on the models, btw!
I'm gonna be honest, I'd want to get the Space Hulk box for the minis, boards and tokens. Then just run a whole battle of normal 40k inside a space hulk
This is such a brilliant game. I missed 1st edition but got second and third when they came out. I didn't go in for 3.5/4 as it simply didn't make sense having the 2009 edition. I have finally just last night finished painting the terminators and just primed the genestealers. I started the terminators last week and hope to have the genestealers done by next weekend.
Bit confused by the flamer guy wandering off by himself where he can be ignored. He should clearing corners for the main assault. If you want to protect the corridor, then a bolter guy on over watch can be as effective.
Guy, please please please please make a video tutorial showing us mortals simple steps to make a soace hulk board. The cardblard templates are good but it would be so cool to have a custom made board video tutorial from you guys.
Action points, positioning, overwatch, having to make your character look a certain direction, etc Space wolf copied the hell out of this lmao only difference is that they put a card game on top of it
This game looks fun, and looks like a great way to introduce someone to the warhammer universe. I'll have to look for a download of the rules/tokens and see if I can build the map with my boarding actions terrain
the terminator dice are a tragedy this entire game xD but wow this game looks amazing! i'm going to have to try to kitbash together my own set if i can find the rules.
Some of my fondest gaming memories are of playing first edition Space Hulk with my brother . It is definitely Games Workshop/ Warhammer's best game ever .
Really enjoyed the vid. Space Hulk is the best board game that GW have ever produced, (except for the 2nd edition). The 1st edition is what what got me into the hobby and though I may be slightly bias I still feel that it was the best. My reason for this was the expansion sets, the articles in WD (and the journal) and the annual all added more depth and options to the base game. Playing missions with space marines in power armour, Harlequins or even Imperial Guard was fun and challenging. There were also rules for Grey knights and even rules and missions with chaos terminators as the enemy. My son has got me back in to the hobby and we have recently got into BSF. Though obviously not Space Hull, the expansions, WD articles and annual means that in my opinion it is as good as the 3rd/4th edition of Space Hulk and comes a close second to the 1st edition. Finally being of an older generation, I've never really got into social media, UA-cam, etc. however having been introduced to your channel by my son, I really enjoyed what you produce and look forward to each new video, so please keep up the great work.
Bought myself a nearly complete box today. The models alone make it worth it, sadly the rule and mission books are missing. Hoping to play this with a buddy soon
I would love to see Space Hulk opened up for Aeldari, Orks, Tau, etc., to make it playable regardless of faction. It would be interesting to see Genestealers chasing after Aeldari (for example) down the halls. Just sayin'... :)
There's a Space Hulk bible you can find online that has all the old rules for different races, not sure how you would incorporate them into 3rd edition though since it's a very different game.
@@deusex3124 It doesn't quite stick to the old rules, alas, so be aware of that - it incorporates house rules and fan-made stuff, sometimes (in my opinion) improperly. That said, it's definitely worht taking a look at it.
"friendly" game of Space Hulk :) This game was always good. At the time (late 90's) I thought it'd be interesting to see what'd happen if we had more factions. Then of course we got Kill Team boarding actions... maybe careful what you wish for! This was a great re-intro for me. Thanks!
There were about six or seven different mistakes with the rules here, in addition to the one pointed out about the Librarian not being able to re-roll the command points. Storm bolters (Terminator's guns) can only jam during overwatch, not during their own turn. If a model not facing an enemy wins combat, they do not kill the enemy, but may make a free turn to face it, IF they want to. I'm pretty sure that the Librarian doesn't get his +1 close combat bonus if he's not facing the enemy he's fighting with, but you should look this one up to confirm. I can't remember if this is the same with the +1 bonus that the lightning claws terminator gets, but I think it is as well, though I am less sure of this one. They might not even get their second die when not fighting to the front, but I can't remember. This rule should be looked up for both units in the rulebook to confirm. Genestealers AND Terminators can both move diagonally forward, and Terminators can also move diagonally backward as well (for two AP). I'm pretty sure that genestealers can also move backwards diagonally, but they should never really need to move backward because they can turn 90 degrees for free with every move. I think I saw the genestealer player paying one AP to turn his genestealers, but turning 90 degrees is free as a part of any move action for genestealers (but not for terminators). Genestealers are also allowed to move sideways for only 1 AP, which can be very useful.
Librarian always gets +1 CAB (but may not use Psi points unless facing), Lightning Claws always get their CAB too (in 1st Ed, it is +2) but doesn't get the extra die unless facing. Genestealers turning is a 0 AP action, not 'free with a move', Terminators and Genestealers may move to any of their three (free) back squares for 2 AP.
Years ago our local war games club play tested the original space hulk and we were in the credits. It was all card floor plans. We suggested stand up doors. It’s so great to see it develop and still around.
I would love to see more Space Hulk videos on the channel. I used to own the 4th edition but after two years of owning it I never found anyone to play with, so I sold it on as I couldn't justify the money or the space it took up. I very much enjoy playing the Space Hulk (2013) and Space Hulk: Tactics video game adaptations.
Seems like you got some rules wrong. Marines can move diagonally, so your flamer marine could have navigated that corner room much more easily.. Overwatch only hits on 6's, so the Librarian wouldn't have killed that stealer on his second shot when he rolled a 5. You get a sustained fire bonus for subsequent shots in your own turn, but not on Overwatch. On the other hand, jams only happen in overwatch, so you couldn't have gotten jammed storm bolters in your own turn.
Actually, in 3/4th Edition you get sustained fire in overwatch, but sustained fire also only brings it down by one round, it doesn't get better after that.
I have the boxed set so many years now and I want to repaint all the minis. I would love to see all content you can make for space hulk especially mission reports
I don't really comment on videos very much at all, but I wanted to let you know how fun this was to watch I usually can't sit through battle reports but I somehow made it through this entire game. Made me want to pick up Space Hulk. Thanks!

That was awesome! I've wanted to try Space Hulk and this vid has made me psyched to pick it up finally
Basically the plot of alien 2😂
Wow wow wow, what an amazingly well put together video. Super easy to follow for someone who has never played the game, great personalities and engaging. One more wow for good measure
more please, its just farking US reality style bat reps out there. this is chill is engaging
Just bought a mint condition box for 100 quid. Haven't touched it yet but I'm waiting until I can give it the love it deserves. I agree, best standalone game.
Man I live in Finland and I can only find versions for like 300 euros on ebay and amazon! 😭 Wish I had bought it when it came out!
Barry Big Claws
wasn’t big enough 🔎💀
Its 2 am in a warehouse in seattle and im watching this now instead of anything else i guess. good work guy love the space hulk
Space Hulk!! Best GW board game that they won't sell to us! Thanks for the SH content Guy. I'd love to see more.
The number of related vids on YT is criminally low and as said, it is the best game GW has ever made :)
On another note, where did that screen token come from? OG box had a chalice as the relic, no? Amazing paint job on the models, btw!
Believe it or not, Steve both 3d sculpted, printed, AND painted that screen! The man's unstoppable.
Gorgeously painted minis!
Love the terminators paint job.
Loved this video! More Space Hulk, please! Need to figure out some better Space Marine Strategies for our play. Great sportsmanship too.
I don't know if GW would do Space Hulk again because there's not enough opportunities for plastic terrain for them to jack up the price with.
Played the shit out of 3rd edition when it came out. Nowadays I don't have anyone to play Space Hulk with. Sucks a bit but what are you gonna do?
Bit confused by the flamer guy wandering off by himself where he can be ignored. He should clearing corners for the main assault. If you want to protect the corridor, then a bolter guy on over watch can be as effective.
How come you don't pick the CPs out of a bag or cup?
Removes the possibility of cheating.
Guy, please please please please make a video tutorial showing us mortals simple steps to make a soace hulk board. The cardblard templates are good but it would be so cool to have a custom made board video tutorial from you guys.
Action points, positioning, overwatch, having to make your character look a certain direction, etc
Space wolf copied the hell out of this lmao only difference is that they put a card game on top of it
And the 'stealers maintain their 'flix subscription. Lots of time to binge in the depths of the warp... 📺
In the turn were he first unjammed his gun he used 1 command point for that and 1 for overwatch but he only rolled a 1 for all command points
Love the banter, love the Hellstorm collab and love a bit of Steve!
Do you happen to have any high detail photos of those Terminators and Librarian? they look great.
Some of my fondest gaming memories are of playing first edition Space Hulk with my brother . It is definitely Games Workshop/ Warhammer's best game ever .
This is the first game of this I've seen played and now I am searching ebay for a copy and am sick to my stomach at the price 😢
That's just mean, guy. Show us how fun this game is, which is impossible to get ;) . Such a fun video.
I love how the Genestealers lool like they got pyjamas on.
Turns the game into Babysitters vs rumbunctious kids.
GO TO BED!! *Stormbolter*
I loved this game in the 90s ive still got the gene stealer and the terminators with their flamers. They don't have their antenna though.
Aye I got the game with minis last year at Nova! I'm painting mine as Deathwatch and gonna play soon!
Any idea where to get a recent Edition copy without losing hundreds of dollars?
I was like: Ooh is space hulk re released?
Sadface
Bought myself a nearly complete box today. The models alone make it worth it, sadly the rule and mission books are missing. Hoping to play this with a buddy soon
You guys should definitely do this again with your own missions and layouts 🤘🏽
I must admit, this was quite fun to watch. ^^ I enjoyed the beginner-friendliness as well, even while having owned the game for many years.
So jealous, I'm obsessed with terminators, and I have been trying to figure out how to get the game forever now.
😱has Christmas come early?🎉🎉🎉 I love this game

Librarian couldn't kill a stealer then it attacked behind, could he?
Why did they withdraw this - other than to show the customers who's boss, like they do?
I would love to see Space Hulk opened up for Aeldari, Orks, Tau, etc., to make it playable regardless of faction. It would be interesting to see Genestealers chasing after Aeldari (for example) down the halls. Just sayin'... :)
There were rules in WD for different options back for 1st edition space hulk
@@WraithRaider Really? Damn, I must have missed that issue. Hopefully, they'll revisit that idea again.
There's a Space Hulk bible you can find online that has all the old rules for different races, not sure how you would incorporate them into 3rd edition though since it's a very different game.
@@deusex3124 Very cool! Thanks for the info - I'll have to look for it. Should at least be worth a quick read, even if it's no longer usable! :)
@@deusex3124 It doesn't quite stick to the old rules, alas, so be aware of that - it incorporates house rules and fan-made stuff, sometimes (in my opinion) improperly. That said, it's definitely worht taking a look at it.
Lovely painted termies
"friendly" game of Space Hulk :)
This game was always good. At the time (late 90's) I thought it'd be interesting to see what'd happen if we had more factions. Then of course we got Kill Team boarding actions... maybe careful what you wish for!
This was a great re-intro for me. Thanks!
I would love to see you guys play Warhammer Underworlds!
Really wish gw would revamp it and add more extentions
Space Hulk hell yeah!!! Third time I have watched it :)
Just want to add to the voices wanting more of these, please 😊
I don't really comment on videos very much at all, but I wanted to let you know how fun this was to watch
I usually can't sit through battle reports but I somehow made it through this entire game. Made me want to pick up Space Hulk. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this. Great to see people having a good time. Tough day for the marines though!
Hope they make a new space hulk since new nids and terminators
